Agreed! I sent a complaint about two months ago. Seriously, it's so bad I'll open a video, and in that, like 20-40 minute video, I'm trying to find another one to watch after, and it often takes me longer to find another video I want to watch than watching the video I'm trying to watch lol currently 😂
@@CalDeanOffical Same same, i've gone through multiple 20 minute videos (that i wasn't really interested in, just ones i could tolerate), just trying to find a single video that I want to watch.
@@lexirandall-m4rmeh, most people who try to study UA-cam are in a circular battle because they are still in their google account. I watch UA-cam with a few devices in different locations, and i watch videos from around the world. The trending page looks nothing like how it does in this video.
@@TheQuota2001I have the same top video and the #2 and 3 videos he mentioned are still there, I also see a bunch of the same shorts. I feel certain that I would watch very different videos from d’angelo (I mostly watch gaming stuff, which includes far too much hermitcraft) Edit: also if the youtube algorithm affects the trending page beyond language doesn’t that defeat the point of a trending page?
It literally just plays Mad Libs with existing video titles lol. "Andrew Tate's Descent into Madness" or whatever becomes the same thing but with any random person replacing the original person. With zero justification or basis to go off of---if anything, creators are hoping to make videos about things they can go research, but if half their research becomes checking to see if the prompts suggested to them have any standing in reality, then the prompt generation tool isn't actually solving any productivity woes here.
UA-cam promotes too many bro-tivities. Trying to find girly things is getting more and more difficult. Plus, the algorithm WILL NOT STOP suggesting videos it's already suggested 18 billion damn times
I'm more surprised by y'all using the trending page...I've never used that to know what's up. I just open UA-cam,see my favorite content creators and click on the one I wanna watch first...and yes, this is one of those videos

I didn’t wanna believe it at first but yeah I think Jack’s right about this one, Mrbeast’s content, while great, represent one of the worst sides of youtube in my opinion
Back in 2016/2017 I used to check the trending page daily. Getting on trending was like a big deal back then. Also if anything big was happening, it'd always be on trending
I haven't even taken a look at the trending page in ages. Before I used to check it every once in a while, but it seemed to be targeted to 12 y/o boys, so there was no point ever checking back.
I hate to tell you this but the Serro Gordo guy is systematically destructive an historic site through sheer unbridled idiocy. He’s not a historian, he’s not an archeologist. He’s already burned down the 19th c grand hotel because he was trying to live in it. Now he’s building some modern monstrosity on the footprint. His greatest sin (besides idiocy) is he’s very bad with managing money. He’s been crowdsourcing for ages and all he’s doing is taking money to destroy history. His idea of preservation comes at the expense of the artifacts and history.
Yep. Maggie Mae Fish did a whole section on him in her off-grid grifter video a year ago. Maybe he got better, but i'm not holding my breath. ua-cam.com/video/EIcnCaVsYFI/v-deo.htmlsi=_dh6ILC9ydVCpyxn&t=740
Holy shit. This is horrendous, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of his actions. Of course idk all the info but this is something that should really be talked in media. Has he gotten in trouble w/ the parks and rec of California or something?
@@ispapaya234 IDK if the place is on the historic register or not. I think "no" otherwise he'd be in more trouble. As I understand it, he is attempting to personally finance the restoration of the historic ghost down via Go Fund Me. Which okay sure, that sounds good and noble and all. I do believe his heart is in the right place. However, as mentioned, he is neither a historian nor an archeologist. It should also be stressed that he doesn't know beans about construction either. In trying to restore a late 19th town with little more than set of Bob Vila "How To" books and a box full of tools, he took on this project with gusto, good will, and very little knowledge. I would love to see someone intervene and help him properly preserve the historic site. His idea of "preservation" is to make all the buildings habitable again- which is not possible- and turn the place into a functioning tourist site complete with hotel and amusements. Again, not a Bad Idea in and of itself, but the execution is severely lacking. He needs to leave the antique buildings ALONE and build his mini Vegas adjacent thereto.
@@TheQuota2001exactly. No emotions. That means it, specifically generative AI, should not be used for things that require emotions to make. Like a proper, well-informed video about an abuse victim. Okay same though! Any video I watch it'll just show me 8376 from that creator and nothing I've watched prior, no videos from people I'm subbed to. Just in the past couple months. So weird
They're low-key hiding it. Like, you can't access it from your phone, and when I go into private, there's nothing at all. I'm not sure why it's even there anymore tbh
Honestly, my sheer disappointment when you clicked on the wooden bench video and he did a Mr. Beast intro cannot be measured. That is 100% my type of content but I would click on it and immediately click out from the intro. And maybe that voice and stuff tapers off, but the initial intro being sooo... Mr beast like just makes me not want to watch.
It's honestly a bit overstimulating 😭 I was never a big fan or hater of Jimmy until recently - clocking in as a full on hater now lmfao - but his intros are like....a lot. I can't watch videos with that kind of format. Like why are you yelling at me and flashing lights in my face??
Yeah I used to watch John Malecki (or h/e you spell it) but his content transformed very much into overstimulating slop as he got more views so I lost interest over time. His uncut channel is a bit better.
