- The Breeders filmed by Snub TV in January 1990 during the recording of their debut album 'Pod', which was released on 4AD Records on 29 May 1990.
The tracks featured are 'When I Was A Painter' (incorrectly titled 'If I Were A Painter') and 'Iris', together with a short interview with the band (but mostly Kim).
This early line-up featured Kim Deal of the Pixies, Tanya Donelly of Throwing Muses, Josephine Wiggs of the Perfect Disaster and Britt Walford of Slint (under the pseudonym Shannon Doughton). This was prior to Kim's twin sister, Kelley, joining the band and Tanya leaving to form her own band Belly.
This was filmed at Palladium studio in Edinburgh, Scotland during the recording of the album which was engineered/produced by Steve Albini.
Originally broadcast on 'Snub TV' on British TV on 12 February 1990.
Kim + Tanya is just unbelievable fusion ever.
Josephine Wiggs The coolest bassist ever!
I saw the Breeders a few years back peform Last Spash (the album live) I leanned over to my friend and said 'you know what whould make this concert perfect... if they did all of Pod as the encore'. And you know what... they did! That was some gig.
This album has the best drum sound of all time, no contest.
Im obsessed with this record
certainly up there with Rapeman's Two Nuns and a Pack Mule
@@ph8768 ME TOO!
That's all Mr Albini! Drum is so loud and in your face
No it hasn’t it’s not even close
Kurt Cobain said it was one of the most outstanding albums of his life. According to Cobain, "it's something epic that I will never let you forget your ex-girlfriend"
tanya dance ❤️
I always crushed on her. Still do.
Snub TV was a lifeline for us small town provincial indie kids back then. We'd read the NME and Melody Maker but we didn't have record shops or concert venues nearby. This was about the only way to see and hear the bands that we were reading about.
Britt Wolfard was being credited under pseudonyms during his time with The Breeders. He was named as one of them here, Shannon Doughton..he also went by Mike Hunt.
Tanya's "Iris" solo, also , has a definite moody 70s Sabbath vibe...
This album is awesome. It has an edge to it.
Shannon slays on drums
Kim made a lot of mistakes throughout the Breeders first decade or so. Biggest (aside from getting on dope and filling the group with dope fiends) was getting rid of Britt Walford on drums.
Wish Kim and Tanya have made more music together
100% what could have been = EPIC
I agree, they were a good combo. They both had their own paths to follow, it seemed.
When Tanya went on to form Belly, I assumed she still had more to give creatively that she couldn't do with The Breeders or Muses
Surprised no one has mentioned how gorgeous Kim was. Thought I'd be the first.
I was ready to comment exactly that. You beat me to it.
@@jonjennings13 I'm glad I was the first.
i was all of 13 when i got on stage in between songs at a pixies show to ask kim to marry me... i got “will you...” out before security tossed me back into the crowd like a rag doll...
It just goes without saying, doesn't it...!
maybe bc we were ok appreciating without objectifying...
Bass player is god
Josephine is so dope and underrated

Come here just for the voice crack
For me, Pod is the best album of the 90's.
Breeders with Tanya is the best breeders of all.
What a gem!
routine old guy anecdote: I "ran out" & grabbed Pod as soon as it was released cuz I had an adolescent crush on Tanya & Kim and here they were, playing together.
(Had a love-hate thing for Albini's production but in vast retrospect, I appreciate what he did. Last Splash was a bigger slicker album, but this one stopped you in your tracks.)
That's Britt Walford with lipstick.
Yes
Oh ha thx
Slint
Genius with zero expression
She was soon replaced by Michael Hunt, legend has it.
algun dia ire a un concierto de the breeders y volvere llorando al saber que podre descansar en paz.
This song has the best bass solo?, interlude? ever.
Heard "When I Was A Painter" in some video about Kurt Cobain, amazing song! I love Kim Deal!
He really loved them too. I can see why.
Absolutely spectacular
my favorite period of this band
I loved this album when it came out and still do. I’ve never been able to get into their subsequent albums. Maybe because Tanya Donnelly was in it. Love Iris, Happiness…, Oh, with the Wolfgang press singer singing backup, and that ode to menstruation, Hellbound.
Mountain Battles is the next best after this.
Damn 4AD! 🙌🏼🤍🕊️🫡
Nice quality on this rare clip.
tanya have a best hair in entire 90s
They so should have put out these versions on a 7"...
These are Far better versions than the LPs ones
i kind of think Iris is better than on the album wow
Yeah its great on the album too but this has something special
that's Brent from Slint on drums though...Steve Albini produced this for John Peel
That was his fake name for the breeders cos he didn't want it to upstage slint
Lucy butoon??rami malek....
@@faisalvazquez3289 hah?
It’s Britt Walford from Slint. He used the fake names “Shannon Doughton” and “Mike Hunt” on the Breeders Records he played on.
BRITT Walford dude
I didn't know that the Breeders originally sounded like Heavens to Betsy. No, obviously, Heavens To Betsy sounded like early Breeders. But it explains a lot. I'm so ignorant about my own heritage...
bass lines are sick AF !!!!
Iris :)
nice shannon
1:59 - This must have inspired Kurt to write Aneurysm which he wrote that year. He even uses the same chords - check it out ua-cam.com/video/aIr_IXXLZ8Q/v-deo.html
Tanya = 😃
Kim = 😌

Sorry to disappoint you..maybe she’s single?
@@bedwarsgb4523 You think she likes younger dudes ... ?
@@alongalostaway as she hasn’t shared that information with the public, I can’t tell you
lmaoo is that britt walford in the beginning?
Yes. Then hidden in the back room.
❤Kim Deal ❤
shouldve kept on the psychelic tip. keep the controllers at bay
You heard Rock and Roll True Stories did a second video on The Breeders🎸, and they believe their history is sad and tragic😢; since they never had a Top 40 hit and weren't accepted (insert image of Kim Deal smiling while with a cigarette in her mouth). Then again, this goes with every band (especially from the 90's; worst decade of the 20th century in my opinion).
100th comment
Kim and Kelly are still the hottest chicks on the scene.
10 times better than Nerveanna
I just diferent, both are really awesome
