  • This week we give you some tips to make that Mustang or Cougar dash panel installation easier. We install a Burton's Antique Auto 1967 Mustang dash bezel, some HiPo Parts Mustang LED dash bulbs, and AMK fasteners all from National Parts Depot. We also install some Dynamat sound deadener on our Mustang Kick panels.

    As a former videographer and video producer, I would like to let you all know that you really have an excellent storyboard. Thumbs up for the well written humor off shoots and well detailed description on all of your videos.........If you haven't done so, consider restoration video how tos to sell on the internet.

    Well Laura, we're sorry that you feel this way. We hope that you find what you need here on UA-cam. That is the wonder of the internet, somewhere, out there is a video that will suit your needs with perfect comedy, no distractions, and is not annoying. We hope that you find that video. Thanks for giving us this one shot! Good luck and good hunting.

    You guys are awesome. These are fantastic tips, and I've watched many other videos that you've done. Put as much goofy humor in these videos as you want! I think what people on UA-cam forget is that they aren't paying for this content. Besides, it's easy to just fast forward to the parts you are interested in.

    Well that is your opinion Show and we appreciate your sharing it with us. Most of the time the comedy bits aren't "forced into the video" we a lot of times are putting the things that actually happen into them. Including our camera man (the kid) texting when we are talking to him.

    I can understand that some folks want to see cars doing "car" things. This series is really for those that want to restore their cars. We plan to do some feature cars soon, but we want to do it right, and right means we need to spend money on gear that is kind of expensive. We will have what you want, but it will be a little ways down the road.

    The host and producer is Jeff Ford. Also, we don't mind the criticism of the show at all. We've used constructive criticism to improve the show in the past and hope that people will value us enough to let us know what they think. But we won't be removing the comedy; we're just sorry that our comedy and yours don't mate up. Thanks for your opinion Show, and you too Rouges!

  • @AutoRestoMod

    Thanks Rouge, we work very hard to pull it together. Most of the time we shoot "cinema verite" and the situations actually come about from things that happen in the shop. We have considered selling them as DVDs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Kaylee, We'd recommend getting a set of the Jim Osborn assembly manuals if you are in a hurry. Just type Jim Osborn Reproductions into your browser or contact the fine folks at West Coast Classic Cougar. We will be doing a quarter window fix on the '65 Mustang but it will be a few weeks in the making. The assembly and adjustments are quite similar.

    Honestly Christina, we don't remember. Though we're pretty sure the passenger side panel didn't have any. We love the parts that your company sells and recommend them to anyone doing a classic car. We just recently learned of Morts passing and were saddened by the news. He was a great guy and the hobby lost a great friend in 2012.

We also found the short it was the voltage gauge it was not installed correctly the plastic washers where installed wrong :(!

    Hello - Christina at Burton's Antique Auto Parts! Awesome video! I normally do not get to see that many installs of our parts. I do have a question though. All of our dash kits, 67, 68, with AC or without, all come with their own screws, speed nuts, and our own instructions. Did you not receive those?

  • @michaeltexmjs6420
    @michaeltexmjs6420 9 років тому

    Great videos! I'm having a wiring issue with my 67 gauge cluster none tach, I installed LEDs and when I plugged in the harness and turned on the headlight switch I got light then a pop and the ground wire burned up. I've heard LEDs have issues I was wondering if you ran into anything like this? I grounded the cluster before I plugged it in and still have a short, without it grounded would it cause the wires to get that hot??

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  9 років тому

      The instrument lighting has a fuse that should have popped before the wire burned. Plus the the LEDs draw less amps than the incandescent bulbs. I'd look to a shorted wire or something before suspecting the LEDs. The draw on LEDS is so low that if you use a full LED brake, turn system you have to go to an electronic flasher...

    Maybe you can help me. I have a 68 mustang 289, replaced the underdash wire harness, and now my ignition resistance wire to coil gets REALLY hot. I replaced voltage regulator and coil, solenoid is pretty new. Help.

