    Another beautiful and great departure video. 👌👍
    As I said, I think the import of the necessary cards at the right time is brilliant. 🏆
    What I particularly like about the departure videos is how the process in the cockpit proceeds.

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos I was taking a KLM flight back from Schiphol to Edinburgh last week, sat next to an off-duty KLM Boeing pilot who had been on the simulator. He was telling me how Airbus had "cracked it" compared to Boeing in terms of cognitive load and uniformity of pilot interface across their different types. I'm always struck by how ordered and consistent you're able to keep your "office".

    Yet another great video - getting better every time! Even showing us the settings on the MCDU ! I noticed that some of the ground controller's instructions were in Finnish - presumably to the Finnair plane that was there next to you. That must limit your situational awareness - does it happen a lot ?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      Usually the controllers speak to small airplanes which fly VFR at low altitudes in the local language. This is the same everywhere. These pilots must not be able to speak English. Sometimes you also hear ATC talking French or Spanish with big airplanes arriving at airports in Spain or France. I think that they try to avoid it but it happens. I do not like it because it does not help to improve our awareness.

      It is all about improving flight safety. This is a topic which shows also up on other videos here on the channel. This is my comment on that which I posted at another video: I hope that helps a little to understand why this is done sometimes:.
      Every country has different ideas about how they like the pilots to answer to ATC. But in general, both ways are accepted as long as the readback is coming timely and correctly. The reason for saying first the callsign and then the cleared altitude, heading or so is that when doing so the pilot flying dials the altitude ... into the flight management system and the pilot monitoring reads the altitude ... from the cockpit displays in the readback instead of just repeating the ATC message. Saying the callsign first gives the pilot flying the time to set the altitude ... in the system. If the altitude would be read to ATC from the display first and then the callsign, a slight answer delay may be possible. Especially in high density airspaces, ATC expects an answer without any delay.

      The one below the UTC clock is used as a flight timer. We start it at takeoff and stop it when on the ground again. Our ACARS system also records the times. But if this would fail, we have the stopwatch and our manual recordings on the OFP as a backup. This stopwatch displays only hours and minutes. The upper stopwatch is showing minutes and seconds. We usually do not use it because we also have a stopwatch available at each ND. We prefer to use the ND stopwatch for short term timings.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and your question. The airlines decide about if first officers are allowed to taxi the airplane when they are pilot flying. Here the airline decided that only the captain is allowed to taxi the airplane. As a result, the first officer always has to perform the pilot monitoring duties on the ground, even if she or he is pilot flying. Those SOPs are based on risk assessments which are done by the individual airlines. Lots of factors are taken into consideration during these assessments. Different airlines come to different results. So some airlines allow the first officers to taxi the airplane and other airlines do not allow it.

      It had been already answered. The TAS effect gives us an additional margin for a possible takeoff abort. The TAS effect is the greatest if the difference between the "Flex temperature" which we enter in the MCDU to reduce engine power during takeoff and the real outside temperature is very large.
