Hello from Greece , if i am not mistaking , runway 28 is the runway they have extended so larger planes can land . Which does beg the question , why on earth big planes don't land in that runway .. It would be so amazing to do a planespotting , catching a heavy plane on final in Thessaloniki :( . In any case thanks so much for sharing these videos with us, as Greek i am expecting more island landing and takeoff videos , since Greece has so many islands and i can't wait to see more videos in islands that are not so popular as well :)
Thank your so much for watching and your detailed feedback! Runway 28 was closed for a while because they renewed everything. My understanding is that Runways 34, 16 and 10 are the main runways for arrival. 10 and 16 have ILS approaches so this are the most convenient approaches. 28 has only a VOR/DME approach and is a good runway for departure because it has no obstacles and the initial path is over water. I like the Greek islands very much. The majority of my Greek flights go to Samos.
I watch alot of different captains fly and I got to say watching your videos are just brilliant with some much information so I do learn alot from your videos.. Can't wait to the next one captain
Thank you so much for watching and for the great feedback! Please tell everybody who is interested in aviation about my channel. Thanks in advance for your help! Have a nice day!
Incredible video as always, Captain Stefan. Thank you SO much for your camera & editing skills. We appreciate your effort. I loved in particular the rolling take-off.

Watching your videos have for the first time made me (begin to) realise the processes and procedures the Pilots have to go through for every take off and landing. Thank you! The A320 NEO sounds different, if compared to the A320 CEO. I flew to Calvi during my time at another airline. The straight in approach over the water is nice, but the circling approach through the mountains is spectacular. Right now, I am not flying to Calvi. This may change any time.
Another great video! I find it quite unusual to ask and get takeoff clearance 2 mins before you are at the hold short point of the runway, the time difference means when you get to he runway, you question each other if it’s line up clearance only or also takeoff, just an observation. I flew on a NEO from Lanzarote back to Basel in spring and it was a great aircraft, powerful and quiet, a big change from B737-300 sim aircraft!
Thanks for the good feedback! Yes, the A320 NEO is a wonderful airplane: Better performance and significantly less fuel consumption and emissions! As we taxied to the runway, there was no restricting traffic. So we got the takeoff clearance very early. This does not happen too often, so we had to ask us at the runway "Are we really cleared for takeoff and lineup already? But we both remembered the early clearance and continued.
Thanks a lot for the good feedback! Please tell everybody you know who is interested in aviation about the videos. Thanks for your help! Have a nice day!
Vielen Dank! Guter Vorschlag.
I found the channel from the recommendations 1 day ago and it is amazing. Captain, do you have any videos with more difficult approaches or take offs? For a person like me which I'm not big fan of the heights and airplanes it is nice to see calm videos but it is more interesting (and I would say give some assurances) to see when something is not as calm as the ocean in Madeira ;)
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! The most difficult approaches on this channel are the approaches to Samos Island. Due to mountains, it requires a very late turn to final at low altitude. The runway is also short. Have a nice day!
One more excellent video. Thank you. And just a request. As a flight simmer i would love to see, if its possible, some MCDU action ( clear some pages, extended center line and so on). Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for watching and the good feedback! Whenever possible, I will try to include some MCDU action in the video. Due to operational reasons, it is not always possible. Have a great day!
Thanks for the good feedback! I am very sorry, on Thursday I won't be your captain on the flight to Fuerteventura. Maybe next time. Have a wonderful vacation!
Super video, wie immer! Danke! Wäre vielleicht auch ein Video über Start up and take off aus EDDL möglich?
Thanks for watching and the good feedback! It looks like that I may have to produce a video which concentrates on or highlights the special entries into the MCDU. I will keep your request in mind. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks for the good feedback! This are the last 2 videos: ua-cam.com/video/m9dc88OYIGc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/7ec3RFCt2U8/v-deo.html It all depends on my duty schedule. And this is always a surprise. There may be a CPH-departure published sometime in the next weeks.
The FOwas barely holding the sidestick😂😂. It's very sensitive i see. I saw that when turning it remained in the bank even after the sidestick was brought to neutral. Do the ailerons have some kind oftrim to maintain the bank or something?
Hey! I enjoy your video and great takeoff. I love this! Thank you. One question. Why is it that the PNF (Pilot Not Flying) controlling the thrust lvrs on take off? Not the PF(Pilot Flying). Thanks.
Thanks for the good feedback and your question! The Captain is controlling the thrust levers during the takeoff roll, even if he or she is Pilot Monitoring. Reason is that the Captain is also the crewmember who always would perform the takeoff abort, even if he or she is not the dedicated Pilot Flying for that flight.
Great video as always. In about 7:35 red message appears on PFD "MAN PITCH TRIM ONLY" (less than a 1s). What was the reason of this? From what I read it displays when there is a loss of both elevators.