I'm a huge fan of Drawfee, it's a group of artists that do really fun (and often dumb) drawing challenges. Always a great watch, they're all so supportive of each other and don't take anything too seriously
Been watching drawfee for a good three years now, helped me improve my art so much and their energy is so positive and their videos r so funny 100% agree
Mr. Wallace, why haven’t you responded to my Canvas message? I’ve been working on my presentation for fiber optical illusions for three weeks now, and while I think I’ve produced some promising work, I’m in much need of feedback. I don’t want to drop out of this very real university, but this lack of communication is concerning, especially from you, my professor. Kind regards, a neglected student
He posted a class reply I think on the class page, since he wanted to use your question as an example. I really like your topic, I never thought to question that as the optic fiber gets wider in design, does it stop being fiber optic illusions and become light illusions? The real questions honestly. Edit: No Mr. Wallace, I didn't just post this for class participation points this time, I really want to know. Totally legit question.

there were exactly four women on the entire trending page lmao. "kamala harris", the family channel lady, Billie Eilish, and the gymnastics girl. every single other person was a dude. not sure why some of the mr. beast clone spots couldn't be replaced with typically more feminine niches (fashion, academics, asmr, etc...)
Premodernist and Mr. Beat (Not a typo!) are history professors turned youtubers that present information in really engaging ways! Love clicking them to listen to while cleaning my room or something
Also if people haven't watched Crash Course, their educational videos are great! They stopped, I believe, but the old back catalogue is still out there
I honestly don't think most people who post to or regularly watch UA-cam use it much? It's been considered garbage for years, as far as I can remember. (The Mr.-Beast-ification effect is real, though.)
Fairbairn Films for aussie skit content Daniel Thrasher for clever music-based skits Mykie used to do amazing SFX makeup /cosplay and now does ghost hunting videos absolutely agree with brian david gilbert, he's amazing and I really enjoy Jamie French for her commentary videos, she's funny

@@kanjonojigoku8644 Yeaaa 😅 Those are the type of videos that gets recommended to me and I have to keep clicking “I’m not interested”. So tiring to hear negativity 😭
Unfortunately the guy who made the ghost town video is a rich man ruining a historic site to build tourist attractions and sell things he finds in the mines Edit: Ty for reminding me the video I learned this from is by Maggie Mae Fish “Off the grid but in on the grift”
Thank you for summing it up, i wanted to say this in response to another comment but i cant word well right now This land was not cheap One of the old buildings "burned down" whether though negligence or for an insurance claim lol I cannot be sure He has a board of investors on this project He is very wealthy himself iirc This is not the narrative he sells about the project, he puts forward a vague warm fuzzy spiel about how he was just a guy with some dollars and a dream and he "pooled money w a friend" or something to buy this place The whole channel is a slow burn ad to garner future business for his bougie tourist trap wonderland afaik Finding all that out made me sad too
Also another thing is music. I don't use many other apps or websites. Mainly stick to UA-cam. So I've been using UA-cam for listening to music for decades now. And even like 3 or 4 years ago, I could find so many new and good music through recommendations. But now there's almost no new suggestions when you click on a music video. I don't know what happen, but UA-cam's algorithm doesn't even suggest related videos, let alone good ones. Now I have to literally manually search for to find something.
this! I feel like 99% of the time im just listening to the same 4 artists over and over again. occasionally find one or two new songs i enjoy but they rarely ever come from the recommendations/algorithm itself
@@momi8604 Exactly! Like what happened? I don't think there's even an algorithm active at this point. At least not so that people can find things easily anymore.
Yes! I was wondering if other people were experiencing this, I used to use the auto generated mix playlists youtube would make for music as the playlists I have are just a random assortment of music I like and the auto generated ones would recommend music based on whatever video the playlist started with, like it would put stuff in the playlist based on genre or the artist or what other people who also listen to that song listen to, but now it just recommends things i regularly listen to or not even things I've listened to a lot just anything I've listened to that was popular, for example: I like to listen to kirby music, previously when I listened to music from kirby and used the auto generated playlist it would only recommend me more kirby music, like if it was planet robobot music it would mostly just recommend things from that with music from other kirby games sprinkled in and it would take a while for it to recommend different things, now when I try to use it it immediately shows things entirely unrelated to kirby. It drives me nuts as wherever I listen to music I'm normally in the mood for a certain kind of music and playing a sad song, wanting to listen to more sad songs once to immediately be greeted with eurobeat is not a pleasant experience If anyone can tell me how to fix this, or at least make it more bearable, it would be greatly appreciated
It depends, I just recently found a few new (to me) musicians and love it! But somehow certain videos/musicians will always lead to the same other few musicians. Really weird
Ann Reardon's How to Cook That is honestly just such a refreshing channel that completely contradicts the Mr Beast formula content. Educational, fun, interesting, and often times calling out and debunking the very same topics covered in this video. She is amazing, from her cake rescues, to trying ancient recipes, to debunking internet hacks.
3:15 Nah I used to think I "just didn't get SNL," but I lost all respect for them when they dropped that Try Guys skit. Now I don't feel bad for not finding the show funny
@@mhok4879 Dunno how much you know about the Try Guys drama, so I'll just go into everything briefly. After it came to light that Ned was cheating on his wife with an employee of the Try Guys company (making it an HR nightmare, and a potential lawsuit), Eugene, Zach and Keith made a video to talk about the situation, and what they would do to hold Ned accountable. SNL made a skit with three guys on a couch making fun of them and the media attention the original video got. The skit tried to make it sound as if the Try Guys were being way too dramatic about the situation, and it downplayed the damage Ned did. After the skit aired, it turned out that it was written by one of Ned's buddiest from Yale. Also, it's unsurprising that SNL thought this was funny content to make considering how many sexual misconduct allegations there were about their company.
