Man, I remember when Nerd City was really well respected on UA-cam. His video on how Jake Paul's videos violated the FCC's terms on advertising to children was great and well informative. In that video about UA-cam's demontization system, he specifically made a point about how the system surpresses LGBTQIA+ creators. Sucks to see him become the very person he would've criticized several years ago.
it just makes me feel like maybe the criticism wasn't coming from a genuine place. people rarely turn their backs on intersectionality, so he probably just tolerated lgbtq+ people at best but now he's all bitter about the 'woke' suddenly he has issues
@@peachy_lili I've watched people go from hardcore allies to anti-anything but male, white, Christian and straight overnight. Once you go down that twitter rabbit hole, there's no coming back.
@@peachy_lili Agree. I think he chose targets that people love to hate (Jake Paul, SSSniperwolf) and found new, typically very valid angles to criticize them. With demonetization and the terms UA-cam was/is biased against, which included a whole bunch of LGBTQ+ related words, he likely knew exposing that would make him look good. He was, or at least seemed, "woke" (if you can call a general support towards minorities that) when it served him and he was revered in the UA-cam sphere. But his real feelings were let out when his views and relevancy dropped, and now _he_ was the target of the criticism and ridicule, so now it's Marxist this and woke that and insert cat picture here. It feels like during the last few years, many people who were kinda teetering on the edge with their views (maybe making "I identify as an Apache attack helicopter" jokes but otherwise being respectful and not caring that much) have fallen down the far right rabbit hole and are now in this bubble of the bitter and hateful. They feel emboldened to say the quiet part out loud and see everything as black-and-white. Either you're _'woke mind virus'_ -infected sheep, or brave free thinkers (repeating the same talking points). Even back when I watched him, I thought the whole "Thot Patrol" thing was off. And cringe. But I pushed it off cause I wanted him to be someone I can respect - and I own up to being willfully blind to that. I can't remember the content of those videos and what his points were exactly (and I don't care to go back and watch now), but considering everything, I wouldn't be surprised if amongst the obvious criticism, there were jokes and arguments solely based on them being women on the Internet. Especially conventionally attractive women on the Internet.
@@imaginekudryavka9485hey, good for you for taking ownership of turning a blind eye to his shitty behavior and the subtle signs of this happening before it happened for real. Not a lot of people do that, and I've been trying to do a fair bit of it myself recently, especially as it relates to how I handled my own internalized misogyny for a really long time. It feels really good to see that other people who, like me, are out here eating their crow for everyone to see and are on the same journey. Here's to being better, and keeping ourselves accountable. ❤
@@imaginekudryavka9485Completely agree. Not to pull a 'I always knew there was something wrong unlike all the oblivious sheeple' because that would be wrong and I genuinely enjoyed some of his videos back in the day (the editing really was great) buuuut 'thot patrol' never sat right with me either. I kind of would have liked slightly more empathy about why so many women on the internet feel the need to photoshop their bodies, but also why this can have harmful consequences on impressionable young viewers, and basically just perpetuates the cycle of toxic and unattainable beauty standards. Instead the butt of the joke was basically just 'lol look at all these superficial women, isn't it funny how bad they are at photoshop' rather than like..the fact that anyone feels the need to digitally alter their face and body in this way obviously points to a larger issue and maybe it's worth discussing why it's only the 'thot' patrol and men on the internet seem to be immune to or at least much less affected by this problem. But nah, let's just stick to making fun of women like Tana and Sniperwolf who even a lot of self-described progressive people still love to subtly (or not so subtly) slutshame.
For context on the "cat owner" bit, the podcast he co-hosts with 3 other youtubers (of which he is objectively the worst host) has a discord server where people were posting pics of their pet cats. He got ass mad because every time he tried to shill his NFT's there, people would spam cat pics to clog up the chat and detract from his shilling, so his response was to ban anyone who posted more than 1 picture of a cat lmao. Also a meme in the discord was to make fun of him talking about his NFT shilling by responding in baby talk, he would talk about how everyone needed to mint tokens of his project (acronym of which is DAP) asap, so people kept responding to his posts with "dappy want mint mint" and this seems to have been the catalyst for his public meltdown here
It's also worth noting that Conservatives tend to dismiss anyone on the Left as being lonely, hateful, SJWs with multiple cats. There's a lot to unpack there, but the tldr seems to be that normal, cool people = dog owners, and unhinged SJW Marxists = craaaazzzzzy cat owners.
