I am a retired scientist, I have been taking melatonin for around thirty five years. It has slowed down my rate of aging so much that at a recent visit to my doctor the secretary assumed I had taken a younger person's identity and accused me of being a criminal.
A note to both of you. I am a relatively healthy 91 yr old male. I started taking Melatonin supliments at about age 45. I have taken 1/2 miligram daily simply because it is not possible to get 300 Microgram tablets which is what the body might generate itself during sleep. I am absolutely convinced that this regime of Melatonin has contributed to my continued good health.
I bought 10 mg tabs and will grind them up into a fine powder and weigh it to get down to about .3 mg because like Dr P. it has me waking up at 3 am as a 70 yr old. Cherries have it but I dont eat them often.
I am 78 and have taken it for 30 years for poor sleep with fibromyalgia. I was told by a so called specialist I was being silly to take it. I ignored her. She was the silly one. I still have health issues but Melatonin certainly helps.
I have been taking melatonin for 25 years. I started with 3mg, after a few years 5mg, then 10mg and now, at 67, I'm taking 30mg. At this age, the body's own melatonin production is only minimal. Apart from a broken arm and an inflamed appendix, I have never been ill since then. By the way, I haven't eaten any vegetables for a year. 80% carnivore and some fruit.
@@whitewolf6730 maybe you need to plan your day differently. Get yourself ready for bed and take the melatonin sitting in bed already. 30 minutes after taking it you will be tired enough to fall asleep. If you take the melatonin during the day and don't sleep after taking it this is just a waste.
I'm taking 300 mg per day. I was at 1000 mg per day but can't afford that high dose, did that for a month. Breast and lymph cancer almost gone, using that and fenbendazole, little ivermectin and other supplements that mess with cancers pathways. It's helping me get off benzos', too. Just amazing. For a year and a half been fumbling my way through metabolic treatments as doctors risk losing license if they help you. They can only Cut, Poison and Burn cancer according to AMA. Corrupt! Luckily I found the way to kill cancer before it's killed me --but took almost a year! lolol
I've been taking 3mg for 30 years. A few years ago a sleep expert on Joe Rogan said Melatonin has no affect on sleep so I stopped taking it. Three weeks later I had trouble sleeping so I started taking it again and I sleep great.
My husband suffers from severe insomnia,I gave him few of my pills of melatonin and he was sleeping great Just taking one pill 2 hours before going to sleep Finally I had persuaded him, he bought the bottle of it for him self He feels refreshed, not giving him drowsiness like some other sleeping pills 🫰😴💐
As a four times cancer survivor I am guarded when it comes to taking melatonin. I became aware that it actually sped up my cancer process, that particular cancer was receptor negative. I feel Melatonin has its place in lowering body inflammation, pain and in aiding sleep quality, but it aided my cancer cells to survive if not become more resilient, I believe the right dosage may be more important than we think, and should be calculated based on individual differences in metabolism and other biological data and health conditions past and present. Anyone with cancer should also be guarded on taking MSN, also quite beneficial, but if you have or have had cancer it can aid cancer progression/spread or re-ignition of a sneaky little dormant cell, just waiting in the wings for the right catalyst. People need to do their own research and take their individual differences into account before taking something they know little about. Monitor yourself closely when taking something, then pay close attention to what your body is telling you.
Thank you for sharing your story with us. It will definitely help some of us 🙏🏼❤️ if you don’t mind me asking, why do you think that melatonin was what sped up your cancer? What do you think it’s in it to do that?
I just learned about autophagy. If interested in how that can help you with those bad cells, then please look it up. I first heard about it from Dr. Boz.
@kirra- hi. Registered Nurse here. 👋🏽 please look up a man named Joe tippin. He had 5 cancers and failed traditional treatments. He posted on fakebook and a veterinarian contacted him saying he was cured of all 5 cancers by taking fenbendazole- an antiparasitic medication!!! Please look this up. Big p HARM a won’t allow this information!!!
Very, very strange. It sounds like you just want to instill fear of cancer in people in relation to melatonin. But in fact, an increasing number of studies have described the anticancer effects of melatonin! Search in Google: "melatonin and cancer" and you will be surprised. Can you cite any studies, articles, or anything that supports your claims? What is your real agenda here?
I work in a health food store, and my coworker had listened to a study that talked about melatonin being taken during the day. I have never like the effects of melatonin as it makes me groggy the next day. So my coworkers and I took it around 1 o'clock in the afternoon. We work in an office with no windows. We noticed an elevation in mood, calm and relaxed during stressful issues going on, plus the best sleep we had experienced in a long time.
