    Hello Cpt.
    Can I say Stefan?
    I'm thrilled about this beautiful approach video to the 06L from PMI. 👌👍
    I worked there for a few years.
    By the way, your landing after 6 years with the A321 was wonderful! 🏆
    It has to be said that you have the feeling for your work and the plane!
    Super nice shots of the machine and you two during the approach and at the end of the video!
    I'm looking forward to the next video!
    With that in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice weekend!
    Kind regards from Styria 🤗

      thank you so much for being a loyal subscriber of the channel!
      Working at Mallorca Island must be a very nice experience. I assume that you must have had much better weather in Mallorca than in Styria.

    Wie immer ein tolles Video. Ist und bleibt micht selbstverständlich, was uns hier geboten wird. Vielen Dank!

      Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und das detaillierte Feedback zum A321! Wir schauen uns vor Beginn der Beladung die Ladeplanung an und rechnen mit den aktuellen Sprit-, Passagier- und Kofferzahlen, ob alles passt. Eventuell notwendige Änderungen an der Ladeplanung definieren wir bevor die Beladung beginnt. Dann gibt es keine Probleme und nichts muss umgeladen werden.

    I love your videos. That one is great as always. But there is one thing I didn't understand: at 09:25 ATC gave you a 190kt restriction. ATC never released that but you ruduced the speed (of course). When are you allowed to do so?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching, your good feedback and your question! In general, you are correct. The instructed speed is usually valid until a new speed is instructed or ATC tells us to fly our own speed. Here we kept the 190 knots as long as possible and then we reduced to final approach speed. ATC knows that we cannot land with 190 knots and that we have to reduce the speed further. If they want us nonstandard to keep a certain speed until a certain distance from the runway, they would tell us exactly. There was also traffic ahead of us. Sometimes we tell ATC that we start reducing the speed. Or we ask until when they want us to keep the speed.

Being a recreational pilot (PPL-A) using the A320 since many years in flight simulators it is always a very welcome source of information about speed management and flows. I'd very much like to have some insight of the turnaround phase though, especially when there's delays, slots or other nuisances. But anyway: thanks a ton!

    Hello Captain, great video! May I ask you what the VLS Check is? Thank you very much for your videos, please keep going!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      During the VLS check, we compare the VLS (lowest selectable speed) from the MCDU with the VLS on the PFD (primary flight display). Both are calculated independently. The VLS from the MCDU is calculated on the basis of our entered ZFW (weight without fuel) from the load sheet plus the remaining fuel. The VLS on the PFD is calculated on the basis aerodynamic data (angle of attack), the remaining fuel and our entered CG. If the PFD VLS is higher than the MCDU VLS, we add the difference to the approach speed in the MCDU.

      During the VLS check we compare the VLS on the MCDU with the VLS on the PFD. The VLS on the PFD is calculated on the basis of aerodynamical data (angle of attack ...) and our entered CG. The VLS on the MCDU is calculated on the basis of the entered loadsheet data. If the PFD VLS is higher, we add the difference to the approach speed in the MCDU.

    Dear Stefan, nice approach and landing as usual, great CRM! One general question regarding landing technique and flare on A321: is it needed for PF to check pitch during flare on PFD because of tailstrike risk? Or is it PM duty to advise when pitch being near to limits? Thanks and all the best for you, have a nice weekend!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +5

      Thanks for watching and for your kind words! The Airbus SOP requires the pilot monitoring to check the pitch attitude during the landing and to call "pitch pitch" if the pitch attitude reaches 7.5 degrees for the Airbus A321 and when reaching 10 degrees for the Airbus A319 and A320. Depending on the software status: If a tailstrike prevention system is installed, the Airbus may do a "pitch" autocallout at the mentioned values or when the pitch rate is very high, even below the values.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Instead of a standard arrival routing, we got a clearance direct to a waypoint close to the final approach. This eliminated the arrival routing and kept us over water for most of the approach.

