I’m now certain BMW has just been playing us all along

- The 2023 3.0 Coupe Sport Light is an even more aggressive version of the already angry M4 CSL.
Inspired by the gorgeous 2015 3.0 CSL Hommage and of course the original 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL, the transformation from concept to production is in my opinion one of the best I’ve seen to date with the production car looking more throughout and simply better than the concept from 2015.
And in this video, I want to show you why. I’m going to analyze this design and show you why this design is going back to proper BMW style. Something that’s been lacking the past few years.
Unfortunately, this will be a very rare car. BMW is limiting the production to only 50 cars.
Most of its body panels are made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic and fiberglass making it 60 pounds lighter than the already lightweight M4 CSL.
It will also make your bank account lighter with a price tag of $750,000.
It’s powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six producing 553 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Exactly the drivetrain I want to see in a BMW performance coupe.

This grill needs to be printed and stick to every wall in BMW designers’ offices worldwide.
looks like absolute garbage
😂😂😂
Still not as good as the he regular m340i. Needs to be even shorter, with a blank spot for the license plate between it and the lower bumper intake
@@vukashin88 Agree!
This one is not really an improvement.
AHAHAHAH
That grill is 100x better than the standard one
and it only costs 10x more, what a deal
Right. Makes you wonder why they didn't just make this the standard front end from the beginning. Then again, it is a 2023 model. So maybe the 2023 models will have this front end standard (doubtful)?
The standard one fits the car more
The taillights looks better
And still far from looking good
They need to facelift the standard M4 and M3 at the front to look like the 3.0 CSL, as well as include the new taillights from the M4 CSL and the 3.0 CSL to unify the lineup. It needs to happen
Wonder why they face lifted the normal ones but not the M’s
@@21sled I don’t think they facelifted the normal ones either
@@mrsoisauce9017 they face lifted the M340i and some others but not the Ms
@@Chris8n that’s already confusing tho, because the standard 3-series retains BMW’s older design language (which is what got facelifted), but the M3 got its design from the new BMW M4. It’s a decision that thoroughly puzzles me
@@mrsoisauce9017 it’s weird because the M3/M4 are the exact same car it’s just that one is a coupe and the other is a sedan. Back in the old days you will only get M3’s and no M4, but they decided instead of making the M3’s coupes and convertible’s they renamed it to the M4, so the M4 actually gets it’s design from the M3. But I’m expecting them to do LCI of the Ms maybe next year, they usually do it after 3 years
I am elated but soo mad at them for this.
They legit are playing us lol.
This thing is gorgeous and we just get 50 of it!?
Yeah, naah, yeah, we don't get any of it.
It is $750k… they are all going to be stuffed into collectors vaults. Who is going to spend more money on an m4 than the price of a GT2 RS?
@@alextasarov1341 hell I would without hesitations... And I guess all 50 are sold out immediately
Bmw playing the wag strat. They do like lambo and their special edition that is just a aventador with modifed body. Now bmw wants money so they did this 3.0 csl, just a modified body of the m4 cs.
Don't worry, someone will make body panel mods for the M4 and sell them, since that's what most of this is.
E46 lower fascia, e92 headlights, F82 LCI2 angel eyes, a GOOD looking kidney grille that we all know. This is what everyone wanted from the g80/g82
The grill is still too tall, but a nice improvement nonetheless
It works because the grille is more upright, shield shaped, and lunges forward like the old 70s CSL. The M4 doesn't work as its the same width at the top as the bottom therefore is both horizontally and vertically symmetrical making it less dynamic and more static. Plus the M4 with the double horizontal bars makes it look like a air vent on a disused alien space ship. And I don't mean that in a good way.
I like how the 3.0 cal still has the proper old school bmw interior without the giant hilarious screen stuck on the dashboard…
It looks so much better than M4. Now they need to redesign M4 based on this CSL.
