I completely agree. Spoiled rotten! I was considered to be a good DM by my group, but damn he spoils his players soooooo much. Hahaha I'm ready to be a low level peasant in his game

Ahh. Finally able to watch this. I found this video just as we were entering Gracklstugh in our weekly game, and I shut it down when you told your players to stop watching it. I didn’t want any spoilers for our game. Well, in our session last night we finally left Gracklstugh after Themberchaud razed it to the ground. Hahaha.
It wasn’t that spoilery, but still worth the wait. Great build. I’m not running D&D anymore, but I am making terrain for the Middle-earth SBG. This can be used for a number of Dwarven battle scenarios, or even a Barad-dûr stand in. I just need to make a large outer gate.

Wyloch's Armory no man thank you. I love this build. I’m gonna add candle lights into the chambers that the lava pours from to give it that pulsing glow inside.
When you first started building this, I was like, "meh.." But I quickly changed my mind as everything started coming together. This is absolutely incredible! I wish I had the space to store something like this.
It's because of builds like this that I started tabletop crafting. Outstanding!

Awesome piece! And I think this would be a great introduction back into some larger scale construction. The shape is large, but easy to build out. you have great steps. Definitely giving me great ideas!

Very Cool!!! The only thing I would suggest is perhaps giving the lava effect on the face a bit of a protruding gutter at the top so that there is more of a vertical drop. Perhaps a little thickness to the flow. Pretty spectacular. I like how you break it down into simple steps but then end up with a pretty stunning piece.
Dunno how I missed this video when it came out, but just watched this morning. Awesome results with the layering of the chipboard to create the geometric architectural elements -- I've got some ideas for that with some upcoming projects.
And "recreational trigonometry" totally owned me. Been laughing at that all day so far.

Absolutely awesome! Now inspired to make something similar for a GW Khorne setting; replace lava flows with blood flows and add a skull or two (dozen) here and there... My favourite build yet.

Something like this but ice themed would be grate for my campaign
That'd be really cool if you kept the lava but could make a nice "ice melting" effect that left exposed rock. Some white-blue ice would look amazing with the yellow-orange lava!
You could do that just with hot glue unpainted, so it looks like ice-streams!
Do icicles instead of lava?
The fact that the lava falls are modular is just so damn cool. You could totally use them for a dwarven smithing hall. I'm sorry to gush but this whole build is hitting the geek spot.
Man that really is an epic creation, builds like this make me so jealous that I don't have a large working space!

I've been binge watching your channel - not because I intended to craft any terrain (I have enough already done or in progress, and I don't need tiles like that) but because it is just really cool to watch. But now I see this and I am suddenly inspired to make some specific scenery for an upcoming session wherein the heroes invade a Chaos temple! This sort of design is very cool, and I am down with it :)

@@WylochsArmory Alright - I've planned it all out. I am going to use foam insulation instead of foamboard and go with a solid construction (so I can carve details into the face more easily) and I plan to make four (of identical structure, but with variant details) for the four Chaos gods - but the general shape will be your design and I shall make use of your excellent philosophy-of-crafting which (if you will forgive my presumption) appears to be "get it done at 80% for 50% effort so that we can actually play some games".
Too often I have struggled with making the perfect the enemy of the good (or even the completed). Your stuff always looks very good - not perfect or photorealistic, but dramatic, bold, solid and sturdy, and it always makes a "spectacle" on the tabletop.
I'm going to do this. I've got a vacation coming up. I'm going to get a 4'x8'x1" sheet of insulation board and make me a temple to Chaos Undivided!

When you convert this to Warhammer terrain that should be its own video, there is a HUGE overlap between D&D and Warhammer players and it would be great to have some videos talking about interchangeable / convertible terrain.

I know I'm a year behind, but here's what my brain did:

Looks absolutely amazing, your players are going to be blown away when they come across it! It's a shame you didn't enter it into last months guild build, I would have voted for it :) Have you ever tried the texturised stone effect spray paints you can get for vases etc? I have always been curious about how they would work out for terrain building and this looks like the perfect project to find out.
Yes on that spray paint - actually Scotty himself used it way back in his earliest episodes, years ago. I think it's great for doing rapid stone/dungeon tiles. After that you'd just be using it for the texture, and I think construction sand gives a more natural chaotic bumpy texture.

@12:10 One thing that can drastically improve a piece's highlighting is to only highlight areas where light is coming from. In the case of this underground dwarf hold, you'd highlight edges facing the lava, and maybe do a dark wash on the sides facing away/aren't exposed to the lava. On most pieces, you're going to be highlighting more towards the top, where light would shine from the sun.
Also, I'm curious if sculptamold would be better for the lava? Use it to make something with more texture, paint it like you did, then apply a gloss varnish. Or does it have too much texture to give the right look?
It would assuredly look better for lava texture. This was a speedbuild though and I am generally impatient. :-D

Loved the build. What's the benefit of using sculptamold over spackle. I have used spackle in the past and never had a problem.
Spackle tends to crack and shrink when it dries, moreso with thick applications like this

Are you sure it's safe to have those cardboard cut out dwarves so close to that lava? If they catch light you're going to piss off a whole lot of chaps with giant hats who will turn to Chaos to get revenge on you...

Agreed - it's great to find practical uses for those things you learn at school - After all, you don't think you'll ever use Pythagoras until you want to put up a corner shelf :)
@@countzero1136 Pythagoras is among the top ten most helpful guys in the world as far as I'm concerned. Such a simple theorem, nothing to it, you can punch it out on a phone in under 10 seconds... and yet, it seems to solve anything and everything that the average person will encounter on a daily basis.

Hey can you show how to make a flooded passage, a sludge farm, or a ventilation tunnel, or any of the terrain for Necromunda just cheaper than GW prices. I’m looking for ideas for those ideas. So when I get the game after the lockdown I can have cool terrain. For the ventilation tunnel I thought use a computer fan. They can cost $6.00 and up.

Why not paint it for underdark scheme? It could easily be used as terrain for a daemons of tzeentch chaos world if painted as an underdark object.

Hey Wyloch, it you get a chance try using the hot glue on wax paper for your lava effect. With a few layers it'll have dimension.
