I think we owe Chris Bangle an apology.
Chris bangle's designs weren't that ugly.. in fact the old iconic 2000s bmw cars were designed by chris himself
@@user-lq5nh1hm1xe46 also has bangles hands in it
Nah.
Absolutely 👍🏻
all the negative comments on instagram made BMW do this lol
I've never seen the whole of car community coming together and celebrating this much...can't wait what BMW brings in future
but Rolls Royce would look worse instead especially that controversial designer goes there, Bangle? got immediately fired after his designs
I've never seen you without a hat! 💀
Probably been doing hair treatment. Time to show off!
damn i was wondering why he looks diferent
Without hat and glasses!🤓
@@ChristianFlory woah, you’re right 🤯
I don’t think any of us have
No hat? This new Bembli design is so streamlined!
😂😂😂
@@jonny5alive123 the line flow is peak
As you can see we have pretty sleek proportions
Hahaha!!! Finally!! We all knew they messed up. I hope the new designers get it right
🧂
Those sales went down so bad when they introduced this generation of design
@@redhunnid5142proof ?
@redhunnid5142 it actually didn't go down.
@@redhunnid5142 this statement is factually so wrong i dont even know what to say. Literally almost all BMW-Modells have increased their sales massiveley over the last 10 years.
No hat is insane.
Traction alopecia has him by the balls
Yeah especially since he was born with a hat he had surgery to remove it
We have two news here
New bmw designers
Bembli without hat🌚
Deleting the hat shows off the dynamic line flow of your face and highlights the emotional depth of your eyes.
The beard gives your face a nice planted base for your facial features to build upon and works as a proper chamfer; with different thicknesses - which adds to the emotional vibe.
😌
I’m just being silly. 😀
Keep up the great work on your videos. I hope BMW has a renaissance of design, proportions, and that “old money” confident (non-trendy) look they used to have.
Lmaoo
As long as cleaner simpler doesn't mean "minimalist," or even worse, "Tesla," we should be in business
the Cybertruck is an absolute abomination compared to BMW's design
BMW went from making the most beautiful cars in the world to making angry toasters. An absolute disaster.
With the previous head of design being moved to Rolls Royce, I wonder how RRs will look in a few years
Ahh. So that's why RR has the split headlights like the 7-series now...
@@timeslowingdown the Ghost 2nd generation facelift has a designed penned by him
@@seansiew5629 The man really believes in his vision with those headlights then, hahaha

Hats off on that decision
1st Gen Z4 still looks amazing today, that design hasnt aged a bit
100%
I own the coupe and I love it.
Bro looks fresh without the hat.
The problem issue with BMW design in recent years was an overly fussy approach to surfaces with many incongruent details. At the end of the day, it's really about proportions and that is something BMW got right for so many years.
the 5 series, 1 and 2 series lineup as a whole explains your description
Using same platform and body for ice and electric had very negative impact on proportions. Hopefully it’s get better from here with bmw going to ground up ev approach
Ehh last 5 years have been terrible not 10. F8X is one it the most beautiful cars I have seen.
I agree with you
Yeah they're peak.
Rip Rolls Royce 😂
smaller grilles for RR
I will never buy a bmw with the current screen setup. It’s like a 3 year old put it there. I just don’t get it.
Yeah I am surprised by these German cars interior choices. Mercedes infotainment screen looks like an old massive Samsung tablets.
Bmw looks like they attached a gaming monitor to the top.
I am currently waiting on audi. I have seen the a5 and it is also a big screen but it does look more professionally put with a housing. Audis have made generally great interiors and I am waiting to see the future lineup. But man Do I like the Early 2010s car interiors in cars like the e93 m3.
The thumbnail is one of the best modern BMW Designs, it looks so good and they didn't produce it, instead they produce the shit looking M2
At this point I'm just happy if they stay away from the Neue Klasse design language...
@@LittleMissSmallPaw Neue Klasse is all EV lineup
@@seansiew5629 your point?
neue klasse is fire
G80 grill was the breaking point
I want f series designers back
Domagoj Dukec was 1000% the problem and glad he's gone. What he did to the M2 to M5 is unforgivable..such an eyesore compared to the previous generations. Good riddance and won't be missed.
I hate Dukec 😡
M3 and M4 grills also💔
The new designs will be made available from 2030 onwards, until then, they have everything already planned out with the currently design philosophy
6 more years of shit
@@Kxvito neue klasse looks good
@@ramp7857 in the toilet
How they go from the absolutely perfect design of the G11 7-Series (pre-LCI) to the monstrosities they have today, I have no idea.
F01 7 series still looks the best of any 7 series besides the E38, the G11 looks bland and uncharacteristic tbh, had driven in a w222 and g11 back to back, but the w222 looks way better and drives better
@@seansiew5629 I agree that the F01 is also a great piece of design, but I prefer the G11. Being a previous owner of a G11, there might be some bias but I prefer the subtly added agression to the design over the F01.