Not often do you see someone lose so much respect so quickly. I always foudn his NFT rambling horribly cringe and stupid but seeing him lose his fucking mind over that garbage is just sad. Is he really that greedy? Or just insane? Maybe both
Being told “tell your wife you love her” from MahNameJeff420 is so fucking funny. the fact he replied to any of these with the seriousness he did is baffling
I think I can explain his sudden hatred of leftists. A couple of years ago, someone suggested that Hasan watch one of his videos on stream, he got about a minute in and went to do something else. (Nothing against the video, it was one I'd seen and liked, personally.) Nerd City found this out and has never forgiven him since. That's the only explanation that makes ANY. SENSE.
@@RabidDogmanow his comment towards Hasan on the podcast makes sense. In one episode he cried about Hasan making the right click to download meme. Because "it would mislead his viewers". Now long time later it all makes sense.
HI HELLO! i'm the person who uploaded the cat pic responding to NerdCity's "cat owner spotted" message. it's became an inside joke now to have a cat pic occasionally when talking about nerdcity on the sub.
my favorite thing about it is that the cat in the pic looks just like they'd look if you grabbed them and set them down in front of NerdCity just to bother him. it's like "ok, I'm here. what?"
I love that NerdCity has been on the internet for quite some time and still thinks that complaining about there being “too many cat gifs” ISN’T going to result in him being drowned with cat gifs the second he looks at any screen for the rest of his life 😂
Thought exactly the same thing, girl was out of his league. Though maybe it was the other way around; she broke up with him because of his downward spiral
I used to be a HUGE fan. HUGE fan. I watched his Jaystation video a dozen times. The fact that he has had a downfall so severe that he is coming off as hysterical in the UA-camR DRAMA subreddit, a subreddit known for being insane and reactive, is so crushing. It hurts bro. It's like when granny starts to not recognize you.
@@TheNinToaster “Something bad was in Jaystation. But when another UA-camr exposed him, resulting in Jay shutting down his channel, the bad jumped into a new host…”
Me too!! I watched all of his vids multiple times and praised the editing. This is so disappointing (and omg your grandma comparison is such a good way of describing it)
"cat owner" "Marxist mob" "woke" "word salad" I know these are all pretty common insults but they're especially common on Fox News right now. I think he fell right down the rabbit hole.
it's not surprising. just listen to him talking on the TBH podcast, it was clear he was already in the process for a long time it made me stop listening to the podcast at some point (probably when he talked about demons or defended andrew tate) and unsubscribe from his channel
I remember seeing a video by him shortly after the NFT crash just trying to grapple with it while also wanting to continue to pursue his project. He was talking about the Folding Ideas video and how much it bummed him out for days just thinking "is this all pointless? Is there no use for this?" He seemed to be on the precipice of realization, then he went "no, of course not. They're just leftists. Dan is a Leftist! Leftists want everything for free, that's why they hate NFTs. It's leftists that are the real problem". And then I never heard anything about him again until now.
i maintain that spaces like r/UA-camDrama are for viewers, not creators. I always cringe when I see a YT'er in there, whether they are thanking people for compliments or lashing out at people for criticism. It's like how book reviews are for readers and not writers-- the space is for discussion, not feedback
it always looks cringe to see them in those spaces, because they should be too busy to be interested most of the time. if they're not something's going on, usually lolcow type behavior
It can't be healthy to constantly read what online strangers say about you. If I was a creator, I would stay away from spaces where fans gather to talk about creators.

Years back Nerdcity made a video about youtube's bias against LGBT people in the algorithm, now he's a cryptobro who constantly rages about "woke" people. He lived long enough to become the villain.
It is the most disappointing down fall to me. I literally yelled "not nerdcity!" when I saw this video come up. The crypto thing was the beginning of the end. His NFT experiment T_T
He just found what makes the most money. Which is outrage culture. NFT's and crypto and outrage culture, anti SJW, anti-woke crowd is a circle on a ven diagram.
