I suffered a TBI after my truck fell on my head. The main thing that was damaged was my optic nerves. I was in recovery for about 8 months. I was only aware for 6. I'm doing a lot better now and living on my own now. My survival chance was 20%.
So glad you came through it. If u dont mind me asking, u say I were aware for 6 months, were u in a coma for 2 months or conscious but unresponsive. My daughter has had very limited response after 5 weeks. Her eyes are open and we think she can hear. God bless x

I was glad to finally see a video that showed the process from the accident to ICU to acute care and onward. My adult stepdaughter's biological father (71 yoa) was in a serious MVA (no seat belt) last week and has been diagnosed with severe diffuse axonal injury. They can't perform an MRI due to his pacemaker not being compatible, but the CT scan shows bleeding/lesions peppered throughout his brain. The hospital is already making plans to have him transferred to a long term acute care hospital once they wean him off the ventilator. My stepdaughter is terribly stressed as she is left with making all the decisions and lives several states away from her father.

The end is so true. It can take a long time. I’m about 2 years in and still recovering. Recovery is hard and mundane but the most rewarding thing ever
what are some of your lasting symptoms?
Mostly walking (& balance) and my voice. They have improved significantly over the past few years but I’m still working on them. I have some videos that I can go back and look at and seeing how far it’s come keeps me going. I’ve seen no sign of a slowdown yet too.
@@JarredPayne my BIL is in the trauma unit at MUSC in Charleston. Hasn't regained consciousness since hit and run while walking July 2. It's so sad to see him not coming to yet. How long for you?
I’m so sorry to hear that. I never lost consciousness thankfully. My injury was from an infection. I’ll keep him in my thoughts

Well done. This is a good summary of the dedicated medical practitioners contribution to BI recovery. Recovery is a long process requiring tremendous work and optimism.
Thank you for this video. It is very helpful. Shortly after college graduation I still had a lot of assignments to finish and I Collapsed, hitting my head on the edge of my table where I was working on my last assignments. I Woke up in the hospital and after telling the staff what last happened before my collapse. They discovered a blood clot that had to be flushed out. I am still recovering from mild traumatic brain injury. It's already been a year since my accident.
same, i slammed the back of my head on concrete and was unconscious for like 3 to 4 seconds and now i struggle with depersonalization, bad memory, anxiety and depression(kind of). I got like 5 staples

Repeat after me: there are no "mild" TBIs. Damage from a TBI of any severity can be far-reaching, and you may find yourself compensating for it for the rest of your life.
I don't mean to scare you, but I'm still recovering from a TBI I sustained in 1981. You will find workarounds and probably lead a normal life, but I just want to tell you you've had a life-changing incident.
I suffered a brain injury and i was in a coma for 3 weeks. I died during that time and they had to refibrulate me. I woke with all my faculties still in order, except for talking. That came back to me my first week. They put me in speech classes and one other for 8 weeks. I had to have brain surgery in 6 months. I AM A MIRACLE! And I've found Jesus. He helped me get through this. When I died, God and He didn't want me yet so I LIVED. It happened 12 years ago. I've been going to church for 5 years now. I live on my own and can drive, speak, and talk. I recovered in 5 years plus three more. I only have God and Jesus to thank and the doctors and nurses. I'm happy!
I have had a concussion after multiple blows to the head where I cannot move my neck for almost a week and was in constant pain!!
My TBI was 6 years ago. I was 47 years old. After spending 2 weeks in ICU after a Crainecyomy, I was sent home with my mom to fend for myself. I haven’t been able to figure out why I can’t do certain things and haven’t been able to work. I met someone recently who also has a TBI and she told me to Call an attorney so that I can collect Social Security. This has been a complete nightmare for me! I wish I would have had this type of care to help me get back to my life!!
Yes, you should be able to get SS and disability. There are some lawyers that will do the process for free and keep a 3rd. Start with the social worker if you can find her.

Hello my brother is currently in this kind situation and the Doctor said that he needs a brain surgery which can't be done in the country or neither the hospital. So do think he will survive without the surgery?

This is very good information. We are facing 1 to 3 months of rehab. My spouse had a subdural hematoma and craniotomy. Thanks for the overview.

I had a craniotomy on 26/11/19 does anyone know why my right Arm gets stiff and the veins stick up the physio says it’s nerves but I’m not sure I had seizures two days after the op

I was in a automobile accident on my 21st birthday, I was asleep in the back seat when the driver went for her phone which had fallen into the passenger floorboard; she went off the road and flipped the car I flew forward smashing and shattering my face, then folded in half backward into the passenger seat floorboard. I broke my l2 and my l3, my nose my jaw, my forehead, my eyesockets, my face and suffered severe traumatic brain injury. I was in the hospital for a week before the had me "alive" enough to send me home, I was only awake for two of those days. Never have I had anyone professional help me. Never have I went back to the doctor. Not because I don't care, I want to know what all is wrong with me I still have real struggles with my short term memory. I still go to work I still pay my taxes and I am still a father and a husband to those who need me, I just wonder how bad is it and will I have permanent or degenerative side effects I'm 29 now and while I have improved a lot there is still a lot I can't improve.

I breathed in a toxin at work. This caused 'enormous' 24/7 headaches for 3 months. Now, I have double vision in both eyes...everytime I push or indeed stand for too long I get enormous left sided headaches, double vision gets worse, fatigue etc. My neurologist says my scans are ok but I simply can't push out of it. I spend most days seated. It's been over a year now. I'm so unhappy. Does anyone know what I should do?
It might not be connected with whatever toxin you breathed in (why were you not provided with the appropriate equipment to stop it happening??) I would recommend that you research vestibular migraine (sometimes called migraine associated vertigo) Your symptoms sound like vestibular migraine which is 24/7 and produces all kinds of crazy crap. Scans show nothing in this case (except that there is no tumour or evidence of things like dementia) You can LOOK normal but your brain is definitely not working properly. I have vestibular migraine and I think it's possibly on the same spectrum as epilepsy. Try to see a neurologist who specialises in balance.
I was hit by a car that drove into my lawn trying to kill me going like 50 and I have nerve damage severe nerve damage on the right side of my body will I ever be able to get help months later I was in the back see when someone drove me into a tree going like 60 and now I suffer from traumatic brain injury will I ever be able to get help for my problems
Jesus is a very present help in trouble. He will help you if you cry out to Him!

The most important aspect of brain repair is not explained well enough at all. Video is non-specific and makes it seem that all patients will walk, talk, and do many, many, other things. The tragedy for those who struggle for years is excluded from information. Don’t hide the truth.

How long should a person be in ICU after the brain injury?
Depends on person’s condition and ability to survive without close observation like in ICU
