"Harassing"? Where? I get that y'all are refreshed by her but let's not exaggerate. He wasn't even talking to her. It's fine that she yelled back, but nobody harassed her.
I actually agree with Chappell roans reactions so intensely. Just because celebrities have generally put up with disrespect doesn’t mean they should have to.
I think celebrities are allowed to have boundaries with their fans full stop. I hate that Chappell is getting so much hate for not wanting her fans to stalk her and her family
As someone who already thinks how people usually engage with celebrities being really strange, the backlash she’s been getting is so weird to me. Like, she’s still a person bro? She’s a human being? People are known for having boundaries, so why does her being famous change that? You would think “please don’t stalk my family members” would be obvious too, but I guess not
I wanna see how this plays out, will she always be this headstrong and combative or will she slowly start to accept how being famous is as the years go by? I think ppl are going to troll her just to get a reaction like that 😅
honestly the earplug drama is wild. Not only will it protect your hearing in such loud environments, but it is also a commonly used tool for many neurodivergent people. I am an autistic nurse, and yes, I use earplugs at work.
yeah people took something innocent and made it way too deep for no good reason lol i put cotton "plugs" in my ears when i go to the cinema even because shts just way too loud lol doesnt mean im not hearing it or shading anyone by doing it...
I went to a Hozier concert this past weekend and his music isn’t as intense as a lot of shows i’ve forgotten earplugs at….but i forgot them and I still have on and off tinnitus episodes days later. I will absolutely be taking it more seriously. Additionally, early hearing loss is linked to early onset dementia.
“chappell isn’t ready for this industry” no bestie the industry isn’t ready for HER. she’s not putting up with any of this bs that pop stars before have gone through. major societal changes don’t happen from people being nice!! chappell is making sure that she and future pop stars start getting treated with a little more respect.
Chappell Roan’s reactions remind me of how in environments in which abuse is tolerated or even at times encouraged, anyone who dares to fight back is viewed as funny or bitchy or both. They aren’t taken seriously. Chappell Roan doesn’t need to do better, the entertainment industry does. Ok thank you for coming to my TED Talk ✌🏼
yuppp it's very much so giving "reactive abuse" which I think is the phenomena you're referring to 🙂 chappell roan is an angel with so so so much talent and style and DRAMATICS and I would be devastated (as would anyone else with even a shred of TASTE) if she had to bail on making more music to preserve her mental health (although it would be 100% understandable of course) so it would be much appreciated if the media and her so called "fans" could stop being so fucking weird asap, like immediately, like YESTERDAY so we avoid that tragedy, thanks so much 💘
she reminds me a lot of Emma Watson when she became an adult tbh. boundary setting in the entertainment industry is treated as entitled behaviour and it sucks that it's been an individual thing rather than a movement, which it should be. i know that "era" of Watson's career is overshadowed by the whole 'no corset in beauty and the beast' but she was mainly fighting for her life against directors/producers who wanted to be the first to make her do a topless scene, script be damned
The way people react to Chappell Roan is giving parents screaming "don't talk back to me" when you defend yourself a little after they've been saying the most hurtful things for 30 minutes straight.
Isn't the general paparazzi hate like, during normal day-to-day action, not posed photographers? Like I thought people hated that they invade privacy and bother people. Red carpets have people posing, there's an expectation that photographers will be there.
@@MasterMemo Posed photographers are also POS (not all but the glorified papparazzi section of them). There was video footage just a while ago of the Met Gala where photographers were yelling racial insults at a foreign group attending to try and get a reaction out of them so they could snap a pic of it. It's actually a very common thing and I remember a few celebs coming forward with similar stories of these posed "photographers" being creeps or just saying inappropriate things to get a rise.
The controversies... my god 1. Tyla was polite, she asked for help and got it. Yall needed better upbringings if you thought that was uppity hf 2. Chappell was 100% in the right to scream at that paparazzi in the way she did, stfu forever if you side with an indignant celebrity photographer 3. Jack would've been right even if they weren't ear plugs, who the hell would willingly subject themselves to a Katy Perry performance in 2024?
