If BMW made re-issue models of the golden era cars with updated tech and interiors, they would be shocked by the sales figures relative to their regular lineup
maDeiNtHe80s and they’re never going to respond because it’s an insane idea. I’m all for the older models, but this is something no car manufacturer could ever do, or will ever do. They don’t make parts for any of the older cars anymore. They would need to get outdated machinery, and tools, just to build these older cars into resto-modded modern ones. It’s an insane idea. It doesn’t happen. And it won’t happen.
@@BumpTune8462 you clearly have no idea. They do make part for old cars, brands taking special care of their image all do. It's not ideal in case of BMW but they still do. The retro design influence is also a big thing today. They could not produce a straight recreation of a 90s car, but for entirely different reason: compliance with modern rules and regulations.
You're looking at it from your perspective. BMW's management is looking at it from the global perspective. And globally, you are not the focal point for them any more. They cater to the Asian (i.e. Chinese) market today. That's why all 3 German premium brands have huge grilles and over the top features, Asians like that.
that green m5 cs is trulling stunning , it has to have been designed by another group or department from the ones that are designing the grills sorry i ment cars they are coming up with
Agreed the 2017 on, M5 always stunning to look at. Other 5 series can look awkward from certain angles but the m5 always stunning. Amazing how it is so similar but so different to other 5 series
The really weird thing is, whenever BMW is asked about it's design direction, they always seem to imply that the designs were customer lead, and the new cars reflect what people want. But then with every new BMW launched over the last 5 years or so, it seems like 80% of the feedback is very negative. There is clearly some strange disconnect happening there.
Disconnect between the opinions on the internet and the people who actually buy them. Internet community has zero impact on automaker's decision. BMW has continued to sell well everywhere, which proves their actual paying customers don't care about the design.
It's the Chinese Market, they have really Tacky sense of taste, and Automotive Company caters to them because they're the biggest market, it also applied to everything else you literally can blame the chinese for everything
@@ratamahatta5306 I have heard that BMW reference the Chinese marked, specifically with the 7-Series facelift which was the first one with the ugly oversize grilles. You might be right, they have probably influenced the styling of the other models too. It's just a pity BMW couldn't design an elegant face for their cars elsewhere in the world. The Chinese Market is big enough to justiful unique styling for it's own models.
@@nightdriver7216 I have bought like 3 BMWs, and as a buyer with a fist full of money, I'm not alone in thinking the G series and later are hideous. I'm done with them. I'll just buy and repair old ones.
The problem started when they started designing their cars having in mind overseas markets. They lost contact with the Germanic sense of aesthetics that combines functionality.
@@dontbeasadsouljaBuilt to suit the Chinese. Last year I was at a EV multi manufacturer convention. Some were fine and looked worth the money. The BMW i3 was there, with the big black kidney grill. Except it was just a sheet of black plastic with silver stars in the back. Cheap looking.
@@robertwillis4061 Yeah, Dieter Rams doesn't play well in China. As fugly as I think they are the grille has a vague sense or heritage, if you count the Garmisch, and they certainly make a statement, just not sure which.
I'm so confused. When the BMW i3 and i8 came out, I was blown away. They looked shockingly futuristic and made everything around them look tame and outdated in comparison. It felt like BMW was two steps ahead of every other company with its exciting, unique new design language and I was excited to see how the rest of the automotive industry would react. I was convinced that I would start seeing bold, futuristic new designs everywhere as companies tried their best not to get left behind while BMW updated their lineup to look 10 years ahead of everything else and then... none of that happened? BMW did nothing with this incredible new look instead of carrying it over to the rest of their lineup, and the rest of the automotive world basically stayed exactly the same. Instead of embracing the interesting use of gloss black paint to create beautiful two tone looks, smooth flowing curves and bold strokes of color to accentuate body lines, we got the two giant holes and all sorts of sharp, jagged creases thrown onto the faces of otherwise curvaceous bodies. Makes no sense. What a wasted opportunity.
There's really no such thing as futuristic design. Futuristic just means crass, science-fiction inspired designs. It's juvenile and lacks class which turns of the kinds of people who buy luxury German sedans.