I am a retired canadian citizen in my 70s and enjoying a very active and healthy life. I have been taking Melatonin since decades basically while traveling to handle jet leg but since last over a decade i take Melatonin 3mg or 5 mg daily at night and i am feeling perfect as far as my health and fitness is concerned. You guys made my day as lot of people including my kids were apposing this. Thanks and regards.
Melatonin can also take your aging hair from white to back to the natural color that it was when you were younger. It would take about 6 to 9 months but if you take it without stopping it will help
Melatonin is a miracle. My mum suffered dementia with anxiety with sleeplessness and this was the only thing that helped her sleep. A few years ago it was very cheap. Now the pharma business have realised that is a gold mine and raised the price unfortunately.
I had lifetime severe migrains that was destroying my quality of life and melatonin turned my life around. The sinus inflammation that woke me up at 4am almost every morning with a migraine slowly went away since 2017 after starting the supplement. I don't have them anymore, but if I do miss taking at least 5mg at night I will start to get some of that pressure coming back. I found an old UA-cam video from2012 tmj doctor talk about this taking the inflammation off the nerve and it caught my interest. Life changer for me for sure.
I've been using melatonin supplements for a while, but recently I stumbled upon the benefits of tart cherry extract, and it's been a game-changer for me! What's fascinating is that tart cherries naturally contain melatonin, and incorporating them into my routine has had a noticeable impact on my sleep. 🍒 I love that it's a natural source. For those who, like me, are always on the lookout for more holistic approaches, tart cherry extract is worth considering. Plus, it's not just about melatonin - the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties in tart cherries make it a double win for overall well-being!
Been taking Melatonin since I was in my mid 30's, I'm now 66. I started out with the 3mg every night, it was a life saver for me because it would take me 2 hrs every night to fall asleep I would wake up around 2 am ( went to bed at around 10 or 11pm ) then it would be another 2 hrs or so until I finally would fall asleep again and it ALWAYS turned out that I would fall asleep and it seemed like right after I would fall asleep the alarm would go off. This happened every night & morning, if not for Melatonin I really have no idea what would have happened to me. But now I'm up to 20 to 30 mg's a night ( for the last 5 yrs ) plus an Ambient, I really have not experienced any side effects that I have read about. I have been tested for that sleep thing when you stop breathing, I don't stop breathing at night. At any rate I will be coming off that stuff and see what happens. If it has any effects on aging and your Mitochondria I don't feel it or see it in my physicals and labs.
My dog had bald spots on his sides from a vitamin D deficiency. He is an English bulldog who can't cool himself well and we live in a hot climate in southeast Louisiana so he doesn't get much sun most of the year. I have been giving him a couple of mg of melatonin at night and his bald spots are no longer there. I have been giving it to him for the last few years and it has worked great
I had a Bichon that always got that hair loss in the winter. I live up north where she didn't get a lot of sun from December through March. It's called "idiopathic flank alopecia". Common in Bulldogs. When she would spend more time outside in the sunlight in the spring the hair would grow back. She didn't start up with the hair loss until she was close to ten years old. I didn't supplement her with anything as it didn't seem to bother her. It just looked weird, so I'd clip her down short and put a sweater on her.
I've been using melatonin for 20 years after following and still study the research by Prof Russel J Reiter, world renowned melatonin investigator and others. I started with 5 mg daily and gradually upped it over the years to 100mg and occasionally 1000mg. Melatonin is an amazing ancient molecule. It's key to understand that blue wavelength at night shuts down endogenous melatonin within 1.5 seconds. It is important to block blue light at night within 1 to 2 hours of bedtime from sources such as computers, cell phones, white light, and streetlights.
Review the work of Dr David Blask of Tulane. His research shows how melatonin can temporarily change a cancer cells into a normal phenotype, thus slowing the rate of cancer growth dramatically, sometimes even shrinking it's size.
I’ve taking melatonin 20 mg every night. I didn’t know about anti aging benefits but it really help me sleep better for sure! Great information you shared. I know I’m unable to sleep without taking it but I don’t feel bad anymore. Thanks!
I take three 10mg pills for occasional muscle cramps in my legs, usually do to extensive yard work. 3.5 minutes later, the cramps are gone. It's amazing.
