    Great idea for a video. There really aren't enough reviews of clothing from people who have used things for an extended period. That Revit mesh jacket was on my list for a while, but I ended up going with the Merlin Chigwell. My main mistake has been eating too much and exercising too little. :D

    • @ayserides

      Written reviews are the worst. People will leave 5* reviews saying "haven't used it yet but it seems really good!" 🤦‍♀️

    No joke, you are the best youtuber I've seen in the moto space and it isn't even close. No shade to anyone else ofc but you are a million times better than the rest imo. I think I've watched every video you've made in these last few weeks as I'm planning on doing my CBT soonish. I've learnt so much from you and your opinions are always intelligent and your method of just getting straight into the video with no faff is amazing (why do some creators feel the need to spend an hour on intro-ing a video?!). A sincere thank you for all of the education. (p.s. love the heart sticker on your mac in your other videos #ally)

    I think every body makes the same mistakes. When I got back to riding after a very long layoff I needed to buy everything again. within six months I replaced the helmet, gloves and trousers 🙂
    I have that Rev'it mesh jacket, it was defintly needed last summer.
    I replaced the armour in a my trousers with Resurgence D30 IP Ghost Armour it is really comfortable and should give a good level of protection

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому +1

      You just can't really know what you want until you start riding in it.
      That armour looks good! Oxford do one called the Dynamic I think. Looks like a cheap alternative to the ghost stuff but haven't tried it yet since the shapes aren't right for the gear I have

  • @SloboloboVFR

    I bought some cheap water proofs that go over my jacket and jeans, gives me a lot more flexbility and I can stuff them into a small bag. I also bought some seperate knee protectors that strap on over my jeans, as you mentioned I also found some knee armour sits in the wrong place.

    Good subject. When your a newbie it's so hard to decide on what you need, and what is worth the money.
    I've think I've chosen well - only regrets here are a pair of gloves that I hated wearing, and some Richa jeans I paid over odds for.
    My oxford Hardy wax jacket has been through weather far outside of its design spec and still has years left in it.
    I've also got a pair of Texspeed commuting overtrousers that are ideal for my daily ride and double as wet weather gear while I'm working!

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому +1

      I saw some draggin jeans with a really high rating too (level 2 on the old system which is even higher than AAA on the new system). They look like a really good deal
      I have struggled to find textile jackets with a high rating, other than BKS and Hideout making the made to measure stuff for the police etc. The knox honister has a AAA rating so maybe I'll go for that once my current jackets break or wear out

    I have the same problem as you with my stumpy little legs and I can't recommend Hood jeans enough. It's a small family business and you can only order direct from their website, but the jeans are AAA rated and absolutely bomb proof, leg length shortened to order with properly adjustable knee armour (not just 2 positions in a pocket) and I've only ever had fantastic customer service both times I've dealt with them 👍

    Yeah, gear can be a pain. Took me almost four years to find a pair of leather pants that I could actually fit. Turns out my legs are just abit long. Ended up with (buying) way too much gear for that reason as well.
    Need to get myself some clothing racks for my gear too :P

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому

      If you're not a completely average size, most stuff seems not to fit very well. Will be interesting to see what the leather shop can do to make the trousers fit a bit better

  • @thatwolffe3802
    @thatwolffe3802 Рік тому

    I have never had a pair of RST trousers that actually fit properly. have tried leathers, jeans, full textiles. they always seem oversized in my standard sizes and they don't fit properly in lower sizes.
    my current RST Jeans are the AAA rated RST X Kevlar. the knee armour always slips down because the "adjustable" part is just held in with velcro. its a bit shit for the fact the jeans cost me £160. (they're now £150)
    I actually came off the bike at about 20mph on a roundabout because it was wet and the council in their infinite wisdom put a manhole direct centre on a roundabout, and the knee armour simply moved out of the way and allowed my knee to full contact the road, I was limping for a week around work lmao.
    I am now looking for some new jeans.

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому +1

      Wow, knee armour is useless if it doesn't sit in the right place! I think armoured underlayers are the way to go, but it's one extra layer to buy and wear

    • @thatwolffe3802
      @thatwolffe3802 Рік тому

      @@ayserides yep, I agree, sadly multiple layers isn't as viable for the summer.

    It's funny when you pass your test and get into bikes you have no idea how much gear is a PITA, bike is no problem i know what bikes i like (though i'm just about to be on my 7th in three years), but gear is a constant ongoing thing, you think it'd be simple, just boots, jacket, gloves etc, i made the same mistake with a leather jacket, was too hot in the summer and cold in the colder weather, leather pants were ok but had long boots, bought Camo pants then the long boots looked daft so had to buy short boots which were twice the price of the Camo pants. Summer gloves, winter gloves, it's a constant expensive battle lol.

    Good video however you are talking absolute nonsense when it comes to leather. Serious bollocks.
    There is no reason, at all you cannot wear leather all year round especially in cold . Decent leather keep wind out. Zip up to the top and you will not feel cold. Most now comes thermal inner linings which keep you toasty.
    In mild showers leather is fine. Larger downpour you will need treat leather beforehand. Dubbin or some nilwax and your leather will be as waterproof as textiles.
    As long you look after the leather eg. Clean and treat it's fine. However you would do something similar with textiles so not much difference.

    • @1786crafty
      @1786crafty Рік тому +1

      Also worth mentioning you should look into gear from JTS biker. The have the most selection for sizes for short and tall folks. I am tall but not fat and they are brilliant. Plus free no fuss returns is a bonus so you can keep trying until you get it right.
      Seriously worth giving them a call.

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому +2

      Hm bit of an aggressive way to make your point. Of course you *can* wear leather in any conditions, but it's not as versatile as textile in extreme heat, cold or wet. For example my leather gear is much more tight fitting so I can't layer that much under it when it's freezing outside. Certainly not "serious bollocks" as you so eloquently put it

    • @1786crafty
      @1786crafty Рік тому +2

      @@ayserides Eloquence was not the purpose of my post. It was merely to correct your false statement in the video. As previously stated leather is more then adequate for most conditions be it rain or cold.
      Your example of tight leather jacket and layers is completely baseless, the exact same criticism could be made of a tight textile jacket.

    • @ayserides
      @ayserides  Рік тому +2

      @crafty786 right, but im not talking about any textile jacket. I'm talking about my textile jacket, and my leather jacket. I can't wear *my* leather jacket when it's too cold because I can't layer that much under my leather jacket. As such, I choose not to wear the leather jacket when the conditions aren't right for it. I wasn't aware that this is a controversial opinion tbh. You're free to wear your leather jacket if you'd like to, as is anyone else
