    Thanks man. The manual really didn't adequately describe how the adaptor needed to slide off and be inserted first. Seeing it here was a huge help. Nice job.

    8:11 saved my life. Helped me notice the adaptor is supposed to go on the OUTSIDE of the sheetrock. Mine is 1" thick, so I needed to take out the lath and one layer, but this saved me from cutting a hole to accommodate the fan's flange! Phew.

    A huge thank you for posting this video! I have the exact same model and found that the diagrams were a bit hard to read and visualize due to how tiny they were on the instructions. This was my first time installing a bathroom fan, so your video cleared up a few things that I was unsure about and gave me the confidence I needed to complete the task. I successfully installed the fan and my wife and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again 👍

    These are excellent fans! A FEW items to remember: 1. Need insulated duct run from fan to roof vent, ducting into soffit or ridge is a No-GO!
    2. Cut a 4" roof vent hole, if you don't have one.
    Inspectors literally gig every home for incorrect venting which causes/can cause mold from condensation. In 20years i've only seen a few done
    correctly!

    Just got the thin version of this Panasonic fan yesterday, thanks for the video! Not to be a know it all but just a tip, to get that sheet rock saw started you twist it and it drills a hole in the drywall to give you a start. That's why it's all pointy on the tip.

    I installed mine on top of the bracket. I had the led lighted one. Instructions weren't very clear on removing that piece you did. But this makes more sense. None the less mine worked on top of the bracket as well... It says to silicone the gaps so honestly I believe I did mine correctly.

    The adapter for oval to round is more than $90! I used a quart sized ice cream or yoghurt container and it flexes perfectly over the 3” round vent hose and over the oval vent on the fan. Foil tape it together. Saved my client $90 three times. Sweet!
    One other thing. If using the humidity sensor as the switch, do NOT join the two signal wires together. It’s very obvious when you look at the wiring diagram.
    We had an electrician on site doing some other repairs to these mud 60’s apartments. He said just join the two wires together. WRONG! Leave the wires unhooked unless running to a manual switch. Otherwise fan will never shut off.
    I should have looked on the first one rather than ASSuming the electrician knew ANYTHING. I had to redo everything he did. A wire nut was so loose that a wire fell out tge second I moved the wires. What a nincompoop. Lol

    Loved your video. I am installing mine right now. I did realize that the junction box/exhaust port piece had to be removed from the fan body before installation. I also realized that it had to be installed first. I did not realize that the bottom lip of it was below the surface of the drywall. I was going to put the junction box/exhaust port piece on top of the adjustable frame. I could not figure out how to do that. You have done it right, but what you did never occurred to me. Before your video I looked at the diagram in the manual and I did not see that. Their diagrams are too small. Thanks so much.

    Most important detail that’s not clear in the written instructions is that for “new construction,” the silver electrical/vent flange and the main housing flange both screw directly to the bracket, before ceiling sheet rock is even installed. In the retrofit, both flanges are on the outside of the sheet rock, so that sheet rock is sandwiched between the flanges and the bracket. See 8:06 and 8:40. Did you find that the machine screw is enough to hold that side of the the housing securely? I’m a little surprised that they didn’t have us install another machine screw on the opposite side or 1 or 2 self-tapping screws to hold the two flanges together.

    • @thatsadoozie
      @thatsadoozie 11 місяців тому

      I have a drop ceiling application and don’t want the housing flange to prevent drop ceiling removal. From what you are saying I could go with a new construction install and the housing flange would then be behind. Is that your understanding?

    It's not as powerful as I thought it would be, but it works very well. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGjG43--gYqIoT4Xkur2PqCrtbKwTv2h There are three options to circulate air, and best of all a remote control for us lazy people. Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It's a perfect alternative when you want airflow, but not the AC. Just might order another one for a different room. UPDATE: Bought another one like I said. They work great. Why not have two...

    Bad thing about fan being right above toilet it brings the smell from down under right past your nose.
    I hooked up a fan next to toilet so to catch any and all lingering smells.
    So I cut out dry wall next to toilet making sure to get in between beams hooked up fan ran ducting up through wall to other fan replaced drywall patch it up repainted I made a nice cover for it attached it what can i say.
    Never any smells any more who like smells from down under anyways not me.😎
    Also if you hook up fan in attic some where else farther from bath and attach larger ducting to it hang the ducking over vent of bathroom you'll never hear your fan either youll see what i'm talking about when you do it just because they call it a bathroom fan doesnt mean it cant pull air out from another spot so too make your stay a better place when relaxing on the toilet with out noise.

    I mounted the Flex-z-fast bracket as instructed, but it's too far above the sheetrock, and I cannot bring the motor housing's lip over the sheetrock, because the Flex-z-fast bracket is banging into the electrical housing, preventing it from descending enough below the opening to externally fasten it. Looks like I have to lower the bracket an inch or so to make this work. I don't know why you didn't run into the same issue.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  3 роки тому

      Your z bracket should be touching the sheet rock on the top side. If I'm understanding the issue you should lower the bracket and try again.

      @@TheHandsOnChannel Yes, that's what I had to do. The fact is, I put the bracket against the bottom of the joists like the instruction said, but that raised everything up too high, so I had to lower them about a half inch so as to allow everything to be flush with the surface of the ceiling on the underside of it (The power and fan module where are the problem. My issue is, how do you know that you are shooting the screws into the actual bracket because once you put the fan unit in place, you can no longer see the bracket?? Every time mi shoot one of the four screws, it feels like it’s just going through straight drywall/ceiling.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Make sure to attach the bracket to the studs in the ceiling first before you screw in the fan housing. If you already did that step and it still feels a little loose, that's okay. Mine was a little like you described, but I could tell when It started to go into the bracket. Maybe try some longer screws? Oh, also make sure the bracket and fan are lined up in the right direction. I put mine in 90* out of alignment the first try. Good luck!

    There's nothing wrong with the instructions, there's pictures for those that don't comprehend english to follow. If you needed this video, good for you.

      You're the first person I've heard make that claim. Do you work in the panisonic manual department by chance. LMAO! Really though those instructions are terrible. I think it's because of the pics that it sucks.

      Panasonic makes the best bath exhaust fans in my opinion.
      Panasonic m# FV-0511VK2 (Exhaust fan only- no light or heater on that m#.) Exhaust fan has 3 different CFM settings 50-80-100.
      Also has options for plug and play modules if a motion , humidity sensor or timer is desired for control.
      Really Quiet-Good Quality Product

    I don't like this video because you only film video clips "after" you complete a step rather than showing "how" in the video you complete each step. Like where do the 2 self tapping screws go? How is the Z bracket positioned over the hole cut out in the ceiling? I didn't find this very helpful. You look smart, but are not providing much helpful detail.