Don't get me wrong, I was happy about the nostalgia but ugh those Katy Perry songs didn't age super well (in my opinion.) It was a little weird to hear rap songs and other newer songs then she like ONLY performed her old songs. I mean, her new songs aren't as loved so it's valid but.. just didn't feel like it fit to me.
Why are y’all being hateful for no reason? Katy Perry literally had hits from decades ago and she was performing all of that. Stop acting like she has never had hits before
@@smithsunleashed I'm not pretending she doesn't have hits, I just don't like her style of pop and haven't for a good while now. Plus 2000s - 2010s music isn't aging well, probably my least favourite music came out of that era's pop. It's just odd to me, personal preference.
I thought her performance was good. That 1st outfit was perfect for spinning in the air. Nice combo of songs. It surprised me that I liked it tbh but I watched it more than once
i'm glad chappell yelled back. i hope people stop harassing her when she does decide to attend events, she could very well decide to just not go at all, and she'd be completely in her right.
Chappell being a bulldozer in the music industry is so fucking refreshing. She’s not putting up with any of the horseshit that celebrities are supposed to put up with. She is being a trailblazer for a long overdue restructure for celebrity culture and I’m totally here for it. She needs to say stfu to more rude photographers💕
@@hoordeyah lol he would've won an award. Adam Driver beat up an old woman during filming and everyone just glossed over it. A woman setting boundaries is obviously different. Also idk why im typing this comment since you're clearly just baiting/are looking for answers you want but you know 🤪
@TheTinaBelcher which is f*cked and sick. Someone is sharing how her safety and the safety of her family is consistently being threatened with stalkers and hatassers... and ppl want to bandwagon with harasses and stalkers.
"I really wanna love her but..she's so exhausting". I get so annoyed when I read comments like that lately. Literally nobody is forcing anyone to engage with content about her. Just move on. If you like her music but don't care for her, just listen to her music. There are interviews of her being perfectly nice and giggly with the vma interviewers and people will be like 'I get bad vibes'. It's like they won't come right out and say they hate that she asserted her boundaries but will find a plethora of other ways to randomly hate on her.
I love Chappell! But, apparently, the photographer wasn't telling her to STFU? He was arguing with another photographer, and she thought he was yelling at her (understandably). At least that's what it seems like from the video, and is the general consensus on Reddit...
Chappell is 100% valid. She actually said something in another carpet interview that was to the effect of her having been famous for five minutes and refusing to let the precedent be set that she was going to allow herself to be treated like that for her whole rest of her career, and honestly I respect her so much for that.
In another clip you can hear the photographer yelling at her and someone told her to stfu, she said she wont stfu because she didn't get a shot of chappell, and then chappell yelled back in defense of herself and whoever was telling her to chill out.
@@mchjsosde I don't know why, but I work in offices with decision makers, legal influencers, meant to show empathy to the most vulnerable at times... and they can be such P.O.S., that asking if I can believe it, unfortunately yes. Shit reminds me of Met Gala last year with Stray Kids and how photographers made xenophobic comments to them. It seems we need photographers to take some morals and ethics classes.
No they didn’t. They made it about celebrity entitlement with a side order of xenophobia which is just as goofy 😂. Although I do wonder if some of these celebrities ever moved into an apartment, a dorm room, etc. Did they ever take some groceries upstairs? Like how heavy can a trophy be? It is not the Heisman or the hockey trophy.
@@carrington2949 Crazy thing is I remember a lot of people turned their backs on Halle because they felt she was becoming entitled (it was some incident with a hotel if I still remember correctly) so not only is this whole thing goofy but lowkey kinda hypocritical of them
Shes loved globally its only America who tries to hate. She defies stereotypes of what an African should be and American folks just don't like that it seems.
theres a good chunk of "controversies" out there that arent controversies at all, but just people online who wanted to feel intellectual by providing armchair analysis for situations where it was completely unneeded.
