Just picked up a book I'd highly recommend. The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki. It's about a mysterious coffee shop that has no fixed location and is run by talking cats and it helps people figure out their life woes. It's really charming!
I read Travels with Charley. It's Steinbeck "in search of America", but to me it was more about an aging person searching for themselves, looking for continued meaning and relevance. Loved it and I love Steinbeck :)
@@biteofdog I feel like this is a book that we get more out of with the experience of aging. It's interesting how books will usually hit us differently at different stages of our lives.🤔 I hope you do get around to reading it again :)
Steinbeck is easily one of America’s greatest writers. Most definitely on the Mount Rushmore. Travels with Charlie is superb. It’s short and it’s non fiction about a trip he takes. Very cool to see America in a different time period. It’s safe to say any Steinbeck work you pick up, is gonna be worth your time. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
I watched the Exorcist in 8th grade at a sleepover with my best friend and it was one of the movies that initiated our every Friday horror movie night from Blockbuster. Now feeling sooo nostalgic for those mems :) It's also a favorite for me!
The Blair Witch Project is very scary (especially the ending), like makes the hair on your arms stand up!! Lol. Also - read Small Things Like These because of your rec and loved it!!
I finished reading East of Eden and two days later I got a 'thou mayest' tattoo on my arm. Best book I've ever read and I'm so happy you're enjoying it
The Exorcist is my favorite horror movie of all time. I'm reading the book for the first time now. I saw The Blair Witch Project in the theater when it came out and actually hated it. It wasn't till years later that I watched it again on DVD and I loved it!
Love your taste in horror movies! I rarely get actually scared, and Wolf Creek & The Strangers both really creeped me out, so it's cool to see those get a mention.
The Strangers is one I recommend to anyone who doesn’t watch a lot of horror. I made all my friends in college watch it every Halloween. Just the jump scares, the ending, just enough gore but not overly done and those shots where you see things the characters don’t just make it great.
When we went to see Blair Witch, we were held up from going into our viewing and a voice came over the Cinema tannoy explaining that we were late, because someone had thrown up, during the performance and went on to warn us that the film was _really_ disturbing, so we thought "great!" 😉😉 When we came out, we both said "was that _it?"_ However, for a few days, I found the final scenes (no spoilers) really playing on my mind and troubling me...delayed reaction, I suppose. My favourite, although I'm not sure it "counts" as a "horror" film is the original 70's version of The Stepford Wives, I watch it often and it _still_ unnerves me. There were _so_ many classics made in that era, Exorcist, Carrie, The Shining, etc. etc. but The Stepford Wives, always stands out, for me!
Very jealous of your weather! I'm fully ready for spooky season, but it's been 105° the first week of September still here in Fresno. Doesn't quite fit the vibe when even my midnight movie watching it's 85°. My top 5 horror: 5. Zombie Flesh Eaters 4. The Haunting (1963) 3. Hereditary 2. The Wicker Man (not the Cage version lol) 1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (easily the best horror movie ever made imo) Honorable mentions to The Thing, The Exorcist, Possession, Cure, Audition, Onibaba
Just watched “where evil lurks”. Dude. This movie RULES and is very scary. Subtitled as it’s in Spanish and takes place in Argentina, but made it even better. WATCH IT. Also the Blair witch project freaked me out so bad when I watched it with my brother and my friend when I was 13, that I demanded to go home with my brother to his house cuz my parents weren’t home. I got made fun of for that for years!
Some of my favorite horror movies, off the top of my head, Suspiria (1977) - I like the remake also Eyes Without a Face (1960) Hour of the Wolf (1968) The Lighthouse (2019) Blair Witch Project (1999) Let The Right One In (2008) Onibaba (1964) Man Bites Dog (1992)
You should definitely check out Lake Mungo if you haven't already, it's one of the most unsettling movies i've ever seen. Some other favourites of mine are the 1989 made for tv adaptation of The Woman In Black, Black Christmas (the original 70s version, not the awful remakes), It Follows, & John Carpenter's Halloween.
I agree with the Blair Witch Project! I’m afraid of watching it now and ruining how scary it was for me. And the strangers! I watched that at a sleepover in middle school and remember not sleeping after that 😂 haven’t watched it since. I would love to revisit that one
Not hugely into Horror movies but I gotta weigh in with American Werewolf, The Lost Boys the original Ring (the books tend to go off on some weird ass journey, though) The Frighteners, Alien/Aliens, Black Sheep was pretty good. Society, Rose Red (Stephen King mini-series) Gremlins 1 & 2, Fright Night, 13 Ghosts, Deep Blue Sea, Final Destination, Idle Hands. But yeah, not really into horror movies 😂🤪
You need to watch The Substance it’s coming out soon and so far I’ve heard nothing but amazing reviews !! 90% on rotten tomatoes already and a lot of UA-camrs favorite horror of the year! I’m excited for it
I'm so happy a Catalan movie (REC) has made it to your list! Have you watched the rest of the series? They're good too. I would choose Poltergeist, The shinning and Elm street 😊
Gotta say The Blair Witch Project never really fooled me. Yes it is creepy and scary, but the acting didn’t sit quite right with me. The biggest nail in the coffin though was that the missing posters had the 555 area code all American movies use so people don’t try to ring the number. Would I still recommend it? Yes. It is still worth the watch regardless of real or fake.
Blair Witch was sooooo scary to me. We saw it on opening night and all believed it was real bc of the marketing of it. I was scared to death and will never watch it again even though I know it’s not real now. LOL.
For me it’s The Ring, saw it in theater midnight showing when I was high school, was awesome! Have you and your wife been together since you were teenagers, Blockbuster? We haven’t had them in the Philly area for over 20 years and I think you’re a year or 2 younger than I!
Is that really how Midsommar should be pronounced? Is that the crazy Canadian pronunciation? 😂 No shade. Just never heard it said that way. Great horror picks. I would add “The Others”. Very creepy ending that I did not see coming.
The guy who directed Wolf Creek is from my hometown and went to my high school (years before I did) and it's my favourite hometown fact. There are some pretty terrible Australian movies but when they get it right, they get it right
have been kind of intimidated by east of eden after hearing so much about it need to finally pick it up and check it out. have heard so many great things also if you haven't already, you should definitely check out iain reid's books - namely Foe and We Spread. both are insanely fast paced and are super unique and intense!
Have you read anything by H.P. Lovecraft ?? and if so, which did you most. enjoy. The stories I keep going back to are the Randolph Carter cycle of 4 stories/novella (The Statement of Randolph Carter; The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath; The Silver Key and Through the Gates of the Silver Key). All were written during the 1920"s with a perspective of the time that HPL was writing (post-WWi and the decadence of the '20s). TGSK was written later as a revision after E. Hoffmann Price published his sequel to Dream Quest ... titled The Lord of Illusion detailing what actually happened to Randolph Carter. As an aside, Lovecraft was a very odd gentleman not only was he a racist and a misogynist but his diet only consisted of bake beans and ice cream.
I've seen a lot of horror movies in theaters.......NOTHING comes close to the first 45 minutes of the Strangers. That audience (myself included) was wound impossibly tight, so much dread and tension.
I'm 800 pages into Wizard And Glass and feel his past could have been stated in a couple of paragraphs. The mystery of Roland is now gone. It should have stayed a wonder, at best. This forth book was completely unnecessary. I don't like it.
read the forbidden book Magnetic Aura on Borlest, and you'll see the secrets they're keeping from us.
Just picked up a book I'd highly recommend. The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki. It's about a mysterious coffee shop that has no fixed location and is run by talking cats and it helps people figure out their life woes. It's really charming!
Thanks for the recommendation. Will check to see if my library has copy.
I’m on the waitlist on Libby for this one, very excited to read it!
Yes! Blair Witch Project. The end scene terrified me!
The Strangers is very famous for being one of the scariest movies ever due to its realistic nature. Great picks!
"Oddity" is an amazing horror movie from this year! Highly recommend it.
I read Travels with Charley. It's Steinbeck "in search of America", but to me it was more about an aging person searching for themselves, looking for continued meaning and relevance. Loved it and I love Steinbeck :)
I need to read that book again. ❤

