Being in a book store with coffee is the most awesome experience in the world. Thank you for sharing your struggle with anxiety. You portray yourself as mellow and excited about books. I really do enjoy watching all your channels. You rock!!
Loved just the itty bitty chat chat anxiety. I think a lot of us here can say that we also have anxiety and it’s just nice for the topic to be openly discussed and that tips to help can be suggested :)
I am the same way! Coffee is a big trigger for panic attacks or at least putting me on edge for a while which can be exhausting! I've just switched to decaf, which is frustratingly limiting, but still allows for that supplemental cozy/tangible thing you alluded to. I am so thankful you’ve opened yourself to be a resource to help others. I remember when I first started having panic issues, the helpless feeling, and the ‘my wife and child would be better off without having to deal with this’, just the lowest and hopeless lowest of lows. I’ve navigated it a lot and am in a much better place, but simply offering an ear and advice is incredible.
Coffee, teas with caffeine, and choclate effect me the same way. Doing something physical always helps my attacks. Bike riding, walking, hiking, painting help me.
What a good haul! I love that edition of the Picture of Dorian Gray, and it is a fantastic classic read. Oscar Wilde has such a sad story, but his writing was a gift to the world. Happy to have found you on YT! ♡
The excitement of a first edition never gets old. Loving the covers of Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. I fall in the same camp as your wife and adore Jane Austen
I read Jurassic Park when it was first published and I remember thinking: Wow! This should be a movie. So good. I also really loved The Goldfinch. Lots of people hate it but I couldn’t get enough. I read The Secret History back when it was new and I know I really liked it but it was so long ago I barely remember what happened. I’m enjoying your stuff so much. Love the enthusiasm.
Sorry to hear of your coffee issues. That for me would be tough. I too like books with ribbon bookmarks. After always hunting for something to mark a book I figured out how to make a big bunch of bookmarks that are always on hand. It is a do -it -yourself project I did at a copy shop. Take several colored 8.5” x !1” paper sheets, laminate them and then take them to their slicing paper cutter. Slice laminated paper width-wise into about 1.25 “ strips. You get a fat stack of book marks, which also are nice because they fold over the bend of a page, making it easy to underline with a pencil. Great presentation of your new books. Enjoy The Goldfinch!
I stopped drinking coffee a couple of years ago for the same reason, I ordered decaf recently in a cafe once which definitely wasn't decaf and had the worst panic attack I'd had in ages from it! Totally understand how awful dealing with anxiety is but you're doing great on this channel! Watching your videos helps me to relax so thank you :)
Love your UA-cam and tik tok content. Also love that you addressed anxiety. I struggle with it as well and just knowing that others struggle as well helps somehow
Great channel! In the past I was a “nonfiction or classics only” book snob. Then a friend strongly recommended I read Goldfinch. When I closed the book I finally understood that great modern fiction writers do indeed exist. Btw…..Dorian Gray and Jane Eyre are wonderful✨
I remember reading Jurassic Park as I sat in the shopping cart while my mom wheeled me around Costco as a kid, such a great read and started a lifelong love of Michael Crichton
i do think the goldfinch is a great starting book for donna tartt but the secret history is by far her best. just a stunning novel, i especially recommend it to new adults
so happy to have found this new channel what a ray of sunshine!! the goldfinch is my favorite of donna tartt's and one of my favorites of all time, it's so dear to me i literally got goosebumps when you did the close ups 🤣 happy reading to you and wifey >.
I went into Saltburn without knowing what is was actually about. What a wild ride! Awesome book haul, too. I recently found your channel and really like your book choices. Looking forward to more videos from you ☺
i never hear anything about carlos ruiz zafons books but i loved them all so much! can really recommend his books! the shadow of the wind is my favourite book of all time!
Donna Tartt is great. She writes a book about every ten years. Concerning The Goldfinch, the painting of the goldfinch is by Carel Fabritious, and there’s a book about him and the author, Laura Cumming’s, father, who was also an artist. The book is called Thunderclap by Laura Cumming. The Picture of Dorian Gray is about a man whose self portrait gets older and visually horrific the older and more debauched he becomes as time goes on,while staying young. I would suggest reading the unedited version - parts that were cut out because of them being too risqué for the time (gay) and also has a lot of endnotes with interesting history of the time. Another great line from Jane Eyre is, “I married him, dear reader!” 😊
I'm so glad you're on UA-cam now. You have a unique voice in this space and I'm super keen to hear more of your thoughts. As for Donna tartt, I read the goldfinch and devourrrrrred it. Couldn't put it down. It's quite divisive though and I've heard it panned as being like 'Harry potter for adults' which made me feel super basic. 😂 I recently finished the secret history and loved that too but for me, the goldfinch was the one.
Hi, your video was recommended to me, and I really enjoyed it! As an anxious bookworm, I would watch a video from you about what has helped your anxiety. Books *are* sick!
Beautiful books!! Love your edition of Jurassic Park, I can only ever find the Mass Market Paperback which I don't like that size ... Side note, DYING to see Saltburn!
Man seeing that Jurassic Park edition took me back! It was on my parents shelf for ages before I cottoned on it was the same as the film, I was quite young! :)
Just found your channel, already subscribed and looking forward to more videos! I love Jurassic Park so much, I read the whole thing in a day, I just couldn’t put it down, such a great read!
