  • My go-to for Berberine supplementation:
    www.glutenfreesociety.org/sho...
Berberine is a naturally occurring compound extracted from plants like barberry and golden seal. It has a 3,000 year history of use in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Recent studies have shown that berberine has anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. It has been used to treat viral and bacterial infections, reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and support mental health.
Berberine has also been found to be effective in the treatment of conditions such as gallbladder inflammation, fatty liver disease, arthritis, gout, and diabetes. It is considered safe for human consumption and has been approved by the FDA. Berberine's mechanisms of action include reducing gut dysbiosis and increasing the production of protective substances in the gut.

Berberine is a plant based compound. It is extracted from various plants via chemical processes. Only the plants from which berberine are extracted have been used for thousands of years. Traditional medicine would often employ different berberine containing plants for various indications either singly or in various formulations to target various conditions while keeping
side effects to a minimum. We should not say that berberine the compound has been used for thousands of years, nor should we assume that its safety be similar to that of its traditional herbal counterparts.

What are your thoughts on Berberine potentially negatively impacting hypertrophy gains in the gym? I have always heard that in theory it will not be beneficial for those trying to gain muscle, as Berberine inhibits the mTor pathway. However anecdotally, I have been using Berberine at dosages between 1500-2000mg daily and have been seeing muscle gain simultaneously following a lifting program and caloric surplus.
What is your opinion on this?