@@thebeginingistheend He banned me from his subreddit when I pointed out that his twitter thread explaining the NFT stuff was pointless to anyone without twitter since it had just been made impossible for non-account havers to scroll through it. I was mocking him a little for being a dumb crypto bro after he got pissy.
Man, what a wild nosedive. Their older videos are still legendary, in particular they'll still always deserve credit for being one of the main channels to draw attention to the extremely horrendous "daddyofive" situation some years back. Somehow they managed to thread the nearly impossible needle of treating it with the seriousness it deserved, while staying in character and keeping it entertaining (or maybe "engaging" is a better word). IMO the weirdest part of all this is that as NFT projects go, it didn't really seem that bad. The times I saw it explained, it looked like it was basically being used as a Patreon-style membership token, rather than the usual "investment" scheme NFTs are known for. It still begs the question "why not just use Patreon" or whatever, but for a channel that also made its reputation on analyzing the inner workings of social media etc, it seemed at least like some kind of on-brand experiment. Having said that though, I recall the teaser/announcement of it being received VERY badly on Twitter. The Nerdcity account's reaction was roughly as hostile and defensive as all this reddit stuff, with some clapback about how everyone was being incurious and jumping to conclusions. At the time I had hoped that maybe they were doing a bit, perhaps working on some kind of NFT analysis video and doing their own project so they could look into the data first hand. In the end, I guess not. RIP
It was definitely with the first announcement of their NFT project was where I jumped ship, it just really didn't track, especially in contrast to their videos on artists and PSAs on commissioning art in ways that respect those you are buying art from. I guess he always gave an air of tech-bro, tech-bro lite if you will, but somewhere along the line he veered off into a right wing pipeline. The alarm bells for me was the comments of people being 'incurious' or alarmist for having perfectly reasonable problems with NFTs and NFT culture. Doubly so when ultimately, especially in hindsight, it was pretty cut and dry that the NFT market was manipulative, unethical and not going anywhere realistically, nor does it relate at all to your everyday person.
Yeah it just makes me sad, bc Americans in general have no idea what Marxism(or leftism) even is, yet try to use it as an insult. Whenever someone does that they're outing themselves hard. Shame, I used to like NerdCity. Let's hope he comes to argue personally in these comments, too 😆
it cracks me up because you eventually get them railing against "marxist companies" and i'm like... are you hearing the words coming out of your mouth right now?
Same. It’s just a right wing buzzword that they think holds magic power to instantly piss off the “libs” when in reality it just makes conservatives look extremely goofy 😭😭😭 I cannot take old people seriously man
People who use it unironically are insufferable and mad the world is changing because they are no longer the center of it. Calling people "woke" from calling out a scam is so embarrassing. My jaw dropped when he first started shilling that NFT nonsense in that one video.
I ask them to define what woke means, and they immediately stutter and can never answer me. It is literally just a buzzword to people who it unironically.

