I fully get this I had an accident in November 2017 where I broke my knee joint and caused my lower spine to prolapse it's taken till this year for me to mentally get back on a bike and I'm so happy and glad I did.
I dropped my motorbike a few times when I first started, they were slow moving drops and I was not injured (only pride), so no issues. I also cycled a lot and I would to commute to work on a bike. I had been riding push bikes for years and years on the road, when one evening a motorbike rode out of a side road with my knee taking the full impact of his front wheel. I needed to have my ACL and MCL surgically repaired and it took over 8 months to recover. After that I can not ride a push bike on the road again not because of pain, just fear. The impatient car drivers and the lake of protective clothing just make me petrified. However I can ride a mountain bike off road and have no issues riding my motorbike. So I am irrational. Any accident is going to affect your confidence, you have done really well to conquered your fear.
Wow, that's such a rough thing to have happened to you. I don't blame you for having that mental block honestly. I love road cycling but I only do it because most of my commute is on segregated cycle paths. Otherwise no way. Which is funny considering I ride a motorbike haha
Been there too. I hit gravel and went down a ditch and over the bars suffering a neck injury. It took me months before I repaired the bike and even longer before I got back on.
Wooo motorcycles ROCK 🤘 Having rode with you recently I can say you definitely have nothing to worry about, you’re brave, mindful and willing in your riding, the fact you made the journey in the weather we had shows how good you are, not many riders would be doing journeys like that this time of year 👏 Ahah we need to get you a bike simulator like the MotoGP riders so you don’t need to sit outside on your bike pretending 😂 Great video, very well spoken 👏🤘
Good on you to talk about this. Any accident dents your confidence. It's the instances where it's not entirely under my control that scare me the most. But even then, there's probably a strategy to avoid and minimise them 👍
At the age of 23 I folded my foot over the footpeg. Literally. All five metatarsal bones broken with numbers 1 and two sticking out. I went from running two miles in 12:30 to never running again. Messed up the knuckles on my clutch hand, the pinky and ring finger don't really work soo well. I still ride. I'm 44, ride a KLX230 dualsport and a YZ125. Yes, everything I broke hurts as I've got metal holding bones together but I still ride. I love to ride and a bit of pain won't stop me. Pain is acceptable, quitting is not.
Last April I had a crash, Car pulling out in front of me last minute at 60mph. I went through the windscreen at an angle, my beautiful zx6r flipped over the car and bounced down the road. I had 5 broken vertebrae in my back, 4 broken ribs, a shattered left hand, busted knee, broken collarbone, punctured collapsed lung, internal bleeding in my abdomen I've had 4 surgeries so far and I'm still going on treatment.. My friends and family never want me to ride again. I'll never forget my wifes face the weeks after.. All that being said I'm adamant I will ride again and I have been since the day after the accident.. the closer I get to that being a reality the more scared I am tbh....at the same time I'm so excited to feel that sensation again! I feel selfish and at the same time I'm very lucky!! I can still walk
It's a totally different perspective when the accident happens to you, right? I remember feeling so lucky that it could have been worse, and I couldn't wait to get back on, whereas others see it as putting yourself back in danger. Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're recovering well and are able to get back on when you're ready
Thanks, It certainly is putting yourself back in danger but worth it I think.. Not my first crash on a motorcycle. Definitely my worst! Hopefully it stays that way :) I won't truly know how I feel until I try.@@ayserides
The motoGP riders do look pretty cool when they go flying into the air and get up like it was nothing. That's how I picture myself, when in reality I cry every time I get mildly hurt 😂
I'm really glad you're OK and back ridings. This was all very good advice to others 👏 My favourite tip to riders is. Always assume everyone is out to kill you and don't trust anyone on the roads. I'll never forget my mate saying to a new young rider one day. He said I can guarantee you that you'll only ever have one fatal accident and that has always stuck with me.