I already put down my deposit for a new M3, but couldn't get over its "look", so instead I got a Alfa Giulia quadrifoglio at the end. 100x times better looking car imo
Completely agree with you, great decision! This is an example of BMW just lost their customer one by one. At the end they also will loss their loyal fans
@@michaelryoko9395 Still think they don't care. They will outsell the Alfa's by large numbers. Upside: Giulia quadrifoglio will always be more exclusive.
I have never seen someone make such a passionate video about BMW design and explain from an enthusiast perspective why BMWs design is going in the completely wrong direction. With that being said, it’s a shame that BMW lost that sporty elegance that made them such an iconic brand in the first place. Their 5 series is their last true BMW
I don’t think bmw is going in the wrong direction. They’ve never been afraid of doing something bold. There are still enthusiast cars. People are just stuck in the past and don’t want to look to the future. Another thing to think about is the e38 7 series going onto the e65. The e38 in my opinion and I think most, was the best looking 7 series. The e65 that came after actually looked like a nightmare, but it still sold more than the e38. BMW is just trying to appeal to their majority customers. Like it or not the direction they’re going in they’re still stronger than ever.
The irony is that the 5 Series, the 7 Series and the 8 Series, are the only ones that still have a lot of BMW DNA on them. But, if you want something "cheaper" there you go, no BMW DNA lol
Just wait until they fu*k up the next generation. I think they lack a real Design chief who has one vision only but now there is a lot of different people designing cars and the line up doesn’t make any sense. The regular G20 3-series looks still like a BMW because it doesn’t have that huge trout open mouth…
Just look at the spy shots of the redesigned 7 series, and facelifted X7 that will come soon. U can see how messed up the designs are EVEN with the camo.
@@pa2219 The Gran Coupe isn't bad, it's striking on the road. The 2 door is kinda meh to me, especially compared to it's rivals, but it is much better in person than in pics. In profile in pictures it just looks like a current mustang.
@gerhard goedhart what have you been snorting? The new “design” looks like a handicapped toddler took some crayons and scribbled on a page. Zero identity left and the M badge is extremely diluted now.
Back around 10 years ago, across my family's place, lived a female classmate of mine (shy, gorgreous girl, but not a romantic interest or anything). I was in year 10 at the time. Her dad had a silver E39 M5, with those iconic alloy wheels, leather interior with (im guessing fake? But quite quality looking?) wood panels. Anyhow, I would hear that car every morning he started it up, especially since their apartment block had an underground carpark, and the exhaust noise echoed slightly inside there... I ended straight up asking her dad if i could rideshare with them to school and he said yes... The conversations with the girl were a little awkward, but oh my god, her dad drove the wheels off the car between our places on the way to the school... That only lasted a little less than the school year (i think maybe 6-7 months total?), but it was absolutely awesome!!! Suffice to say, I've had a soft spot for E39 M5s ever since.
The homogenization of design language of all car makers is what gets me. Used to be, you could glimpse a BMW, Honda or Buick in your peripheral vision and know what it was. Nowadays, a Lexus, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, they all look the same.
People like to say design is subjective but it really isn’t. The new bmws are objectively worse. I don’t want to say horrible, but definitely worse. Something just isn’t right. It’s not right. It’s wrong. What a shame. Their m4, the first, is one of the best looking man made items of all time
@@jensonwilliams9404 This is not at all about driving. This is about car design. You know, the outside of the car that you have to look at when you’re not driving it.
@@Stierenkloot So true. I remember seeing E36s and E39s as a kid and I would still be excited to see a surviving E30 or something. I remember how desirable they were, EVERYONE wanted one. I've never given it much thought until I watched this video but for the past 5+ years now when I see a new BMW I feel nothing, as though I'm looking at the latest Hyundai (or even less so, I was actually really impressed when I saw a new Sonata in person recently!) The X7 hasn't had a mention and I think it works quite well, however everything that sits below the 5 Series I'd say is borderline disgusting.
