I just wanted to let you know that I was an avid reader from about second grade until I graduated high school and then I got into the partying and hard drug lifestyle & I stopped for about 10 years. Somehow I stumbled across this channel and inspired me to pick up books again. I’ve been suffering from debilitating anxiety & PTSD for years now and aside from medication like Xanax, the only thing that really works for me I’ve realized, thanks to you, is reading books, ever since I discovered your channel I have read No Country For Old Men, Cherry, The Devil All The Time, The Queens Gambit, Tokyo Vice, Lovecraft Country, The Night Manager, the entire Harry Potter series, the entire Lord Of The Rings series, Requiem For A Dream, American Psycho, Shogun, Dune, Misery, The Handmaids Tale, and a couple of others. My mental health hasn’t been this good in over a decade so I just wanted to personally thank you for getting me back into reading because I was in the dark place and I’m doing a lot better, thank you for being your true sometimes awkward but always friendly and relatable self in your videos, you have helped me a lot. Much love from Detroit, Mi. - Zack H
I found your channel last week and it's one of my new favorites!
That's what happened to me, too.
You on coffee is too funny! Even in a supposed slump, your enthusiasm for reading is so inspiring. 😊
when you start Jurassic Park on June 1, that is when the slump ends. that book is unstoppable.
You are so fun and make me laugh every video. Definitely my favorite book tuber.
Loving your channel and vibe, great recommendations. Fellow Stephen king lover here 🙌
Jurassic Park is sooooo good. I’m jealous of you getting to read it (for the first time)!
Nick i got your Spine breaker tshirt in the mail, aaaah it made me so happy!!!
Yesssss!! Love to hear it
Devil in the White city is a tough read. You’ll love and enjoy one story line and trudge through the other. In the end-it’s great!!!
Read Vonnegut Read Vonnegut Read Vonnegut Read Vonnegut
Second this Second this Second this Second this
Man, I love you and your videos. You got amazing vibes!
HOUSE OF LEAVES HOUSE OF LEAVES HOUse of leavesssss
This was so chaotic, I love it 😂
I LOVE Jurassic Park!!! I've never met anyone outside my family who's read it ("what do you mean there's a book") because it gets constantly overshadowed by the film. For any dino/maths nerds the book is definetely somewhat more developed than the movie (the movie slaps though)
Emily Wilson's Odyssey is wonderful, especially at illustrating how different our values and expectations are from when "Homer" wrote. Sort of like really good science fiction world building. I'm hoping to get to her Iliad soon. Meanwhile, I borrowed Jurassic Park to read... BTW, I've lost track of whether you've read The Count of Monte Cristo yet, but I hope you do. It's superb storytelling with lots of details the movies never have room for - and I've seen them all. The book speeds by.
A good trick for staying plugged into reading is committing to a page count each day.
As always, or maybe more than usual, i much enjoyed this! You and caffeine and a broken chair was a little scary though, but entertaining, but be careful.
Enjoy Jurassic Park!
I enjoyed Devil in the White City. It’s very newsy, however: lots of facts.
I loved this novel, however, by the end something was still missing for me. Was torn on a rating and still think about it from time to time! Maybe I need a re-read 😅
I ready Devil in the White City recently and while I enjoyed it, it never hit the heights of all the hype it's garnered. It felt to me like Erik Larson wanted to write 2 books. One about the Worlds Fair and one about H.H. Holmes then just smashed the two of them together. Both interesting stories, but the pacing ended up way off for me. You have the tension on the HH Holmes story, but it's watered down by the lengthy Worlds Fair sections.
The Dark Tower series should get you out of that slump as well!
I also had a hard time getting sucked in to a book this month. One finished “Perks of being a wallflower” 4/5 ⭐️
Probably stress of kids being out of school soon occupying my mind!
I heard the same thing about Erik Larson and was very disappointed by Devil, however I loved splendid and the vial of WW2 is interesting for you
Love tuning into your videos. I love books, but really enjoy your overall chill vibe. Keep up the good work.
The Iliad is my favorite book, I hope you enjoy it! I haven't read Emily Wilson's translation, but now I will be picking that up.