Chappell and Jenny Ortega are just out there saying “hey we are human beings and we should be respected as fully autonomous living things” like just because women HAVE been treated like posable dolls doesn’t mean they SHOULD be. You can hate them for being rich all you want but in order to believe that all people are equally valuable simply for being alive I have to accept that are fully human with the same value as the person in the middle of the road with the sign. Neither deserves to be dehumanized.
I don't wanna be that meme but hmm actually other people said that the photographer wasn't cussing at her, he was cussing at another photographer and i think Chappell stepped in to help defend the other guy or something like that
Honestly I feel like what most likely happened was the photographer yelled at another photographer, Chappell thought it was at her (she said the carpet was very overwhelming) and yelled back which honestly is valid, cursing at people loudly invites anyone to yell at you tbh, it doesn’t necessarily have to be in defense
I will never stop wishing Chappell Roan the best. She went from questioning the longevity of her music career for most of a decade to massive festivals and the VMAs so incredibly quickly. It feels like she had no time for it to ramp up or to acclimate to her new degree of fame. She's already been open about how peoples' entitlement has led to her feeling unsafe, and how she's trying to navigate her mental health in this incredibly challenging industry. It makes me so deeply angry that people finally recognize how harmful the media, paparazzi, and audience entitlement was to early 2000s/2010s performers... but will then speak about Chappell like she owes people perfect responses and unlimited access to her just because "that's the job". People shouldn't have to wait a decade or two to discuss the tragic treatment of female performers and how it's impacted them. They need to start correcting how they view and speak about them in the present.
The Tyla situation is crazy, it seems like so many people are just upset she doesn't fit into a neat box and they just take it out on her in the weirdest ways? Let my girl breathe.
this is why kpop idols act a certain way at award shows. Smiling at someone for too long, oh theyre dating. Yawning during someone's song, oh theyre beefing. Talking to someone next them, oh theyre talking about x. It's like we gotta act like robots at these shows its crazyyyy
D’Angelo, as an African who immigrated to America at 21 and now 27, I can tell you that Americans seem to have an incessant fascination with belittling Africans. Being African, intelligent, educated, and stylish doesn’t exempt you from their treatment as anomalies. It’s almost as if there’s an expectation that you’ll conform to a certain stereotype, perhaps being humble and grateful for the privilege of being in America. When you deviate from this expectation, you’re labeled as uppity, entitled, and all sorts of negative traits. The moment they hear your accent, they expect you to meet their preconceived notions, and any deviation from that is unfathomable. It’s particularly challenging when you’re queer, as it raises questions about how you can be African, queer, comfortable, and proud.
Yeah honestly such a bizarre and baffling take. I don't understand this cognitive dissonance of "Africa is a third-world continent, so poor, so underdeveloped " thinking and then the audacity of being like "actually africans are uppity" like girl what???? make up your MINDDD or better yet stop seeing africa as a monolith of one giant negative strerotype or the other
Similar treatment when you're from The Caribbean, no matter which island (every American will call you Jamaican anyway.) I suppose the worst treatment is reserved for our Haitian brothers and sisters, you can see it on the news and all over Twitter right now, and for what?
In my very limited experience, actually uppity Africans don’t have an obvious accent, as they’ve spent most of their life IN the US. But, like, that’s not really an African thing; it’s an insanely wealthy thing. It’s universal. I will say, even the brattiest of African clients I’ve worked with do an excellent job of pointing out exactly how little Americans know about Africa.
the Tyla hate is veery forced. it's crazy because she literally said please (twice), thank you AND sorry. not sure how much nicer she could have been about that request lmao

Chappell’s stance against the stalking and harrassment that celebrities get from the paparazzi and their own fans was very much needed. I’m glad she’s being so firm about her boundaries and that she’s not afriad to set them.