70s & 80s horror is my favorite (The Other, The Changeling,Ghost Story) but I also love Session 9 & It Follows.
I love the a24 films too. Not sure if you’ve seen it, but I was shocked when I saw Talk to Me!
I watched the Exorcist in 8th grade at a sleepover with my best friend and it was one of the movies that initiated our every Friday horror movie night from Blockbuster. Now feeling sooo nostalgic for those mems :) It's also a favorite for me!
the book that changed everything for me was Magnetic Aura from Borlest
Love suspiria and burnt offerings
The Blair Witch Project is very scary (especially the ending), like makes the hair on your arms stand up!! Lol.
Also - read Small Things Like These because of your rec and loved it!!
I finished reading East of Eden and two days later I got a 'thou mayest' tattoo on my arm. Best book I've ever read and I'm so happy you're enjoying it
Quarantine is good but REC is FANTASTIC! Good pick on Blair Witch Project!
I love scary movies so this was a super fun episode!
I'm not a horror movie watcher, or seeker but Tucker and Dale vs Evil is great. Highly recommend ❤
I'm already seeing pumpkins at the grocery stores. I love Fall! I live near Seattle, WA and Fall is so pretty here and the winters are pretty mellow.
The movie Smile has a lot of jump scares. I love descent
I was shocked by how much I liked Smile after watching it this year! Totally recommend for anyone whose looking for a newer release