Its definitely not chance that you're trending, u get name dropped by half the other creators i watch. You seem to be where THEY get content to talk about because they always touch on a subject dorectly after u. Just saying. Youre some of my favorite UA-camrs favorite youtuber! 😂 We all adore you
I feel like it used to be “Crikital talked about this subject” and now it’s “hey I saw D’Angelo spoke about this” and I couldn’t be happier about it. No hate to Charlie but it’s D’Angelo’s day now.
@@OncleClara idk Charlie has always just given me a weird vibe. it also doesn't help that he throws the R-word around without a thought, which is offensive to me. and his reaction to the whole iDubbbz thing was just kinda ew. I liked some of his content though, but I don't watch him anymore. Much prefer D'Angelo
Oh ! One more thing! On the note of cringey thumbnails, at least on mobile, youtube is doing this terrible thing where you can't even scroll to look at and READ the thumbnail for 3 seconds before the video starts autoplaying on the home page, so you may as well treat the first 3-5 seconds of your video like the thumbnail now. I don't like this update/feature, but it will be interesting to see how UA-camrs adapt. Personally i findnit torturous for my attention span and decision making ability, which is probably the point of the change, and i find it agressive and unpleasant to the point of considering spending less time on youtube. It makes the explore/home page almost unusable and i retreat to the only safe area: watch later playlist, to actually pick what to watch, because i don't want to give watchtime seconds to bad actors accidentally.
Not a new feature and as other reply said - you can disable it! Personally I liked it since so many thumbnails are bait, so I could go by title or that second preview and read the captions of what a video is about (iirc there were captions?) before clicking in. Disliked how it was clogging up my Watch History with things i scrolled past tho, so i disabled it a bit ago
I’m very much into the costuber community: Abby Cox, Bernadette Banner, Rachel Maksy, Nicole Rudolph… they usually make pretty laidback/informative content or (in Rachel’s case) makin’ lil’ guys.
The best thing we can do is curate playlists of creators we like and wanna see get big and only interact with content we want to see more of. It's the only language the AI can speak.
(Brief feelings-dumping/TMI ahead) Especially since both the streamers whose VODs I started watching, turned out to be ("alleged") sex pests within the space of just a few months! Not to be parasocial, but it's hard to let myself get attached to anyone's content, because I keep periodically wondering if and when they'll be exposed as a creep, too. (Even aside from ethical concerns... even if I could separate the art from the artist, so to speak, these people went from talking about consent, and doing deep dives on predatory creators or pundits, politicians, celebrities, etc, to being exposed as allegedly predatory themselves. How are you supposed to trust anything they say after learning that about them?) ... Anyway yeah, I feel like there's way fewer people to watch than there used to be, for multiple reasons, and UA-cam has also gotten less usable.
@sholem_bond Very valid point. I do see a good amount of correlation between people who don't make content off of drama or looks and having extremely low controversy rates, like chill history and science channels.
I love watching Miniminuteman's video's so much. He does archeology videos and debunks a lot of conspiracy theories about archeology and he has really fun energy.
I don't believe it was on purpose. It was in the process of being restored, and it caught fire in the night from an electrical issue. It was kind of heartbreaking.
Like, I check on that channel periodically to make sure he's still alive because he doesn't often know what he's doing, but I don't think it's a grift; I think it's just dangerous to do some of that stuff without knowing what you're doing.
@@champagnehand - He had spoken about how the building wasn't in good condition but was protected, and his whole business plan revolved around the hotel, so it sounds super likely that it wasn't accidental.
speaking of subtitles though: thank you for having captions on your videos!! they're v helpful and I really appreciate that they're not auto-generated so they're actually correct!!
I love watching this guy named D’Angelo Wallace , he’s smart, funny, sarcastic and sooo down to earth! And his fashion sense is impeccable. There will soon be a D’Angeloification of UA-cam 😂
Sometimes I watch Midwest Magic Cleaning! It's about this guy who cleans out hoarder houses and talks about how hoarding disorders can develop and also how to clean on a budget. It's super satisfying for me to watch someone clear out a room full of junk and leave it nearly spotless
Aurikatariina is a similar channel of cleaning hoarder houses for free! She also tells the client's story so respectfully, Auri is just the sweetest and her cleaning is so satisfying.
I love Izzzyzzz and Sakura Stardust right now. Love watching video essays about random internet mysteries, video games, or something else that I've never heard of but they're obviously interested in. I really enjoy blameitonjorge and kylie boggly for simila reasons, but they tend to do more lost media subjects. Anyway, you know that one meme of a guy saying "sorry babe, not tonight. a UA-camr just uploaded a 5 hour video essay about a subject I've never heard of"? That's me
i love izzzyzzz!! her makeup always makes her videos more interesting to watch imho, it gives visual appeal without being overstimulating like those kids videos where saturation is turned up 50%
I want to recommend Ray Mona and her deep dives into lost media, because she's done so much, and the editing is great. She made a long series of videos on the tentative to adapt anime to American audiences (including a cartoon and a live action version of Saint Seiya).