I go back ...even farther back...to the late 60's thru the late 80's for what solidified what made BMW design what it was...my faves were the 2002, Bavaria and the 5 series of the 70s and 80s.😍
The BMW cars from 2008 to about 2014 or so, were absolutely beautiful. What the hell are these design engineers on? They took an absolutely beautiful overall design they once had and made it look horrible.
you should have mentioned the e31 850csi, it had a completely different stance compared to the rest of the line up but in my opinion, it is the best looking bmw
Currently drive an E46 coupe and previously owned the E31 and E39. Have driven BMW’s for the last 20 years and the only car I’d consider adding to the list is the ageing E92 coupe. Wandering the showroom during a service visit (or airbag recall) is just a depressing experience. Nothing there inspires or captures my eye more than when my E46 freshly valeted drives past the window and waits for me to drive away. It looks like the only ‘proper’ BMW in the whole place. Sad days.
Indeed. When ever I take my e36 coupe in for service, it gets compliments from everyone in the service department. Occasionally the service advisor informs me that a customer would ask if it is for sale.

I'm a BMW owner and fan, and I totally agree with everything you've said and pointed. New designs and generations on the majority of models is terrible. Very sad and unfortunate.
i love it how Bembli just explains so well and puts into words some of the things i feel when i look at these cars. now i can explain to other people why i like the older bmw models more than the new ones.
I had an e36 and e38 BMW's and loved to just look at them both! Now I almost can't stand to look at a BMW without thinking........MMM a Genisis looks better!
My experience over the last few decades is that most of the BMWs I have liked most have been seen as somewhat avant garde when they were released. It’s not clear to me the current ones are any different. The real test is in a years time to see if the design has grown on us all. I suspect it will. It’s already growing on me.
You are totally right Gavin! The automotive industry are losing magic, but I bet that in the future this actual BMW's models will be loved like the old ones!
The problem is that they get you used to these new designs, so when you see a brand new m5 it looks like it is older than the other models, regardless of the design quality...
I heard somewhere that this new design language of huge grills is to please the chinese market. So… And we can see the battle between creativity and financial motives…
I can't believe, that you have put everything into words and sentences and explained every single detail that I wasn't able to even describe to myself for a long time now. I am a huge BMW fan for years, and the feeling of BMW loosing its charisma, is keeping me sad every time I see their recent models. The Strong Character was the KEY element that they used to have. Some sort of minimal "BOLD" ness that fascinated me from the times of my first acquaintance with this brand. And of course their history. So sad to see temporary bad times of such a great car brand and hope for the better days. Big thanks to your video, this is the first video that I saw on your channel and now I just can't stop watching them.
It's sad to see things turn this way. I am qn E generation owner, the last most beautiful generation ever. The F generation is a bit okay but anything after that is shockingly ugly and I will never buy. The brand and feel they worked hard to get is now making every enthusiast nauseated
I was Leasing f82 m4 white/red/manual had the car for 3 years, as my lease was coming to the end of my contract I saw the new concept for the M4 that’s when I realized that my old M4 is actually better than the new one so I went to the dealer and bought my old car. I have my 2017 M4 for 5 years now and I’m glad I made the decision to keep it.
I've always had a soft spot for the E34, and with a turbo it's like a build a beast ! Not to mention they're quite a bit lighter than most of the newer BMWs on the road today.
Yes, the E34 and E38 are the definitive BMWs to me. The E38 and e34 had masculine features, the E39 is too sensible, too soft and rounded from all angles. I am not a BMW guy, I am an Alfa guy and I like a bit crazier design (like the Italians do). I kind off like new BMWs
I agree, but I may be a little biased being a daily thrasher of an E34 540i The V8 is a cracker and while a 6 speed manual is the best non-M M-ish car model can buy, the autobox too is sublime, it is so predictable and easy to control, goes from a wafty snooze to screaming banshee mode just by how I use the go pedal, no need for buttons or menus (or disclaimers)
Old BMWs were understated yet still dominant. Modern BMWs are just Gangsta Rappers, shoving their bling in our face. It's not BMW though, times have changed. Showing off, downright bragging, is no longer immodest. it's cool.