I love The Blair Witch Project. It was my first horror movie theater experience.
My favourite horror movie is John Carpenters The Thing, brilliant film.
Very jealous of your weather! I'm fully ready for spooky season, but it's been 105° the first week of September still here in Fresno. Doesn't quite fit the vibe when even my midnight movie watching it's 85°.
My top 5 horror:

3. Hereditary
2. The Wicker Man (not the Cage version lol)
1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (easily the best horror movie ever made imo)

Blockbuster! What a nostalgic word to hear 😅 do you watch AHS?
Some class French picks right there, may I also recommend Calvaire if you haven’t already seen it!

Midsommar is my second favorite. The Conjuring is probably my favorite. Get Out top 5 too. New one to the top 10 was Sinister
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is the scariest movie for me. No jump scares only tension
Some of my favorite horror movies, off the top of my head,
Suspiria (1977) - I like the remake also
Eyes Without a Face (1960)
Hour of the Wolf (1968)
The Lighthouse (2019)
Blair Witch Project (1999)
Let The Right One In (2008)

Blair witch is still scary as hell man, love that movie. I’m shocked that The Thing isn’t in your top 5!!! The movie tweaked me as a kid.
Yes. there's a banned book called Magnetic Aura from Borlest that talks about powerful methods to increase attraction, it's the real deal
You should check out Lake Mungo

Just rented of mice and men from Libby and gonna reread it, last read it in probably 2015 or so
Yet to watch Blair witch although the thing is my favourite horror movie
The Thing is so great!

One of the graphic novels of At the Mountain of Madness scared the carp out of me 😂
I've seen a lot of horror movies in theaters.......NOTHING comes close to the first 45 minutes of the Strangers. That audience (myself included) was wound impossibly tight, so much dread and tension.
Any chance of a spine breaker hat
Alien.
‘Talk To Me ‘ is a fave recent horror movie. Have you seen it?
Movies movies movies

Nope is Jordan Peele's best movie so far!
Dude, definitely watch Quarantine. It’s so good.
The Omen scared the crap out of me!
I'm 800 pages into Wizard And Glass and feel his past could have been stated in a couple of paragraphs. The mystery of Roland is now gone. It should have stayed a wonder, at best. This forth book was completely unnecessary. I don't like it.
Rec is an amazing horror movie! I don’t usually like that genre for movies but I really really enjoyed that one
2 horror movies I would recommend:
The Innkeepers
As Above So Below
The Strangers is my #4 too. So good
Try writing again. Do.