Agree that pre LCI 7 series was a stunning design.
I never understood the hate on Bangle. Besides the 7-series and maybe the 6-series, his designs were pretty good. Innovative, good line flow and proportions, strong identity, and fresh. The E60 is my favorite design of his. It has excellent line flow, proportions, and nothing else looks like it.
The weird designs started with the 2020 7 series for me with that big ass grill
This is really exciting. BMW design recently has been so confusing and all over the place. However, one thing i really appreciated about this era was how aggressive the design language was. Minus the weird fronts, the headlights (m3/m4/m5/m8) and especially the rear tail lights look so freaking cool. I hope they keep the aggressiveness of these cars.
I don't know about this change. Polestar cars almost look too clean as if a computer designed them. They're not bad looking but wouldn't call their design passionate. The results for future BMW models will be interesting, that much can be said.
I thought this too initially, however the brand identity is separate from the effectiveness of the design. Polestars, with their clean Scandinavian identity, were designed well. Hopefully the new guy can bring back the sporty and confident BMW identity with good design 👌
@@Marc_prime I'm hoping the change will bring improvements. The last half decade has introduced much controversy in the styling of the marque's lineup. I honestly can't think of a single model in that time that made may desire to own it except possibly the 8-series, which is unattainable anyway.
@@jamesaron1967 Agreed, the 8 series remains the most beautiful, yet aggressive, model. I'd love to buy one second hand in 10 years :)
The Monstrosities: last 2 and Current 7 series, X7, new X3, new 5 series, new 2 series, new X6. 4 series is okay despite vertical grille. The decent ones: previous gen 5 series, 😊 new X5, previous x3 and X4.
The nice ones: 8 series and 3 series, Z4
Bangle’s weren’t great either but they had identity and flow imo
BMW’s should be clean, distinct and should have confidence as Bembli said
Totally agree, but I have to say the G30 /F90 5-series/M5 LCI really just buttered my bread when I first saw them. I think they are the cleanest looking BMWs of the last 5 years, on par with the pre-LCI G20 3-series.
I currently own a 2008 E60 M5, that design in my view has aged extremely well and didn’t deserve the hate early on…
think djukec was the problem, he was taking ugly bmw design and explaining why they are beautiful (in his mind)
in my opinion, if something is beautiful it needs no words to explain why that is so, for example take bugatti tourboulion, when you look at it you just go wow
same thing needs to happen with bmw again
now we need Mercedes to do the same
Relax merc is cool ,we just them to get a more emotional engine😅😅😅
indeed, the Maybach is all about stamping logos and perceived as "luxury" look at the Maybach SL, that thing is absolutely hideous
I'm still a big fan of the Neue Klasse concepts. They need to continue developing those ideas.
Can we talk about Blembi without a hat 🔥
I don't like the double hump or the massive screen floating on the dash. It should be integrated into the dash properly. Flowing across the entire dash.
Why is Dukic being compared to Bangle. Shouldn't it be Adrian van Hooydonk who still heads up design at BMW?
both of the designs penned by them are absolutely controversial which is why, people back then hated the e65 for being too revolutionary
No cap, that's a first
About time 🙌🏻 BMW shuffles Design deck ♠, there has been zero consistency, and there needs to be! Yes, I want to go back to the integrated dual-screen dashboards M cockpits!!!
no hat, nice BMWs hopefully a good future
On the digital dash topiic - there's also the effect on resale value as we've seen how tech that seems world-class can age in 15-20 years. Not to mention the realiability of the standard guage cluster and ofc as you mentioned the simplicity.
Firstly, I am happy for everyone who's been complaining, we have new designers.
However I would like to stress a point here, it was BMW who said that they want every model to look distinctively different from one another within their line-up of cars. They even made a point about the interior - that it will looks the same across most offerings but on the outside, every model will have its own unique look.
At this point just forget design or anything like that . Absolutely unimportant right now. The top problem is - they are not able to produce electric cars with profit and needed tech level. (Just like VW btw.) The main problem is , if they don't figure it out in the near future, they will seize to exist ^^ No amount of design will solve this.
BMW made record sales in 2023 and are currently the top selling premium car brand. They have gained more new fans to the brand, than they have lost. Their model line up is diverse, with both conservative and extrovert designs (ie 8 series and 4 series).
Exactly. I can appreciate what BMW has done when it comes to design and driving experience. Idk why folks hate on it so much. The sales prove they did something right.
@@Sergesedd22 I would say they are selling DESPITE the often poor outside design, not thanks to it. Their cars drive well, have good interiors, power delivery, good fuel economy, are now pretty reliable, tech works well, they're just a nice place to be. Inside that is. Imagine if some of their ugly cars also looked awesome rather than terrible...!