Likewise I have invested heavily 'correcting the chassis engineering ' on my NA 1series. The boffins in government mandated fuel consumption specs which, on a compact platform means run-flats. BMW left to the 10% enthusiast market to fix this. Every bushing, mount, suspension component and more gets binned. $$$$$ later...I have got the CSL circa 2009. Last hydraulic steering model by BMW.
Perfect might be an understatement lol. I own the essentially the same car 2005 330ci ZHP 6-speed. I love my car but as a daily driver not really. My 2012 135i I wouldn't say that about either. When it comes down to it both my cars are BMW's out of warranty. Reliability is well. It's there in a sense. When I semi retired my 3 series after buying the 1 series it was costing me roughly $1500 a year in repairs and maintenance. Now I have owned my 1 series long enough that it too is out of warranty and once again I find myself in the $1500 - 2000 range in repairs in maintenance. In fact I just spent $2000 on a suspension refresh of the 1 series 2 months ago. Last year it was the cooling system. Year before that was the VCG. All on a car with under 60k. The problem isn't so much mileage as age. The 1 series is a 9 year old car now. Now drivability, yes perfect. Maintenance and reliability takes away from "the perfect daily driver" for me personally. Now if BMW made a car with the reliability of a Toyota then that would be the perfect daily driver lol. To own a BMW is to know that expensive maintenance and questionable reliability just come with the territory. I've owned Audi's and Mercedes in the past but I just keep going back to BMW. Sorry Audi and Mercedes fanboys there just isn't really anything exciting about those cars. In fact I bought a new Mercedes C Class in 2016 drove it for 6 months then traded it in for a used 1 series.
I really hope BMW is just putting out different ideas to see What we want them to do. And that they will use our feedback to create some beautifull bmws in the future
The problem with that theory is that if enough people don’t want any of them, they won’t be able to afford to make what we do want. I’m ready to replace my 2015 M4 and have nowhere to go - it’s feeling more and more like an Audi is in my future.
I am a massive BMW fan, the E46 M3, the M140I, the original M2, the E60 M5 and the 3.0 CSL are some of my favourite cars ever! I agree, the newer BMWs are mostly terribly designed and ugly, but like you stated, they are just going through a phase of trying to work out what they want to be in the future, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. What I don't understand is they must have some decent designers left (the people that do the 3 series, 5 Series/M5, and the 7 series) so why don't they just use those people on all the cars? The difference in design over the range shows they can make a great looking car, but just aren't all the time.
No one looks at my 2024 m440i convertible and says "I am so glad I don't own that" - only people looking twice and making positive comments. Got to spec it right with a good color (mine is brooklyn grey) with the shadowline package, red interior. It's a very attractive car. It can also be spec'd to look pretty ugly too. I'd avoid arctic race blue, red, black, green. White and brooklyn grey are the safest bets, shadowline is a must, black wheels to bring the design together.
You nailed it! "they don't know who they are...." Watching this happen to BMW is so sad. I am currently doing an engine swap and full rebuild of my E92 to get it somewhere near 400HP
i don't really understand why many car manufacturers started putting very large grill designs specially BMW, when automotive is switching to EV and Hybrid. decades ago it was undersatable that those old engines need big air grills for cooling but now its not the case.
It's not for cooling. It's because the manufacturers think the large grills impart brand identity when the rest of the shape looks increasingly similar among brands. All they can think to do is to blow up the grills to cartoonish proportions.
@@markruane7089 although the huge grills on a BMW dont look cartoonish to me. in fact i think its very unique in terms of style. we just got to get used to it. i wouldnt mind driving this in forza or heck. even remake the NFS most wanted BMW M3 GTR using a 2021 M3. plus the older bmw's i do respect. i prefer the newer ones cause they are far more capable then they were 30 years ago. and better handling too
I feel like 2012-2016 BMW was some of their last best designs. I LOVE the look of F30s and F32s, I LOVE the look of my F10, the X series' of the period look emaculate and symmetrical. After that, downhill, there are exceptions, but for the most part, they're starting to look meh

BMWs has become one of my least desired car brand mainly due to the design. Especially their electric cars, I'd take pretty much any other EV besides a Chevy bolt and that's not saying much.
