    The storm made an unexpected jog of 10 miles which spared Lake Charles. Please realize if you don't already, nobody said it was going to be 20 feet all 30 to 40 miles. The places you are not hearing that much of have been destroyed. You can not get to these places other than by helicopter or boat as they are still flooded. Lake Charles is comparable to New Orleans in Katrina in that everybody concentrated their attention there, but Waveland and other places in Mississippi were not reported on for days as nobody could get to the obliterated communites.

    This is where that god aweful unsurvivable 20 foot storm surge hit, people keep saying they overestimated the storm surge. They didn’t. Due to a change in wind direction at the last minute it spared places like lake Charles but devastated this region with that surge,

    • @newsbuster292
      @newsbuster292 4 роки тому

      Yes they did, it was 9 feet surge not 20. Nevertheless these people are obviously screwed, but they live right on the coast. With 20 feet storm surge Lake Charles and the Highway would have been completely flooded as well.

    • @thelz7909
      @thelz7909 4 роки тому

      Sorry but you are mistaken and they did exaggerate risks. They said up to 15 feet storm surge up to 40 miles inland in an area that covered more than 200 miles of coastline. I live near there and we were following advisory updates closely. They suddenly changed from saying 30 miles inland to 40 miles inland when it was way too late to do anything about it. The local news was not very helpful either. It was difficult for people to determine what the impact was going to be in their area because there was so much exaggeration to sift through.
      Try evacuating several million people with less than a full days notice and you'll see why many residents ride the storm out.

    • @shepardleonard490
      @shepardleonard490 4 роки тому +1

      @@thelz7909 Like I said, they didn't exaggerate storm surge they just missed the area it would hit. Lake Charles and the region surrounding it 100% lucked out with the surge but it got worse wind damage than expected, so did holly beach, but the 10-20 foot surge hit much less or completely unpopulated areas and even the National Hurricane center says it thinks there was 10-20 feet as the 9 foot was recorded in an area where the storm surge wasn't nearly the highest. So like i said, they did not exaggerate the risks of this storm, it has done devastating damage across the entire area, its just that the predicted storm surge hit an different and much less populated area of the coast like areas around here.
