Hello Cpt. Sorry I'm only getting back to you now, it was a bit stressful. Another great departure video from LOWS. 👌👍 I'm always overwhelmed by the great cockpit videos. 🥇 It was bright sunshine that day. I also think it's really great how YOU communicate with your FO. You radiate enormous calm, competence and experience. 🏆 It's great! With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice weekend. Greetings from Styria 🤗 Werner
Great to see that you are back. Hopefully the situation you mentioned last week is now under control. We really appreciate all the effort that you put into making these videos - a great "advert" for safe aviation, your company - and you and your fellow pilots!
Thank you so much for your kind words! The matter of the stolen videos is somehow under control and should hopefully be finally solved during the next days or so.
A pleasure to watch, as always captain! Probably the unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer the departure videos over the arrival videos. Can't really tell why, both are highly interesting. But your departure videos always have that special something with all the cockpit preperations, start-, taxi- and takeoff-procedures and ATC/ground crew communication. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching and for your helpful feedback! You are right, approach and landing videos usually get more views than the departure videos. But I will continue with a mixture of both. Have a nice day!
Looking at a lot of Approach and Departure videos and they are very good must say the main pilot is a gentleman and i can see you could learn a lot from him safe flying to all :).
As a student pilot in Australia and currently gaining simulator experience on the A320, these videos have been a high quality source to implement my theory learning! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the good feedback! I expect that the discussed problem with the stolen videos is completely solved during the next week or so. In between, most of the videos have been removed.
It's great to see you return, I hope it is because you feel you are "able to" and not because you feel you "have to" if I've made sense! Great video as ever :)
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Due to the amount of stolen videos, It took lots of time to address the issue. In addition, new videos were stolen immediately after publication. Most of the stolen videos have been removed already. I expect the last stolen videos being removed during the next week or so.
Thank you so much for another great video Captain. Today is my birthday and over the last week i was really hoping that you would be able to sort all the trouble out and provide us with a new video
Haha, you reading in my mind? Yesterday i was thinking about you videos and today is a new one. Thank you for another beautifull departure 😊😊 greetings from Poland
Thanks for the good feedback! The problems with the stolen videos are hopefully finally solved during the next week or so. Most of the stolen content had been erased until now.
Please don’t forget that it was the first officer who took off. I was a little concerned however when she mentioned a pushback but the captain said it will be a right turn on the apron. Still another great video, thank you captain and first officer! Love the channel. 👍👍
Most of the time, we are pushed back from the parking position. Some airports have pushback and taxi out positions. Here we had to do a tight right turn out. If we do not know from previous experience at the same airport / parking position, ATC or the ground crew will tell us.
Dear Stefan, superb video as usual, and great to hear that Tiktok issue is on the right track. My question is why the RWY33 was the selected direction with this wind conditions? I know that tailwind was within limits, but as I saw some SIDs are also available in RWY15 direction, also ATIS mentioned rwy 15 in use. My best guess is fuel saving, as it is shorter towards EDDL. Thanks so much, regards from Hungary.
Thank you so much for watching, your feedback and your support for the channel! The main reason is that due to the close obstacles (mountains) in the takeoff path for runway 15, we prefer a takeoff from runway 33, even with tailwind as long as the wind is in limits. Sure, the flight is also shorter, saves fuel and makes less noise near the city of Salzburg. Many greetings to Hungary!
LOWS is awesome. Been there already, was lucky I was there with a controller friend and got a tour of their tower. The RedBull hangar across is also an awesome visit! Highly recommend airport.
@@godfreyduncan7783 You need a longer landing distance with flaps 3 because the approach speed is about 5 knots faster. It saves a very small amount of fuel, but needs more braking/reverse. The final pitch attitude with Flaps 3 is about 2 degrees higher than with flaps full. Flaps 3 provides less drag than flaps full. Usually, the pilot flying decides what she or he prefers unless operational circumstances dictate a certain flap setting.
Captain Stefan it's great to see you back for a usual Saturday upload. Hope all is well with you and thank you very much for the beautiful upload. Big respect & lots of love for you and your channel.
Sehr schönes Video, wie immer! Danke dafür. Wäre es denn Möglich mal einen kompletten Flug "mitzumachen"? Von Off-Block to On-Block?
Hey Captain. Nice to see ya back and I hope you could sort the probs out... Just a question concerning the dep. RWY: the Wind was coming from 160° and you chose RWY33. I wondred, in this case I thougt RWY15 is nearly perfect. Why RWY33?
If we fly to the north, we usually use runway 33, even with a few knots of tailwind. This makes the flight shorter and runway 33 has way less obstacles in the departure sector than runway 15.