BMW is still good. its just evolving. in this case for BMW its for function. from what i know when an electric motor gets under load. it produces ozone which not only poisonous, but also a byproduct of the electric motors power. got to get rid of it somehow and thats by allowing airflow.
somehow a Chevy bolt is a sexier car than the iX and a better car than the i3 and a better deal than both of them, even tho it's literally just a mediocre noiseless econonox. that really shows that bmw is starting to get way behind in the design department
@@penelopeboivin3191 hmmm. im not 100% sure about that. i do respect BMW and i see nothing wrong with it. its the fact we all have to get used to it wether we like it or now. as for the chevy bolt and chevy spark, i wouldnt mind my daily being a chevy spark. they are cute but they are NOT a joke when you push em.
I have an E63 that always seems to be ignored.. Admittedly, the ‘Bangle butt’ was somewhat controversial when it was released.. but, today I think the design has matured well. I just love the coupe shape! I had an E39 previous which imo is one of the best looking BMW’s ever.. especially the M5
I don't mind the kidney grill, they have to move on, but I do agree with you on the ix. No sketch was made. I actually think they should get rid of the grill all together on their electric vehicles and find a new place to identify themselves. There's simply no point of it
12:51 "Automotive design is a SCULPTURE. It's a FEELING. You need to be STRUCK by an EMOTION when you see an automotive design, because it has to have this HUMAN touch to it..." Exactly my thoughts when I saw the all-new Nissan Z. It feels nostalgic, but at the same time, it's very modern, almost screaming "turn the page! Let's start a new chapter". The exterior and interior bits, they are reminders of how Nissan used to make the Z, and how it SHOULD look like...but the twin turbo V6 is a big step forward.
The new Z looks decent, except for the grill. It looks like the designer made most of it but couldn't decide on a grill so put in a rectangle as a placeholder and went home for the day. His boss came in and saw it on his screen and decided to push it to the marketing department, assuming it was finished. By the time the designer came in to work the next day, the placeholder grill was plastered in all the ads, so they couldn't change it once it's out. They'll probably do a facelift (literally) and finish the grill.
As a layperson, I could not care less about the identity of a company. I also like the look of the new ones. And appparently buyers do to, as the sales are rising. So there's that.
Totally agree. Of the current line, I favor the 8 series. The IX looks like they ran out of random grille ideas and put an obnoxious, cheap toy sticker onto the front.
Always believed it was only me... The old 90's early 2000's design was so elegant and clean, so inspiring and balanced. They just went full on Pontiac badge design and they had to compensate for parts in that design in lego style... I really loved that old elegant design as a kid, that it was supposed to be my future car when I grow up. Then I grew up, went back to look at bmw, and well, wtf is this abomination what happened and why? In two words I expressed my frustration calling these "New" Designs as, very special. Don't know man, it's like they are actively working to sabotage themselves for some reason. One thing I know though, that's no longer a bmw. And I don't even want to start talking about the "Suspension" On the new models. That grill design looks like the teeth of a bunny.
Sad to see where they are right now. Audi lead the way in redesigning their identity 10 years ago, and every other manufacturer has followed suit. It’s why I bought a TTS. Beautiful, unapologetic sharp lines that will stand the test of time. To be fair Audi is also deviating from this in a bad way. But I’m not getting rid of my work of art.

I’ve been saying, BMW needs another Chris Bangle era, yes to explore new lines, have fun and yet be totally recognizable without forcing you to like it just as it happens today.
That's where I heard about the "Russian doll syndrome" term for a while. These days, it's getting more and more difficult to determine which is a C-Class and which was the S-Class in the model lineup of Mercedes.

@@carlosandleon There's a place for that, it's called concepts. But from a business perspective, a brand needs an identity, something that defines what they are and distinguishes them from the competition. But if the model linup is all over the place, and cars look completely different every model year, then the brand is not going to be remembered or recognized by the consumer. Let's take for example the Coke bottle, it changed a lot since the start, but always keeping its essence, and that's why is so iconic.