"Y'all gotta stop placing celebrities and other people in these situations where there is no correct way of responding and then proceeding to get mad at said celebrities for not responding correctly." 100% on target. I do not understand why people think that just because these people are well known and got money, they are supposed to be okay with being basically stalked all the time and shouted at. They aren't robots. I don't even like most of them but people have to stop acting like just because they're famous, they have to put up with what boil down to human rights violations on the daily. The contrast between men and women outfits are wild, really reflects the social conditioning we all go through in society, are we really presenting ourselves in our own image, or in the image that compliant with societal norms, if all these wealthy men and women cant express themselves truly, how do ordinary expect to achieve this
Also another note, that the only man to actually have an interesting outfit that's a clear expression of themselves, its the one of the few gay men present. which to me, means that coming out of the closet is not just about sexuality. but it's about shedding the shell forced upon by society and letting the butterfly out
If you look at men's fashion before the 1800s, anyone who could afford it was FLASHY. Then things started to get boring, and there's plenty of content on YT about that.

Chappell's responses in general make me think of a toxic office environments. You have managers (paparazzo) micro managing, asking for overtime, expecting you to be checking work out of work hours and honestly have no job without you there for them to talk down to and direct into positions they want you, in most instances. Then someone comes in with self respect and boundaries deemed rude because the others before them bent over backwards out of fear they wouldn't get the favorable treatment and praise of those who don't even offer anything without them there doing their job.

@@nessie-from-earthbound1601 the craziest part is most of the response is WHY IS SHE COMPLAINING, THAT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE FAMOUS???
I wanna see how this plays out, will she always be this headstrong and combative or will she slowly start to accept how being famous is as the years go by? I think ppl are going to troll her just to get a reaction like that 😅
i actually love that she's setting boundaries from the beginning
honestly the earplug drama is wild. Not only will it protect your hearing in such loud environments, but it is also a commonly used tool for many neurodivergent people. I am an autistic nurse, and yes, I use earplugs at work.
Yeah the few concerts I've gone to, I used earplugs and I paid to see the artists
esp for a music producer, he absolutely needs to protect his hearing
yeah people took something innocent and made it way too deep for no good reason lol i put cotton "plugs" in my ears when i go to the cinema even because shts just way too loud lol doesnt mean im not hearing it or shading anyone by doing it...
I was thinking this too. I have sensory issues and earplugs save my sanity on a regular basis.
Preach!!
Eh, she keeps calling out her ex. That’s not appropriate. In that way, she’s not ready. Setting boundaries is great though.
@Username0467 other celebrities do that all the time though? i don't see why its an issue when she does it
@Username0467 what does that have to do with her "readiness" for the industry
@@Username0467 How? This is the first time I've heard of this
Chappell Roan’s reactions remind me of how in environments in which abuse is tolerated or even at times encouraged, anyone who dares to fight back is viewed as funny or bitchy or both.
Preach!
You're absolutely right. She's not the one who needs to do better. It's been normalized for too long and it literally gets women killed.

As a photographer, paparazzi shouldn't be called photographers. You're not an artist, you're a creep with an expensive camera.

Exactly. I really don’t understand how they are legal, it’s just harassment with a fancy camera.
People always agree that paparazzi are awful until a woman talks back to them

No cuz I was in support of her yelling stfu with no context cuz I just hate the scummy paps so much
Isn't the general paparazzi hate like, during normal day-to-day action, not posed photographers? Like I thought people hated that they invade privacy and bother people. Red carpets have people posing, there's an expectation that photographers will be there.
@@MasterMemo Usually both are present.
The controversies... my god
1. Tyla was polite, she asked for help and got it. Yall needed better upbringings if you thought that was uppity hf
2. Chappell was 100% in the right to scream at that paparazzi in the way she did, stfu forever if you side with an indignant celebrity photographer

It surprised me that I liked it tbh but I watched it more than once

theres a good chunk of "controversies" out there that arent controversies at all, but just people online who wanted to feel intellectual by providing armchair analysis for situations where it was completely unneeded.
Chappell Roan yelling back at that photographer who yelled and cussed at her was so refreshing.

