That's an interesting statement! I haven't heard them (bands) all yet, so i can't judge but i am glad that you think we're (now) less underrated than The Breeders! (Glad to even have been heard of, to be honest!) 😯/😉
Pod is probably my favorite album from the 90s. I remember being introduced to it on a tiny boom box by a girl named Hanna. Glorious and Fortunately Gone are two of my most favorite songs ever. I love how much faster and upbeat they sound here.
great comment snd without knowing the polished versions it can´t get better than this for me personally but I am a musician maybe I should shut up and write some equally great songs hands down 'you always hang around' is one of the best songs I´ve ever heard...
How come I had never heard these demos before? Pod is one of my all-time favourite records; lost none of its strange appeal in 30 years. Thanks, great upload! Kim's unique songwriting and wonderful voice shine through, here, even without Albini's production, but I have to say that the LP sounds more coherent to me. Overcome would have felt out of place on Pod, I think, though it would have been great on Last Splash (of course, finally, we've had Bragging Party, but still...) Also, I really like what Gil Norton did with Silver. The song is superb and strange as it is, but Norton added another layer of strangeness to it, making it almost otherworldly.
Oh wow this is awesome...when I think back to late 80s / early 90s I liked Belly, Lush, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, dance stuff ..I don't know..Suzanne Vega. all sorts! But I was more led by Grunge in terms of anything American, it's only now reading the book 'Facing the other way' re 4AD that I'm realising what I've missed out on! I honestly thought that Cannonball was the only Breeders song worth bothering with...just goes to show how wrong I was! ... and this post is part of my new education!! Thanx!! 👍😄
oh my god thx for this,,,, something strange happens to me anyway, i really like the original video you uploaded with the slight pitch error, it's strange but i listened the demos first than the original álbum and besame obsesed, shortly after hearing the original i was kind of deeilusioned by the speed altough i became fan of it slowly and started loving it. but anyway,,,,,, every time i listen to the original pod demos video you uploaded i get chills as the first time. thx for that
Hey, as a fan of music(especially the rare and under appreciated) I want to thank you for running this channel. For as long as UA-cam allows you, you shall be an excellent archiver
Thanks for these. I have so many different versions of these demos all with slightly different speed and pitch. It'd be great to have these released officially so I could chuck out all the others!
Thank you for sharing this, only just stumbling on it. The UA-cam algorithm finally doing something right for a change 👍 Pod is seriously one of my a,l time favourites and it was interesting to hear some of the tracks that never made it. Also Silver being on there as well, kudos… that first tracks real nice , many thanks 👍
Numerous places, this is a collection of several sources. Kim said they don't know where the master tape is currently, so that 's probably why it hasn't been released yet.
Wow loved the first track, I'm pretty sure that's not on the studio version of POD but it's amazing, sounds like Tame Impala or Talking Heads or something but it's The Breeders, love it.
ikr, when I first heard it I rly couldn't believe that it was from this band but I just think it shows how brilliant all of the members of this band, especially the members they had making pod are
@@raearare1295 Yeah, i love that POD album, first time i heard it it took me to a place so familiar to myself, love the last splash album too, although not as good as pod, i still see the last splash gang as the most definitive breeders line-up, hahaa you got me talking about albums like Patrick Bateman "you like huey lewis and the news?".
There was a bootleg CD from 1988 but I'm unsure of its quality. This video uses various sources and pitch/speed correction by me, so this is the only place to hear this exact version. Hopefully they'll put out an official release one day.
Jumped straight to Silver. My reaction, simply put, was, "No, No, Yes!". Good work! Still can't figure out those extra lines though: into pieces? candy kisses? empty cases?
I think I know the line you're talking about, I've listened to it repeatedly with my headphones on full volume and I think it's "I resign my senses, then to kiss this, cheek I breathe in." I get the sense that the song is about leaving a town you dislike, so that line is like you're kissing a loved one goodbye then breathing in, bracing yourself to leave behind the "silver" in search of "gold". I'll probably make a cover of this soon so I'm trying to get the lyrics as close as I can!
Overcome I think was the very very early seeds for Canonball, You always hang around 100% is going to become Divine Hammer & Fortunately Gone sounds a lot like Muses Not Too Soon... Neither Overcome nor You always hang around made it onto POD so it is almost a certainty that they were re-worked into the songs as referenced above... and altho Fortunately Gone did make it onto POD- it is difficult not to believe that this song at a min influenced Not Too Soon released a year later & prob the Throwing Muses most popular song as far as commercial success I think.
Mind blown by this. Tanya's vocals on an equal level with Kim's is gob smacking. If this pre-dated Doolittle that means La La Love You is a steal from Fortunately Gone! What's the line-up? 100% sounds like Dave from the Muses on drums.
When I read this comment, I thought, FG sounds nothing like LLLY. Then, I went back and listened to it again, and I heard the cat call whistle. They may have borrowed that, or got inspiration from it, to make a song with the cat call more out front. Other than that, I really do believe they're completely different songs. Nice catch though.
Who plays drums here? There were two drummers, one Is David Narcizo and who's the other? On IMDb a description says the other drummer in demos was David Lovering which is totally untrue.
@@90sArchive Thanks, now it makes sense! Lovering never worked with Kim outside of Pixies, he hasn't done side projects at all at the time, i don't know where that Info was taken from, it was made up for sure.
There were three drummers used for these demos: David Narcizo, Mickey Bones, and Carl Haarer The bassist was Ray Halliday. Kim and Tanya for guitar and vocals
These are fantastic songs, and to my ears these demos sound much better than the album versions. The guitar parts in the album versions seem to have too little low end, so the songs sound thinner and weaker compared to the demos. I think Steve Albini is overrated as a producer. Many great albums have been recorded by him but in all cases the demos of these albums sound better than Albini's versions. At least that's how I perceive it
I hate the violin in "When I Was A Painter," but I love what she was trying to do with it. I would love to hear this version with a synth playing that part instead.
The Breeders are seriously the most underrated band in music history
Saying this to my fiance tonight brought me here.

Pod was fucking epic. Not as good without Tanya she was essential
Idk, they’re a great band and should have more recognition but I’d say the Kelley deal 6000 is more underrated
RIP Steve A
From Shellac to The Breeders and then some, my favorite grundge was produced by that man. He saw the talent in the cracks.
His did a fantastic job on the album but has nothing to do with these demos
These are some of the most raw and realest tracks I've ever heard.

Overcome was on Last Splash dude it's their most popular song = CANONBALL
Albini would have worked his magic on Overcome..slowed it right down, far less jangly. I could listen to the second half of Overcome all day
Thank you for this. Overcome rules.
I think next year is a bloody good opportunity for a long overdue anniversary issue of 'Pod' with demos and other bells and whistles! ❤