Amazing video and views as always! Thanks for continuing this amazing series. Also a quick question: Is it correct, that in the Lufthansa Group Airlines only the Cpt is allowed to taxi? Looking foward to next Saturday, until then, Guten Flug!✈
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Here, the captain is always taxiing the airplane. I do not know about all the other airlines in the group. Have a nice day! Alles Gute!
Great video, Captain! Your channel is awesome especially for a ATPL student like me. I have one question : When the Pilot Flying decides to turn AP ON after departure? Cheers!
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! 5 seconds after takeoff and at a minimum altitude of 100 feet above the ground, the autopilot may be switched on. This is the minimum. After that, the pilot flying decides on his or her own when she or he switches the autopilot on. I wish you all the best for your ATP training!
Thanks a lot for this video, always somthing to learn for me as a Simmer. Momentarily on my flight from SBSN Fonseca to Island Noronha Brazil with the A320 Flightfactor and XPlane 11. Always 3 green and happy landings
Bene bene, ottimo video. A nice take-off: the lady seems very good - "bravissima" - to me; and with your experience sir that gives confidence. I'd have a couple of questions if possible: - when climbing manually does the pilot look (almost) exclusively at the instruments (primary flight disp., flight director and navigation display)? or is it important to look outward ? - is the insertion of the auto-pilot as a rule around 10,000 feet, .. or is it at discretion? Thank you if you have the time for one (i.e. two) replies.. Happy weekend to all the crew.
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and the questions! We call it scanning. This includes watching the instruments and also looking outside. The look outside is very important because we have to watch for other airplanes, obstacles, clouds .. The pilot flying decides when she or he switches the autopilot on. Have a great day!
I really enjoy your videos! They're very entertaining and interesting and I'm looking forward to new uploads. I'm not sure if that is possible, but I would love to see a departure from cold and dark cockpit including MCDU setup. Also, if you could do that, a camera view of the overhead panel would be awesome.
Great to see you back and another great video. I just wondered, would it be also possible to put the ICAO in the title along with the IATA you already show? 👍
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! I would love to put the 3 letter and the 4 letter identifier in the title. Problem is that the number of letters for the title is limited. Right now, you find both identifiers in the description of all my videos. I will keep your suggestion in mind. Have a nice day!
No, we only would request runway 15 if the tailwind for a takeoff from runway 33 would be too much and our performance calculation shows that a takeoff from runway 33 is not possible.
As always a very instructive video! One question: It looks like you always get your IFR clearance after you programmed the FMGS. How are you sure which SID you will get? (Likely not a problem at LOWS for 33 but in general)
Thanks for your good feedback! The basis of any IFR flight is a filed IFR flight plan. This is done by the company sometime before the flight takes place. This flight plan starts at a certain navigation fix. Usually this fix is the end of a standard instrument departure. Before we get the departure clearance from ATC we know from the ATIS which runway is in use. If there is only one instrument departure routing from this runway to the fix, the clearance cannot be different. Sometimes there are several routings to the same fix. If this is the case, we know from prior experience which departure routing we have to expect or we ask ATC about it. But surprises are always possible. Once in a while we get a completely different departure routing and fly from the endpoint or an intermediate point to the first point of our flight plan.
This is an instrument flight. Main reference are the instruments inside the cockpit. But the outside view is included in our continuous scanning. As long as we are not in the clouds, we always watch for other traffic and obstacles.
Are you on this flights very light or why are your V-Sppeds so low? And is it correct that you have a TOBT Time where you want to leave the gate and a Take off time? Or just have a Take Off time and you need to calculate the TOBT with youe Take OFF time? Btw, pretty nice Video!
The A319 has lower speeds than the A320 or A321. The speeds are calculated by the Airbus takeoff performance module. We file a flightplan and the flightplan contains an EOBT (Estimated OFF Block Time). This is the time at which we plan to leave the gate. Here, we got a CTOT (Calculated Takeoff Time) from ATC. We call the CTOT usually Takeoff ATC SLOT. Reason for this CTOT was traffic enroute to the destination. The CTOT is based on the EOBT. It is allowed to takeoff 5 minutes prior the CTOT until 10 minutes after the CTOT. If we cannot manage that, we have to delay the flightplan and will probably get a new CTOT. Sometimes much later than the first one. TOBTs (Target OFFBLOCK TIME) are generated at large CDM airports. These times are set by the handling company and the airport generates a TSAT (Target Startup time) based on the TOBT, the traffic situation on the ground and a possible CTOT for the flight. The TSAT window starts 5 minutes prior the TSAT and ends 5 minutes after the TSAT. If we cannot manage to start the engines in that time frame, we have to reset the TOBT and the airport would generate a new TSAT.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! The process of the removal of the stolen videos is still ongoing. Until today, most of the videos have been removed completely. Some are still visible in several countries. I hope that the process will be finished in a week or so.