I wish but we all know they wont
I think the LCI will be based on this I heard
@@clutched77 yo that would be sick
@@clutched77 doubtful. BMW doesn’t listen to their customers anymore
This car would lose its uniqueness if they redesigned the M4 after it .. doesn’t make sense .
That gear knob looks like it’s lifted from a 1975 3.0 CSL, it is almost exactly what original bmw gear knobs used to look like
Yeah looks great and all but close to a million for an m4 with some body panels and a manual gearbox? Absolutely insane
I had the exact same thought
I think the BMW Design bottom is reached and behind us.
Now it goes upwards !
hopefully
No this is rock bottom.. they’re giving us back everything they took from bmw design and are charging over 700k for it. At that, it’s just all body paneling laid over a standard m4 lol
They're taunting us. Showing us what could have been but charging 700k for it so...
Hopefully some of these elements make their way to the facelift of the M3/4.
The tail lights not stretching so far along the side is a big improvement too imo.
I think it looks a lot better than the M4 but those thin led taillights look weird. Also I'm not a fan of the wing on the roof but it is iconic so it's ok.
Seems kinda hypocritical to me if its iconic its ok but if its not connected to their roots then its blasphemy
The wing on the roof is too gimmicky to me. Since its primary function is to reduce air separation created by the steep C-pillar angle in the original car which is not necessary in the new one.
@@Parvikinji It's only there as a tribute no other reason, people wouldve complained if it didn't have it
I love the taillights honestly, it's just unique, had me staring at it the whole time
I think the taillights are super cool
This is a big slap on the face to those who thinks G80 M3/M4 Grill is good looking.
Again, the problem is never with big grills, but the proportion and shape.
To be honest I dont like the 3.0 CSL at all.
It has really weird fat ass proportions whereas the M4 looks way more slick. In real life I don't think the grill of the m4/m3 is ugly the only bad thing about it, is the license plate because its placed right in the middle of the grill which destroys the design.
I still don't think the M3/4 grills look bad at all, in fact, they grew on me so much that I don't like the older horizontal ones. It's kinda Alfa Romeo-like in a way, in that it's weird, but looks weirdly good. If Alfa didn't exist, and a brand new car brand came out and made their front signature grill the way Alfa Romeo does, everyone would hate it and say it's ugly. But because it's an Alfa and it's traditional, everyone loves it. Same with the M3/4. The problems on the M3/4 aren't actually the front grills...it's the proportions from the profile, the lack of the traditional kink on the rear side windows that BMW is famous for, and particularly how the rear quarter panels on the M3 transition from the doors, where the panels just don't align, looks like aftermarket bodywork.
I still think it looks good. Maybe its a slap to your face coz u cant afford it and people still keep buying them 😂
The 3.0 CSL's grill is still big though...
@@markerstyler Why should he care if he can afford it or not.
He still finds it ugly...
So we’re just gonna act like they didn’t take a normal m4 and just added a bunch of panels on it lol
That's what I thought when I saw the car.
They’ve made the same mistake as Lamborghini did with the new Countach. They shouldn’t have done a remake of the original 3.0CSL. Especially not as an M4 with some makeup on it. This could’ve been a facelifted version of the new M4/M4 CSL in the future.
It's not just about it, but the price makes it nonsense
@@cesarpereyra3455 It’s gonna depreciate quickly I assume.
@@konmi3691 Not likely, most limited run bimmers hold or increase in value, one example would be the M4 GTS

wow its been ages since i came accross a professional video like this! good job !
The grill still looks funny, I'm pretty sure they made it shorter but wider so there's no difference really
It’s the lower section that’s gives it balance
True 😂
Still ugly!
@@jambear7862 you could say the same about the normal M3 since the license plate makes the grille look smaller
I'm impressed how you can explain all the lines of the cars and you can see what the designer thought 💯 you should design ❤️ cars yourself I think they will be just beautiful
I love this car, the grill looks so much more refind.