  • @michaeltexmjs6420
    @michaeltexmjs6420 9 років тому

    I think I've narrowed it to the cluster harness because without it plugged and the headlight switch on the other wires function fine no issues, the only thing different when I restored the factory cluster was I clear coated the back of the metal housing it could be that I'm not getting a good ground. I'm buying a voltage tester and will test tonight. When I tested the lights all the LEDs worked it was only when I moved the cluster and I heard a pop then came the smoke. Thanks!

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  9 років тому

      Yep, that case is the ground for your lights, voltage regulator etc and the case grounds to the dash panel via the screws on the bottom and the screws on the top. Need clean metal on all of the Phillips head dimples and on the lower mounting tabs of the backing plate. You'll need to clean the clear off of the case anywhere anything bolts to that. you might be able to clean the openings as the bulb cleats are your ground source.

    Have having problems lining up my panel assembly, any tips...? Cheers

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  7 років тому +1

      The panel can be tricky. Biggest problem we've had has been the area by the center panel. The threaded stud will be your best bet to getting that to line up. We didn't install it on the '67 and regret it. We have noticed that the aftermarket dash pads can be deeper than originals and can cause some fitment issues. Make sure that you push the panel up into place tight and use something to locate the holes on either side of the dash pad area. set the center then the outers. If you need some more help contact Jeff at jford@autorestomod.com. Be sure to include pictures.

    • @AutoRestoMod

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  10 років тому

      We hate to be coy but, without seeing the car it depends. Rust buckets will be expensive. Good solid cars with no rust won't. Expensive depends on the shop yoou choose, how much you will do yourself and how bad the car really is. We've seen restorations go into the $100,000 range for Shelbys. And we've seen cars that were barn finds in low humidity climates that really only needed a paint job and some sprucing where the guy got out for under $10,000.

    I need some advice. So I ordered a radio bezel, only one I could find, the top left ear tab is broken off. I have the original that some young nut job chopped on or a new modern radio. take two make one. What is this metal, I want to weld it, but have no idea what type of metal it is. Is it galvanized, zinc, what is this thing made out of?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому

      It is unfortunately the lowest common denominator in metal: pot metal. Not conducive to welding. You might be able to JB weld it but without seeing it I can't say for sure.

Honestly this stuff can be as boring as a 1940s military training film so we try and infuse a small amount of comedy to lighten it. If you'll notice it is usually in the first 2 minutes of the show. Then we get to the meat.

      +handbanana19 Hopefully you will read this. From Jeff: For one, I can't find what you are talking about, on my end; the Google ads aren't appearing. For two the ONLY outside ads we have are placed four weeks after initial airing so if you want to miss the Google placed ads, subscribe and watch those when we post each Thursday. And finally...Here is my standard speech on this: This is my job. I LOVE what I do. If you work for a living I hope that you enjoy you work as much as I do. Now, imagine going into work six days a week, working an average of 10 hours each day. You work hard every day. You are getting paid, not great but paid by the ads that are at the beginning of your work. Also this work and those ads pay your associates. Now imagine a person comes along and says that they want you to work 10 hours a day six days a week for free. Not sure that folks understand that the ads pay the bills. Now if you want to pay my bills, I'll be more than happy to charge you a fee to send you a personal copy of the show (not to be shown to other people that will cost more) to view privately. So the next time you want to think that I am trying to stick it to you for my hard crafted work, remember that when you skip my ads, you are taking money out of my hard working pockets.

    • @redbear_70
      @redbear_70 5 років тому

      @@AutoRestoMod I hope you read this as well. With your comment, I agreed until you mentioned him paying your bills and the bs that came after. This may be or have been your full time job but that was your choice. No one asked you to do it and it wasn't a job you applied for. The risk is on you and you alone. Now with that said, you have to understand that most people don't want to watch any kind of ads. Some videos are also not worth the time of ads, like this one, and shouldn't be awarded the payment. Why should we have to pay for something we don't like?