The ND is the navigation display. We have to select the range and if we want to see airports, navaids …. in addition to our routing. Also we have to choose between the weather radar and the terrain picture on the ND.
@@Airyt12 The detailed routing has to be entered by the crew into the MCDU. The basic routing is usually transmitted into the MCDU by ACARS from the company.
And this is completely ok. There is no requirement to engage the autopilot at 1500 feet or so. She can engage the autopilot whenever she likes. I usually do the same and engage the autopilot at about 10000 feet.
It depends on the airline. They all do individual operational risk evaluations and if the result is that it is better that the captain is always taxiing, they will implement this as SOP. I worked as FO for an airline which allowed me to taxi and for others who did not allow me to taxi. I had no problem just to navigate on the ground.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I understand and I know why it is the way it is. I am an FO and I feel like maneuvering on the ground is an essential step towards becoming a Captain. Just imagine never taxiing as an FO and then after your upgrade you are suddenly required to taxi with 0 experience. Risk management or not, in my opinion it's a greater risk from a company perspective by not letting the FOs to taxi.
Thanks for sharing your detailed thoughts! The upgrade training for the first officers is very thoroughly. It includes - for sure - a good training in how to taxi an Airbus. As I was a first officer, I changed from one company to another with a very short IOE/supervision training and the need to taxi the airplane. This was not a problem. Risk evaluations are done by special trained people who take all the possible risks and benefits into account. As I said, the result at different airlines may be different. And as a pilot, we may not like the result. I personally like it very much if the pilot flying does the full flight, including the engine start and the taxiing to and from the runway. But if the safety department comes up with the result that it is better that the captain always does the taxiing, I have to accept it. They do not do such decision to annoy us.
Let your FOs taxi for god-sake! German airlines seem to operate a Man-Boy cockpit. 90% of other European Airbus operators allow the FO to taxi, are German FOs inferior? And please don't go quoting insurance! It's a lousy (and bullshit) excuse.
Thanks for your feedback! It is not as easy as you say. First of all, as the crew, we strictly follow the company procedures. This has to be done regardless of if we like or dislike the procedures. For safety reasons, there is no room for personal procedure changes. If you operate a large airline or airline group, all procedures, changes of procedures and operational decisions have to go through operational risk assessments. These assessments are done without any pre decisions and with the goal to operate the airplane as safely as possible. Different airlines / airline groups will come up with different results of such operational risk assessments because the prerequisites, airplane types, operational environment are different at every airline or airline group. I worked for different airlines in different countries and some allowed the first officers to taxi, others not. I personally have no problem with a taxiing first officer. But you also need to keep in mind that you cannot change this overnight because a change needs a training program for the first officers and for the captains to implement the procedure change.

Salzburg generaly uses 15 for landing and 33 for takeoff as long as possible

Missed not seeing a video in my feed last Saturday! Here's hoping that situation is under control now, but time will tell I guess....
Thanks for watching and your feedback! The process of the removal of the stolen videos is still ongoing. Until today, most of the videos have been removed completely. Some are still visible in several countries. I hope that the process will be finished in a week or so.
You see the ND do you guys program it from the fmc or is it automatic
The ND is the navigation display. We have to select the range and if we want to see airports, navaids …. in addition to our routing. Also we have to choose between the weather radar and the terrain picture on the ND.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos no what I mean is you know that green line (your route) do you program that on the fmc Or is it automatic
@@Airyt12 The detailed routing has to be entered by the crew into the MCDU. The basic routing is usually transmitted into the MCDU by ACARS from the company.
Captian during TAKE OFF seat arm rest on the throttle side should keep up or down?
Good question! I prefer to have it down and put my right arm somehow on the armrest.
Captain have u ever flied with BAE 146?
No.
Your views on b777 -300er sir?
I am sorry. Until now, no B777 on this channel.
the copilot flew the airplane up tp 9800 ft, may be she could have engaged the autopilot from the 1500 ft! no?!
And this is completely ok. There is no requirement to engage the autopilot at 1500 feet or so. She can engage the autopilot whenever she likes. I usually do the same and engage the autopilot at about 10000 feet.
I feel like, it's such a pitty, that some airlines don't allow FOs to taxi.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you for your thoughts and insight! 🙂 Love your videos, hope you will keep doing them!

Thanks for watching!
Waiting in vain for a less than perfect video.....
Thank you so much for your great feedback!
