some personal advice though. Greeble with small details. If you need to put a big piece of something make it a useful big piece of something like a door, a ladder, a window. Don't just stick on a large oddly shaped piece because it will get more attention than you want it to mostly in the form of people asking "so what is this bit meant to be."
Awesome video - and your losing yourself in the moving dish bit was hilarious. Keep up the awesome work! Thanks for the regular content during hard times...it is appreciated!
Cheers for the mention mate, adding bits and greebles to make up for a paint job is certainly something I picked up from the inq28 community where they typically paint with a very muted, grimy pallet but their models are detail rich so it works really well. Now when I build I think "would I rather be spending most of my time painting or building?" and knowing I can do either makes me more excited to start.
I really like your esthetic. I think you strike the right balance between simplicity and detail. There's an air of effortless elegance about it, like a black cocktail dress.
This is so cool!!! Love the movable dish from just...junk bits! My mouth dropped open at seeing how cleverly this was made. Love the creativity and the humor. You are better than you know!
Freaking sweet as always! That's no joke about adding more on sci-fi builds to get them looking better. Way to up the game. Oh! Those battle brothers are lost... At least they sold their lives at a high cost.
First, that intro was not cringey, unless cringey means AWESOME... (is it the next battle report?) Also, that mechanism to allow the dish to move was pretty brilliant. Thanks for the inspiration!
I LOVE the intro to this video! Great work. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to produce another educational, and inspirational, video. (Have to say ... those Ultramarines are in a world of hurt)
A novice of 6 years? OK, Luke Towan's stuff is incredible but Bill, your stuff is incredible too! I think you have VERY different agendas and you both excel at what you do. I think you've inspire many gamers to build their own worlds [cost adjusted for everyone] and you'll have brought out lots of creativity where many were hesitant before. Inspiration is Magic IRL.
So, my plan is to scale it down for 6mm, using a se of 1/32nd scale upp armored humvee bits from a thift store and legos for the comm dish. Hope it comes out as nice.
The stuff you make looks amazing and people who haven't tried anything like this before wouldn't be TOO intimidated to try it themselves. I think that's the spirit you try to go for on this channel. The stuff Luke Towan does is phenomenal but it definitely verrryyyyy intimidating to someone who hasn't done anything like that before. I am subscribed to both channels and both are great :)
It’s fun to play terrain builder’s bingo before the build part and try to recognize as many parts as possible ;D The hair curler, nanny grate, soda bottle and caps... all true classics! ;D
Love your channel, and thank you. Recently was asked to build a Coms tower and was like how? Then woke up and here's your video, thank you so much looks awesome.
Maybe its because im high, but i loved that opening scene. The story with the terrain makes it so much better. It really shows as an influence for design because Ultramarines blue and the walls are blue.
Love the movable dish - I make toy sets for kiddies and 'working features' as they used to call them always go down well (eg doors hinged with a strip of cloth) - I'll definitely give this a go!
you should consider making molds of some of the official warhammer stuff, like doors and aquillas. they are always in high demand and often in short supply. skulls too, can never have enough skulls.
After your last video I'd said i was going to try out the vallejo grime rather than the enamels I use - really impressed they work just as well without having all that cleanup to do afterwards :D --- Terrain looks awesome as always, and made me smile seeing a few 'beakies' in your army there ... I started getting into the hobby just as they came out, so feeling quite ancient :D ... Thanks for another great one!
Hey, Wyloch. Big fan here, don't downplay your awesomeness, I didn't even know the person you mentioned before you mentioned him(still don't). You're an awesome crafter, don't forget that.
Quite the impressive piece of terrain and great for the table, definitely looks like it builds on a lot you've done before. I was *not* expecting the dish to be able to rotate like that, which is honestly impressive, but I think the big takeaway for me was the simplistic but versatile nature of those I beams. Definitely a handy piece to be able to whip up for builds. Also, love the intro~
As others have said, fantastic work my friend, the final resault is perfect! The other thing I wanted to say, is that black bit that you said went on the end of roll of drafting paper, if you stop by your Walgreens pharmacies in the US, their photo departments use those for their rolls of photo paper as well! I work at one and have a rather large box of them! If you ask them for it, they may look at you a bit weird, but most should be willing to part with them (the roll ends are usually thrown away anyways)
for me it looks absolutely great, the only thing I'm not convinced Is that screen, the first time I saw it it look like a window with a green tint. may I suggest if possible a common trope of a planet being surrounded by spaceships.
thanks again for sharing this, I will in the near future be referencing this build of yours for my own coms/ satellite tower trash terrain build, though the main thing I will be referencing is your pivoting mechanism for the dish mount
This rotating dish could just be directed towards specific squads of troops to enhance them during the game ;P Or to be able to call so air support on specific areas of the terrain ;) Now you can just apply this rotation, to some turrets ;P
At 5:16 you referenced Luke Towan, I was like " Ohhh, who's that?" So I look him up.... I was allready subscribed to him too lol. Forgot his name though, he's just "that model railroad terrain guy" lol. Yeah, so I needed to add this, I don't get notifications for Luke Towan vids. I do for yours. 👍
I really like the piece, has a great look to it. I don't care for the grate on the rooftops. I've never seen that mostly cause the grates would rust much faster since the water can't drain too well but grates make great walkways since the water can drip off without too much of a hitch. Overall a great piece to build.
Beautiful piece! Yes, nothing sticks to that plastic. I bet the recycle code is #2 for HDPE or high density polyethylene. The only way to attach to HDPE is using a mechanical fastener then you can glue to the fastener.
It looks fantastic! I think you did a great job on it. Ilike the whole idea and it is so neat you were able to make everyday items look like they were made for this. Thanks for sharing this.
@@WylochsArmory Hmm well, I've found there are several brands that use different sizes that have bigger and smaller holes, I'll probably buy both a large and a small just for flexibility. Love your terrain vids man, keep em coming!
You should incorporate some zip ties into your builds. The heads are interesting shapes that look like the corners of cargo containers and the bodies make a very interesting strip texture.
Another fantastic build, man! There truly is no joy quite like finding the right greeble for the job - one that fits the size and shape that you were looking for and elevates the whole piece. What is the name of the music that starts around the 10 minute mark? I know you usually list the music you use, but I could not find that info while scrubbing back through the playback bar. I have a liveplay game coming up that it would be perfect for and, if it is from UA-cam's audio library, I would love to nab it! Thanks in advance, Wyloch!
So Wyloch I have a question. When I'm designing a Sci-Fi building, either a Habitat or even something like a medical station, what are some pointers you can give me when using a chipboard piece?
Well, it makes great walls because of its slightly fibrous surface, so you get free drybrushing detail. Never let it get too wet. I used a lot of it for these buildings, have you seen this one - ua-cam.com/video/nCP6tGBmCNo/v-deo.html ?
some personal advice though. Greeble with small details. If you need to put a big piece of something make it a useful big piece of something like a door, a ladder, a window. Nice! Finishing old WIP builds is so satisfying
Immensely!
My favorite recurring gag is "Wyloch hypnotizes himself with craft widgets"
Man I really love that denim blue on this building, it looks great
That's amazing, man. It is also very useful for WH40K RPG scenarios as a communication station is very important in most Hi-Fi situations.
Awesome video - and your losing yourself in the moving dish bit was hilarious. Keep up the awesome work! Thanks for the regular content during hard times...it is appreciated!
Kick ass build! The music was cool too. Loved the dish and the movement of the peice. Excellent job.