My two cents : riding is dangerous as soon as you loose your focus on the riding itself. I had a finger bone broken and an ankle painful for a couple weeks. 2 Crashes and each time riding very peacefully... but thinking about something else while riding. I also felt and drop the bike a number of times while playing the fool and riding over my skills... but never get hurt doing so...
That area looks familiar. :o Like Rhythmic said, hanging out with you recently and during T0nkFest shows you still have a very positive outlook. Great for picking up riding again. :)
I saw that finger and it looked really painful to me but the expression on your face and the words you used describe it removed any infinitesimal doubt that this was a major serious injury. Still not as bad as the look you gave us when we told you an Uber from the middle of nowhere (Deepest darkest North Pennines) would be 3 to 4 hours! 🤣. So great to see you back riding so well surely you are ready for that advanced test now???
It was a real bad ouchie :( Every time I leave London people tell me that the busses only run once an hour, you can't just get ubers everywhere and you can't drunkenly order deliveroo at 3am? I don't know how they manage... I'm hoping to put in for test March or so 2023, when it thaws out a bit :p
Hi, lonely to find your channel, you were recommended on my channel as I asked for recommendations of UK channel's. Accidents are just that. And we learn from them. Sounds like you've had, as you say a wake-up call. Confidence is easily lost and hard to gain. You turns and dropping are my wobbly areas as an old bike was too tall for me. Ride safe & enjoy, Lady J Rider
Welcome to the channel! It's definitely helpful to have a bike that fits right until you build up that confidence. My cbf125 didn't fit me well and it made learning to ride much harder
Earlier this year I was riding to work and sat at a red light, while I was waiting an Uber driver in a Prius drove full speed into the back of me and sent me halfway to next week. luckily my bike took the brunt of it and I was wearing all the armour etc, I escaped with only sprains/bruises but the bike was a write off. Getting straight back on a bike as soon as possible definitely helped (although I did have an unhealthy obsession with my mirrors for a couple of weeks 😂) I got the bike roadworthy again at minimal cost courtesy of eBay, and spent the rest of the payout on DAS so it didn't work out too badly in the end
Wow, rear end accidents scare me so much. I also developed mirror paranoia. Which is strange considering my accident wasn't anything to do with that. The brain likes to do its own thing sometimes!
I missed this when vid launched. We are all different ..I am a double sided coin. On one side I analyse my riding (& life) more than some ..On the flip side I am quite stubborn & resilient. However skilled or experienced.. all riders are only as good as our last ride Always up for a ride ...(usually around W.Sussex). Nothing to prove & no agenda. Thanks for content this year. Ride Safe 👍🏍
yoo big plastic handguards maybe? i had some and i slid a couple of times on 125 and was ok. i feel like maybe 600 break my finger just landing on it tho but still, they gotta protect better than none. shitty oxford bar end ones suck tho get the ones that attach at both ends. im still scaredy when it looks super slippy but its good to remind u to be careful innit. i take lots of corners with my leg out when its wet like super moto style, im sure it looks dumb like im scared, but i slip a few times like this and push bike back up and don't crash, so fk what i look like lol.
Handguards might have helped, as long as they didn't bend. I was thinking of getting some for keeping the wind off of my hands at some point. Yeah its good to be careful on slippery surfaces! I nearly slipped on my 125 and my leg slammed into the ground and kicked me upright again
Stay safe - from a fellow biker. Good on you for getting back out there and talking about how you’ve conquered your fears.
Thank you!
Wise words! Its clear you made the right choice because you understand what motorcycling does for you.
Thank you :D

Spot on. Wise words from someone so young.
Thanks!

Me too. Hate the idea of coming around a blind corner and having to deal with someone making a dodgy overtake or something
So awesome how you are a very smart rider!..I really wish every motorcycle rider here in California have an attitude like you!!!!
Thanks :p

I've come off a few times myself, you do get used to sliding down the road looking fly ;)

I couldn't agree more. You have to be 100% focused

That area had too many roundabouts for damp weather :(