"Maybe we shouldn't eat the rich bc they have no taste" 🔥🔥🔥
Sabrinas VMA dress...was actually Madonnas VMA dress first. She asked Sabrina if she would like to wear it!
love her so much
fashion girl here, wet hair trend is for sex appeal! think sirens, girls in bikinis, fresh out of a shower, a lot of wet hair situations r due to sexy things. plus it just looks pretty i think :)
i'm more mad Chappell didn't cleave the dude in half with that sword ngl
also wet hair was a trend in end 90s-mid 2000s. i partook. i thank every single god the internet wasn't a big thing back then
The video from yesterday made me feel so seen. It made us all feel seen. It has been a tough time finding happiness, and your video encapsulated so perfectly what a lot of us are dealing with. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Can’t wait to laugh at this one :)
I'm SO here for D'Angelo just not forgiving the suits. As someone who just doesn't have opinions on fashion, I absolutely agree that men should step it up
The trophy's weight is clearly a problem, but folks would rather blame the person who has to carry it? People are weird.
they should have a podium, she wasn’t the only one with a problem
For 40 long years, they’ve handed out this award, and at last, we’re able to address the unbearable burden a celebrity must endure-standing for a full minute on national television, holding that award for their achievements. I’m so relieved we’re finally talking about it because something must be done! The only place they should be expected to hold it, is when they’re getting their photos and not a minute sooner!
Chappell Roan was right to speak out, right to defend herself and that outfit is iconic. Keep slaying, queen, use that sword
I'm always surprised when people react negatively to celebrities shouting at or even striking paparazzi. Especially after Princess Diana, I'm really surprised that paparazzi aren't considered basically the scum of the earth
the Tyla hate train is honestly so forced, some ppl just don't like seeing a pretty face, with confidence, and raw talent take up any space
Nah, people are just suspicious. It is not forced at all. It is really easy in the conspiracy era of this country. Anyone can become a villain. Call it the post Demonic Diddy /Katt Williams exposing / Harvey Weinstein/ Britney Spears abuse age. A former President just accused people of eating cats and he still has a good chance of winning. Who knows who will be next? It is a weird time.
the o my thing im really upset about is them not matching the color of her undies not the necklace, dress, OR shoes 😔 not even an attempt to make it look like skin either just bright green under there
@@eclectic3454 wait really?!! i thought the neon green added a nice pop to the whole fit. but i can see where you’d coming from w wanting clean matching colors. that would’ve been fye 2
Im not mad at her im just over the fact they are overlooking well deserving afrobeats artists for her generic, watered down version of it, but i cant be mad at her for them giving her these awards...
I remember when people tried to say she isn’t “black” because she was mixed. A woman who deadass grew up in South Africa isn’t “black” but mixed artists in the US are still allowed is WILD.
Seeing this after having watched your previous video, where you said you were going to film this right after, is actually so powerful because it conceptualizes how you never know what someone is going through when you look at them from afar of just at surface level. I'm happy you expressed the fun you were having with yt these days and how you've gotten better at dealing with things but as someone who thankfully doesn't deal with depression, I'm still grateful at the insight. It's one thing to know something but another to see it for yourself.
Also Chappell Roan's outfit was everything. I'm praying for a knight core fashion moment actually.
chappell’s outfit is SO iconic.
I want it so badly, I don’t care if I have no place to wear it, it’s so flowy soft looking
she looked sooo good UGH i love her
10:02 did people not see Chappell also struggling to hold the award as well as her diary?? I was hoping someone would come help her hold it LMAO so go Tyla for asking?? I'm so confused lol
The same people mad at Chappell Roan are ALSO the same who loooove Trump for “being so unfiltered.” 🙄
Love Chappell Roan for telling the paparazzi to shut the f*ck up. It was very iconic and the guy needed to be humbled. Love it when celebrities set boundaries, they're not court jesters, they don't have to be nice to rude interviewers and paparazzis
I'm realizing how much ppl believe folks should just shut up and take abuse. Why be polite in the face of aggression? Who does that serve? It only protects bullies.
