    I live in Mexico Beach, FL, where Cat 5 Hurricane Michael wiped us out on October 10, 2018 with 160 mph sustained winds, 19' storm surge and pressure of 919 mb. I knew that Cameron was going to end up looking like we did and it breaks my heart. Lives in Cameron are now forever changed. God Bless You All. Prayers for you.

    I want to know who built the roof on the large building at minute 0:47. There isnt a single missing shingle or curl to the roof at all. Every gulf coast home and business should have a roof built like that.
    I live on the water on Florida's West Coast and I'm due for a reroofing, so I would seriously like to know the engineering behind it.
    Edited: looked it up on Google Earth. Looks to be the Cameron Pariah Police department amd nearby with similar built roof is the DMV/Tax Collectors office, which is also completely unscathed. Damn good engineering from whoever built them.

    • @nebtheweb8885

      That is a metal roof. No shingles.

    • @pso777atlantika
      @pso777atlantika 3 роки тому

      @@nebtheweb8885 is it for certain? On Google Earth it looks like actual shingles. though looking here, I did wonder if it was metal or tin. But even metal roofs tend to just get peeled away very easily in a storm of this strength. At the least some curling. Yet there is zero signs of any damage.
      Regardless of material, there must be something in the structure &/or design that changed its storm grade. Its a new building but so are most everything else around it and everything else got destroyed (again).

      @@pso777atlantika sheet metal standing seam roof. We have some great fastening specs. Plus it's a hip style roof. They always do better than gabled roofs. More than likely its a metal stud built building. I am guessing from the video but have installed many a sheet metal roof with high wind ratings.

    • @ianjustiz8968

      It's a metal roof - they can withstand up to cat 5 winds, look at Mexico Beach after Michael, similar roofs had no damage while surrounding homes were devastated.

      Google Maps shows a pretty good view. Some medium industry presence, small town necessities like schools, churches, small businesses. Rita and Ike caused severe damage, building codes were tightened, and as best as I understand as an outsider, many residents could only afford mobile homes. Sure building codes are nice on paper, but if there aren't wages to match people can't actually benefit from them.

      Mark Sudduth of HurricaneTrack had "Cam 8" mounted across from a Gas Station about 10 feet off the ground and soon as landfall came it went out (underwater). The feed was being used by the weather channel.

      There's a NOAA tide gauge that remained operating through the storm. Surge peaked about 9 feet above an average high tide, but that didn't measure the waves.
      It's called Calcasieu Pass, LA (8768094) if you want to google up the data. It also captured data on the eye - 82 degrees (vs 77 outside the eye) and 940 millibars.

      This was far from a cat5. Definitely a solid four but not a five.
      If you want to see cat5 damage, look at Michael and Andrew.

    • @morgangilley8521
      @morgangilley8521 3 роки тому

      @@justinharris5195 I'm not saying that it's a Cat 5, but it was only 7 mph from the designation at landfall. Plus the areas that Michael and Andrew hit were much more populous so it might not look like as much damage. Cameron Parish is the least populated parish in the Louisiana.