Thanks for watching and your question. It looks to me that it was showing up during a self test of one of the flight control computers triggered by the power transition from APU to engine 2. This does not matter as it just went away and we confirm the technical status of the airplane after both engines are started.
Thank you captain for another great video love watching them and waiting for the new ones . Can I ask a question how do you decide on the flex temperature ?
Thank your for watching, the good feedback and your question! The Airbus performance calculation program shows us the maximum flex temperature possible with the associated speeds and other performance data. If we do not like the result, for example if we want a larger margin in case of a takeoff abort, we can manually enter a lower flex temperature in the program and check if we like it better. Whenever we are satisfied with the result we use the data and enter them into the MCDU.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos so the higher the flex temp it makes the engines think it’s hotter outside so retard the performance saving wear and tear is that roughly right ? Thanks 😊
Any chance a video to/from Monastir MIR/DTMB. Eurowings fly there from DUS on days 1 and 3, also CGN, FRA (Disvover) and STR.. if you can have it in your roaster. Thanks.
When a pilot is 'promoted' from the right seat to the left seat and, like the majority of people, he is right-handed I wonder how easy it is to get used to the controls being the other way around (especially the joystick). Does this ability form part of the 'promotion' training?
When a First Officer get promoted to a Captain he undergoes a comprehensive training program. First in the fullflight simulator and later in the airplane. The change from the right to the left seat is not very difficult. At the beginning, you will search for the engine instruments because they are now on your right instead of your left. During original flight training in flight school, the pilots fly from the left seat in small airplanes. So the view and the control use from the left seat is already known to the upgrading First Officer.
Does it take long to get your left hand used to the correct level of sensitivity on the joystick? Bit like using your left foot to brake in a car. Feels very awkward 😂
No high temps. Airbus wants us to switch the fans on until we are below 100 degrees. This reduces the max brake temperature in case of a takeoff abort.
What's the reason that sometimes during single engine taxi, you can hear constant PTU barking but other times you just hear a constant whine. Does it depend whether the elec pump is on or not?
During single engine taxi in, we always switch the yellow electric hydraulic pump on. This keeps the PTU off. So in the videos you see here at this channel, the PTU is off during single engine taxi in.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos So if the PTU is always making the dog barking noise during taxi, it means the pilot has left the yellow electric pump off? Would this be for operational reasons to sometimes preserve the elec pump? Just curious as to why you hear it on some flights but not others? Thanks
@@GarethReecewood I have no idea. The Airbus SOP wants us to switch on the yellow electric pump to avoid that the PTU is on all the time. There may be Airlines who modified the procedure.
No. They know that different engines / airplanes need different times for the engine start. They never complain about it. And it would not help because the engine needs the time and we cannot change it.
Good question. We can takeoff with packs on or off. Packs off needs a little less power, saves some fuel and reduces the wear of the engine because the maximum EGT (exhaust gas temperature) is lower during takeoff.
Hello Cpt. Another super nice departure video from Greece. 🤩👌👍 I was very excited about the rolling takeoff. 🛫 A question: When or where is a rolling takeoff used? 🤔 I can only thank you again and again for making such great videos for us! 🏆 Looking forward to the next great video! With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice week! Greetings from Styria 🤗 Werner
Hello Werner, thanks for watching and your good and detailed feedback! Standard procedure is a non rolling takeoff. That would mean, we keep the brakes until 50 % N1 or 1.05 EPR, we wait for the actual thrust to match our thrust lever position (engine spool up) and then we release the brakes and move the thrustlevers to FLEX or TOGA. Rolling means that we do the same things (without the braking), but keep the plane moving. The rolling takeoff is also acceptable. Depending on the circumstances it may need a little more runway, but is reduces brake wear and needs less total energy because we keep the plane moving. We usually do not like to do it with heavy planes on very short runways.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Hello Cpt. Thanks for the great and instructive answer. 👍 I'll try that in the simulator. I was very happy about your answer. I wish you a restful night. 😴 Best regards 🤗 Werner

Is the brake Fans during taxi a company thing, or did you have high temps from the arrival.

With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice week!

Hello Cpt.
Thanks for the great and instructive answer. 👍
I'll try that in the simulator.
I was very happy about your answer.
I wish you a restful night. 😴
Best regards 🤗

Startup of the new engines takes soo long..
This is true! But I have no problems to accept it because they deliver a much better inflight performance and save lots of fuel and emissions.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos why does it take so long though, compared to the old generation?
Sehr cooles Video Captain! Welchen Oldtimer würdest Du gerne mal fliegen?
Viel Spaß und gute take off wünsche ich Captain!