I've been taking melatonin since 1995 and I'm 68 years old I gave up alcohol and marijuana. I never got Covid and haven't been sick . Only gone to a dentist😂
I have been using over a gram of pure melatonin topically with dmso for months. I have used up to 3.5 grams without any major side effects. Doses of 2-3 grams were as effective for me as otc cold/flu medications for dealing with symptoms. Melatonin exerts strong effect on thymus. I am aware doses of up to 6 grams being used via IV in conjunction with chemo. Also it's infrared light that induces higher natural production of melatonin. Sunlight is a stimulator of melatonin production along with other forms of light that have infrared spectrum in it like incandescent bulbs, bonfire, candle light, etc.
I’ve been taking melatonin for about 10 years ,every night at the same time (5mg) and I can tell my immune system is very strong,I sleep good and I don’t have any side effect all these years . I’m 38 years old now
So much value from Deanna Minich, MS, PhD, CNS, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (IFMCP). Another scientist recommended taking 8-10 mg at night - so I have been taking mel for one year since, without downside.
I hope that you can interview Russel J. Reiter who has his name attached to over a thousand melatonin research papers and has written a textbook on melatonin. I take 60 to a 120 mg(not mcg) in divided doses daily, then cycle off it for awhile. I am 70 and melatonin at this dose enhances sleep quality - but not duration. The most profound effect is from the 30 mg I take when I awaken in the morning which provides a noticeable sense of enhanced well being which puzzles people who think of melatonin as a sleep hormone...but is consistent with Reiter's research showing that 95% of the melatonin in the body is produced in the mitochondria in the daytime in response to infrared light stimulation.
Interesting. I will look into Russel J Reuter’s work. Thank you. I’m amazed that you can take such high doses. Can you recommend your source of melatonin? Do you know where to purchase phyto melatonin?
@@mal5669 I think at my dosage, synthetic sublingual is the most cost effective way to go.I have a cancer client taking 210 mg daily in divided doses and Reiter has experimented with gram amounts on himself with no side effects. An LD 50 (lethal dose) has never been found for melatonin in animal testing.
I very much respect Dr. Reiter's research on melatonin, thank you for the mention. I included some of it in the paper we wrote. He has truly contributed much to the research, as has Dr. Paolo Lissoni, who did extensive work on cancer over the past three decades.
@@foodandspirit Baffled that Reiter's research and ideas get so little traction in the health space (positive OR negative).Would say the same for Dr Khavinson and his research and opinions on bioregulator peptides (2 to 4 amino acids long).
Superb presentation. The precision of thought and its articulate expression, the organic cross-referencing among multiple nodes of knowledge, the honesty-of-intellect, the joy of discovery(!), all combine into true human progress, for each and all of us, MANKIND! I would dare say there is a spiritual component at work here as well. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind comments. Speaking of a spiritual component, you may find this study of interest as it relates to melatonin: Messina G, Lissoni P, Marchiori P, Bartolacelli E, Brivio F, Magotti L. Vit.D is light sensor ,melatonin is dark sensor.Melatonin scavenge 10 RO ,plant melatonin is more effective by inhibiting cox 2 inhibitors so anti inflammatory, phytomelatonin is 360 more effective than synthetic melatonin which is 99 percent in the market as supplements.
Thanks Dr.for the wonderful information on melatonin,I have been taking it since last one year,& started sleeping well,& also I look younger for my age....
Walking upva couple if times during your night sleep is natural. It's how long you stay aware during those moments that's concerning. I findxit helps notvto make so much out if it as ut amplifiés any négatives you may be suffering. What Ivso, is...get up tonl have a pee, do a sensory check of my environment, and or resnuggle. All that aside, I found this made a lot of sense. Fascinating. Everything works as part of a complexité of other things. I did try some last night and it was helpful. Intermittent use as needed was my plan. Vitamins D in the morning and melitonin and night seems quite logcal to me. Thank you.
Melatonin has helped me get off Trazadone , I even will take it during the day if feeling anxious. I take 10-20 mg a day, have taken as much as 40mg. I am also healing from Lyme/MS and it seems to help with inflammation as well. I also take high doses of Vit D.
Wonderful discussion, thank you. At about 40 minutes, the discussion went to watching TV or working on a computer at night. So most computers now have a "night mode" which eliminates blue light. I also read before going to sleep and I use a hygge light (pronounced hoo ga) which is a pleasant yellow/orange light.