I actually remember when Nerd first started trying to make NFT's "work" for artists and educators, and it was really clear his heart was in the right place. He trashed on cryptobros stealing art, made a project of free NFT's to both highlight an artist who was stolen from and demonstrate how you could do generative NFT's without being a total piece of shit about it, and started selling a few NFT's specifically as access passes to educational content and streams in his Discord. I think he really saw the mechanisms of the blockchain and the aphorism of "code is law" as neutral and potentially usable to the benefit of creators. So when after all that he still got little reception to the projects and got clowned on for believing in NFT's at all, he started to get defensive because as far as he could tell, he was one of the only people actually trying to do right with the tech. The problem is that blockchains and their associated techs today are just so bloated and inefficient for the tasks they do that even ignoring all the baggage that comes with the crypto label, there's only a small set of actual use cases where it's a better option than existing tech, and even there it's difficult to argue the cost-benefit. And since most of us *don't* ignore the baggage of crypto, and even total outsiders now see it as wasteful and prone to corruption, he was really kinda SOL before he even started but couldn't recognize it from the space he was in. I actually tried to explain that to him in a comment on the first podcast vid where he brought it up and complained about the way people were reacting to his genuine effort to make the tech useful to artists. It got a surprising amount of attention and likes, more than some he personally replied to, so I suspect he probably read it, but he never responded. I held out hope for a while that maybe he'd take the L and recognize that whatever his intent now was not a good time to try and create a crypto-based project, but it seems like he dug himself in so deep that he ended up digging into a rabbithole and becoming deeply bitter about the whole affair and the online space in general. Which is a total shame, because as a younger white dork computer scientist find his way into the left, his work on the UA-cam algorithm and its biases and mathematically-obscured bigotry was really helpful to me in understanding how and why the modern internet has become the way it is. And while I was never a huge fan of the "thot patrol" concept, SSSniperwolf was such an absolute POS that I was totally fine with her being called out for hypocrisy and shaming other women while lying about her own image, so I didn't see it as some early sign of misogyny or anything. Deeply saddened that this is where things led. An internet breakdown isn't "the end" of somebody's journey, and I hope he can pick himself back up and see more clearly how deep into a bad place he's put himself, but given how stubbornly he's dug himself in, I don't know... What a shame.
This is hands down the most insightful and helpful comment I've seen yet, and damn near the only one that's not just laughing it up and dunking on him (even though he mostly deserves it), and we need much more of this; ACTUAL dialogue, as much as the dunking and gawking can be satisfying. I'm extremely progressive and ALSO happen to be somebody who got intrigued with some of the tech involved with some crypto and NFTs, knowing nothing of any kind of "crypto culture" yet, only to see it get completely hijacked by reactionaries, libertarian weirdos, and most importantly, SHAMELESS SCAMMERS. Really sucks when I still see a lot of good that could come of the technology, but I don't think everyone anticipated that it would pretty much collapse under its own horrible reputation before it could ever really get off the ground. And some of that I will pin on "leftists" who just dogpiled it and repeated misconceptions and myths without actually understanding it, all because they just saw it as a tech bro thing and therefore bad. So there was plenty of blame to go around on why it failed, and so I'd imagine the only serious applications of it that will prevail will be with major banking systems, and other niche corporate uses, whatever, in ways where most of us never know it's happening. Long story short, I do think he heart was in the right place, and may still be as far as the NFTs go, but that in no way excuses all the other brainworm bullshit. As soon as I noticed he followed Jordan Peterson a few years ago I kept him at a distance. Hoped it was just from before JP had his OWN "woke mind virus" nervous breakdown, back when he was more known as a psychologist, but that was probably naïve of me to give him the benefit of the doubt there. Really a shame.
This is a great comment, I appreciate your take on this and giving insight into the why/how of it all with NerdCity and his NFT project. I just think it’s sad when a creator of his size falls from grace over a few comments (even if they were warrantee criticism, I don’t think he should’ve responded in any way). The best thing for NerdCity to do is to actually show people what good he can do with his NFTs, but I doubt anyone would listen or care.
Okay…one of the key pillars of free market capitalism is that if someone is selling something that sucks people have every right to make that known and not buy it. The theory is that people get to choose and then only the best companies and products survive. We all know that isn’t actually how it goes, but it is how capitalism works ideally. UA-cam is a business, and every creator is selling a product in a sense. You get to choose who to support, and if you think their content sucks, you don’t have to support it. That is capitalism dude, not Marxism. What makes it especially funny is that the free market (his viewers) have rejected both his content and his NFT scam….and he’s blaming Marxism….hilarious

Can’t wait for the TBH podcast to become Pyro trying to middle ground colossal and nerd being unhinged and “anti-woke” while Dolan just stays quiet in the corner
You haven’t heard? Pyro fans made fun of nerd for a bad take on trans people, and nerd couldn’t handle it and quit the podcast (called Dolan and pyro cowards for not policing their fan base to say only nice things about him too)
The fact that "cat owner spotted" is one of the few comments by him that has a positive upvote rate makes it twice as hilarious. An ironic upvote for sure
Same. Throughout the video I was picking up on some weird vibes, but just thought I might have misunderstood what he meant or whatever. But when he then ended with shilling NFTs himself, it clicked 🫠
I went back earlier this year and listened a bit to his podcast and I wish I didn't. He used to be a top 3 YT creator for me and now I just get sad AF whenever UA-cam recommends one of his videos 😥
I dunno if this has already been commented but also the cat owner comment sort of reminds me of the JD Vance quote about the country being ‘run by childless cat ladies who want everyone to be as miserable as them’. Since this Nerdcity guy seems to be obsessed with the woke being against him it could just be a common sentiment amongst those folks that being a cat person is a ‘woke left’ thing thus they hate it.
