I took myself off Metformin and began taking Berberine exactly one year ago. I combined that with a keto diet, the Wim Hof Method, OMAD, and acupressure techniques. My waistline has gone from 52 inches down to 44 inches. I had no idea about the nootropic benefits. That's good news. Thanks.
I’m on dihydroberberine 250mg which I’m told is 5 times more absorbable than berberine. I also take silymarin. I will start taking it with coconut oil. Thanks for your information.
Berberine came to my Attention in ‘21 after diagnosed in ‘20 w Type ll diabetes. It’s a bit pricey, sadly. In my Mid 60’s I had diarrhea, low energy, gained 25lbs and just didn’t feel my active self. That’s All reversed now. 2-3 mile fast walks daily, MSM keeps my joints, ligaments good, ended my Rotator Cuff injury. 🎉 Dihydroberberine 15 minutes before Carb intake. And I use Milk Thistle. Cheers. I feel like an herb/nootropics pharmacy.
Can’t thank you enough for enlightening us man! You sir along very very few others have really helped me understand how the brain and its receptors function and made me somewhat capable of tweaking certain areas which really made a huge difference on me. God bless you!🌹
Greetings David, thank you so for this very valuable information. I am taking BerBerine now and hoping for the very best. I have also purchased Head First. What a wealth of knowledge, you’re the best. Thanks again for everything.
I'm really injoying berberine for the weightloss effect I was 104 kilos now at 90kg can allso feel lift in mood mine has Ceylon cinnamon in it .definitely can fast with it was never a suger sweet lover more savoury lover. Thank you for the update really injoy your utube videos.
I have tinnitus from either theJ and J vaccine , long covid and or chronic Lyme I have been using Berberine (250mg ) before dinner and have been improving I did find information about Berberine treating chronic Lyme Perhaps because it’s an antibiotic I’m finding that my blood sugar does not spike as much upon waking also
Thank you very much for this update. Very interesting that Berberine is an MAO inhibitor, which is needed to help with toxoplasma gondii, plus it has the ability to remove other parasites by breaking up biofilm.
Thank you, this is the first I've heard of the additional benefits of berberine in relation to dopamine and serotonin. I have rather extreme ADHD and was wondering if this should be stacked with any other supplement to boost dopamine and if so, are you able to recommend something in particular? Great information, thank you.
Fascinating information. I’m T2 diabetic, is it safe to take this whilst fasting? I’m currently taking a capsule of Berberine 500mg +Turmeric+Black pepper once a day.Thank you.
You said that people with heart problems should ot take Berberin. However i see tons of studies that say that it helps with heart problems, and is as efficient for lessening arrhythmia(especially combined with C & D vitamin, along with magnesium), also it greatly reduces atrial fibrillation, and is as good or better than the best known drug for it(which has nasty side effects). Very good results on treating congestive heart failure, and this has been verified in a lot of studied. In general if somoene has these heart problems its good to take Berberin, not something you should avoid.
Hi David, what are your thoughts on using berberine as a preworkout? The increase in catacholamines would be nice, but I hear it reduces some of the beneficial adaptations of exercise - particularly increases in VO2 max. I'm not sure if Metformin does this and berberine doesn't. I don't have any issues like diabetes, I'm just in it for the stimulation effects. Thanks for all you do! I learn a lot from you.
Jacob, I don't think you would get any special benefit for your workout from using Berberine. There are other better options as a pre-workout supplement.
Thank you so much for finding all this info. 500mg 3 times a day is for concentrated berberine. If we use oregon grape root or other whole herb with berberine, how much would suggested doese would be?
Berberine is an alkaloid extracted from plants. It is not 'concentrated'. But if you wanted to get your Berberine by using Indian Barberry (tree turmeric) or Oregon Grape you'd need to send it to the lab and have it tested to know how much Berberine you were getting. And that amount would vary depending on where it is grown, how it is harvested, the time of year it is harvested and several other factors the are needed to produce this alkaloid in each plant.
Hello David, first, want to say that I've been immensely educated regarding nootropics as a result of your videos. What I'd like to know is can Berberine hcl and reduced Glutathione be taken together? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Joe, dihydroberberine is an extended release form of Berberine which is supposed to make it more bioavailable. Clinical studies from the looks of it don't back that claim up.
Since berberine stops the breakdown of choline should this be cycled, like huperzine a? If I was using this just for fat loss would you recommend the same dose of 500mg x3?
Berberine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor but NOT on the same level as Huperzine-A. It has a short half life which is why you need to use 500 mg 3-times per day to get its full benefit. Same dosage for whatever you are using Berberine for.
I don’t have diabetes or pre-diabetes. I was interested in berberine for weight loss and some of the other benefits. Is it ok to take it everyday longterm? Does it need to be cycled? Thank you.
Berberine is safe to use long-term for pre-diabetes just like Metformin. I like taking it with Milk Thistle extract because it can be hard on your liver if used long-term. Milk Thistle helps negate those effects,
I just started it today. I got hot and itchy very quick but it passed. I also took the full dose and a Whole Foods energy shot. So I don't know which cause the itchy hotness. If you take an SSRI like Lexapro ok?
Kym, chances are high that it was the energy shot that caused that. Berberine will lower blood sugar and blood pressure however. But it is not contraindicated with SSRIs.
Plants containing Berberine have been used in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. They did not have the technology that we have today to extract individual compounds from these plants. But they were wise enough to know and use the plants that contained the highest amount fo berberine.
You need to use 500 mg Berberine morning, noon, and then again late afternoon to get its full benefits. As for your cats, you'll need to check with your vet.
Jimmy, Berberine is an alkaloid extracted from plants such as Indian Barberry (tree turmeric), Oregon Grape and goldenseal. If it's one of those plants made into a tea you will not get the same benefit as you would from a Berberine supplement extracted from those plants.
I cannot include them here on UA-cam because UA-cam only allows me so much space for notes. But every video review of a supplement includes a link to my website in the notes section. Those reviews on my website contain dozens of clickable links to peer-reviewed clinical studies for each supplement.
Deb, Berberine inhibits cytochromes P450 (CYP3A4, CYP2D6 and 2C9) in your liver. So find out if the drug uses any of those to metabolize that drug. Because it can cause a substantial increase in the bioavailability of certain drugs and nootropics. Which can be dangerous.
Hello David, may I know if you are interested in trying PEMF(Pulsed electromagnetic field) devices? DHA is highly synergistic with frequencies like PEMF.
Not sure but likely being overweight and eating the wrong foods contributed to it. I'm sure there is a genetic component involved as well. But using Berberine 500 mg 3-times per day soon normalized everything. And my labs (including yesterday) are normal and within range.