  • @theaeronauticsfanboy7996

    hi amazing video one question why was the managed descent not used and open descent instead

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and your good feedback! A few minutes before the video starts, we got the clearance with a good shortcut direct to ADX. This skipped the whole arrival route and made the flight way shorter than planned. The result was that we were several thousand feet above the precalculated idle descent path. To get rid of the altitude, we increased the speed and changed to open descent. A managed descent was not sufficient because (without changing the cost index), the maximum speed in the managed descent speed window would have still kept us above the descent path. If we are too high, the smatest method to come back to the path is always to increase the airspeed with idle power and no speedbrake use. Sometimes, we can not do that because ATC wants us to fly a certain speed. Or, below 10,000 feet, we want fo fly not faster than 250 knots.

      This is the transition between landing speed and taxi speed. In general, we do not want to taxi faster than 30 knots. At the beginning of the high speed turn off, we may be still a little faster than taxi speed, something like 45 knots or so. It will not take long until we reach taxi speed.

    Hey! Really nice landing again! In those heavy a321 if you need to use spoilers but the VLS is above the VFE for the next flap setting you would require to retract them a bit right? That might be a little bit of a pain if you need to slow down. Anyways, have a great week!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes, you are correct. Slowing down sometimes is a little tricky. Retracting the spoilers may be needed before extending the flaps. The same can happen with the Airbus A320. Have a nice day!

    Ein tolles Video, wie immer. Eine altes Airbus Sprichwort sagt ja auch: A321 fliegen ist wie Fahrradfahren, das kann man nicht verlernen :) Aber, mal abgesehen von der Länge und der Beachtung dieser bei Start und Landung, fühlt sich der Flieger auch anders an, oder wird das durch das FBW bei der gesamten A320 Familie nivelliert und macht keinen Unterschied? Der 321 ist ja länger und schwerer, und müsste somit ja auch mehr Massenträgheit haben.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Danke fürs Anschauen und das gute Feedback! Der A321 hat mehr Masse und ist dadurch etwas träger. Das merkt man auch bei der Steuerung. Insbesondere bei der Landung muss man die Sinkrate etwas früher brechen als bei einem A320 oder A319. Dafür liegt er stabiler in der Luft und ist weniger empfindlich für Seitenwind.

    Hallo Stefan, wie sind es ja gewöhnt jeden mit Vornamen anzusprechen, auf jeden Fall in meiner geliebten Heimat Florida. Vielleicht ist dir ja Melbourne, Fl. bekannt, vielleicht sogar der kleine Flughafen Merritt Island bei Cape Canaveral, von dort aus sind wir oft nach Lakeland zum Frühstück geflogen. Jetzt fliege ich mit dir nach Mallorca 😄. Viele Jahre bin ich mit Air Berlin geflogen, von MCO nach Düsseldorf, leider hat man die auch in den Bankrott gewirtschaftet. Danke für das interessante Video.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  3 місяці тому

      Vielen Dank fürs sehr persönliche Feedback! Klar kenne ich den Merritt Island Airport (KCOI). Dort waren wir auch schon einmal und wir sind dann mit Klapprädern in die Stadt gefahren. Jekyll Island in Georgia ist mein Lieblingsflughafen an der südlichen Ostküste der USA. In Florida gefällt mit auch Cedar Key and der Golfküste ganz gut. Dort kann man gut in die Stadt laufen oder per Klapprad hinfahren. Mit dem Leihkanu geht es dann zu den vorgelagerten Inseln. Ich finde es sehr schade, dass es keine Verbindung mehr von DUS nach MCO oder zu anderen Destinationen in Florida gibt. Ich bin mir sicher, dass die Nachfrage immer noch sehr groß wäre.

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos Zuerst einmal vielen Dank für ihre nette Antwort. Dann ist mir die Nacht etwas eingefallen, wie wäre es, wenn sie sich mit anderen Kollegen zusammen tun und selbst ein Flugzeug kaufen und wieder von DUS nach MCO oder MIA fliegen. Ich würde sofort mit fliegen. Ich weiß es ist nicht leicht, aber machbar!!!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  3 місяці тому

