    The salesman's main job is to conceal the reason you shouldn't buy the product. I like this refreshingly down to earth engineering overview. With your honesty and integrity AMD, I don't think you would make a salesman. This is meant as a compliment by the way. Thank you for this product insight and Happy 2022 to you Sir.

    I love this added dimension to a new car review. We typically don't get the nuts and bolts explanation to how everything works together and your review is very much appreciated. The Cross looks to be the perfect entry level vehicle for a starter family or someone that needs a high quality/reliable vehicle which won't break the bank. Toyota hit a homerun to offer such an important vehicle to fill a particular niche in their lineup.
    Happy New Year brother. 2021 has been such an awesome ride together with you and I know that 2022 will be even better yet. BTW, Congratulaions on surpassing 200k subscribers. We purchased a FWD XLE model in November for my wife and have loved it. This is our first CVT vehicle and even though it has “Direct Shift”, the driving dynamics still takes some getting used to (for me at least). But this Corolla Cross fits the “practicality” bill for all of the reasons AMD points out. Although it adds a lot to the cost, I do suggest the Audio Plus W/ JBL and Convenience package (moonroof and power rear liftgate) if in your budget. You will be surprised how sharp it looks in person too, as videos and pictures don’t do it justice! Glad to get AMD’s initial “blessing” 😊

      I test drove a model without the convenience package and audio plus. The extra system definitely helps, my GFs RAV4 doesn’t have any audio plus and she has to have her volume up pretty high and its not quite as crisp. Love my cross, wouldn’t want another car, only thing I might trade it in for would be a hybrid version with a little more power. If you have ever driven the newer corollas, it will feel very similar. The car is relatively quiet atleast to me..(I have a modified WRX and FRS), and the only time it gets loud is when its trying to merge on a freeway. As for leg room, I am 5'5 and it is plenty of space for me in the back. With how I sit in the front driver side, I still have relatively alot of leg room in the back . This comment is VERY important to know for current Corolla Cross owners!
    Apparently, there is an ongoing issue with the Corolla Cross's Auto Start/Stop feature. But it only happens when the wipers are in intermittent mode. Basically, you came to a full stop and the car shuts off to save fuel (and your wipers are on in the rain). Once you take your foot of the brake, the engine will not start up again and the gauge screen will have a warning that says: "Steering Power Low, Press Brake Firmly to Restart". In order to fix this, put it in Park, then shut off the car and turn it back on again. Then you can drive away safely. There have been at least a couple dozen people who have faced this once, and some more than a few times. Some Toyota dealers are saying it is a software issue, but there hasn't been a recall for this yet. It's an interesting problem that I wasn't expecting, but Toyota needs to act on this fast, before any people get hurt. In the mean time, if you drive a Corolla Cross, disable the Auto Start/Stop feature or don't use your wipers at the same time the engine is off at a stop light. I'm sure this problem does not occur for every Corolla Cross, but the chances of it happening are increased if the above conditions are met.

    • @tecnaman9097
      @tecnaman9097 9 місяців тому +2

      I'm thinking that issue you describe might only apply to US manufactured Crosses? I have a 23 petrol /gas Cross down here in Australia and haven't heard of this issue. As far as I know the one's we get are TMC Japan manufacture and don't have the stop start feature. No recalls so far. Very happy with mine. Only downside is the 650KG max towing weight.

    I am very impressed with this presentation and explanation of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross. There is no sales person who has the knowledge, patience or desire to explain things in such detail. Informed consumers are more likely to make a purchase, and given the Toyota Corolla reputation for durability and reliability, it would not be a hard decision to buy this model. I am probably going to look at a new vehicle in a couple of years, and all I need is an evaluation of the interior layout and noise levels at highway speed. Smaller cars tend to economize on sound insulation, but if car makers are smart, they would add sound insulation to give a smoother ride. There is nothing wrong with adopting existing technology, because that tech is proven and works.

    I actually owned this engine/ transmission configuration in my 2020 Corolla SE. I owned it for a year and sold it. There was often a really hard abnormal shift when coming out of launch/1st gear into the CVT. You'd agree if you owned it for a year. Also, equally annoying was it would redline on simple acceleration typically around 35 mph when giving it just moderate acceleration. If you research and look on the forums for this you will find other people complained also.

      What's up with Toyota fanboys being overly fixated on making bold claims about how they can drive the car for 20 years. Are all Toyota fanboys poor? Why do you want to drive a barebone, underpowered, underequipped vehicle that is "outdated" the moment they release for another 20 years?

    I lost my 2007 RAV4 V6 in the Ian Hurricane. I loved that car even though I had 140,000 miles. It had a tremendous 3.5L engine with 260+ hp. My insurance gave me $9,500 for my RAV4, and I replaced it with a new Toyota Cross L AWD for $26,750 OTD. It was the best deal I could find, and even though it is not the fasted or flashiest car, it seems practical and reliable. I just found your video about the Cross, and it confirms that I made the right decision and that the odds are that this will be a reliable and long-lasting car. Thanks for your videos. May I compliment that Toyota dealership on the cleanliness and neatness of the shop area. Not a spot of oil on the floor. In fact you could probably eat off the floor. I served a career in the Air Force and we could always tell the quality of the maintenance of our aircraft by how well the hangars were maintained. Believe me this was a big deal and the Deputy Commanders of Maintenance (DCM for short) always wanted to see a professional and clean hangar so to avoid foreign object damage to a multimillion dollar jet engine(s). Probably more than you wanted to know but I was impressed!

      If for example, I visit a mechanic and his garage looks like the famous video-star uh, "mechanic", I go find somebody else to do the work. AMD's workspace is how I like to see it.

    Thanks for another honest and informative review. The Toyota Corolla is famed for being one of the most reliable cars on the market, and now it comes taller, roomier, and with AWD. A starting MSRP of 22K makes Corolla Cross a good buy. You mentioned the AWD uses the same setup, mounting, differential, and transfer case as the Camry and Avalon because of the new TNGA platform; even the suspension is similar. Clearly both a production advantage and consumer benefit.

      Anyone looking at this should do themselves a favor and look at a hybrid Maverick. The base model is $20k with a hybrid powertrain standard 0-60 in 7.6 seconds compared to this slow 10 second model. The Maverick is 2' longer and is way more practical than the the cross. The Maverick hybrid system is very similar to a Prius and gets 43 mpg city. Why this vehicle along with the hrv and ch r exists is a mystery. Overpriced and not very practical. Ford flipped the script and made the hybrid standard. You would have thought Toyota would have been the first to do that. I guess they figure Toyota loyalists will always pay more for something even if another mfg makes it the standard base option. I'm sure the hybrid version of this model will add $3k to the price tag.

A lot of auto manufacture, whether it's Ford or Toyota, Lexus or BMW, have deploy Direct Injection systems in their newer generation of engines and the #1 complaint I have heard is the loud ticking noise. What on earth was Toyota thinking by making the oil filter so accessible? You would think a company with Toyota's engineering resources would know that the oil filter is supposed to be buried in a corner of the engine compartment where you can barely access it, directly above exhaust components and the subframe structure. How are DIY-ers supposed to take any satisfaction from doing an oil change without frame components getting bathed in old engine oil and the exhaust smoking on start up? Ridiculous! At first glance it does seem simple although after watching the (2) part video on the engine in this vehicle, I find it anything but simple. Since the heart of the vehicle is the engine, looking at the specs and component breakdown, this is quite possibly the most complex gas engine Toyota has put in a sub 30K vehicle. Technology is not a guarantee of progress, let's give this engine 7-10 years of in the field use in all conditions before we get carried away.