Slap a Pontiac logo on it!
Hoping to see this grill on newer BMWs even tho it's still a little bit big
Thanks for your comment feel free to reach out i have something for you......... 🎁 📩
It really is big...
Not that good looking either.
i do prefer the 2015 concept, and now i'm curious why you say this production car is better than the concept! will you do a video comparing the two?
Yeah the concept is still better, this one is basically using only a part of the design template to be more production friendly. To this day the only production BMW managed to look like it's concept is the i8.
im just happy that they smoothen the bonnet
@bembli, what device do you use to draw directly into photoshop? Thank you for the amazing videos!!
The M2 based homage to the CSL looked pretty good, this one looks like a riced out Mustang
You may need to get yourself a pair of glasses asap
@@boondockbwoy14 Nah bro, BMW needs to hire a new pair of designers
@@RogueBeatsARG Nope place them side by side and you tell me it looks like a mustang you def require an eye examination
I see zero Mustang in this car.
yeah concept was so much angry and so much muscular and mascular this is just m4 with some bodykit
i love those model cars on the background, where did you get them from
I think the concept looks way better i think its a shame that a 750k car shares almost all its design features with the regular m4 like this is supercar money were talking about and your buying a big bulky m4 with slightly less weight and a bit more power
Not just the wheight and power there are several other reworked parts to this than an M4 --drivetrain, chassis, suspension, gearbox, wheels/brakes etc..
If it looked like the concept, it would be a bit more justifiable
100% agree ... concept is 1000x times better and when you looking at concept it realy worth for 750k$ but this is just m4 with some bodykit not even close to concept
@@boondockbwoy14 still not worth it i could buy myself a much faster and better driving car for less money
@@Person-cv9dj Thats not the point of the car... People completely misunderstood the i8 in the same way, it was never ment to be a R8/AMG GT rival but its own car. Same applies with this. If you have to decide between this and another car in the same price region it's not for you. The 50 people getting these will all be BMW collectors who could care less about performance or price.
Jeeez, a 6 speed manual transmission, that's going to be one of the most exciting BMW to drive. It's all about the shifting and double clutching like you should.
6:18 I think that the problem comes from another direction, you could have different sized wheels, but only (for me) makes sense when the profile is equivalent, like in a 911. In cars like these, in which the wheels have the same diameter, different sized rims makes the car look wrong
Finally this concept car comes to life
The best design I’ve seen on any front engine rear drive.
I remembered the CSL homage good few years ago, hope it goes into production now tbh
Some parts of the front, like how the, now rounded, edges of the headlights and the side fender 'indent/design feature' reminds me of the e92 m3
Hey bro I appreciate your videos, could you do a reaction on the BMW M2 Vision GT
Thats my favourite design
The concept is still miles ahead. I don't like this one either. Better than before, but still a nope from me.
Hahahaha 🤣 and who cares about your opinion 🤣
God himself could not please you
You're right!👍
They added some 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept design elements to a regular M4, but some key elements are missing: The sharknose for example! When you look at the Hommage and this 3.0 CSL... They look similar, but the Hommage still looks better and more elegant! It's all about proportions and modelling out shapes, and this car here looks more or less like a regular M4 with an additional "3.0 CSL Hommage" Body Kit... It still looks better than any actual M4, but not worth 750K!🤷🏼♂️
Agree!
The grill is still massive...
Not really an improvement.
@@einautofan6685 I'm pretty sure the value isn't just about its looks. I'm also pretty sure that actually 750k will turn out ot be an under value and in 50 years it will be worth a hell of alot more. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying, had I the money, I would pay 750k for one but I think its price will probably be the lowest you will ever see it, implying the initial price is under value as the value of a product is determined by the market in the long run.
where do you get your little car models that are in your background
I am curious and haven't followed BMW in a while (even tho i worked in Münich BMW plant), but do they still use the ZF gearbox in the new ones?