E90 is more beautiful. Lines are perfect combination of sportiness and elegance. Much better car as well. But mostly, people have a very superficial perception.
I own a 2020 Z4 m40i, I get compliments all the time on its style. I suggest to look at BMW designs in person because they are striking. I love the old designs too but I choose to move forward.
I think your cars just gets attention because it looks weird. And people who doesnt have a great taste at car designs thinks its beautfiul just because its flashy and weird. Mainly they notice its an expensive car and therefore must be looking good
I think one of the big problems with current BMW design is that they always look horrible on pictures and videos, but show much more depth and nuance in real life... I find it hard ro get excited about a car you "have to have seen yourself" to understand why they designed it the way they did
In relation to the 5 series, I have to agree with you that it remains one of the best looking executive cars to this day. And whilst I would prefer the bonnet length was slightly shorter; personal niggle, I pray they don't alter its appearance, though I feel they could do some restructuring to the dash. With regards to the iX Bembli, but doesn't it echo; not a designer so bare with me, some i3 DNA. And whilst keeping the headlights, couldn't BMW have incorporated an i3 inspired grill, and how would you have designed it. BMW have stated that the new large grills are necessary to hide the technology on their electric cars. If true then why hasn't Tesla adopted them. And could someone please explain the new 2 series and the length of that bonnet. There is something classical about its design; which I love, but it's wrong. And what is the issue with the interior design structure to their fleet. Each model range should have their own interior design that should never be replicated. Your choice for some of the best designs are can't fault, and I've often wondered why some of their classic concept designs were never implemented.
Another BMW design that has stood the test of time is the Z3 and M roadster. It carries the unmistakable DNA of BMW and remains a head-turner, although I may be biased since I am a 2000 M roadster owner. Here's a short video of what I think is an often overlooked design icon in the BMW family: ua-cam.com/video/5mEV9qzou2M/v-deo.html
I love the way you can put into words what the average person is feeling. We have been a BMW family for a long time and have had upwards of three of them in the garage at a time. I was never really able to articulate why I didn’t like the newer models outside of the new kidney grilles just being ugly and not looking right. I have a super-low mileage ‘03 Z4 and was going to sell that and get something new, but I’ve now been finding myself looking back in time rather than forward for a new ‘fun’ car to play on the weekends.
Hmm frankly speaking I think your talking rubbish nothing I repeat nothing ever stands still yes BMW has to keep some of its traditional style which I think they have but they have to modernize and move with the times when Audi started the nose down grille people complained as they would but they sold in droves after seeing those cars in the flesh and have continued with that nose down design till date to the extent that when the A8 first wore it it out sold the 7 series and s class if only briefly which was the main objective of the A8 people felt it looked mre solid had a commanding presence etc..you have to have variety or your product will go stale and lose market share no one goes into business to lose market share, the Chinese make up 40 percent their market if they say the want bigger grilles as a owner of a business who wants to make a profit I will deliver them all the big grilles they can consume as you would if also owned a business while not forgetting the purist as for the purist who this analysis should notice not all the cars have gone giant grilles meaning someone is still applying sense in BmW cause in case the big grilles sales slow down or arent fashionable any more it still makes it easier for them to switch back to traditional design win win diversify satisfy your customers who buy the cars while still holding on to traditional image on other models if it works keep selling giving them more if taste change switch back brilliant covering all areas satisfying all comers strategy love it.
I owned a BMW Z3 M for many years! In my opinion a beautiful designed car. Was just in Germany in the BMW museum and am very frustrated by all the new BMW models designs! Great video clip!
My all time favorite old school BMWs are the 2002 tii & the 635 csi. The lines are clean and they preformed really well. Especially the 2002 tii on Mulholland drive~ I slayed giants up there👀☺🤣
I feel like BMW was really in their element when they made very parallel line-based designs. The Bangle era was BMW experimenting with curves and rounded edges, and they weren’t necessarily bad. But I feel like the current designers took one look at the Bangle cars and thought “guess we don’t need the old design language anymore, time to throw that all out the window”.
