I saw the Breeders a few years back peform Last Spash (the album live) I leanned over to my friend and said 'you know what whould make this concert perfect... if they did all of Pod as the encore'. And you know what... they did! That was some gig.
I agree, they were a good combo. They both had their own paths to follow, it seemed. When Tanya went on to form Belly, I assumed she still had more to give creatively that she couldn't do with The Breeders or Muses
i was all of 13 when i got on stage in between songs at a pixies show to ask kim to marry me... i got “will you...” out before security tossed me back into the crowd like a rag doll...
Britt Walford was being credited under pseudonyms during his time with The Breeders. He was named as one of them here, Shannon Doughton..he also went by Mike Hunt.
Snub TV was a lifeline for us small town provincial indie kids back then. We'd read the NME and Melody Maker but we didn't have record shops or concert venues nearby. This was about the only way to see and hear the bands that we were reading about.
Kurt Cobain said it was one of the most outstanding albums of his life. According to Cobain, "it's something epic that I will never let you forget your ex-girlfriend"
What a gem! routine old guy anecdote: I "ran out" & grabbed Pod as soon as it was released cuz I had an adolescent crush on Tanya & Kim and here they were, playing together. (Had a love-hate thing for Albini's production but in vast retrospect, I appreciate what he did. Last Splash was a bigger slicker album, but this one stopped you in your tracks.)
I loved this album when it came out and still do. I’ve never been able to get into their subsequent albums. Maybe because Tanya Donnelly was in it. Love Iris, Happiness…, Oh, with the Wolfgang press singer singing backup, and that ode to menstruation, Hellbound.
Kim made a lot of mistakes throughout the Breeders first decade or so. Biggest (aside from getting on dope and filling the group with dope fiends) was getting rid of Britt Walford on drums.
I can feel Kim's not comfortable here, after she spoke about it. It must be their first or one of the first public performance together, when recording the album in Scotland.
1:59 - This must have inspired Kurt to write Aneurysm which he wrote that year. He even uses the same chords - check it out ua-cam.com/video/aIr_IXXLZ8Q/v-deo.html
I didn't know that the Breeders originally sounded like Heavens to Betsy. No, obviously, Heavens To Betsy sounded like early Breeders. But it explains a lot. I'm so ignorant about my own heritage...
You heard Rock and Roll True Stories did a second video on The Breeders🎸, and they believe their history is sad and tragic😢; since they never had a Top 40 hit and weren't accepted (insert image of Kim Deal smiling while with a cigarette in her mouth). Then again, this goes with every band (especially from the 90's; worst decade of the 20th century in my opinion).
Josephine Wiggs The coolest bassist ever!
This album has the best drum sound of all time, no contest.
Im obsessed with this record
certainly up there with Rapeman's Two Nuns and a Pack Mule
No it hasn’t it’s not even close
I prefer their next drummer
The drummer for Slint performed on this album I think. Very unique sound.
Kim + Tanya is just unbelievable fusion ever.

So Kelley finally figured out all the guitar riffs after all this time?.....It was common knowledge she didn't do well trying to figure out this album
Wish Kim and Tanya have made more music together
100% what could have been = EPIC

Surprised no one has mentioned how gorgeous Kim was. Thought I'd be the first.
I was ready to comment exactly that. You beat me to it.

It just goes without saying, doesn't it...!

Heard "When I Was A Painter" in some video about Kurt Cobain, amazing song! I love Kim Deal!

Mountain Battles is the next best after this.
Shannon slays on drums

my favorite period of this band
Absolutely spectacular
Tanya's "Iris" solo, also , has a definite moody 70s Sabbath vibe...
For me, Pod is the best album of the 90's.
Nice quality on this rare clip.
Damn 4AD! 🙌🏼🤍🕊️🫡
that's Brent from Slint on drums though...Steve Albini produced this for John Peel
That was his fake name for the breeders cos he didn't want it to upstage slint
Lucy butoon??rami malek....

It’s Britt Walford from Slint. He used the fake names “Shannon Doughton” and “Mike Hunt” on the Breeders Records he played on.
BRITT Walford dude

i kind of think Iris is better than on the album wow
Yeah its great on the album too but this has something special
I didn’t know Josephine played a Rick bass!
tanya have a best hair in entire 90s