I own a 2022 X3, which is one of the alright looking ones. I would've preferred to buy an Audi Q5, they look better, have a better stereo and nicer seats, but the Audi just does NOT have a B58 engine, it has a lazy chassis, lazy brakes, a small. trunk, way worse fuel efficiency, no emotion driving it.
@@Sergesedd22also people just sometimes need to warm up with new designs. Take the current M3 and 4-series with the nostrils. Everybody was losing their minds - myself included- but we just had to warm up with it. Now I am sure there are still lots of hardcore fans who hate anything new and different by default and still dont like the m3/4-series. But lots of people now agree that the current 3- series and 4-series, especially with the 40i and M-versions are one of the best to date
No shot that current front end is terrible. Ex F82 owner. I’ll be back after the 7 year design failure.
Internet always gonna hate. Sales don't lie.
massive news from BMW and massive news from Bembli without a hat
Which car will be the first to come out with this new era of design?
Most likely 3 series 4 series and 8 series those cars are about ready for a complete redesign
I don't really mind the designs after 1990 (apart from a few) but I know a lot of people will probably be interested 0:04
Infamous Domagoj Dukec is expedited to Rolls Royce and is in fact replaced by two guys:
- Oliver Heilmer (coming from MINI) who will lead the design of "small and middle-class BMWs, as well as ///M models"
- Maximilian Missoni (coming from Polestar) who will lead the design of "upper middle-class and luxury BMWs"
QUESTION: 1 and 2 Series are clearly compact vehicles, but which "class" does the 3 Series belong to? Middle-class, or upper middle-class? Oliver Heilmer, or Maximilian Missoni? Contrary to what the article cited in the video claims with incomplete information, the name of the person who will lead the design of the next BMW 3 Series is not clear.
Finally I’m so hyped I can’t wait for the first car they release, I’m guessing they’ll probably redesign the next generation 3 series 8 series is also overdue for redesign or x7.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. As a BMW fan, I’m a big fan of Bangle designs, almost 20 years later, they are still beautiful cars. What I do not want, is my favorite auto maker to turn into a sweetish ikea auto brand style. Don’t get me wrong, they make great cars but I personally want to see BMW go back to cross between Bangle and generations before.
I hate the last 2 years of BMW interior designs. iPads are for hand use, not driving. I would love to see interiors go back to the cockpit designs wrapping the driver with the controls. Integrate digital designs and allow the users to switch between analog digital gauges and maybe newer styles. Bring back dashes and shifters, buttons, etc. and make the line up flow from top to bottom. Thanks.
2:14 i think g20 pre lci is a good design but everything else in last 5 years is not thats when the downfall started. Also e90/e60/e65 was a low point which we see now wasnt that bad but some of the best designs came after. Yes e90 lci in black and m package looks cool but still.
Bangle era cars (aside from the 7 series) aged remarkably well though
I'm not the biggest fan of the 2 screens solutions in the dashboard, but i can really say i hate volvo interior. That middle screen with those horrible vents is what keeps me up at night.
The problem with current BMW styling is that it's better suited to diesel locomotive design than a luxury automotive design.
I'm looking at their cars today and I'm just wondering what's wrong with just making beautiful cars for a change?
I was waiting for this news.
I've been waiting for it since the Skytop concept was presented, it couldn't be a coincidence.
Owned E30 (still own a 1991 318is), E36 M3, and E46 M3. Moved on to 911. I had 2009 997.2 Carrera, now I own 2024 992.1 Carrera. Bring back the design that made BMW an Ultimate Driving Machine - E30 like design..
Agreed about the Volvo and Polstar clean lines. 2016 F82 M4 owner here… I’m not really objective but I think the F82 design is still great after 8 years and one of the best from BMW in the 21st century. 👍🍻 I’ll drive it as long as possible…..it has been flawless thus far. 😊
I was searching and id say in 2016 with the X2 concept it started to go wrong, then in 2017 it went wrong already with concept cars and since the x7 in 2019 its been getting worse. But i do like the current m3, m2 and m5 to be honest.
From the looks, I think they took the VGT concept and reimagined it
Great news but keep in mind that its never a one person job to decide everything that goes into BMW cars. I think that they needed to change many more people in design team to have a new vision and direction. Because keeping the same people who design current uggly BMW is not a great idea going forward with the new car models. Its all a group effort to come together and create something unique - not a one persons job…
How will all the new designers affect the Neue Klasse designs? Will this new team affect the cars after the Neue Klasse generation?
Must be hugh news , recording without no hat 😅
Didn’t bangle apologise for the prefacelift 7er e65?
he got fired immediately
@@seansiew5629it wasnt exactly immediately?
Beaver grills are just stunning 😂😂😂
I hope new desing chef change boring interiors and add buttons on the dash as well..