Alot of comments about where to buy plant melatonin….Dr Hyman recommended one about a year ago which I’ve been taking called ‘Herbatonin’ the brand is Symphony Natural Health. It has alfalfa in it as well which I’m allergic to but I take it anyway because it’s the only plant version that I’ve heard recommended by a trusted doctor and it’s probably a small amount. If anyone has tried another brand do tell!
Melatonin occurs naturally in plants, like Lavender buds and the tips of Mulberry leaves, about 3/4's " of the tip I use. I think Melatonin is considered to be one of the 7 Sirtuins.
Started reading on this and learned. Melatonin may lower blood pressure at night. But it may increase blood pressure if you are on certain blood pressure meds. I don't think these two covered this but it might be something you ask your DR about.
Years ago I read in the book "Melatonin Miracle" that in rat studies, they lived 1/3 longer on melatonin, so I decided to try it on our new Golden Retriever. The breed has an average lifespan of 10-12 years. Our girl is now 15 and going strong in spite of miraculously surviving a very serious accident a couple of years ago. All of her contemporary goldens that we knew passed away years ago. So the rat data is consistent with her results. Naturally my wife and I are on it too.
@@michaelwirth4217 I thought I answered this, but don't see it, so once again, until recently 1mg with dinner, now 3mg. Several years ago after a couple of mast cell tumors, we switched her to a keto human food anti-cancer diet of ground beef and leafy green vegetables, and she hasn't had a recurrence.
I was able to drink a lot of coffee and still fall asleep until I got to be over 30. I couldn’t drink it when I was pregnant at 35 years old. I had to go off it completely ten years later. I developed sleep problems after 65 years old and have to use melatonin producing foods such as pumpkin seed flour and sleep patches to help me sleep.
I am 68 and have taken Melatonin, Vitamin D³ and Biotean for more than 45 years now. I also take, over the last 5 years now, Zinc once a week. Why? I have found I always feel better, more relaxed. Today, I have better skin, nails and hair than most my age. My bones and joints are strong. I have Dietetic Type II issues. I have taken Metformin for probably the last 30 years. I personally think Melatonin also contributes to better cognitively. I feel sharper than most older folks my age orbolder, that I have met. Most people think I'm in my 50s. So, I contribute that to my regiment. As far as Covid, I refused to that that vaccine. I'm apposed to m-RNA manipulation as a way to attack a virus. The new idea of now putting m-RNA vaccines in food stock and plants has made me angry because it removes the choice from individuals on what they choose to put in their bodies.
As with vitamin C, I take melatonin intermittently, exactly because not wanting to blunt the cell receptors. When I feel more is needed, I simply up the dose. I don't take it daily.
I have HBP and have been on medication for it for a few years. Recently my medication stopped working to control my blood pressure, and I would get readings as high as 195/116 even though taking the medication which controlled it for years. I am going through perimenopause though and noticed a strange thing about my BP the Diastolic pressure is staying high (87 - 116) even though the Systolic pressure is in normal range (120 - 140) I connected it to my hormonal changes, did a bit of research on the hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal glands and hormone regurgitation, and I realized that the high cortisol levels I was experiencing were probably because my body wasn't producing melatonin the way it should, so the cortisol levels never went down. This contributed to high blood sugar levels as well as excessive weight gain, and not only has my weight and blood sugar dropped, and sleep improved, but my diastolic blood pressure levels have been dropping into the 70s now and hoovering in the 80s. I'm still on the HBP meds, but am hoping to be able to get myself off of them in the near future.
My doctor said he has tons of patients reporting that their beta blockers and ACE inhibitors stopped working for them and he had to increase dosages after they had been stable. My Propanolol stopped working and I switched to metoprolol and then Bistolic. There could possibly be problems with the supplier and manufacturing practices is my guess.
My dad has always had high blood pressure since his 20s. I've been high for about 20 years but refused to take meds. Recently because of chronic back pain I started taking some supplements to include Vit D and my blood pressure came down from around 138/98 down to 106/72.
In dealing with my long haul COVID (Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS CoV-2 Infection) my research has shown that the virus attacks the mitochondria and endothelial. Dosing with melatonin daily helps reset the sleep cycle that's disturbed by COVID (covidsomnia).
I took 10 mgs in early evening when I had covid but my sleep was still terrible with sore throat pain and coughing. Oh.....and living with five cats. Sleeping with nocturnal pets is stupid of me. Now I nap 1-3 pm a lot. I have sleep filth VS hygeine!