pyrocynical, dolan dark, and colossaliscrazy have a discord server for their podcast, and its riddled with people posting pictures of cats, and nerd doesnt really like that, the discord was meant to be about the podcast, not just people posting whatever (which is silly to expect fans of those 4 youtubers to know how to behave but i digress) and on a podcast episode they had a conversation about why nerd left the server and he went on a rant about it, so its become a pseudo in joke in that community. it has nothing to do with politics, or anything else.
"cat lady" has been a right-wing insult for liberals for decades now. most people like NerdCity have that similar flavoring of resentment for things symbolically representing the side of politics they hate. it's a Discord incident reference, sure, but the crossover between the two ideas is not accidental overall
10:20 it was the TBH podcast, basically, Colossal is Crazy, Pyrocynical, NerdCity and Dolan Dark Nerd was complaining about how Pyro’s fans (I think it was his fans) in the discord kept “shitposting” cat memes and Nerd was getting annoyed and began blocking people. He claimed that he wanted a “constructive discourse” where everyone could talk and be constructive. But instead it became a shitposting forum, the other 3 pod hosts found it funny but Nerd was very upset, he was trying to maintain face in the pod, but the thread the mask fell off.

oh so that’s why my old comments about a prior hysterical NerdCity meltdown are suddenly getting likes and replies again . . . times change, people don’t!
genuinely amazed that in the whole first section there was a singular mention of nerd city being maybe right wing (saying he referred to a bunch of stuff as "woke"), and the rest was just people saying his NFT's were lame but he kept bringing in "everyone's a nazi nowadays" and marxism and shit as if the woke mob was cancelling him and not the "i'm not a fan of NFTs" mob calling him cringe
i'm personally voting for this guy going antisemitic with cultural marxism and not wanting to be controlled by the banks. but i think the worst insult he can think of is probably telling someone they're gay, bc he sounds like a 14 year old in 2008 edit: CAT OWNER???? i'm sorry what
MOST people have NO idea that the cry of "MARXISM!!!" is almost always a direct line to literal Nazi propaganda. It's shocking how little people understand that. You sound like a conspiracy theorist yourself when you try to explain it, but its literally the grandchild or great grandchild of antisemitic dogwhistles used by the Nazis. *At least* he didn't say "cultural" marxism? XD I'd like to think many people who say "Marxism" just have no idea what they mean, but Nerd City has always been a clever dude, I can't imagine he just saw a buzzword on Fox and started repeating it... Idk im doing my best here. What a fall from grace. I should have realized after he disappeared during/after COVID that he would come out the other side with some seriously unhinged brain rot. What a bummer.
Honestly? I'm guessing either mental illness or drugs, while we're speculating based on vibes here. This isn't the behavior of a healthy adult, and he wasn't always this bad.
This is actual insane ranting. Like unhinged, unjustifiable behavior. Somebody close to him needs to do some kind of check-in. I refuse to believe he is of sound mind.
The funniest part is how few up/downvotes there were. Like the biggest proof he's just getting nowhere. As an entertainer, rejoice when they laugh, rejoice when they cry, rejoice when they jeer, rejoice when they applaud, but by god, despair if they aren't reacting at all.
Maybe if he wasn't twisted up, he could do a video that was actually constructive, like the Jake Paul one. He posts so rarely, this looks even worse when he should have better things to do than harass redittors 5 months after a post. I mean I wouldn't re-sub now that I saw his dark dead shrivelled heart, but if he shut up & tried to make good work he could at least stop digging the hole.