Funny thing is the new G8x cars have sold more than the F8x cars and I see a lot of em on the road.
For me, the golden era of BMW's design was 80's and 90's.
G87 M2 owners getting upset now knowing they’ve made many excuses to “like” their M2’s design and now the design is going to get redesigned for the better…
I'm glad that you ditched the baseball cap. You look much better without that cliche.
I owned an E36 Schnitzer I also liked the looks of Z3 wide-body, M3 CSL and 1M. I now own a lovely 981 Cayman
Whoever designed the 2012-2019 BMW 3/4 series as well as the M3/M4. The 5 series 2017-2024 and the M5. The 8 series aswell as previous X5/X6. And previous 2 series/M2
..BMW needs to get those guys back.
Mini designer is also changed, doing this just after launching the new models is a bit strange, maybe a restyling coming in some years with the new designer
2:52 I think it’s funny that while most people complained that ‘all cars look the same nowadays’, BMW is criticised for NOT making cars that look the same.
I think that BMWs are still very recognisable no matter how large or small the grill is.
Did Dukec also design the Fiat Multipla?
As a professional designer and artist for more than 10 years, I would like to say that we must be VERY sceptical about all this. Great professionals working together doesn't always translate into great results, specially when you have people with such different visions about the same thing. If anything, I think this may end up leading into more atrocious grils and disconnection between design laguage.
True, but could some of the current designs get any worse?
As someone who doesn't mind the big grille, Im ecstatic with this change. Big grilles can be nice if you know how to integrate them to the design, but it seems Dukec just doesn't know how to do that (or at the very least he doesn't want to.)
I wonder how will the new 3 series look?
Maybe you should show us what a Missoni designed BMW could look like, based on his work at Polestar?
Now these thumbnails look sexy. I have an i4 m50 atm and I got used to the beaver grill but the newer stuff just looked too whack. If they start going down the route of the thumbnail well still love you bmw
IMHO, the E65 7-Series is when I started to be disappointed by BMW's designs.
If I am not mistaken, Mr AVH, the current Head of BMW Group Design, was involved in the project, so let's see what this brings...
There is hope.
BEMBII WITHOUT NO HAT 🧢🗣️🗣️🗣️
Bembli just opened his sun roof
Personally the controversy started in 2020... 2010s was an amazing time for bmw I loved it so much
Chris Bengal is the last guy he should be referencing here.
BMW needs to do nothing short of designing retro versions of the e3, e9, e12, e23, and e24.
This is a SUPER high risk for BMW and bold move, keeping one eye open.....Volvo?
E60 is my favorite 5 series, followed by the e34 and the g30 msport
After the E46, bmw started to be just everywhere trying to look like everybody. Hopefully the new team will bring back those glorious days.
I think that is a welcome change and I hope there will fix that weird grill on the M4. Na bora wasiguze murima
Saw this on bmw forums and hot damn they need to make changes ASAP. The current cars look sooooo bad. Been seriously joking there's a sabotuer within BMW's design team. The only one that looks good is the new X1. The new team design can't seem to come to production fast enough. The interiors too need saving
Bembli: MASSIVE news from BMW!
Comments: no hat is crazy bro
I do like their m3 series design since 2021. M2, M3/4, M5,8, M7 all unique. Haters hate. All of the body aero dynamics is not what old school design can compare. Shape is more organic. Maybe M5/8 are close to what they had before. Others are sort of controversial.
From the polestar that I saw here, i prefer the current design of the BMW
Having the whole lineup with identical facias isn’t good either. Then you’ll end up like Audi where an A1 looks like an A3 and A5 and A7 and A8.
Possibly sad news for Polestar, but great news for BMW I guess. The Polestar 2 was designed for Volvo by Ingenlath before Polestar was a brand, so this doesn't mean we get another BMW as good looking as the E46 (facelift) or E60 yet, but at least theres hope.
As much grief as Bangle gets, considering BMWs formula up until him was so predictable that Lexus and even Mitsubishi could make BMWs future designs before they did themselves, he had no choice but to go away from the Chevrolet Corvair based line of design.
Chris Bangle is underrated
We got Bembii without a hat before…well you get the idea
Never thought I’d say this
Bring back Bangle
Great analysis, as always
That's fantastic news, hopefully a return to simpler more timeless designs
Great news as looking at the current 7 series there's no way I would part with my money for that. The side view (particularly the front wing area ) really doesn't work when up close rather than viewed in photos. Presumably the shape was needed to accommodate this huge front end design idea. I drive the LWB 7 series which I love and want to buy another one. So hopefully they will re-think what statement that car really needs to make as whilst technology and quirky exteriors date super quick, classic styling doesn't. Mercedes S Class has the same issue (although the situation reversed as the exterior is better than the interior) hence production lines have recently been cut back due to poor sales.