Love the videos. Also, really love Jurassic Park! I grew up watching the movie over and over again, but as an adult I listened to the audio book. Much more intense and creepy, but a ton of fun and sucked me in from start to finish!
I read Jurassic Park for a sci fi/fantasy class as a junior in high school and remember being enthralled with it which at the time, surprised me. I don’t often reread books but would love to experience this one again. Enjoy!!
The Goldfinch, Jane Eyre and The Stand are all terrific books - you will love them all!!! I, too, am looking forward to reading the Picture of Dorian Gray. So glad you told us about the painted copy of Jane Eyre - it’s beautiful!!! Looking it up now in Google!
The goldfinch was such a fun read! One of the first books I read that blew my mind in terms of the amount of research the author must have put in to shape the story. One I will definitely be re-reading :)
So stoked to have found your channel! You have such a cool vibe and appreciate the variety of books you pick up! Also, as someone who also suffers from panic attacks I LOVE that you are open about it! I absolutely loved The Picture of Dorian Grey, I tried to read Jane Eyre 10 years ago when I was in high school but had to stop as I started to get depressed in my day to day life as a result of it. Probably more of a reflection of my mental health at the time instead of the book! Do you mind if I recommend a few books? Some of my favorite books I read last year were Animal Farm by George Orwell, such a quick read and super impactful. A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles, this was a blind read for me and it was honestly so enjoyable! And of course some of my favorite books ever are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Can't wait for more content from you, I really enjoy the podcast-esque style you do with a constant stream instead of cut up! :)
Nice video. I have read most of the books on your list and in my humble opinion hands-down Jurassic Park is the best. It’s almost the perfect book. Keep it up!!
Love all those beautiful books! I think I'm one of the few people for Jurassic Park that liked the movie more then the book. I almost dnf'd it because I found some parts to be pretty boring and long and drawn out. I hope you like it though. Thank you, for starting a UA-cam channel, I'm really enjoying your videos! :)
Awesome video, I’m also new to reading, I recently picked up Penguin Brontë Sisters 3 book paperback (Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and Agnes Grey), even though I haven’t read them yet… I want that painted Jane Eyre😂!
Nick, I love this new you tube! I miss the podcast, is that no longer going to happen? Love hearing from your wife too! Really enjoy your videos, you have reignited my love for Stephen King. Donna
You should check out Perfume by Patrick... Süskind. If you like books about strange.. serial killer esque ppl. The ending is INSANE. Also, it was Kurt Cobain's fav book
Do you have a letterboxd account? it would be cool to see more of your views on movies, especially since you're a photographer it would be awesome to hear what you think about cinematography and visual effects and stuff. I'm also a huge horror movie fan. I also just love movies and books and stories in general lol not just horror even though it's my favorite genre.
I really like the Rise and the Fall of the Third Reich. It did get a little boring in the part about around the beer hall putsch. I loved Jurassic Park. I read it out loud twice to my sons (they even made me read the boring parts about the DNA sequencing)
I have read/listened to Jurassic Park multiple times and find it really enjoyable. I find it strange that the movies reversed the beginnings by using the start of the Lost World as the start of Jurassic Park and vice versa, that being said after getting over the initial confusion, I just let the great story take me away.
So jealous or the weather out there. Here in Argentina is summer and I love cold weather. I couldn't finish Dorian Gray. The dialogues were kind of long monologues and I got annoyed early on.
Look I am Polish American and I speak for myself and probably 90% of the other Polish peoples out there. You don’t need to cover up the logo of the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. We won’t get butt hurt.
The Goldfinch is hundreds of times better than The secret History and that says a lot!! I read TSH in a month and TG in a week! And im probably going to read it again. So amazing
I love your content, and I hate that I am about to say this...but I have a stupid complex with not watching videos when people do it (my problem not yours) but with that said...can I suggest looking in to the lens and not the screen/monitor? It's just a bit jarring you talking to 'us' but looking at yourself. I feel very disrespectful because I am really enjoying your stuff on here and insta but just a suggestion. Don't hate me. Haha.
I'm not a fan of collecting books never to read them. Art as a commodity feels gross to me. So with that I say read the pretty books, but read them with care!
You said you drank tea, you are aware that it contains caffeine as well right? I have twins, one drinks tea, the other coffee. I don't drink either of them.
The algorithm has blessed me on this day. What a delight of a person you are!
Being in a book store with coffee is the most awesome experience in the world. Thank you for sharing your struggle with anxiety. You portray yourself as mellow and excited about books. I really do enjoy watching all your channels. You rock!!
not me being half awake reading the title and going "oh no, are they okay? :( get well soon 🥺" then realizing....i should sleep again
Me too! 🙄
I’m genuinely so happy that you made a yt channel. I’m loving your content.
I like the term “palate cleanser” for the short book after the long book.
Loved just the itty bitty chat chat anxiety. I think a lot of us here can say that we also have anxiety and it’s just nice for the topic to be openly discussed and that tips to help can be suggested :)