New BMWs make the Bangle era look good. My missus has her heart set on an E63 coupe at the moment, I'm trying to find one with a straight 6. If BMW made re-issue models of the golden era cars with updated tech and interiors, they would be shocked by the sales figures relative to their regular lineup
Last year I sent them an email stating what you've just mentioned
maDeiNtHe80s and they’re never going to respond because it’s an insane idea.
@@BumpTune8462 we can only wish and dream

Fully agreed. The i3 and i8 showed us what BMW *could have been*, before they threw design out the window.
the i3 is a joke.
There's really no such thing as futuristic design. Futuristic just means crass, science-fiction inspired designs. It's juvenile and lacks class which turns of the kinds of people who buy luxury German sedans.

It’s a shame many of them were driving hard and the value of them are really going up. Beautiful car but the value now is not worth it.
The homogenization of design language of all car makers is what gets me. Used to be, you could glimpse a BMW, Honda or Buick in your peripheral vision and know what it was. Nowadays, a Lexus, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, they all look the same.

The V8 is a cracker and while a 6 speed manual is the best non-M M-ish car model can buy, the autobox too is sublime, it is so predictable and easy to control, goes from a wafty snooze to screaming banshee mode just by how I use the go pedal, no need for buttons or menus (or disclaimers)
Thank you for putting into objective words what the rest of us can only look at in disgust and confusion 😂
The E39 was a brilliant car and the best looking BMW ever. Had several 540 M sports and M5…..👍
Old BMWs were understated yet still dominant. Modern BMWs are just Gangsta Rappers, shoving their bling in our face.
It's not BMW though, times have changed. Showing off, downright bragging, is no longer immodest. it's cool.
The E39 M5 facelift is the one of the most beautiful cars ever made, in terms of exterior and interrior, in my opinion. I'm in love with my 99' 528i.
I’ll stay with my 2006 E46 330 cic with ZHP and proper 6-speed manual transmission. A perfect daily driver.
@@douglasjames4905 Hydraulic steering from BMW was (is) a pleasure.
They're just too polite to tell you to your face that your car looks like a cat angry about having just sucked on a lemon.

The same situation happened with the Jaguar XJ. For many years it was like a 4-door Porsche 911 (shape without radical changes), then suddenly they changed the design of the whole car and sales collapsed. 🤷🏻♂️
not exactly true. jaguar is still going strong today. sometimes the new things we try are either a success or a flop
@@jackmagnium6115 yes, that's ture but you can check sales figure. They sold less XJ x351 than x350/x358 (I think because x351 looks like Infiniti or Lexus product not like real jaaaaag 😎) or sold less XE's than x-type's (even Alfa Romeo sold more giullia's). Only XF's beat s-type's. 🤷🏻♂️
@@DriverAnonim still the point is they tried something and it didnt work in their favor. like i said before. some thing s either are a success or a flop
@@jackmagnium6115 Just as in the history of this brand they often had financial problems. They should know that they cannot change a formula that works. Take a look at BMW as in this video. In the past everyone's dream, today it's just a bag full off shit that can't go back to proven methods because they screwed up too much... 🤷🏻♂️ (Sorry if I write something wrong. I'm Polish and I better speak english than write)
@@DriverAnonim thats the problem of not changing anything. it gets old like really old and boring. take the camaro for example. its production ends in 2023. following the same formula as it has been for 50+ years. its the fact its soold it needs replacement
2021 was a record sales year for BMW. Can’t argue with that.
they just don’t care about your opinion, because all these details will be appreciated only by people with taste, and there are very few of them. Artificial intelligence will draw clumsy designs, but people en masse will not notice the substitution and will continue to buy.
Agree , that’s why I kept my e46 manual , and re build entire car like new
I’ve been saying, BMW needs another Chris Bangle era, yes to explore new lines, have fun and yet be totally recognizable without forcing you to like it just as it happens today.
They do
like i always say. deal with it kid
Yeah but now it’s worse
Actually, I prefer if manufacturers have diffedent styling languages for different models.
