I love these kind of comparison video which is a blessing coming from motor journalist such as yourself bro. Big up! Keep it up, your channel one of my most favourite. Question though, 1. How is the sound / audio system? Music very important for us drivers in day to day so it matters alot. How do the two compare? 2. Maintenance cost of both? 3. Noise insulation, how different are they really? Slightly? Noticeably? 4. How does these compare to the mazda brothers? (Cx30 and cx5 even)
Thank you, it makes all our effort worthwhile with comments that appreciate our work. As for your questions: 1. How is the sound / audio system? Music very important for us drivers in day to day so it matters alot. How do the two compare? The two are quite evenly matched in that sense as both are not using high end audio systems. For me, Apple Carplay and Android Auto matters a lot as I listen to music from UA-cam Music and Apple Music. 2. Maintenance cost of both? This is best answered by a long term owner so we will try to arrange an owner review. 3. Noise insulation, how different are they really? Slightly? Noticeably? About this, the Toyota has slightly better refinement. Not to the point where the Honda is annoying but just a tad better. 4. How does these compare to the mazda brothers? (Cx30 and cx5 even) They are of a different segment, so they are not evenly matched. The CX-30 is a very nice car but it is quite small. The CX-5 is much nicer to drive thanks to Mazda's GVC Plus technology. It is also more powerful and better refined.
UMW Toyota mmg berkira sgt dgn msia market..UMW yg mburukn Toyota image dgn provide limited specification..look at Toyota in Japan domestic..they provide the best
I have a 2016 Toyota, the camera is really blur. Only after warranty expired, I changed the infotainment and camera, which is very much clearer. I agree with you, Toyota and Honda are multi-billion dollar companies and opts to install cheap cameras instead. Come on it’s 2024 !
UMW Toyota used to ask up to RM 6k+ if owner want to opt for the HU with low res display and blurry surround view cameras on some models. They are still using the same cheap quality HU and cameras in 2024
The proverbial missing Honda volume dial!! -- apart from installing the steering wheel on the wrong side, these are interesting options to civic / corolla sedan. - Great review!

I'm in the market. I have to go with the Toyota strictly due to fuel mileage. Toyota also offers a non hybrid Corolla Cross. Which would have been a better comparison.
I'm usually not a fan of overly long videos, but I watched every second of this and enjoyed your presentation! I understand that they aren't in the same segment and you've also addressed this to another commenter below, but I'm curious how:- 1. Toyota Corolla Cross and HRV line up against the new CX-5 (2.0 Mid version). I really like the look of the CX-5 but I'm a little worried of its datedness, being a 7 year old model essentially. 2. What other alternatives would you suggest for someone not looking to spend more than RM150K and is only targeting SUVs to combat floods. Appreciate your help. Thanks!
Hi, think you asked something similar in a separate video as well. Thank you for taking the time to watch our videos, we strive to be as informative as possible. As for your questions: 1. The CX-5 is bigger than the HRV and about the same size as the Cross, perhaps bigger in some areas. But overall, the Mazda is much nicer to drive and feels more premium as well. But you are right to think that it will get dated very fast. We hear the new CX5 will be launched next year, so you can expect it to be here in 2 years. 2. For that price range, you could consider the Proton X70 which is quite a big SUV and well below your budget. If you have a family, the X70 is also quite family friendly when it comes to storage and leg space. Try to go for the 1.8 version, though they have discontinued that model, some dealerships might still have it. Also, as we suggested in an earlier comment, do check out the new Honda CRV if you can up your budget a little bit. All the best.
@@PistonMalaysia Thank you so much for the reply. We have a small family of 3 only so size is not really that big of a concern. The wife prefers a Japanese car so proton is out hahah. Would you say the new facelifted CX5 2.0 MID is worth the price? I've not seen many comments about the mid, it's always the high model that is reviewed. For me currently its between CX5 v CX30 v HRV. Thanks again brother!
HRV radio volume can be adjusted on the steering wheel. HRV back seat look to be way more comfortable! Very very good comprehensive review young man! My first time watching from Winnipeg Canada!
Did we just missed out on one key point on how Toyota TNGA platform is purported to have better cornering ability while at the same time allowing a more comfortable ride? I think the host made an assumption on body roll on cornering by inference to the softer suspension.
That's a tough one. Both are comfortable at the back, but the seats of the Corolla are probably better. However, the front seats are quite big and this can hinder the forward view for backseat passengers, and that will not help with motion sickness.
You got the power facts wrong sir, the Corolla cross comes with 139PS, 172Nm; HRV Turbo 178PS, 240Nm. The Cross is a little underpowered for a Light SUV.
Toyota's quality is better than Honda and it's overall more solid. With Honda you get rattling sound inside the cabin even with new cars. Check out the kerb weight of both Corolla Cross and HRV. The Cross is almost 200kg heavier than HRV which feels like tin can.
I've had a Honda HRV for a month now and I can assure you that the level of quality, finish and fit is fantastic. I have had cars from both brands and my perception is that Honda is a little above in terms of quality.
"The foot brake of the Cross reminds me of my grandfather's W124" 😂😂😂 That Cross is a GR version. Already added plenty of upgrades aka bell and whistles, aesthetic wise. The normal version of Cross is so outdated and looks aged 😢 The HRV on the other hand is just the V spec, looks so much more sharper and sleeker, not even the top of the line RS.
i cant stand the Honda's resonator located under the driver which is clearly visible , the Toyota is definitely more refined especially for long distances...probably will take neither 🤣
Depends thou in the Malaysian market Toyota only equipped the Cross with the ancient parking foot brake, the older 4th gen toyota hybrid system and. 1.8 engine…
Buy car for 5 or 4 people? That bonggol hrv middle rear seat too bad for long journey Spare tyres? Hrv not provided..repairing kit just useless if u had side wall crack of the tyre in rural road area..good luck
Bro, your beard is already white and the toyota still does not appeal to you. So who are the older folks? Those over 75 years old?🤣🤣 Having said that I much prefer the CX-30, even though I am old too.
The HRV looks futuristic and definitely a head turner.
That HRV extra boot lower back seat trick sold it to me! Excellent explanation
My wife just buy me a cross as a birthday gift..but i have to pay monthly..she just paid 1k for booking fee..how smart she is😂