manlybadasshero is a great channel if you enjoy horror game playthroughs without annoying over the top reactions. not to mention he usually makes sure to play games fully through and get all endings
the guy at 20:52 is a an investment banker trying to create lore for his "Ghost town" to drive more tourism dollars to his investors. wish i was joking but D'Angelo do a deep dive
Yes, and since D’Angelo asked, Maggie Mae Fish (who has an awesome channel) made a video on it. ua-cam.com/video/EIcnCaVsYFI/v-deo.htmlsi=sotLLi2HKcoh_E6_
20:32 The “4.5 Years Living In An Abandoned Ghost Town” is actually covered in a video by Maggie Mae Fish called “Off the grid, but in on the Grift” where she, to put it lightly, critiques the guy. Needless to say I like Maggie May Fish as a UA-camr 🫶
How so? I've watched the channel for over a year and this is the first I'm hearing of it. And I'm being sincere in asking. If he is a grifter, I want to know. Mostly i've seen him preserving the town (like rebuilding the hotel that burned down etc).
i've been an absolute sucker for the Dan and Phil revival, i remember watching them as a teen and then being so excited to see them making stuff again, and their content is somehow even better to me now!! they're still so fun and nostalgic but they also seem more relaxed and mature and it feels like old friends who all did some growing up together (in the least parasocially weird way possible)
Babish and Claire have been like a bastion amongst the Mr Beastification of youtube food videos. They have been doing the same thing for years and people still love it. Not to miss Joshua Wiseman, but my god I can't watch him anymore, every video feels fake and it's just not fun anymore
"'You Belong With Me'" is about a controlling relationgship" Actually I'm pretty sure the entire point of the song is that there *is* no relationship 💀 Also the idea that tim mcgraw was about being obsessed with tim mcgraw is kinda funny lmao
D'Angelo! If you like hearing about something that someone's super passionate about, even if it's not your thing, I highly reccomend Defunctland! (I know the odds of this ever being seen are incredibly low, but still feel it's worth promoting Defuctland because ever video is a *masterpeice*)
Drawfee! Maggie Mae Fish, Shanspere, Jessie Gender, Jessica Fozzen-Kelgard (don't think I'm spelling that right), F.D. Signifier, Foreign Man in a Foreign Land, Amanda the Jedi, Casually Comics, Rachel Maksy... I'll stop now 😅
I love watching LilSimsie, Sad Boyz (Jarvis Johnson + Jordan Adika), LegalEagle, Kurtis Conner, Kuncan Dastner, Kenny J.D., Haley Elizabeth, my fav D'Angelo ❤️, and so many more commentary youtubers. Y'all really get me through the day :)
Highly recommend nisipisa: all her videos are an absolute delight (because she herself is a delight) but would recommend first her window shopping videos, where she scrolls through all the ugliest clothes available on shein, cider, etc. Strange Aeons is another good one that comes to mind: she’s the “tumblr historian” which is very fun if you were ever a tumblr kid like me
Defunctland. I dont even like Disneyland that much 😅 Also his video about trying to find who made the Disney channel theme song brought me to actual tears ( seriously its stunning work )
I love UA-camrs that go into obscure rabbit holes, like Wendigoon, Oki’s Weird Stories, Fredrik Knudsen, Lemmino, ScareTheater, etc. long form content of fascinating topics and straight up, clean presentation format without the exhausting editing is honestly so good
It’s crazy bc the conversation around UA-cam promoting TV clips (especially late night shows) rather than creators has been going on for AGES. I remember Jenna Marbles and Julien talking about it on their podcast in like 2016/2018 and the main theory was that UA-cam was gonna start TV broadcasting (which…..yeah). It’s kinda crazy that the convo is still continuing even if at a lesser level as a lot of UA-camrs were kinda freaking out
Scott Cramer is one of my favs!! He's a Midwestern dad who makes videos ab all sorts of stuff from local fairs to old game shows, and he often gets his family involved too! One thing I've noticed scrolling thru UA-cam is how negative nearly every video title is and his videos are so refreshingly positive and upbeat, I'd highly recommend
some of my favourite non-commentary non-beastified youtube channels: STRANGE ÆONS (snarky lesbian takes deep dives into tumblr lore) Mercury Stardust (renter-friendly home repair/maintenance tutorials & sincere encouragement from the trans handy-ma'am) Emily the Engineer (just a gal with great sense of humour making crazy things with her 3d printer) Technology Connections (hands-down the most helpful, informative, fun videos about how all kinds of gadgets and household appliances work) Stuff Made Here (unhinged projects and a good time) blumineck (extremely cool mashup of archery, pole dancing, high heels, and dnd) Leafy Street (just some guy making humourous video content about his reptile pets) Sage the Bad Naturalist (funny nature shorts and short videos) Clint's Reptiles (fascinating reptile education and discussions) Snake Discovery (snake babies hatching) Walk East (long walks & drives through various cities in china)

I can’t help but notice that a lot of the stuff from the AI suggestion feature is mostly content targeted at women. I wonder if that’s channel specific
12:40 You joke, but if instead of being a mr beast clone video for children, this was a 4 hour long video essay titled "100 years of toys: a retrospective" I'd be like. "Yeah man" and watch it over the next few days lol
I know, I got my new email account for college this year, opened UA-cam to find a math help video, and got instantly jumpscared by a page full of Mr. Beast and politics
I can't imagine having to make a new account when I have had to curate this one for years 😭 terrifying Forcing the algorithm in the direction you want it in, ONLY being able to click on videos or watch a few seconds of videos you actually like, making playlists and adding to them, liking, liking, liking, subscribing... I have just horrified myself
My personal recommendations from youtubers i watch: Miniminutemen: he used to just be a tiktok guy putting out debunking videos for conspiracy shorts, and he still makes those, but he also puts out some really interesting vids highlighting historical sites. Pete beard: mini-docs showcasing artists from the "golden age of illustration" (late 1800s-1950s). Some really high quality stuff put out on a weekly basis Jerkcomic: really in depth multi-part documentaries about comic book artists from the 90s, plus some lesser known comic books from that era, plus interviews. Really underrated dude for the quality of content he uploads
FKA Twigs' victim blaming was definitely upsetting.. Is the AI company being paid off by Shia LeBouef or something? What grimy corners of the internet is it drawing data from?? But also just imagine how FKA Twigs kids feel about this 😤😡... 😂
@@stephe1506a lot of ai is bigotted, because it's trained on humans many of which is bigotted. It could of picked up things from other similar cases (maybe why it mentions children) or picked up people victim blaming twigs specifically
Relieved that D’Angelo intends to never upload an animorphs thumbnail. One of the million reasons why I like his videos and not Mr Beast’s or any of his clones. I prefer real over fake crap.