Berberine is a great supplement.

Ally, you could but far better options include Saffron and Maritime Pine Bark Extract. I have videos on this channel for both.
Excellent nootropic. I like ancient bliss.
Fascinating information. I’m T2 diabetic, is it safe to take this whilst fasting? I’m currently taking a capsule of Berberine 500mg +Turmeric+Black pepper once a day.Thank you.
Paul, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for yet another very informative video.
Thanks!

Great stuff as usual, I only eat twice a day as I do Intermittent fasting. How can I take 3 capsules per day? Can I take it without a meal?
Youssef, Berberine is water soluble so it doesn't matter if you use it with a meal or on its own.
Hello David, first, want to say that I've been immensely educated regarding nootropics as a result of your videos. What I'd like to know is can Berberine hcl and reduced Glutathione be taken together? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Lynn, as long as they both work for you they can safely be used together.
Does it help in eliminating bad bacteria from the gut?
It helps keep Candida under control.
What about dihydroberberine?
Joe, dihydroberberine is an extended release form of Berberine which is supposed to make it more bioavailable. Clinical studies from the looks of it don't back that claim up.

Is Berberine good for fatty liver disease
Yes, according to this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9459907/
As always another great video- thank you.
Thank you Steve. Much appreciated.
But berberine increases liver enzymes. I want to take it but have NAFLD and overweight. What shall I do? My doc has no clue about it.
Berberine does NOT increase liver enzymes. Please read my full review here including the Side Effects section: nootropicsexpert.com/berberine/

Did they use berberine hcl for thousands of years surly it was the bark or fruit?
Plants containing Berberine have been used in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. They did not have the technology that we have today to extract individual compounds from these plants. But they were wise enough to know and use the plants that contained the highest amount fo berberine.
Thank you Dave
Thank you John!

Thank you Eric. I appreciate the encouragement.
I got this stuff growing in my front yard. Can I us it as a tea?
Jimmy, Berberine is an alkaloid extracted from plants such as Indian Barberry (tree turmeric), Oregon Grape and goldenseal. If it's one of those plants made into a tea you will not get the same benefit as you would from a Berberine supplement extracted from those plants.
As usual a great video.
Thanks!
Do you take it on an empty stomach?
Cindy, Berberine is water soluble so you can take it with or without food.
What kind of Milk Thistle is good to take with Berberine
This is the one I use: geni.us/Vfo1C
Would yu provide searchable references for the studies cited?

Is it safe to take if I am already taking an MAO-B inhibitor (Rasagiline)?
Deb, Berberine inhibits cytochromes P450 (CYP3A4, CYP2D6 and 2C9) in your liver. So find out if the drug uses any of those to metabolize that drug. Because it can cause a substantial increase in the bioavailability of certain drugs and nootropics. Which can be dangerous.
How do researchers evaluate the mood of mice? 🤷🏻♂️

Nice explanation
Thank you Sehrish!
What doesn’t it do?
Dain, I can think of a few things it cannot do. But go back and listen to the section called "Berberine benefits" for its biggest benefits.
did you really mean a whole tablespoon of coconut oil rather than teaspoon please?
yes, I really mean a tablespoon of unrefined coconut oil which is a nootropic on its own.
I think I’ll give it a miss🙁
James, Berberine is not for everyone. Just like any of the other supplements I review (and use). Some work and some don't for each person.
Hello David, may I know if you are interested in trying PEMF(Pulsed electromagnetic field) devices? DHA is highly synergistic with frequencies like PEMF.
If you have an affiliate program I am definitely interested in trying it. Pls. send me an email [david (at) nootropicsexpert.com]
Why were you insulin resistant?
Diet overweight and sedentary
Not sure but likely being overweight and eating the wrong foods contributed to it. I'm sure there is a genetic component involved as well.
But using Berberine 500 mg 3-times per day soon normalized everything. And my labs (including yesterday) are normal and within range.
wtf u saying about using milk thistle and berberine?
it's unclear
Dan, go back and listen to that section of the video again. Or read the original transcript.