Whenever I am in a reading slump I pick up a Stephen King! Read Under the Dome or Salem's Lot
Enjoying your channel. Thank you
Definitely do The Iliad and The Odyssey!
Why do I get Jeff Goldblum vibes lol, love it!
Have you read any of S.A. Cosby? I am reading All the Sinners Bleed and it is so gripping.
Razorblade Tears was one of my most favorite books last year❤
@@JanetsThingamajigs, I need to add that to my TBR!
Unknowingly that the book for June was Jurassic park I just recently bought it and started it. Half way into it and I’ve enjoyed it so far!
I just finished Greenwood -really enjoyed it.
I finally got my spinebreaker shirt in the mail !!! love it
Sick!!!! So glad!
I also had a hard time with Devil in the White City, but one i just finished that was way better was Destiny of the Republic about the assassination of James Garfield and how Alexander Graham Bell played into that historical period. Give it a shot if Devil in the White City fails you again 👍🏼
I just finished Jurassic Park for the first time this week! Stayed up till 1AM this Wednesday to finish it! It ripped me out from my reading slump. I hope you enjoy it!
Lots of people love Devil In the White City and other Larson books. I don’t know why exactly, but I’ve never been able to get into his writing.
For Devil in the White City, try the Audiobook (Libby). That’s how I made it through - crank up the speed a little bit, if you have to 😉!
I’m excited for Jurassic Park! But, I hope Neverwhere / Neil Gaiman is an option again for a future month.
Thanks, Nick! Love these videos - chill or a little manic, I look forward to them every week. Keep it up!
I just started You like it Darker.
Same about Devil in the White City. Tired once, dnf'd it and want to try it again. I should read it since I'm from the Chicagoland area!
Jurassic Park is fire. I just recently bought a Folio Society copy of the book.
Devil in the White City was the first Larson book I read. And it turned out to be his worst. I strongly recommend Splendid and the Vile, In the Garden of the Beasts, and Isaac’s Storm.
Love your channel dude. If you’re in a reading slump and enjoy sci-fi check out project Hail Mary if you haven’t already read it. It reads very fast! Fantastic book
Do you plan on reading red rising?
I just finished the first book of The Spread. It's a horror. You should look at it. It had me hooked.
Month of “Misery”? 😂
Devil in the white City is fabulous
Just finished Greenwood today! Give it 5 stars!
The first 100 pages of devil are slow. Give it a little more time.
i listen to the devil in the white city on audible because i couldn't get into the book and i want really bad to read it. Worked out way better
this thumbnail is everything
I loved Jurassic Park! It’s got a lot of differences from the movie but the biggest is that it has much more gore. James Cameron had spoke about wanting to buy the rights to the story and make it R rated but Spielberg beat him to it and made his classic.
That's so interesting, I never knew that. Literally can't imagine the film not being a Spielberg masterpiece
I'm going through the same thing with Devil in the White City right now. Came highly recommended but it's taken two weeks for me to just get to page 60 .😂
Can u please list the books under the video i cannot not always catch the tile and the writer you mention 😮 it is too fast
Love your channel keep on keeping on!
Have you read "The Dallergut dream department store" by Miye Lee? "Days in the Morisaki bookshop" by Satoshi Yagisawa? "In memoriam" by Alice Winn "Where the dark stands still" by A.B. Poranek?A.J. Hackwith books in the The god of lost words series?
You should really dive into A Clockwork Orange it’s very scary starting out but you should give it a try
This is one book that I haven't read. Along with Infinite Jest. I don't know why but both books seem completely overwhelming.
@@nikkivenable73 It is very overwhelming. Especially when you consider the fact that Anthony Burgess created his own type of language for certain words but once you get past that it’s very good.
Jurassic Park is such a fun read!
What's the name of the bookstore dude? Tried to find him on thr gram 😅
I wanted to know the same thing.
yippie
Devil in the White City is crazy overrated. It’s fine. Feels like two good books forced together that made one meh one.
man you need to buy a new book shelf and make video about that organising books
IMO, The Odyssey is a better read than The Iliad.
Slow down on the coffee, dude!
Please please please stop drinking coffee if it makes you feel bad afterwards, I don't know if it was just a silly joke but please don't put yourself through it just to entertain :)