      Super Idee! Passagiere würde es bestimmt sofort reichlich geben. Wenn man mit einem Flugzeug anfängt, das jeden Tag nach Florida abwechselnd nach Orlando, Miami, Fort Meyers, Tampa ... fliegt, wäre es meiner Meinung nach sehr gut gebucht.. All die Passagiere, die früher jeden Tag mehr als 10 Langstreckenflugzeuge von Düsseldorf gefüllt haben, sind ja nicht weg. Sie fliegen nur nun (zwangsweise) von anderen Flughäfen oder steigen irgendwo um. Leider ist die Gründung einer Airline extrem teuer. Es gibt ja den Spruch, wie man ein kleines Vermögen machen kann. Indem man vorher ein großes hat und eine Airline gründet. Ein anderes Problem ist, dass es Airlines geben wird, die das nicht gut finden würden und plötzlich dann auch von Düsseldorf Langstrecke fliegen, bis die neue Airline wieder vom Markt verschwindet. Man kann mit einer Neugründung nur verlieren. Besser ist die Hoffnung, dass Lufthansa selbst, Discover, Condor oder eine der amerikanischen Airlines bald wieder von Düsseldorf in die USA fliegen wird.

    Which do you prefer flying out of the airbus, the 319, 320 or the 321?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Good question! I like the A320 NEO and the A321 NEO most. Next would be the A321 CEO, then the A320 CEO and at the end the A319. This is my general preference. If we have to fly to very short runways, I - for sure - prefer the A319 because of the short landing distance.

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos so what is the difference between the neo and the ceo?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      @@godfreyduncan7783The NEO has much better engines. They produce less emissions and noise, need way less fuel and have a much better performance than the CEO.

    Very nice landing. Does your company have any procedure on suddenly switching from 320 to 321? Anything special?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching, your good feedback and the question! The A320 family has a common type rating. In general, a pilot can fly A318 to A321. Before flying the "real airplane" the pilots have to do a difference training which points out the differences between the variants. Also flight safety training is required for each of the different variants because they have different door types, slides, emergency equipment locations ..... Once a pilot did all the training and did the required test, she or he can fly the different variants. The same is true for the Airbus NEO airplanes. Everybody has to learn and understand the differences between CEO and NEO before the first flight.

    Hey
    Can I have an explination on VLS add, how do you calculate that knots in plus? Thank you in advice. Fly safe!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      We compare the VLS from the MCDU, which is calculated on the basis of the data from the loadsheet and the actual fuel, with the VLS on the PFD which is calculated by the FAC on the basis of aerodynamical data (angle of attack ...) and our entered CG. If the VLS on the PFD is higher, we add the difference to the approach speed in the MCDU.

    Can you feel it on the sidestick, that is an A321🤔😊

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      The sidestick feels the same like A319 or A320 because it has no mechanical connection to the flight controls. The plane is more stable in the air and it takes a little more time to change the attitude because of the additional weight. Especially during the flare, the input to reduce the descent rate needs to be done earlier than on the A319 or A321.

    Hallo Herr Buntenbach, hat doch trotz 6 jähriger Unterbrechung bestens geklappt.😀 Schöner Anflug auf das 17te Bundesland, wobei die Insel viel mehr zu bieten hat, als nur die Partytouristenmeile. Wie lange ist denn die Turnaround Time on Ground und welche Flüge kamen an diesem Tag noch (Wenn diese Frage okay ist)?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

      Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen, die finanzielle Unterstützung des Kanals als Mitglied und das gute Feedback! Finde ich auch. Nach etlichen Jahren nur A319 und A320 hat es gut geklappt. Allerdings habe ich den A321 damals sehr häufig geflogen. Da kommen schon einige tausend Stunden zusammen. Mallorca ist eine tolle Insel: Da gibt es alles nahe beieinander: Party, Sport, Strand, Berge, schöne, kleine Dörfer und nette Menschen. Wie lange der Turnaround beim A321 dauert, hängt auch von der Infrastruktur des Flughafens ab. 50 Minuten bis eine Stunde passen ganz gut. Wer noch an dem Tag auf Mallorca ankam, weiß ich nicht im Detail. Der Flug fand kürzlich am Morgen statt. Die Verkehrslage insgesamt war ruhig zu unserer Ankunftszeit. Alle paar Minuten startete und landete ein Flugzeug. Allerdings gab es weder einen Rückstau am Boden, noch in der Luft. Einen schönen Tag noch!