Nice video, thank You 👍
2:43 Circular bumper intake - > E46 CSL but this was also design reference to the original 3.0 CSL from 1973. Road cars and some versions of racing cars, has it.
Agree with the kidney grill - limited version do it much better than regular M4. But in my opinion kidneys should be even less tall I suggest - 20% of height. That will creates more horizontal front layout and even more "angry" and dynamic front look. As a designer, feel free to test :)
so cool man!!!! I absolutely love it!!!!😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩🤩❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💪💪💪💪💪❤❤❤❤❤❤
So is this the su58 engine variant they have been holding out? I’m surprised the specs are so close to s58 numbers.
nvr excited in this new bmw gen........BUT this one. GORGEOUS ❤️
The G80/G82 grill is 🔥 in person I love it
Where’d you get the model cars?😊
The circle openings in the front bumper are from the original 3.0 csl
2:42 Those circle intakes on the front bumper were most likely derived directly from the original 3.0 CSL (obviously the singular circle intake on the M3 CSL also derived its style from the 3.0 CSL)
I think its still held back by the awful 4 series foundations... wouldve looked better based on the last gen
I do Not think so pal
@@Fanboy1222 I do
Edit: for all the people sayin we're bitching just for the sake of It, you don't see people hating on the new M5 CS do you? Well that's because the M5 CS doesn't have hitler's moustache Instead of kidney grills on the front of It. It also has a balance of elegance and sport unlike the new 3/4 series which don't know what they wanna be. There's no sex appeal to them for me and they look repulsive. This comes from someone who loves most of the well known BMWs so It's not like I'm some sort of fanboy of another brand who came bashing on the side for the sake of It so stop treating my critique like It and learn that just because you like something doesn't mean that everyone who doesn't like It Is wrong.
nahh the new 4 series has a lot of nice design elements, it only needed a more aggresive side and maybe a different grill design
At this point people will just bitch about anything thats designed by bmw
@@Person-cv9dj Because they did in fact have bad design compared to last gen.
Amazing car, bad price tag. $750,000 is a lot of money. I bet it’s somewhat a collectible but $750,000 for an M4 is crazy lol
Still prefer the thinner front lights of the concept but it is old school crazy bmw styling
I have been saying the new G82 M4 would look amazing with a spoiler wing similar to a Supra or E36 M3. It looks like they have done it. It is a super small version, but it looks amazing with it. I don't know what that style of wing is called, but the GT style wings that connect to the width sides of the trunk. Not the huge wings with the skinny bars attached the car.
amazing design
This is the best looking BMW to date. Love the wide body kit and wing.

I didnt hear you bring up the m3 csl concept this looks almoet exacly alike from years ago
Good to see the design is improving but did you say 750000?
As a BMW fan, the summary is that this design is "less bad". I'll be a fuddy-duddy and stick with the older generations.
Is this a preview of the M3/4 refresh? I sure hope so because this is far and away better than the current ones (minus the Infiniti-lite taillights)
What is the flat area called on almost ALL cars, that edges the wheel arches?
The CSL looks better in the lack of that tedious repetitive detail alone 🤓
About time BMW’s Exterior Design Team came out with something proper! I’ll take it in Black 🖤 or Nardo Gray.
Pretty sure the 3.0 CSL has the same head and taillights as the M4 CSL, which in turn has the same head and taillight dimensions as the regular M4, so those perceived changes must be due to the viewing angle.
In general, the 3.0 CSL seems to have the same body-in-white as the M4 with different (CFRP) body panels for the fenders, front, rear etc.
True!
That new grill isn't that good looking either.
It's still big...
Keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that the LCI 4 series has this grill
9:13 the problem with the position of the number-plate is, that it hides the turbo- intercooler!!
Please just do a redesign
( 2:49 e46 inspired grill),
where you shrink the bottom of the kidney-grill more to the top,
so the number plate can take the middle position, right infront of the crash bar behind the bumper.