Jacob Geller - He makes very engaging yet informative video esseys on horror related topics. My favorites are "Head transplants and non-existence of soul" and "Fear of Cold".
20:24 GOD I WISH I KNEW. every content type from youtube that I watch has slowly devolved into this and I cant stand it. Everything is so hyper focused and loud that it doesnt feel human anymore. It was nostalgic to do that back when youtube was young but with the prevalence of AI and algorithm "meta" (cant believe i just said that), it feels cursed to see content edited and published like this do well and be really popular. Feels so backwards man.
It’s all a bit frustrating. I’ve watched the guys in those videos (the pokemon one) on and off for a few years now as part of my “braindead content”, and the amount of hyperediting has increased SO MUCH. I get why they do it, I really do. It’s repetitive content for the algorithm and it WORKS, but god do I wish that it was waaaaay toned down. It’s so much more watchable when the editing is normal.
for videos i never thought id be interested in but capture my brain entirely, Moonlight Jewel has a lovely bunch of videos where she builds dolls, and it’s just. so mesmerizing. and her positive attitude is absolutely infectious. also, i’m seeing most of my faves mentioned already, but on the off chance these channels aren’t getting mentioned bc people haven’t seen them (and not because they assume everyone already knows): my go-to longform channels are hbomberguy, jenny nicholson, and quinton reviews. i watch each video at least once with my full attention on the screen, and then again while drawing or doing something else.
I love moonlight jewel too!! 👽💖 Her videos, as well as Hextian and Dollightful are fun refreshers to come back to every once in a while as you're working on an art project or smth.
I like Michael Reeves videos because they are interesting and yeah sometimes it kind of has mr beast type editing sometimes, but I find what he does (engineering/coding) and creates really interesting and his humor is cool too
Handful of channel recs for others browsing comments: • Fascinating Horror (Covers variety of “things that went wrong” instances in history and sometimes more recent years. Often a focus on how an event changed regulations on things going forward. Under 20min long content ~10min iirc) • Colleen’s Manga Recs ( self explanatory lmao but nice amount of shoujo related videos. Always sounds passionate about the topic theyre covering) • Emma in the Moment (Knitting content. I don’t knit or have an interest in learning but ??? Knitting drama is fun to listen to.) • Amanda the Jedi (movie reviews/ movie commentary? Appreciate how she’s been recommending movies she does enjoy while covering “bad”movies ) • Silly Potato (cool pixel art) *edit for spelling + additional comment
I have old JonTron videos downloaded and I still sometimes watch them. I don't know if it's the nostalgia but I still find them funny. I tried downloading a few of his new videos so I could watch them without giving him views, but they hit different now that I know he's a flagrant racist. I think I'm still living in the delusion that there was a time "before" he was racist and he was funny back then.
It's genuinely so fucking unfortunate. He's a really funny guy with an awesome team but holy shit dude. I can't bring myself to watch his stuff anymore tbh. I feel like it's also lost a LOT of personality too that it had back like 7+ years ago.
Same, JonTron was my favorite UA-camr. His white replacement theory rant and subsequent “apology” didn’t leave any room for me to view him in the same light unfortunately. It’s wild that people still defend him and claim that it somehow hurt his career when bro still trends on the regular.
My fave youtuber atm is Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't. Weirdly calming to watch, even though he talks in a Chicago yelly voice, it's out of genuine excitement. I crack up when he interrogates the wild life, but his genuine love of plants and in particular less charismatic native plants that most people wouldn't give a second glance, let alone wax poetic about, makes his channel a real treasure
I agree. I like plants anyway, but his enthusiasm is contagious and his information is intriguing. One of my favourites was him stomping around in the snow on some California mountains talking about the trees. Haven’t seen that in quite a while, maybe I’ll look for it. Also, the episode on the Chicago river with the giant snapping turtle was pretty good.
16:34 I'm biased, but driving 4 answers is an underrated UA-camr. He's wholesome, he makes retractions when he's wrong, and he's a good car technology communicator.
My current favorite youtuber (besides D'Angelo) is Ikoxun a fibre arts and sometimes gaming youtube. She's a gift to this world for having completely free patterns and video explanations!