As a big fan of the TBH Podcast, I've always felt a little alienated with how violently different our views are. I always tried to ignore it because I'm a fan and politics was never a forefront of his content before, but seeing him argue in month old Reddit threads, involving random homophobic statements in his comments is just disappointing and uncomfortable. Not to mention the recent episodes of his Podcast have been getting a lot more politically opinionated All in all, I might drop his content. Coo-ish guy, amazing editing, a bit deranged, and I'm clearly not welcome in his community anymore
For real. His takes always made me so uncomfortable and he would go on like 30 minute rants about sth then go "Pyro what do you think" and it would be so awkward cause everything he said was clearly bullshit

Does anyone know if he was having some sort of breakdown or psychosis during this?

As a socialist, I've come to understand two things:
1.) Never trust any UA-cam personality's morality, just enjoy their content for what it's worth (this has nothing to do with Marxism, just a hard learned fact after 10+ years on this platform).
2.) Almost anyone mentioning Marxism has never read any theory and has no idea what they're saying.
I really want to agree, because it's getting exhausting being betrayed by these creators, but how can I watch someone without trusting that they have good morals? I only trust what D'Angelo is saying about Nerd City because I trust that he is telling the truth and has good intentions, just like I trusted Nerd City in the past with the same thing.

He's another victim of covid brain worms I'm afraid 🧠🐛😔 That's when it all went downhill.
Right? This breaks my heart.
@@peachy_lili I've liked some of Wendigoon's stuff but I feel bad for IPOS, he really shot himself in the foot. It doesn't sound like his video was thought thru, which sucks; the rest of his work, horror series, was stellar. I hope he's ok.
His cope in his podcast discord is he's the guy who likes proving what's fake and what's true about "conspiracies" but the wokies and pyro fans keep saying he's vagueposting about alt-right shit (which some of it undeniably is why be a coward about that if you're some truth teller).
Idk man he was surrounded by a couple of shitheads towards "the end" of his channel so it's hard to see if his heart is in the right place
@@sleepzy3816 Who are you talking about?

As a cat owner, I can tell you that it is so weird- SO WEIRD- how people will use "cat owner" as an insult. I don't understand it and never will.
9/10 times that I’ve seen, it’s just a person who wants to call someone (usually a woman), something way worse but they know they’ll get more flack for it so they default to something that’s not an insult, but is associated with a negative view of women, usually the old cat lady stereotype.
In short, it’s misogynists having a meltdown because they can’t treat women like subhumans and still get a girlfriend any more. Shocker 😂
Normally I see it used as a misogynistic insult against women (owning cats cuz u don't have a husband or kids as if it's a bad thing???)
Anyways in this context, there was a time where whenever nerd city tried to talk about crypto in his discord server, people started spamming photos of their cats so that's probably where the "cat owner detected" comes from
Same, cats are affectionate sweet little beings. Some are jerks but they also cuddle with you and make you happy. Cats won’t rob me at gunpoint or r**e me so I mean they’re better than people 😂
Someone already said this elsewhere but it’s probably cause cats require consent and it angers them irrationally.
On top of it often being a misogynistic insult, I find that conservatives tend to dislike cats because they're not dogs.

No it's a discord thing
pyrocynical, dolan dark, and colossaliscrazy have a discord server for their podcast, and its riddled with people posting pictures of cats, and nerd doesnt really like that, the discord was meant to be about the podcast, not just people posting whatever (which is silly to expect fans of those 4 youtubers to know how to behave but i digress) and on a podcast episode they had a conversation about why nerd left the server and he went on a rant about it, so its become a pseudo in joke in that community. it has nothing to do with politics, or anything else.
"cat lady" has been a right-wing insult for liberals for decades now. most people like NerdCity have that similar flavoring of resentment for things symbolically representing the side of politics they hate. it's a Discord incident reference, sure, but the crossover between the two ideas is not accidental overall

Not to mention the recent episodes of his Podcast have been getting a lot more politically opinionated
All in all, I might drop his content.
The way this man is fighting imaginary marxists and month old comments makes me concerned for his mental health
that nft arc really came out of nowhere it was a sad downfall