My understanding is that melatonin inhibits estrogen synthesis so I always avoided it. I’m looking forward to listening to see if that information is outdated and incorrect. Thanks for the video on a women’s health topic!
Great question. I have not seen any data on that particular interaction. I saw this study about the reverse situation (beta-estradiol inhibiting melatonin synthesis, done in sheep cells): pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34971752/.
Ps to my comment below :- Might it not be better to use a little bit of infra red to stimuiate our own melantoin ? It's simpler , more straightforward, no messing with dosage, no contamination or side effects as with buying supplements etc & a small lightbulb for use on face for example, would be cheap and easy and a pleasant way of getting your dose daily
I just watched a brilliant discussion on this topic by Dr. Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist from Stanford University . He discussed how melatonin seriously disrupts your brain chemistry, and adversely affects your overall physiology. He strongly advises against taking it. Do your own research, and don’t believe everything on the internet.
Melatonin screwed me up! BIG TIME! Had trouble falling asleep and melatonin to the rescue but after a few years now I am tired all the time and feel fatigued all the time and it only happened after taking melatoinin for several years, now I feel like i've OD'd on melatonin all the time even tho I stopped taking it long ago!
You can get it back. Look up things that create serotonin and try those things and having good gut health is key to producing serotonin which turns into melatonin. I know exercise helps. And sunshine helps too.
Good presentation. I would have liked more discussion re melatonin and cortisol. I know it was touched upon, but melatonin has the ability to level out cortisol. Also, there has been some discussion around melatonin being a natural remedy for the treatment of anxiety and depression. Just my thoughts...
I was told melatonin is not really good idea to ingest rather to encourage the body to make its own by morning light exposure, evening light shutoff, thiamine, red light therapy if you can afford it, and strenuous exercise. Unless of course you can't exercise.
Dr Russell Rieter is the “godfather” of melatonin research. He has actually conducted the studies that has been cited over 100,000 times I would look at his work and listen to his interviews then go from there if I can in that big of a hurry bud.
@@janics6141 first off what is your point and secondly, did you read every paper and publication to verify that? The results were still the results. He is alive and mentally sharp late into his 80s.
I started taking melatonin at 10mg a night, worked up to 20 mg and did so for a week. At this point I increased my intake to 30 mg a night. At this level I was noticing an increase incidence of bruising/bleeding under the skin after bumping into or brushing against a hard surface. One other side effect I experienced after a scratch or cut was more bleeding than normal (delayed coagulation).
What about the fact that the pineal gland is calcified in most adults and trace amounts of melatonin, if any, is produced by the gland? I wonder how the body is coping with this situation.
Only 5% of the body's melatonin is produced in the pineal gland. 95% of endogenous melatonin is produced by the mitochondria. Regardless, the body produces less and less with age. Either way, supplementation can be beneficial.
It’s not clear how one could find phytomelatonin that’s not artificially synthesized. Given that most melatonin products on the market are not optimal, I’m left with the question: “Should one take synthetic melatonin if optimal phytomelatonin formulations are not available?”
I find that daylight and sunshine as Vitamin D works better than a pill. However rainy days this month interrupt my sunshine. I have taken melatonin in the past and slept better but that was short lived for some reason maybe because i dont sleep in a dark room as have a salt lamp on. Might interfere with my circadian rhythm. So am interested in the podcast to learn more. Thank you for this information.
Ya might be a good effect for rainy or cloudy days. I think I need to find right probiotics to heal my gut and make more naturally. But melatonin is great antioxidant power so might not be a bad thing temporarily
I have a male Miniature Pinscher who has been on 6mg daily of Melatonin for treatment of hair loss of unknown origin...his veterinarian recommended it & as long as he stays on it Rusty's coat stays healthy & what it should be for a Miniature Pinscher...I only stopped the Melatonin once for about 4 months....his hair started disappearing & becoming thin...I'll not stop the Melatonin again. He has been on it for several years now
I have an English Bulldog that had the same issue. He had a vitamin D deficiency because we live in a very hot climate and he can't be outside for more than a few minutes at a time most of the year. English bulldogs have a hard time with cooling themselves because of there squished face. Anyway, much of the melatonin is converted into vitamin D so I started giving him a few mg at night before bed and it cleared up within a few months. It's worked for 3 years now. Also, my wife and I are dog trainers and we've had a few clients that we have recommended this treatment to. They have all had success with it. One had been told by the vet that they thought it might be from bacteria or yeast, but the medicines they prescribed never helped so we told them about the melatonin and that worked great
I had a Yorkie who possibly has Cushings dusease. Her coat was very thin. Melatonin certainly made it grow thicker. ( I am 78 and my hair is pretty good too😉)
coffee / caffeine can interfere or negate the effects of melatonin. i feel that melatonin helps me stave off hunger while fasting. theres lots of info regarding melatonin & liver detox out there.