So many amazing creators on here being eclipsed by generic click bait. I love to watch: D'Angelo Wallace for education, Luxeria for TV, Squirmy & Grubs for relationships, Jessica Kellgren-Fozard for queer history + Christmas, Jammidodger for memes, Cosmonaut Picture Show for movies, Xiran Jay Zhao for Chinese culture, Shanspeare for deep dives, Edvasian for viral nonsense ❤
yes yes yes luxeria is amazing!! probably my favourite youtuber. i especially love the 'gag of the millennial podcast' with roly and her antm reactions :)
Willie Muse is one of my favorite small UA-camrs. He's recently been commenting on weird movies. The real draw is his personality. He's super quirky and has a unique sense of humor that's refreshing and relatable.
I so feel that "useless information" crave. Have I ever played the card or video games, watched the anime or shown any sort of interest in any form of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise in my life? No. But did I watch a 3 hour documentary style video about how the tournament scene has developed over time, just because? Uh, YEAH.
Please please go watch these UA-camrs we love them so much (especially if you like people explaining random stuff to you) Li speaks - does girls internet nostalgia stuff (our favorite is the horse land and girls go games videos) Izzyzzz - does general internet nostalgia/history (our favorite is The Path episodes) Letsgameitout - plays games in the worst possible way (our favorite is the ones with grace in them) Overly sarcastic productions - explains mythology, classic literature, and popular writing tropes with fun drawings and snappy jokes (our favorite is the one on lovecraft) Segan hawkes - does creepy video game/arg essays (our favorite is the Off retrospective, the internet ghosts one, the haunted worlds one, and the one on unfictional people) Colin looks back- does retrospectives on vintage media (our favorite is the hour long video on chuck-e-cheese) Defunctland - does retrospectives on abandoned/destroyed/failed amusement parks and rides (our favorite is the one on the Disney channel theme, it made us cry) Dingodoodles - has a massive funny and hand-drawn DnD series (fool’s gold) Jenny Nicoleson - responsible for the massive vampire diaries video, generally talks about whatever she wants, we love her dearly/p (our favorite is the one about the star wars hotel and the blue avatar land) Lily Simpson - analyzes trans and/or genderbend episodes (our favorite is the 10 hour Harry Potter video and the psyche video) Notrealname notatall - explains fnaf stuff (our favorites are the ones about her beef with baby and the DCA ones) Sarah Z - talks about fandom history (our favorite is her homestuck video) Savantics - talks about whatever, usually involving some weird thing happening on the internet (our favorite is the one about the mlp hypnosis) Sideways - talks about music stuff, he’s really really funny and so underrated (our favorite is the one about why church organs are scary, the one about Cats, and the one about les misrables) Strange aeons - chaotic tumblr gremlin (our favorite is the oral history of dashcon and the muppet joker) Super eyepatch wolf - does essays on a bunch of different stuff, most lean towards creepy and eerie stuff (our favorite is the one on fake video games, the one on Nathan fielder)
Wow, you put a lot of thought into this list, I took a screenshot of everything and I can't wait to watch those I haven't heard of, especially because some of those UA-camrs I already know and love, so I'm guessing the other ones are great as well, thank you so much! Btw, I have a question and I hope it's not intrusive or anything like that, but I've noticed that you used the plural "us/we/our", and I usually don't see that, unless when it comes to people who have DID and alters, so I was wondering if it was because of that, or you're speaking on behalf of multiple people or something else maybe? Of course you don't have to answer and you can just ignore the question, I was just curious since it's not very often that I see people who use plural forms. But either way I just wanted to thank you for the list, I love great and extensive recommendations! And sorry for my grammar or any terms I misused, English isn't my native language Hope you have a great day! 🍀
My personal trending page is seeing D’Angelo back and seeming happy. Not running himself ragged chasing the long form content that first shot him to popularity, just having fun with it. And I truly hope he is as happy as he seems now.
Thank you! I have never understood snl...and my bar for humour is so low, like i fken love stupid Adam Sandler movies, I love local theater comedies etc. but I've never been able to connect with snl. Glad its not just me!
Nowadays I spent more time scrolling for a video I'm interested in than actually watching videos
A la Netflix. I agree.
Agreed! I sent a complaint about two months ago. Seriously, it's so bad I'll open a video, and in that, like 20-40 minute video, I'm trying to find another one to watch after, and it often takes me longer to find another video I want to watch than watching the video I'm trying to watch lol currently 😂

Edit: also if the youtube algorithm affects the trending page beyond language doesn’t that defeat the point of a trending page?
Still much better than Twitter though

Finding all that out made me sad too
Also another thing is music.
It drives me nuts as wherever I listen to music I'm normally in the mood for a certain kind of music and playing a sad song, wanting to listen to more sad songs once to immediately be greeted with eurobeat is not a pleasant experience
If anyone can tell me how to fix this, or at least make it more bearable, it would be greatly appreciated
It depends, I just recently found a few new (to me) musicians and love it! But somehow certain videos/musicians will always lead to the same other few musicians. Really weird

What try guys skit? May i ask what that was about☝🏻🤓? (Seriously tho)

You can turn that off in your settings! Go to settings -> general -> playback in feeds and you can turn it off! :D
Not a new feature and as other reply said - you can disable it!
Personally I liked it since so many thumbnails are bait, so I could go by title or that second preview and read the captions of what a video is about (iirc there were captions?) before clicking in.

How are you supposed to trust anything they say after learning that about them?)
New pipe
I love watching Miniminuteman's video's so much. He does archeology videos and debunks a lot of conspiracy theories about archeology and he has really fun energy.
Love him!
Also a fan!!!
He’s the freaking best! Hippie archeologist debunking crappy historical conspiracy theories. What more could you ask for!
