Great idea on using a blank-face GFCI. We have this fan mounted in a guest house bathroom with a timer (before, it was a regular switch). I do not monitor this bathroom daily. The problem is that guests either do not know how to start the timer or are thrown off by the delayed start. With the blank face GFCI, I can leave the circuit on and still be able to turn it off for servicing. I may place a piece of white tape over the GFCI to prevent tampering. I know they sell covers for wall switches, but they can fall off, and I may not know if someone turned the switch off. The blank face GFCI is not foolproof, but I doubt most people will trip it.

Panasonic's fans are quite high quality, I own a few of their other fans that are 20+ years old and they run like a top

So it gets hardwired and you can't easily turn it off unless you use the test button on GFCI?

You can use a switch an GFCI plug or whatever. In Canada by law it has to be wired with a GFCI when installed into a shower

Nothing stopping you from putting a timer switch with an off or an on off switch in line... BUT different countries have different rules. UK uses ARC fault protection if I am not mistaken at the panel service.
The point in how I installed was to show you technically do not need an on/off switch with the humidistat automatic on/off and the motion sensor auto on and off.

@@sparketechReally appreciate this video. I've got a question about this, too. I've got six of these roughed in for a new build. We're approaching trim-out, so I'm in the process of ordering all of my switches. Was planning on pairing these with the Minoston WiFi Timer Switch, but I am trying to wrap my head around what @aptpupil raised: so if someone turns this fan "off" using the switch on their way out of the bathroom, will the fan still have power to detect motion/humidity when the next person enters the bathroom? Thanks again,

@@WinstonFiore If someone turns the fan off means there is NO POWER to the wiring to power the fan until the switch is turned back on. Either the fan has power to do it's thing or not.
You can remove the movement sensor if you just want it for humidity and leave it powered on.
I used this for the movement sensor, if someone does a #2 I don't want it to smell like a poo ;p

@@sparketech Ok, thank you for this reply. So it sounds like this fan doesn't necessarily need a switch then. Will run this by my electrician; thanks again,