Our integrative vet oncologist suggested melatonin for one of my dogs with cancer. I have never tried it but saw it in a formulation for GERD/acid reflux and considered trying it. However, my circadian rhythm is and has always been pretty flawless and wondered if adding in more might have a negative effect. Thanks for highlighting the difference between natural and synthetic melatonin. I think the contaminant of serotonin might actually be good for me lol..
@@seanogcon An oncologist told me that it is good for cancer and actually recommends it for certain types of cancer. Maybe it depends what type but I would look into it further.
@seanogcon @reinadelmar11 Please see Dr Casey Peavler’s UA-cam videos on Melatonin and cancer. iirc there’s specific mention of prostate cancer with a net benefit, especially when in conjunction with chemotherapy, both increasing efficacy and reducing side effects. Similar to the video at 33:50
Personally , a little can go a long way but in the last several months, only higher doses are effective and helpful, lie, 10 mg in the evening, but curious to try it during the day too.
I take melatonine for years due to having delayed sleep phase syndrome. I also have MS so it is good to know that it might help with that. I take 5 mg.
On a different note ... Try grounding. Just touch the ground with you bare foot or bare hand for 30 minutes a day. It must be grass, sand, unglazed rocks, or unpainted concrete. I just learned this and will try for myself too.
All doctors talk circles because their pledge isn’t to cure anything, How on earth would they stay in business if they cured everyone? They give you meds to mask symptoms, they are not in the cure business.
I watched about 14 minutes of this video and I was waiting for her to mention Sun exposure is the primary source of Melatonin. She mentioned Vitamin D and the skin, but failed to mention the Sun
When I get sun exposure, it gives me a headache for the entire day and prolonged exposure gives me hives. So even though it is a good source for vitamine D and melatonin production, I cannot take advantage of the sun.
Since being a practicing nocturnist I couldn;t sleep by day. Now i work traditional day time hours but i sleep 1 or 2 hours max and wake up 6 times a nite. I tried Melatonin 1 mg for past 2 nites. Initially I slept 6 hrs. The next day i slept 5hrs. tonite is the 3rd day
I am an RN and quite a few years ago I found out that 0.3mg (the dose the gentleman below me mentioned) helped me get drowsy before bedtime. At that time you could find that dose. Now you can't. So I do what he does; I take a 1/2 of a 1 mg. dose. I read some medical research that recommended that dose to get drowsy at that time. It's what made me decide to try it. It surprises me when I read about people taking 5 or 10 mg. Evidently people think that if a little bit works, maybe a lot more will work better. For me taking a larger dose does not make me more drowsy.
I consider myself to be a reasonably healthy retired male on no medication and no predisposing conditions ie anxiety or depression. My current sleeping routine amounts on average to about five and half hours sleep per night.Listening to this channel does convey a level of hope to those suffering with insomnia and/or chronic inflammatory diseases so I thought I would give it a try, starting on an evening dose of 2mg as a slow release preparation. Day 1 :no appreciable difference, Days 2 and 3 no difference. Day 4: Became restless with just 4 hours sleep and feeling rough.I now feel disinclined to continue.I can understand the proposed biochemical activity at mitochondrial level but I believe that there needs to be a train of thought in relation to what is going on at biochemical level when the desired effect is not realised
Try to adjust the dose. Go up a little bit to about 5-10 mg and also try taking slow release melatonin (releases over 6 hours). Also, melatonin adjusts your circadian rhythm and is not a sleeping aid in the sense of making u stay asleep. For that u might need other help like l-theanin, pharma-GABA, l-tryptophan or even cannabis (indica). Good luck!
