Honestly the movie had some funny parts. Just lacked more story in my opinion. I don’t think it deserves NEAR as much hate as it gets tho. It’s nowhere near as bad of a DreamWorks film as Boss Baby. Storks was also a very strange film.
@@huntercool2232I can see that, the story wasn't everything special, but yeah, it's definitely not the worst movie, if anything, it's kinda underrated.
So let me get this straight: The Boov STOLE THE YOUNG of another alien species, ran away after ticking them off, then to make a new hiding place and home for themselves, INVADED EARTH AND RELOCATED THE HUMAN POPULATION INTO A GHETTO. Then, one of the Boov attracts the other species, potentially getting both the Boov and humanity getting targeted for death!? This movie feels way too chipper for what was done.
Fun fact: I was in college studying animation when this movie came out (2015, my 3rd year) and one of my CGI professors knew some of the key animators who worked on the film. He said that if we saw it in theaters and brought the ticket stubs in by the end of the week, we'd get a good chunk of extra credit. He said this to every class he taught, and we all went and saw this movie when it came out that week. (The college struggle was so real and seeing a movie for credit was EASY.) I can only imagine how weird it was to work at that small local theater that week. Suddenly, for just that single week, SWARMS of visibly depressed and tired college students flooded the house just to see Home. It was a local theater that didn't get much business, so this alone was probably the busiest week they'd had in years, only to then go back to the slow normal like nothing happened the following week. They probably figured out it was a school thing, but it's not like they knew we were all art students being bribed with extra credit, so as far as they knew we were all just very weird and stressed adults who NEEDED to see this kids movie for some reason. I wonder if that theater is still open lol EDIT! Thanks for all the likes! Here's some more info! The reason my professor was really pressing for people to see this specific movie was not just because he knew several people who worked on it, but also because at the time (mid 2015) Dreamworks was in serious financial trouble, and there were a lot of industry rumors going around that they might go bankrupt. The profits for the last few movies they put out apparently weren't great, and there was even talk that Disney might buy them out to merge with their top competitor at the time, thereby eliminating them. Obviously none of that happened, but back in 2015 nobody knew what the future held for Dreamworks. They were really worried that just one more flop could be the end, so EVERYONE I knew (mostly my animation professors) really didn't want to see this film do badly. While only my CGI professor offered the extra credit, all my other 2D professors were also encouraging us to see it. So even though the movie is...uh, well it's something, having it NOT flop might've literally saved Dreamworks. Wild stuff lol
