This week we install a dash pad into our resident 1967 Mustang using parts from National Parts Depot. We show how to not get lumpy A-pillar pads, how to correctly set up and install the dash pad and moldings using the original fastener locations as well as give tips for how to make sure that everything is where it needs to be before you button up the dash.

Thanks Joe! We appreciate the kind words. usually the holes will be in the middle of the raised section. But yeah, it is kind of an "eyeball" thing. We didn't want to cut slits in the pad so we used a hole punch. Make the holes about the diameter of a pencil.

I have found that taking my long handled screwdriver and placing it on a magnet (those nifty magnetic parts trays work wonderfully) for a while and let it magnetize. This will help hold that trim screw in place while you hunt for the threads in the dash. Great series, I watch em all!

Great tip Bill! We had a Magnetizer around here...but where it got to, I don't know.

You can use it on the facing where the screws go in but we find that it really dosen't seem to be needed.

    Great video series, very helpful!
I'm going for "Take 2" on my 67 dash pad replacement....this time I'm going to be more patient and get it right :)
One question: for the windshield trim screw holes, do you slit the pad or punch holes in it?
I heard you say, " ...we've got all our holes drilled", but was curious how you determined how far from the front edge of the pad to punch the holes...just eyeball it?
Thanks again, keep up the great work!!

I currently have my windshield out because I got a new paint job. I’m assuming it would be much easier installing the dash pad now but will that make the windshield install harder? Which should go in first?

I'm restoring my 68 fastback right now. I do not have the front windsheild in yet. Is it OK to do dash pad right now or will that make windsheild install difficult? Seems like now is the time to do the dashpad.

Btw, your videos are very informative and quite helpful! I noticed you did not use any trim adhesive, I'm assuming not necessary?

Maybe try to do it with the windshield out?

+Wooden Spoon Guess you could do that but you'd still have to remove the pad in order to put in the windshield.

maybe the better way to install the dash is prior the windshield install ?? No ??

It makes it really hard to get the bottom lip of the gasket to seat if the gasket is out at either end from my experience. I think it COULD be done, but you are still having to put the bottom reveal molding in after the glass goes in.

@@AutoRestoMod I did it last weekend with my 67 fastback and was thinking how they did it at the factory. The molding sits beneath the rubber so I was thinking they did it prior windshield installation. I did work at Ford
Plant Genk Belgium .....40 years ago.