Making all the cars look the same is a mistake
They can be different from each other, but they still need to have a similar design language. That's how you build a brand's identity.
@@adrielklein189 Fuck the brand identity, they gotta unleash their creativity
That's where I heard about the "Russian doll syndrome" term for a while. These days, it's getting more and more difficult to determine which is a C-Class and which was the S-Class in the model lineup of Mercedes.
@@RDSyafriyar I think having a cheaper model look like the premium offering just cheapens then premium product.
I think Hyundai is making a step in the right direction with differentiating their models while still being recognizable as the brand.
Once again, a great analysis.
In my humble opinion, the E46 is the last nice BMW...
The f line bmw were also good too
E92
E90 is more beautiful.
Lines are perfect combination of sportiness and elegance.
Much better car as well.
But mostly, people have a very superficial perception.
@@rayhanrizvi334yeah those too
@@rayhanrizvi334I still love the current 3 and 5s esp the 8 series those looks nice
Being an old guy I like the E34 and earlier 5 Series cars. I had an E34 Sport for for over 10 years and liked it.
It’s great that you’ve also put the preLCI G11 7 Series on the video. It’s an absolutely great design!
If it wasn't for this grills today's BMW would be the best cars in my opinion
Did you even listen
The grills are by far not the biggest problem with their design
@@MarphyW thats just my opinion besides the video
he's holding a pen so he MUST know what he's talking about
could not agree more with you! the 5-series is the nice design to build from. the rest is just garbage!
I'm still very happy with my BMW 5 Series F11. Love the design and the interior.
The oringinal E39 face is clasic. It is not going to get any better .
Mainly they notice its an expensive car and therefore must be looking good
All of the z4s (old and new) are design masterpieces.
Genesis is slapping BMW in looks. 🤦🏽♂️😂
And I thought the worst was over when Chris Bangle left... Now I'm actually missing him ...
I have a 2001 z3. One of the trues, most shapely and raw roadsters ever made. Imo the 850csi is the absolute peak of automotive design though
I like that your cat photo bombed your video. A star in the making.
I really disliked the iX when I saw its design in videos. But after seeing some of them in real life the design really grew on me.
M Coupe is 100% awesome
I love the way you can put into words what the average person is feeling. We have been a BMW family for a long time and have had upwards of three of them in the garage at a time.
I was never really able to articulate why I didn’t like the newer models outside of the new kidney grilles just being ugly and not looking right.
I have a super-low mileage ‘03 Z4 and was going to sell that and get something new, but I’ve now been finding myself looking back in time rather than forward for a new ‘fun’ car to play on the weekends.
There’s a reason why the car i’m currently saving for is the E39 M5, one of the greatest designs they’ve ever had, along with everything else inside
I feel BMW should look to Genesis in how to design a lineup
Probably because Genesis' were designed by a german lol
@@KennyThaSharp exactly…
Like Bembli said: 'this is product design, purely economical without soul and as designers we are allowed to regret that.'
Sales going up!!!🎉❤
That's what going on with BMW!
I owned a BMW Z3 M for many years! In my opinion a beautiful designed car. Was just in Germany in the BMW museum and am very frustrated by all the new BMW models designs! Great video clip!
I'm in love with my summer toy, a 2001 740il in silver. So beautifull.
Love my E28 M5 with its beautiful looks and rawness ..
My all time favorite old school BMWs are the 2002 tii & the 635 csi. The lines are clean and they preformed really well. Especially the 2002 tii on Mulholland drive~ I slayed giants up there👀☺🤣
The CSI is pure sex, though I prefer the e24
I am a proud owner of an E46. Will never sell her. Best car, ever.
Me too i have E46 2002 facelift 330i touring. Lov it
Me and you the same
hehe true that about lights. there was a time when light elements on 3, 5 and 7 series was not just similar but interchangeable with each other
I feel like BMW was really in their element when they made very parallel line-based designs.
I fear it will end in constant fighting over the keys
It was the start of the downfall of styling though, the look front on is not my favourite, but the rear end looks absolutely gorgeous.
In case you're reading this my dear, I'm talking about the car not you 😅