Dr Dr. Deanna says “One of the reasons for phytomelotonin outperforming synthetic melatonin is because of all of the different agents that it contains …the beta-carotene the chlorophyll even lutein and zeaxanthin which can help to be protective for that artificial blue light in the retina” She does admit that “you find phytomelotonin in supplement form” but that “you could have up to 13 different adulterants in synthetic melatonin …and one of those adulterants is serotonin” My question is, if there is a market for adulterated synthetic melatonin, surely there not also a market for non-adulterated melatonin with he added agents from nature - beta-carotene the chlorophyll even lutein and zeaxanthin - and would she agree that that supplement be so much better to take? I started taking melatonin to help me sleep per my doctor. For some reason, I had adverse affects; nausea, severe dizziness and vomiting. Why is this please? Dr. said I may be allergic to melatonin. Thanks
High dose of Melatonin like 100mg and above are used for treatment of some healrh condition and the report says even such dosages are quite safe to the body.
I am experimenting with 300 mg at night. So far it does seem to be helping me to sleep much better and through the night with more deep sleep according to my Garmin watch. I am concerned about discovering the source of my melatonin and whether it has phyto melatonin or not. I'm wondering how long I should take this high dose.
What is the recommended milligrams to take during the day , not for sleep.? Right now I take it for sleep only. I’ve been getting purple blotches on my feet more so on right foot. Does ingesting oral melatonin supplements actually reach the circulation as an intact molecule? Or should we learn how to increase our body's ability to produce melaton? In any case, I've recently started taking melatonin, D3, and magnesium glycinate in the evening... along with a dark room.
Can't remember which lecture I heard it in but the info was that taking vitamin d in the evening close to bedtime was the best for sleep. Seems counter intuitive on a very basic level but.... the Science was explained at the time and I've forgotten it!@@tamtamr9081

That's what I was looking for...not interested in supplements myself.
I didn't supplement her with anything as it didn't seem to bother her. It just looked weird, so I'd clip her down short and put a sweater on her.

Spend time in the morning sun i'm 77, i sleep 6-8 hrs every day.
👍
Do you take melatonin?
NO the morning sun activates the development of natural melatonin thru the eyes.
It’s not clear how one could find phytomelatonin that’s not artificially synthesized. Given that most melatonin products on the market are not optimal, I’m left with the question: “Should one take synthetic melatonin if optimal phytomelatonin formulations are not available?”
Crazy they didn't answer this!!! What good is plant based if we can't buy it.

Thank you. For elaboration on the subject
Fascinating discussion
Just discovered your channel. What a great, in-depth conversation! Subscribed and thanked the UA-cam algorithm.
Melatonin for eyes is very promising indeed, in fighting macular degeneration, along with all those others...! Thank you!
One had been told by the vet that they thought it might be from bacteria or yeast, but the medicines they prescribed never helped so we told them about the melatonin and that worked great
@@la7era1u54 I'm so glad we aren't alone in this lol..
seems crazy.
The thread is intended for PEOPLE!!!!

I've seen one study that indicates that melatonin has the unique ability to cleave AGEs. If that is borne out, that would be a huge benefit.
I have prostate cancer melatonin is a growth hormone So I can’t take it thanks for information Doctor
@@seanogcon An oncologist told me that it is good for cancer and actually recommends it for certain types of cancer. Maybe it depends what type but I would look into it further.

Please see Dr Casey Peavler’s UA-cam videos on Melatonin and cancer. iirc there’s specific mention of prostate cancer with a net benefit, especially when in conjunction with chemotherapy, both increasing efficacy and reducing side effects.

Amazing episode 🙏🏻🌹✨
Personally , a little can go a long way but in the last several months, only higher doses are effective and helpful, lie, 10 mg in the evening, but curious to try it during the day too.
Informative video. Thank you!
Thank you, Vanessa! Glad it was informative.
When i look at her skin, it motivates me to dust off my melatonin😮
When you speak about the connection Melatonin and Vitamine D - are we speaking about D3?
I take melatonine for years due to having delayed sleep phase syndrome.
I also have MS so it is good to know that it might help with that. I take 5 mg.
Check out Dr. Goldner and her goodbye lupus protocol . She has people reversing MS symptoms.
On a different note ... Try grounding. Just touch the ground with you bare foot or bare hand for 30 minutes a day. It must be grass, sand, unglazed rocks, or unpainted concrete. I just learned this and will try for myself too.
Thank you for sharing very meaningful video content.
Thank you for your kind comment! Glad you found it meaningful.
I tried melatonin once and slept for 2 days… haven’t tried it since…was only 5 mg😳
Melatonin with Zinc taken at the same time gives it more potency
I have no idea after watching this, what melatonin should I take as a supplement? Please help. Thank you for everything you do.