That edition of Jane Eyre is so pretty. Just picked up Lonesome Dove today and can’t wait to get started.

I waited for the ‘love you’ at the end 😂 No worries, I’ll still be back next week!
Yay! B-Roll! Also the goldfinch is so brilliant I adored that book with my whole heart!
Sorry to hear of your coffee issues. That for me would be tough. I too like books with ribbon bookmarks. Awesome haul. Started reading Lonesome dove and I'm kind of digging it😊. Also I just read The Color Purple and I would recommend
New to your channel and it's becoming a favorite. Life-long reader and have had anxiety just about as long ! Just wanted to jump on and say hello !
Just found you today!!! Love your content 👏👏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hey I just found your channel and love it , I have anxiety too and have up coffee about 6 years ago 😉
I love your channel so much. It’s so calming and I think you’ve a great range of books and authors regardless of gender. Wholesome king 🤴
Love your energy! Books are indeed sick! Subbed :)
That is a stunningly gorgeous edition of Jane Eyre🖤
so happy to have found this new channel what a ray of sunshine!! the goldfinch is my favorite of donna tartt's and one of my favorites of all time, it's so dear to me i literally got goosebumps when you did the close ups 🤣 happy reading to you and wifey >.

Nick you're so likeable its ridiculous!
i never hear anything about carlos ruiz zafons books but i loved them all so much! can really recommend his books! the shadow of the wind is my favourite book of all time!
It's pretty dark in Poland, too in the middle of January. In fact, not so much winter but November is known for depression month.
Very fun video. I really enjoyed the close ups of the books, a little less crazy about the accompanying music.

Love your candor
Jane Eyre was one that surprised me. That edition is beautiful! Talk to Me was also very good.

ill be tuning in every week! 😁
Read Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich about 35 years ago and I never forgot it. It set me off on a lifelong interest in WWII history. Great book!
Jurassic Park is my comfort movie. Can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. 2024 for sure!
Makes me so happy everytime your videos pop up in my subscription box :)
I’m a little over halfway through the goldfinch right now! It is incredible so far
Man seeing that Jurassic Park edition took me back! It was on my parents shelf for ages before I cottoned on it was the same as the film, I was quite young! :)

The Goldfinch is one of my favorite books of all time.

Love the channel and your IG!
Requesting more nonfiction!

For the coffee thing, try and get coffee without artificial sweetener. That’s usually what triggers my anxiety. No artificial sweeteners, zero anxiety
Nice video. I have read most of the books on your list and in my humble opinion hands-down Jurassic Park is the best. It’s almost the perfect book. Keep it up!!
My tiktok algorithm brought you to me and yet here you are again. So excited youve got a youtube channel now!
The Jane Erye is beautiful!
Love the longer content!

nick, your videos are pretty sick! love this channel :)
Had the same problem as you with coffee. Switch to decaf, best of both worlds!
I’m about 90% thru with Pride and Prejudice, first time reading a Jane Austen and I am hooked! 😊
Speaking of anxiety, here’s the The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich! Love ya Nick. Thanks for jumping on UA-cam, love hearing your commentary
Hello, Nick of Books Are Sick! 😊
Nick, I love this new you tube! I miss the podcast, is that no longer going to happen? Love hearing from your wife too! Really enjoy your videos, you have reignited my love for Stephen King.
Donna
There’s a great podcast episode on Design Matters by Debbie Millman where she interviews Chip Kidd, the person who designed the Jurassic Park cover
I just finished Jane Eyre a few days ago and can tell you it is WONDERFUL!! Enjoy!
Loved Jurassic Park book, I read it before the movie came out (yep, I’m that old😆).
Omg i've been waiting for your channel.
I loved picture of dorian gray
Omg a third comment, so happy to find another Canadian. And holy toledo I usually love dull weather but damn, this is getting ridiculous.
You should check out Perfume by Patrick... Süskind. If you like books about strange.. serial killer esque ppl. The ending is INSANE. Also, it was Kurt Cobain's fav book
I’m in Alaska so I understand about the dark lol
Hey very cool alexisonfire tattoo :)
Do a tutorial on how you break in books
The Rise & Fall of the Third Reich is on my list for this year. I have had it for a long while.
I enjoyed The Goldfinch very much.

So jealous or the weather out there. Here in Argentina is summer and I love cold weather.
I couldn't finish Dorian Gray. The dialogues were kind of long monologues and I got annoyed early on.
Nick. Lift weights not tattoos. You'll get over your panic attacks.
Just started reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
books are sick
Nick, you r sick
Yes literally. He’s still a little sick with that cough. 🤣🤒
Look I am Polish American and I speak for myself and probably 90% of the other Polish peoples out there. You don’t need to cover up the logo of the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. We won’t get butt hurt.

Mostly just herbal teas :)
@@booksaresickAhh, those are lovely. And you are right, caffeine free.
