This channel serves as an historical archive of the independent 'indie' music scene in the UK and US in the late Eighties and early Nineties and is not monetised. From a personal perspective, I perceive 1988 to 1992 to have been the 'golden years' for this scene and the majority of the videos are from this era. I collected these videos as a youth over the years and all are posted for fun/education for fans, collectors and students alike, so please enjoy. Obviously, I don't own the copyright on any of these videos so, if you do and would like them removed from this channel, then please PM me and I will take them down. I'm interested in growing this archive (and filling in the many gaps) for everyone so if you have any old VHS tapes lying around of similar material, please get in touch I can digitise them and return your tape to you . I'm particularly interested in acquiring copies of early 'Rockin in the UK' episodes, the US version of 'Snub TV' and any of MTV's '120 Minutes'.
The Cure - The Big Hand + Cut live (Snub TV) January 1991
The Cure performing 'The Big Hand' and 'Cut' live at the Town and Country Club 2 in Highbury, London on 17 January 1991, together with an interview with Robert Smith.
The band were billed as 'Five Imaginary Boys', rather than The Cure (a reference to their debut album 'Three Imaginary Boys'). This low-key/secret gig was used as something of a rehearsal for their London Wembley Arena concert (as part of the Great British Music Weekend series of concerts), which they headlined two days later on 19 January 1991.
'The Big Hand' appeared as a B-side on the 'A Letter to Elise' single, released on Fiction Records on 5 October 1992 and was later included on the 2004 compilation box set 'Join The Dots: B-sides & Rarities 1978-2001'. It was also the first time this track was performed live in concert.
The track listed in the footage as 'Away' was in fact an early version of 'Cut' and appeared on the band's ninth studio album 'Wish', released on Fiction in the UK and Elektra in the US on 21 April 1992.
Originally broadcast on 'Snub TV' on BBC2 on 4 February 1991.

This band and the corrs have to be the only bands with 3 women and 1 man.
Horseman(Derek Ryder, Dad) grooving away behind his Son Horse, if it wasn't for Derek we'd be lucky to have heard them?
Gosh! Very strange listening to this. I drove the Shop Assistants van on one tour across the UK we were all very young. R.I.P. Alex
You changed sounds so good
Knowing the story of the band, I can't help but feeling sadness for Terry Bickers at the time this was recorded for he was going through emotional turmoil.
Best concert for me well 1
Que hermosa ❤
🎉🎉😂
Definately my favourite version of 'Wrote for luck' . Better than the album version or any other remixes/ live sets etc. Happy Days
I love this version of Cut
Seemed to be the very peak of existence - top of the mountain stuff
Anyone spot the copper? Clue: he's at 11:11. 'Ello 'Ello 'Ello
God, Ian actually sounds amazing here. The whole band are killing it.
Ké bos
Horse is so melted he doesn't even look like himself 😵💫✌️😁

I was there amazing gig
She doesn’t sound Australian.
Great band!❤🎉😊
I love Kristin’s voice.
This sounds great
So missed, hope she is happy now
KRAMER'S BABIES....
Jaysus Craigs voice is very strong here.
A 16 year old Liam Gallagher saw this band this day
Their interviews always interesting and somehow, amazingly awkward!
Just to say I am here. This is important and just adorable.
Wow. That's sad. They were cute. They would have made good moms.
Wow. How sad. I guess they actually believed that motherhood meant mental freeze. They were cute.
Listening to SM commenting on NI troubles is a bit painful
I was at that gig (Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt) it was really good. Deliberately wore a Ride T Shirt and stood near the front as they had a rivalry with Ride at the time and wanted to wind them up, must say of the two Birdland were the better live band at the time, I also saw them a few years later at the Newcastle Riverside and they were dire, were like a different band.
Totally underrated what shaun done couldn't be copied bringing his best mate and giving him a career #FUCKINLEGEND
it was copied, Happy Mondays took it from Madness Dancer Chas Smith 🙏✌️
Horses bass Paul ryder your sorely fucking missed rest in peace forever
He once referred to My Nation Underground as underachieving cack! But I think this is amazing. And the guitar solo is beautiful
🍉🍊
it's very good yer know.
Tanya or Kelley? Are you kidding me?
They look pretty timelessly cool for 1989. Maybe it’s just me.
Saw em at Tuts in Chicago in 1983. Car keys got locked in the car.
tune !!
heard this song a few times in the late-80's 90's; searched for it, never finding it until 2021. coolest song....
Is this good
Interestingly, there was a little bit of conversation between the guys here, despite everything, as opposed to most of their other interviews. “We could seriously hurt people. But we don’t do that.” (almost asleep) “Naw.”
5:40 Colin Newman great vocal and guitar Wire
3:03 Bruce Gilbert great guitar Wire
2:22 Graham Lewis great bass guitarist Wire

Shut up Dad...it’s staaa’id
I might be wrong but I think shauns on something here. Can't put my finger on it. I might be wrong though.
Who's the interviewer?