9:50 D'Angelo predicting exactly what a video is like and then sitting there, unamused, as he's proven right is peak entertainment 😂
Didn't the ghost town guy at 20:35 purposefully burn down a historical building to then make a hotel on top of it?
It was a hotel before that as well. Just an old hotel. But i'm curious about hearing more about this? *goes googling*
Yes, Maggiemaefish had a great video on that guy
@@hnichole OOMGGGG U JUST GAVE ME A NEW CHANNEL TO WATCH!!!! TYSM ♡ 🥹
Most niche? Royalty Soaps. Handcrafted, cold process soap artist in Texas.
Love Royalty Soaps!!
Yeesssss
Oh I like her stuff!
That's me
i love izzzyzzz!! her makeup always makes her videos more interesting to watch imho, it gives visual appeal without being overstimulating like those kids videos where saturation is turned up 50%
Omg I freaking LOVE Sakura Stardust!!!
Same! I love super in depth videos about things I have no idea about :)
similar to izzzyzzz, try LiSpeaks!! she makes recap/commentary about lost media and weird kids shows!!
Yes! He's one of the best gaming UA-camrs. I actually feel like he pays attention to what he plays.
manly is the indirect reason behind like 90% of my horror game discoveries and the discovery of my best friend
gotta love him getting some love here
he plays the best most niche horror games!!
I like when he goes back to get all the endings so we’re not left wondering, and the calm demeanor is nice
the guy at 20:52 is a an investment banker trying to create lore for his "Ghost town" to drive more tourism dollars to his investors. wish i was joking but D'Angelo do a deep dive
Yes, came to comments to say the same! She’s pretty awesome.
I hope the Mr Beast copycats simmer down soon. I live for niche content like the bench builder but my autism makes it impossible to watch for me 😭
This exactly this
21:04 Grifter alert, D'Angelo! This guy is shady, dude.
Yup! I forget the specifics but i think he caused building damages and did shady money stuff.
He's a billionaire who buys historical landmarks and tears them down to make tourist traps.
@@PocketKaninone of the buildings "burned down", idk if that's what youre referring to
How so? I've watched the channel for over a year and this is the first I'm hearing of it. And I'm being sincere in asking. If he is a grifter, I want to know.
Mostly i've seen him preserving the town (like rebuilding the hotel that burned down etc).
@@jinna2726 ua-cam.com/video/EIcnCaVsYFI/v-deo.html
i've been an absolute sucker for the Dan and Phil revival, i remember watching them as a teen and then being so excited to see them making stuff again, and their content is somehow even better to me now!! they're still so fun and nostalgic but they also seem more relaxed and mature and it feels like old friends who all did some growing up together (in the least parasocially weird way possible)
seeing the trending tab be in the state it is really makes me appreciate when I'm reccomended a video with 12 views from a channel with 7 subscribers
My favorite UA-camrs are you, Mike's Mic, Claire Saffitz, and Binging with Babish! I also loved Jenna Marbles back when she posted and miss her :/
Babish and Claire have been like a bastion amongst the Mr Beastification of youtube food videos. They have been doing the same thing for years and people still love it. Not to miss Joshua Wiseman, but my god I can't watch him anymore, every video feels fake and it's just not fun anymore
"'You Belong With Me'" is about a controlling relationgship" Actually I'm pretty sure the entire point of the song is that there *is* no relationship 💀
Also the idea that tim mcgraw was about being obsessed with tim mcgraw is kinda funny lmao
I'd argue that you belong with me is a femcel anthem for the basic girls lmao
D'Angelo! If you like hearing about something that someone's super passionate about, even if it's not your thing, I highly reccomend Defunctland!
(I know the odds of this ever being seen are incredibly low, but still feel it's worth promoting Defuctland because ever video is a *masterpeice*)
i thinn D'Angelo mentioned defunctland in one of his recent videos.... dont remember which tho
@onyx_mango ooh! Good to know, in that case it's just more reading for the rest of the class
I love Defunctland!
Every time I go on Trending, I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.
im really into these 4-5 hour deep dives on random things. especially hailey whipjack and cj the x, they just scratch that itch in me
Drawfee!
Maggie Mae Fish, Shanspere, Jessie Gender, Jessica Fozzen-Kelgard (don't think I'm spelling that right), F.D. Signifier, Foreign Man in a Foreign Land, Amanda the Jedi, Casually Comics, Rachel Maksy... I'll stop now 😅
omg a Foreign shout-out in the wild, love to see it!
@felicityhicks4552 I believe it's Jessica Kellgren-Fozard. I like her a lot too!
i love rachel maksy!! her content is adorable ❤
Glad to know everyone else here has high quality taste in content
lol
these are all channels I don't have to suggest then
Sarah Z, too. She just put out a great video.
Adding Technology Connections to this list! His videos are so educational!
I'm so happy to see Kennie on this list. I found her channel during the pandemic and got hooked on her Bad Movies & a Beat series.
I dont even like Disneyland that much 😅 Also his video about trying to find who made the Disney channel theme song brought me to actual tears ( seriously its stunning work )
"Debunking stupid viral" vids are my fav: Lab Muffin, How To Cook That, Mini Minuteman, etc. Also booktube like Rachel Oates, + metal bands.
hell yeah we're going absolutely googledebunkers with this one
Oooh Michelle Wong from Lab Muffin Beauty Science ROCKS (hit the nerdification bell!!!)
