    I test drove both, the Honda HRV is leaps ahead of Toyota in build quality. I’ve owned Lexus and Toyota exclusively but the new Honda interior style and quality won me over. Just bought the 2024 Honda HRV, my first Honda ever. Toyota has work to do, the Walmart interior is a snooze.

      nahhh you just have a change of heart. I used to love Hondas and acuras after owning more than 5. Turbos got me discouraged so I switched to Yotas over a decade ago and did not disappoint. It all leads to personal taste both are great brands. It just depends on your priorities. I prioritize more now on engine reliability,refinement on esthetics is just an option lol.

      I also come from a Lexus only family and no way is Honda better. I traded in my fully loaded gen3 RX350 for a CC to save money during my long commute. Honda has a few soft-touch pieces, but that's it. Honda's interior is as cheap as it gets. The rear console's empty cubby with no USB ports is better than Toyota's rear A/C console? How? Honda did not change the seat design between the base and the sport model, how is that better? Hollow arm rest with horrible cup holders. For $1,800 more you can get a Nightshade over a HR-V Sport with a lot more features and an AWD hybrid system.

    I’d say a gas Corolla Cross XLE is more comparable with the HR-V due to similar engines and equipment. The CC SE Hybrid ends up being a bit more expensive because of the electrified powertrain.

  • @barbz_zayne
    @barbz_zayne Рік тому +60

    The Corolla Cross XLE AWD would be a better fit for this comparison, as it has a more equivalent 0-60 time to the HR-V with its 2.0L (169 hp). The XLE is about the same price as the HR-V EX-L, however the mpg is a substantial difference. HR-V is 25 city 30 highway, whereas CC is 31 city 33 highway (with a slightly faster 0-60 time). The XLE also adds a 7 inch digital gauge cluster, power driver seat & heated front seats, fully LED headlights, and dual zone climate control, equivalent to the HR-V. Some things that the Corolla Cross XLE has over the HR-V EX-L:
    -Ambient Lighting
    -Power Tailgate
    -Rear Seat Air Vents & USB Ports + Fold Down Armrest
    Not to mention, Honda has had a large amounts of recalls lately, and their brand trustworthiness is downfalling. The HR-V currently has a problem with the back glass randomly shattering with the rear defroster active, yet the Corolla Cross has proven to be the more reliable option. Personally, I would skip the HR-V mainly because of the lack of rear seat amenities and the very very slow powertrain, and get the Corolla Cross in either the XLE AWD or XSE Hybrid AWD trim.

    • @isreyjr7201

    • @thebonniewong
      @thebonniewong 3 місяці тому +2

      I think I will be picking the Corolla Cross simply because of the Hybrid option! The MPG is uncomparable. I do like the upgraded trim and more futuristic looking aesthetic of the HR-V but it's a bummer they didn't bring the hybrids into the US market. Big fail there. As they said, we need more hybrid options on the market!

      I just wanted to check by myself but I already knew that the Small 4 Cyl Turbo Hybrid it’s a non reliable engine.
      So I did the right thing and I bought the 2025 Honda Pilot V6 Natural Aspirated 10 speeds.

    I bought a 23’ Corolla Cross XLE AWD a few months ago, after cross-shopping it against the HR-V. What swayed me away from the HR-V was I didn’t feel it was as valuable per $ against the CC.
    The HR-V not having a power liftgate, rear cup-holders, rear air-vents and less chargers on the top trim was a big problem for me. Why does Honda not care about passenger comfort? The CC offered more, so I went with that.

    Just got one and upgraded from 22 civic - it’s the same acceleration as a civic sport 2022 due to same horsepower and engine. These people comparing have never test driven this car. Y’all have no idea what you’re talking about it accelerates perfectly fine, it’s not a damn race car. It’s a mini tank that is safe and reliable which is what most people look for in a car- go get the type R if you’re complaining about acceleration and HP lol - and older Honda may have been more power but the new 4 cylinders are so good and efficient they use less power compared to older Hondas. 😂

    These might be two of the most dependable CUVs in this size class with the best resale value, but they are the least compelling among all CUVs in this size classification. They are the pragmatic choice. You're giving up comfort, interior quality, features, performance and style. You've got the Chevy Trax, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, and Mazda CX3, and Subaru Cross Trek, all of which are vastly more stylish and offer more character and driving performance for the money.

    Great objective review video Drew and Mason! I’ve researched some of the Honda models. Being a diehard Toyota fan I will gladly choose the Corolla Cross over the Honda. Just my personal opinion. I’ve trusted Toyota quality for a few years already! Now if Nissan came out with something comparable then maybe after owning the Nissan Altima SR for 9 or so months (for me personally it was an excellent alternative to the Camry). And that’s saying something coming from a “Toyota” owner! Thank you for sharing this with us! Mark in Iowa.

    Kind of an apples to oranges comparison here, especially since you are comparing the highest trim Honda model to a mid level trim HYBRID Toyota. There is also a huge difference in the design and durability of the transmission in each car.
    A more honest comparison would be between the Honda and the Toyota non-hybrid XLE model.
    But if we stick with your comparison, I'll take the higher powered better mpg Toyota with the more sophisticated transmission every time.

    Corolla Cross has 1500 lb towing capacity HRV has no manufacturer towing rating. So to have a small jet ski you want to take to the lake with your AWD SUV you can’t with the Honda. Although you may find that some aftermarket retailers offer a hitch and wire harness for the HRV installing on vehicle and then taking to dealer for transmission (CVT) issues and they see a trailer hitch on car I’m should they will not honor warranty.

    This was a good, clever video guys. The fact that you bring in the Toyota Corolla Cross-Hybrid version against Honda's HR-V already shows who wins the competition despite any shortcomings the Toyota may have.
    Affordability dictates I'm trying to save myself as much money as possible. So then, I'm not sure why Honda wouldn't make it a hybrid like Toyota does here in the US. Looks, comfort, and power alone are not where the customers are going when buying this class of vehicles and a 40+ MPG on an affordable SUV like these is a no brainer! Toyota Corolla Cross all the way brother!!

    MAJOR technical advantage of the HRV engine.... NO Direct injection! There is nothing more reliable than a multi-port fuel injection, non-turbo, 4 cylinder Honda! 90s SOLID proven technology. Now, with respect to the CVT, obviously this is the weakness for both. Toyota tries to improve their CVT by adding a traditional first gear before handing off to the CVT. The Toytota has Direct Injection and attempts to solve the intake valve clogging problem and reliability issues by ALSO having multi-port fuel injectors. (Eight injectors, instead of four, means more moving parts and injectors to fail or clog.) This sounds like a lot of problems.... new non-proven technology. The only problem that I see with the HRV is that it is manufactured and assembled in Mexico. To be exact, Celaya, Mexico. One of the most dangerous cities in the World. I can't help to think of the low wages paid to these workers in Mexico and their dedication, or lack of, to quality in such a dangerous city. Time will tell. I would rather have an American made Honda HRV, if it existed for us in the US.