This whole tyla thing is exactly why a lot of people say that people on the internet are soooooo easily offended.
Nah Uppity African was kinda fab. She should’ve left it in her bio to spite Armon.
I'm sure I'm not phrasing this well, but Tate McRae's dress doesn't work for me because it looks like her head is pasted on. She has so much spray tan on that she looks like two different people. I get the Britney reference but the lace pattern is too busy to have the same appeal.
Who would ever think that a professional music producer would want to use HEARING PROTECTION
Yea, it was immediately obvious that he was just using earplugs. A reasonable thing to do when a room is too loud. People live to invent drama 😂
Taylor Swift's outfit actually would rock on anyone willing to do something slightly fucked up with their hair to commit to the look, but uhh.
Yeah no I actually kinda liked it, if she went just slightly edgier with it, it would look great. Didn’t really like the way he used the edginess/ hot topicish vibe as an insult. 😭
Agreed. It’s like the styling didn’t go far enough, so it comes off as more of a big box Halloween costume than a look. And I think there was even a way to do it AND still look more polished than punk, a la Bratz Dolls or Monster High.
8:21 that fit is actually so so so so insanely awesome. she looks straight out of a comic strip 🤯
Ngl Tyla gets a 10/10 from me for the hair alone. She’s straight up GORGEOUS even with the horrible dress 😭
"We love you D'Angelo" we all say in unison
WE LOVE YOU D'ANGELO 🤖‼️📣
Yes!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
we love you d'angelo!!
The mention of the Umbrella academy made me realize that I would LOVE to see D’angelo tear apart s4
I would actually watch s4 just to better appreciate the video.
no bc wearing earplugs at concerts is literally so good!!!! u still get to feel the bass in ur body and hear whats gotta b heard without having to deal w ur ears ringing for the whole next day and long-term hearing loss
Uppity African is crazy. People need to get a hobby 😭
I completely agree about the men's choices... WHY can't they be as creative and outrageous? I love it when men show individuality!!
Katy Perry out here looking like the ruined baseball props from the Sandlot 💀
Hahaha 😂
I always see peoople speculating about Tyla's weight and health online so I think her being perceived as "too weak" to hold an award is probably blood in the water for the worst kind of discoursers out there. "She's body checking" or she's just trying not to hold an envelope.
That's weird because it's not like she's unable to bacardi dance she's a good dance and has stamina
It's giving thin envy😂
I kind of love tylas look 🤭 like the MTV colour reference, the green underwear, the heels??? The hair??? Idk it’s just giving. Idk what but it’s giving
with all the chappel roan stuff, i think people are starting to see that celebrities are well...people?? they're just human beings with talent but they still have the same emotions as the rest of us. people are starting to see that celebrities are people and not objects and they don't like it
Is anyone else getting the sense we've seen half of these fits back in the late 00's and early 2010's? Like the rips, the cut outs, the bra tops,, the silhouettes, it's all feeling very familiar?
from what I heard, this year was the VMA’s 40th anniversary so people were trying to dress from different eras
wow, never been so early to Judiciary Jazz Studies class before.
Maybe I should switch from my major in astrological marketing
Lil Nas X and Chappell Roan were my favorites. Totally different but both so fun and honestly great looks 🏆
What’s happening to Chappell is literally reaction abuse. Its when people put all the blame and criticism on the person reacting rather than on what made them react like that in the first place. People were harassing her family and someone tried to kiss her and yet her calling them out is wrong, someone yells at her and yet her yelling back is whats wrong. I honestly feel so bad for her.
I think I sympathize so deeply with Chapel here because when you have a situation where abuse and harassment are considered the norm, and someone tries to speak out about that, they are very often demonized. It was like that in my family and it’s like that in the industry. I was ostracized for speaking out against the abuse in my family, and now I’m seeing people tear her down for speaking out against the abuse in the industry, so she’s got my support haha.