Thanks ! feel free to reach out, i have something for your .......!!!🔝🔝🔝
I like the big grills
This made me really happy.
Another dream car on the bucket list
You too can have the grille that should have always been on the 3/4 series for only $750k!
The front end and whole car look so much better. It’s like the designers finally realized that they should change it, the joke is over. Outside stealing the rear lights from an Acura TLX, it looks much much more like BMW roots. I’m surprised that just a few little styling points can change the overall shape of the car. Amazing!! Oh, and nice GT3 wheels too 😉
This will go up in value
Hopefully a refreshed M3 and M4 get this grille, way more cohesive to the bodywork
It's still big though!
This is great, I like the concept better
They know where to place the hood line correctly! But they had to ruin it on the M4… let’s hope they’ll fix it with the M4’s LCI!
that headlight shape screams e9x m3. ngl I would love for an LCI g80 to have a grill that is similar to this.
Welcome back BMW beautiful design !!! Next gen Ms with this fender will be amazing, completely correcting the g8x front
The best looking BMW were created a long time ago...
The grill here is different but still too big...
Not really a beauty!
Wondering if the M4 will get a life cycle impulse that changes the grill to look more like the CSL.
Looks fantastic all around and that grill is just right, I could even say perfect! Makes you wonder why didn't they make the front of M3 and M4 like this 🤔 Now it seams like it was all a joke 😂 If I bought one of those two and now saw 3.0 CSL I'd be pissed 🙄😤🙆♂😂 But price is outrageous 🤑
Thanks for your comment feel free to reach out i have something for you.... 🎁 📩
It is a joke but it still gets sold... 😂
That's what BMW wants!
This has to be in the cards for an LCI on the M3 and M4. I get that they have been pretty firm and defensive about their new design direction and that all press is good press yadda yadda but there’s a reason most cars don’t stay fugly for multiple generations.
That side view makes the CSL look a lot more like a Mustang! :-)
It doesn't look BAD like the standard M4 but it's extremely lackluster and still pales in comparison to the overall design language of the prior generation of M4. Too boy racer for me but it's definitely an improvement despite the very low bar.
THis redo is like when your teacher hands your test back to you with all the right answers written in on all the questions you missed. I'd say the junior stylist at BMW just got owned by a senior stylist with this edition.
i thought they scraped that csl hommage concept
I see that they reduced the lung grills almost back to the iconic kidney grills
Finally BMW got it again! The grille is much better than in the 4 series / M4. This front is proper BMW DNA.
Yeah those minor tweak made it way better looking
Looks awesome! I truly hope this design language trickles down on the rest of the bmw lineup - getting out of the unpropitious ridiculous lunge-grill era.
I suspect a LOT of aftermarket companies are going to start replica CSL window overlays for the M4 ;)
the shape of the Headlights give me a e92 m3 vibe
It's just a damn shame they'll be making only 50 of them... All we can wish for is that the LCI of the G80/G81/G82 gets a few design cues of the 2023 3.0 CSL. Especially the kidneys.
A CSL should have been with NA engine and a weight below 1.5T. This would be a blast.
The video is soo good :)
The only thing that bothers me is you calling the "Hofmeister Knick" "Hofmeister Kink"

But otherwise great video, keep going :))
Isn't it Hofmeister Kink? I mean the video from BMW USA says it's Hofmeister Kink.
@@Amarjit_Singh I mean, in german its called Hofmeister knick😅

I hope they never miss this BMW-Detail in any new Model and i cant realy understand why the did changed it, i mean porsche would also never change such an icon Sidewindow shape which everybody know and is similar and happy with it!
The problem with the big grill on the standard M3/M4 is not so much the big grill but the horizontal bars. They 're now doing the same thing with the new M2 and it looks bad too. If it were vertical bars, it would look way better and refined.
Now we wait for M2 CSL Limited
