Both good cars for that segment. Not a lot between them to be honest. If I were shopping it'd probably come down to my feeling about the dealership and what they offered as the out the door price. I'd just add that if I found the seats to be as uncomfortable as you suggest that'd probably be a dealbreaker.

She is trying really, really hard not to say the HR-V is slow and the engine sounds like a tractor motor while getting bad gas mileage (the CR-V is bigger but gets better mileage). Not sure what Honda was thinking coming out with a car that is notably worse than the CR-V but costs nearly as much.
The same thing that Nissan was thinking when they launched that slow selling Rouge Sport when the Rogue gets significantly better gas milage, bigger and I guess better 🥴
@@AyoBrownKid The Nissan story is actually pretty funny. The rogue sport is actually based off of the European QashQai but they had to modify it so much to make it compatible with US press standards that they consider it structurally almost a different vehicle. I think the rogue sport is actually a pretty well-rounded vehicle as far as its cabin and exterior goes. It's just unfortunate that jatco transmissions are so questionable

And she did a pretty comprehensive comparison between the two covering aspects I haven't seen in comparisons of these two SUVs by other youtubers like how the Corolla Cross has a more accurate steering and more comfortable seats, for example, which are important to me. Interesting that she found the Corolla Cross slower being that it's more powerful and lighter; maybe the calibration of the CVT has something to do with it. Against the clock, however, I think the difference in acceleration would be negligible. I live in Colorado Springs and at over 6,000ft elevation the new HR-V seemed dangerously slow when I tested on highway merging, in city driving and mountain roads. I test drove both and went with the Honda EXL. I love my new car. The Toyota was a little too boxy for me but still a good choice for someone looking for that style. LAUREN, love her!!!! I was so happy to see a woman presenter. Great Job!!!
i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
The lack of passenger amenities in the rear is a huge misstep in my opinion. You're absolutely right, it's those rear seat passengers (my kids, for example) that are going to want a way to keep their phones or tablets charged on a road trip and not having that as even an option on the highest trim level is odd. Same goes for the lack of a center console.
Excellent comparison review. You presented both cars exceptionally well. The lag during acceleration is a characteristic of the CVT transmission. I think both cars are equally matched as far as size and technology . I think the as tested price will put the Toyota in the winner spot.

I purchased the Corolla Cross XLE and I totally agree with her. Test drive it before you buy it. I honestly would not have purchased it if I would have test drove it. The vehicle is really cute but the engine SUCKS. There is a real LAG, it has no get up and go about it. And when in cruise control its even worse. It scared me the 1st time I had it in cruise control and it accelerated, felt like it stomped the gas pedal to the floor then took forever to get the speed back up. And going up hills is HORRIBLE, I actually down shift to get up hills which is horrible since I live in a very hilly area. According to the dashboard im getting 28.7 mpg but im still on the fence about that. Overall the look is great but the engine has a LOT to improve on. Unfortunately I wasn't able to test drive this vehicle because there were none at the dealership, then I pre-ordered it on February 12th and didn't get it until July 25th even though I live 150 miles from the manufacturer. I like the taller stature/ground clearance of the Cross especially with the XLE's larger wheels (I hate scrapping the front bumper or splash guard when parking), and also the rear vents, rear USB ports, and arm rest would be the winning point if I ever had backseat drivers except I don't and I don't intend to ever. This isn’t a head to head review. This is why I like the Toyota cross spoilers (two USBs in the back). The entire video has the other HRV in the background I don’t have a horse in this race but it was obvious from this video that I might have stumbled on to a Toyota commercial. I think Toyota makes great cars and trucks. But I expect an unbiased video from a Edmonds. This is what I usually see in those car sales people videos on why you should buy the car they are selling.
And no rear USB so passengers back they are going to be asking you up front to charge their devices up front or run a long cable to the rear. HRV sounds like a big fail.
Lauren, you didn’t say anything about the lack of rear air vents in the Honda HR-V, or mention that the Toyota Corolla Cross has them. As a parent with 2 kids that is something that is needed. My family has had 14 Honda cars, we feel they have gotten cheaper in what they are not providing. They are using the same dash on almost all of their vehicles, We will be purchasing (3) 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid this time around. Good bye Honda
The new Corolla cross and hybrid model make it a total win against the hrv in my opinion also the hrv is lacking some much needed creature comforts that the cross has no heated steering, no Bose sound system, no arm rest, cup holders or rear charging! If these things where fixed I would choose the hrv over the cross and the cross has a powerliftgate!!
I jump around on these reviews. When comparing almost identical (interior) cars you might want to label which car is which in the video for none linear viewers.
Why didn't you guys just wait to review the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross ? I think it would be more fair to compare the 2023 Honda HRV to the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross.
What's updated with the 2023 Corolla Cross and when does it roll out? I'm sure they'll continue making reviews between competition so just give it time.
@@ALMX5DP The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross comes with an Hybrid option which produces 194hp and and Toyota estimated 37 mpg combined. The vehicle is also updated to the latest Toyota Safety System 3.0 and now host Toyota's new infotainment system. They are expected to be available by the start of this fall.
Obviously they would like to do as many videos as possible so that they milk out more views. But to be fair, even though the new updates have been announced, it hasn’t gone into production yet. Heck, even the Venza and Rav 4 which were updates a couple of months before Corolla cross didn’t go into production yet! I’ve recently heard that the 2023 model venza will go into production in October and we might see them in showrooms by sometime November. And no rear USB so passengers back they are going to be asking you up front to charge their devices up front or run a long cable to the rear. HRV sounds like a big fail.
@@edmondlau511 huge fail for sure! Prices are getting crazy..
@@gigi9467 remember when you could get a base model Corolla or Civic for $12k brand new?
@@edmondlau511 damn, i remember almost buying a covic for 15k and splurged on a accord for 20k lol
Hrv is awesome and too many reviews doing off road with street summer tires as people who go off road choose off road tires All terrain tires
They are using the same dash on almost all of their vehicles,
We will be purchasing (3) 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid this time around. Good bye Honda
The HRV looks like a catfish
Better off with the rav 4 Corolla cross and HR V has a cvt transmissions
The new Corolla cross and hybrid model make it a total win against the hrv in my opinion also the hrv is lacking some much needed creature comforts that the cross has no heated steering, no Bose sound system, no arm rest, cup holders or rear charging! If these things where fixed I would choose the hrv over the cross and the cross has a powerliftgate!!
I jump around on these reviews. When comparing almost identical (interior) cars you might want to label which car is which in the video for none linear viewers.
I t would be nice to compare 2023 models years as the Cross has hybrid at 194hp
I like the cross but it was marked up way to much and agreed it is basic looking so I’m very happy with my C-HR
Love this lady presenter.👍👍
What about fuel economy fue consumption??
Corolla cross is far superior in fuel economy ...and resale and is much cheaper.
According to my dashboard I get 28.7 mpg in my Corolla Cross XLE. I've only had it a month and only taken it on one roadtrip so only time will tell.
Love to see the representation here 🙌🏾 Please keep her around. She's great!
She is great. More of her
Why didn't you guys just wait to review the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross ?
@@romairoblackstock5100 sounds like a comprehensive update. I'm sure then another review will come out once it's available.
So even if they wanted to do a comparison with the 2023 cross, they might have to wait until next year for that!
The Cross Hybrid is the easy winner here.
This girl could sell me sand in the middle of a desert. Too cute. Looking at the Cross.
i love her.