Not easily available to many people from the "first world", probably.
When I get sun exposure, it gives me a headache for the entire day and prolonged exposure gives me hives. So even though it is a good source for vitamine D and melatonin production, I cannot take advantage of the sun.
In a northern climate where I live plus most people working indoors sun exposure is just not a realistic option.
Yes. I'm surprised she didn't mention that IR from sunlight creates melatonin in mitochondria. Important omission IMO.
Bountiful beautiful blessings of gratitude o😊
Since being a practicing nocturnist I couldn;t sleep by day. Now i work traditional day time hours but i sleep 1 or 2 hours max and wake up 6 times a nite. I tried Melatonin 1 mg for past 2 nites. Initially I slept 6 hrs. The next day i slept 5hrs. tonite is the 3rd day
Hi what time you're taking them before sleep
Good luck!
Melatonin saved me during chemo
Dr Dr. Deanna says “One of the reasons for phytomelotonin outperforming synthetic melatonin is because of all of the different agents that it contains …the beta-carotene the chlorophyll even lutein and zeaxanthin which can help to be protective for that artificial blue light in the retina”
She does admit that “you find phytomelotonin in supplement form” but that “you could have up to 13 different adulterants in synthetic melatonin …and one of those adulterants is serotonin”
My question is, if there is a market for adulterated synthetic melatonin, surely there not also a market for non-adulterated melatonin with he added agents from nature - beta-carotene the chlorophyll even lutein and zeaxanthin - and would she agree that that supplement be so much better to take?

Please give us info on best kind and dose and when to take
Is there a mistake here at 30:10 ? 0.3mg ? That's awfully low. Most melatonin sleep enhancement supplement are 3mg .
0.3mg is correct. That is the physiological dose the body produces each day in the brain.
I started taking melatonin to help me sleep per my doctor. For some reason, I had adverse affects; nausea, severe dizziness and vomiting. Why is this please? Dr. said I may be allergic to melatonin. Thanks
PQQ in all growing . Very good and natural for energy and much more . Check it out now 75 works amazingly well.
High dose of Melatonin like 100mg and above are used for treatment of some healrh condition and the report says even such dosages are quite safe to the body.
I use over a gram daily and have used up to 3.5 grams. Their recommendations are very low.
This goid to know. The dosage they recommend doesn't work for me.
@@iforgot1801 Why do you use such a hight dose??
I am experimenting with 300 mg at night. So far it does seem to be helping me to sleep much better and through the night with more deep sleep according to my Garmin watch. I am concerned about discovering the source of my melatonin and whether it has phyto melatonin or not.
I'm wondering how long I should take this high dose.
Does it help with nerve damage
Could you compare dosing- if someone feels great on 10mg of melatonin, what would the plant based herbatonin equivalent be?
What is the recommended milligrams to take during the day , not for sleep.? Right now I take it for sleep only. I’ve been getting purple blotches on my feet more so on right foot. I do not drink alcohol or smoke at all and never have. Can u advise me on all of this . Does melatonin help circulation?? I am overweight about 20 lbs and it is all in my stomach. Cortisol is high and has been high my whole adult life.
Listen to on of Prof. Russel Reiter lectures , he is one of the top melatonin researchers , period

Unfortunatley, in my search for Magic Pills for the past 6 years, doing as much personal research as possible, I take sooo many supplements and too irregularly. I have seen some recent Nutritionists (Dr. Janinie form Canada ) unsisting NOT to take Mela which can do harm to the Body??
Does ingesting oral melatonin supplements actually reach the circulation as an intact molecule? Or should we learn how to increase our body's ability to produce melaton?
In any case, I've recently started taking melatonin, D3, and magnesium glycinate in the evening... along with a dark room.
can i asl why vit d in the evening not morning??
Can't remember which lecture I heard it in but the info was that taking vitamin d in the evening close to bedtime was the best for sleep. Seems counter intuitive on a very basic level but.... the Science was explained at the time and I've forgotten it!@@tamtamr9081

It depends on the person. For me evening Vitamin D interferes with sleep whereas morning Vitamin D helps sleep. Others may be fine with evening Vitamin D.
So what brand do you’re ommend as natural. I’ve tried5 off and on for years. I now 83 and totally dependent on over the counter sleeping pills or I don’t sleep. I dream if ido sleep on melatonin but I usually can’t sleep with it and if I doze off it’s a horrible degree of sleep.