I love how the term greeble (also known as nurnie) from the Effects Industry has become common place.
You got me already at the point where the dish started to move! :) Amazing job!
Your Ultramarines look awesome. I love tactical marines so much.
I really enjoyed the dynamic scene at the start of the video :D
i don't think your intro was cringy. i think it's something everyone does when there's a ton of minis and terrain. it's very fun and cool
First, that intro was not cringey, unless cringey means AWESOME... (is it the next battle report?) Also, that mechanism to allow the dish to move was pretty brilliant. Thanks for the inspiration!
nice build, personally I loved the intro scene - I like when a build video starts with the use-case - helps provide context & inspiration to the build

Ginger ale and Orangeade; I see you are also a man of culture
Your 40k tables and scenery are looking fantastic Wyloch, and the best part is it hasn't cost you literally thousands of dollars to do this.

3:26 what is that cross stitching mesh's hole size? 2mm by 2mm? Looks like a holy grail material for various 40k terrain builds!
I'm not sure; it's standard cross-stitch mesh. I don't know if it even comes in a different size...
@@WylochsArmory Hmm well, I've found there are several brands that use different sizes that have bigger and smaller holes, I'll probably buy both a large and a small just for flexibility. Love your terrain vids man, keep em coming!

amazing work
Great terrain. Wish I had these tutorials when I was into 40k. Now they change editions so fast its hard to care about anymore.
What were the toy parts that you used on the dish? The bright coloured things. They look well useful

Nice work.

Can you or have you in a video explained how to bend those small pipes?
The tiny white styrene ones? I just bend them. Some people do it over a lit candle to soften them, but I just bend them.
It's pronounced Vah-yeh-ho, been meaning to say this. Love how this turned out nonetheless!