Is there a 7 speed CVT transmission?
The HRV audio volume can be control at the steering wheel fyi
Even underpowered u can steadily drive 160-170km/h.. Sufficient enough for me. Manual mode for cornering and climbing...not bad..

HONDA HRV HANDSOMELY DESIGNED SUV LOVED IT
I really love your review brother. Please continue the great work 🫰🏻
You complain HRV in malaysia is underpower? do you know SG version doesn't have turbo
Perhaps more economical then? Good thing since SG fuel prices are so high.

no blind spot monitor
Use eyes to see for blind spot.if you dont want to see or lazy to see better dont drive or buy Tesla it can drive for you.😊@kingkaver3378
Go for Honda HRV.
Isn’t HRV 4 seater and Corolla Cross 5 seater?
I'm contemplating between the Cross PHEV and HRV PHEV. Watching your video, I'm leaning towards cross.
If you can live with the foot brake..
Thanks to you i have finally decided which car to buy. Nice review.

For nvh on hrv, try change your tyre to michelin tyre. It reduces your nvh level noticeably + more gripper tyre 👍🏻

Soft suspension does not equal to body roll?
Why did Honda discontinue this design, please?
Cross road tax expensive n soon fuel consumption is high 1800cc
which one more comfortable for rear passengers and wont make them drowsy?

Crv vs cx5 pls

I have already purchased a Honda ditching Corolla Cross. Lets see.
Which one has a spare tyre?
I have only tested the HRV and they come with a spare tire. Not sure about the Cross.
Cross also have spare tyre

The HRV has 134kw/182ps and 240NM
Honda HRV vs Toyota CHR
Honda ZRV vs Toyota Corolla Cross
No ZRV in Malaysia 🤷🏻♂️
I suspect the naturally aspirated Toyota engine will last longer and with less maintenance than the Honda.
long term use and resell value, definitely toyota. hrv design doesnt age gracefully imho.
honda hrv turbo is powerfull..unless the sport car reviewers ...i will go to honda hrv full spec..cross is a bit old school interior..
Hrv first impression look wow. After that look boring. But cross first impression look naah. After several time look unique and muscular
Honda looking better than cross.