And Anne Reardon! @how to cook that
My people 🙌❤️🧪
I love UA-camrs that go into obscure rabbit holes, like Wendigoon, Oki’s Weird Stories, Fredrik Knudsen, Lemmino, ScareTheater, etc. long form content of fascinating topics and straight up, clean presentation format without the exhausting editing is honestly so good
It’s crazy bc the conversation around UA-cam promoting TV clips (especially late night shows) rather than creators has been going on for AGES. I remember Jenna Marbles and Julien talking about it on their podcast in like 2016/2018 and the main theory was that UA-cam was gonna start TV broadcasting (which…..yeah). It’s kinda crazy that the convo is still continuing even if at a lesser level as a lot of UA-camrs were kinda freaking out
I love crafting and sewing channels - morgan donner, bernadette banner, rachel maksy, the stitchery, and so many more.
Scott Cramer is one of my favs!! He's a Midwestern dad who makes videos ab all sorts of stuff from local fairs to old game shows, and he often gets his family involved too! One thing I've noticed scrolling thru UA-cam is how negative nearly every video title is and his videos are so refreshingly positive and upbeat, I'd highly recommend
some of my favourite non-commentary non-beastified youtube channels:
STRANGE ÆONS (snarky lesbian takes deep dives into tumblr lore)
Mercury Stardust (renter-friendly home repair/maintenance tutorials & sincere encouragement from the trans handy-ma'am)
Emily the Engineer (just a gal with great sense of humour making crazy things with her 3d printer)
Technology Connections (hands-down the most helpful, informative, fun videos about how all kinds of gadgets and household appliances work)
Stuff Made Here (unhinged projects and a good time)
blumineck (extremely cool mashup of archery, pole dancing, high heels, and dnd)
Leafy Street (just some guy making humourous video content about his reptile pets)
Sage the Bad Naturalist (funny nature shorts and short videos)
Clint's Reptiles (fascinating reptile education and discussions)
Snake Discovery (snake babies hatching)
Walk East (long walks & drives through various cities in china)
I feel like you just copied my subscriptions lol Clint, Emily, and Tia are my favs

13:59 this is why i love your thumbnails no matter what channel you’re on. you’ve avoided the commentary youtube yellow text thumbnail of death
I can’t help but notice that a lot of the stuff from the AI suggestion feature is mostly content targeted at women. I wonder if that’s channel specific
The trending page is where sponsored content goes against being FCC and FTC guidelines
12:40 You joke, but if instead of being a mr beast clone video for children, this was a 4 hour long video essay titled "100 years of toys: a retrospective" I'd be like. "Yeah man" and watch it over the next few days lol
Bro we need hbomberguy to make a video on this PLEASE HARRIS🙏
Try making a new UA-cam account and see the videos UA-cam shows to you. IT'S SHOCKING
I know, I got my new email account for college this year, opened UA-cam to find a math help video, and got instantly jumpscared by a page full of Mr. Beast and politics
I can't imagine having to make a new account when I have had to curate this one for years 😭 terrifying
Forcing the algorithm in the direction you want it in, ONLY being able to click on videos or watch a few seconds of videos you actually like, making playlists and adding to them, liking, liking, liking, subscribing...
I have just horrified myself
14:45 Title Drop
My personal recommendations from youtubers i watch:
Miniminutemen: he used to just be a tiktok guy putting out debunking videos for conspiracy shorts, and he still makes those, but he also puts out some really interesting vids highlighting historical sites.
Pete beard: mini-docs showcasing artists from the "golden age of illustration" (late 1800s-1950s). Some really high quality stuff put out on a weekly basis
Jerkcomic: really in depth multi-part documentaries about comic book artists from the 90s, plus some lesser known comic books from that era, plus interviews. Really underrated dude for the quality of content he uploads
As a swiftie im a lil triggered by "the story of us is a boring and uninspired song" as a woman im mad at the AI victim blaming FKA twigs. Wtf
Her videos, as well as Hextian and Dollightful are fun refreshers to come back to every once in a while as you're working on an art project or smth.
I like Michael Reeves videos because they are interesting and yeah sometimes it kind of has mr beast type editing sometimes, but I find what he does (engineering/coding) and creates really interesting and his humor is cool too
the "stop it! no you stop it! stopp!" with the football players made me scream 😭

*FunkyFrogBait
*JordanFringe
*CinnamonToastKen
*Elbat
Fringe is good stuff!!
Handful of channel recs for others browsing comments:
• Fascinating Horror (Covers variety of “things that went wrong” instances in history and sometimes more recent years. Often a focus on how an event changed regulations on things going forward. Under 20min long content ~10min iirc)
• Colleen’s Manga Recs ( self explanatory lmao but nice amount of shoujo related videos. Always sounds passionate about the topic theyre covering)
• Emma in the Moment (Knitting content. I don’t knit or have an interest in learning but ??? Knitting drama is fun to listen to.)
• Amanda the Jedi (movie reviews/ movie commentary? Appreciate how she’s been recommending movies she does enjoy while covering “bad”movies )
• Silly Potato (cool pixel art)
*edit for spelling + additional comment

My friend and I still quote his old bits (we’re talking like 2012-2014), he was a damn good entertainer but god he’s terrible
If you're looking for a youtuber to watch who has a similar comedy style I recommend Caddicarus. He's like JonTron except he's British and not racist
@@sophitiaofhyrule Oooh, I'll check him out! Thanks!
She's a gift to this world for having completely free patterns and video explanations!
i've watched a few of their videos for tutorials! would recommend for that reason alone
