Mulan is a 1998 American animated musical coming-of-age action-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.
#mulan #disneyreaction #cartoon
Mulan kills way more people with snow than Elsa ever dreamed of.
I remember the film theory about who killed the most and she was up there
Mulan: The only Disney character with a body count in the thousands.
@@Voice_of_Freedom76ermm ackthually the Disney karacter with the most deaths is the king from Atlantis, who “accidentally” nuked and drowned his entire empire, possibly hundreds of thousands of people ☝️🤓
Elsa: I have ice.
Mulan: I caused an avalanche and blew up their leader with fireworks
Elsa: ......
she's so iconic
Shang was really like from "Am I gay???" to "Ok, I am gay" and then "WAIT, IT'S NOT A BOYYY!?!?!?" 😂
Then he chuckled and said *even better*
bisexuality in a nutshell
"Wait, I can work with this!"
Mulan:”Shang please! Can we make love like normal for once?!”
Shang:”No. Put on the armor.”
@@ThatdudeIsgonnabecomeahe-yp2ju i think it balanced itself out with him thinking mulan was a guy but it's no she's a girl i have to imagine as well this was like shang's first love experience him being soldier and all son a general your not going on many dates so he had to have felt truly lucky bc mulan kinda bad tho xD
Fun Fact: Disney’s Mulan is based off of an ancient folk song and ballad called The Ballad of Mulan that was written in China during the Northern Wei Dynasty around 400 AD.
What's kinda funny / painful is the live action adaptation is more faithful to the original but accuracy wasn't what people wanted; they wanted songs and fun.
@@safebox36Sometimes things shouldn’t be so accurate. Look at Pocahontas
@@safebox36It wasn't all fun and games, besides the original story wasn't that good anyways at least in my opinion. It's an adaptation, like any other Disney movie
No one cares about china
@@Man77772 pocahontast should have been more accurate, it disneyified a preteen girl being harassed by dudes 20 years older than her
I feel like no one gives credit to that military doctor for actually treating Mulan's wounds even when he found out she was a woman.
💯 agreed

@@petermen_2005yeah and he could’ve chosen not to, as well as to out her to everyone else to get her in trouble. that’s what this comment was referring to, hope this helps^^
love being the fun fact person; after 'the girl worth fighting for', there are no more musical numbers. The movie goes from a musical with war undertones to a movie about war (as far as disney was able to). Also, the doll of the killed girl is the 'girl worth fighting for'. they realise that what actually matter is not a fictional girl they may impress with their war-skills or wtv, but the children, girls and boys alike, who they can safe. I love the tonal shift! i think its very daring for the movie
18:32 He wasn't surprised by Mulan being a woman because it's historically accurate that for the Huns it was normal to have women in the army.
Li Shang wanted to kill Mulan for being a woman.
Shan Yu wanted to kill Mulan for being the enemy.
Interesting to say the least.
normal maybe but depends how common it was in the Hans army. Pretty sure Shan Yu's first though about Mulan is that she was a man because thats the first though that came to his mind when he thought of a soldier, especially Chinese where the culture and societal norms are different, and thats how Mulan presented herself...Thus he was still surprised both because "oh, so its a woman" and because "oh, its that bastard from the mountains that killed most of my army!"
I guess?
This is Zuko's favourite movie because it's all about honour.
And the father figure is actually worth honoring
@@robertstull8759real

6:44 The reason why she looks a lot more like a guy is that they literally changed her model. In the beginning of the movie, her jawline is rounded, and now they made it more angular.
So Mulan became Mewlan
She locked in.
They put the cartoon actress on cartoon HRT for the role.
It's on the DVD case, you can see it clearly.
"You dont meet a girl like that every Dynasty"
I still like to remember that line every once in a while.
I really love the symbolism in the Emperor bowing for Mulan. He refused to bow in the face of death. He stood his ground for honor but he bowed for someone who deserved it.
This Disney animated movie did help a lot of things in the future. Without it, Ming-Na Wen wouldn’t go on to be a popular celebrity, Eddie Murphy wouldn’t go on to play Donkey in Shrek, and McDonald’s wouldn’t have to put up with the whole Rick and Morty szechuan sauce ordeal.
Ming-Na Wen was already popular at this point for her role as June in the Joy Luck Club (which was her breakthrough movie that solidified her as a popular celebrity). The Joy Luck Club is why she got offered the role by Disney as they found her voice to be the perfect fit for Mulan.
No idea if thats true and i wont fact check

You remember the scene where Shang was going to send Mulan home during training? If her dad had gone instead, wouldnt he have been sent home too? Theres no way he could run up a hill with buckets of water.
high chance her father would have actually died on this shit
I imagine that would be “dishonorable” or something. Mulan also could’ve just gone home, she chose not to.
i rememeber someone said that one of the reasons the father was ordered back into the army was to be one of the instructors because he already did military service so it wouldn't make sense to be a new recruit as a veteran
@@tofucube7703 well that's interesting. You'd think that would be more reason to let him go
1. He was a veteran soldier, he wouldn't have started as a recruit in boot camp
2. The whole thing about the movie is HONOR, Mulan father was willing to go to war knowing he would die to protect his family's honor, imagine how fucking dishonorable would be to be rejected from the army because you were to dumb or to weak to fight
"If she ain't gonna hawk tua, then I ain't gonna talk tua", I think he might have started a new meme.
That's already the name of her podcast...
Its so crazy that when they come across the burnt village and interrupt "A Girl Worth Fighting For," they never sing again in the movie since they now realize the price of war
Shan Yu did say they should return the doll, they did it. That scene was shocking to watch as a kid
"Ill Make A Man Out Of You" remains one of my favourite Disney songs. I just cant get over how catchy and motivational it is. It's so good that I still have it on my gym playlist
I feel like you need it in a work out playlist. Like it’s not complete without it. Mine has Pitbull, trap remixes and IMaMOoY.
its in my work out playlist too lmao
That and, Be prepared by Scar
Nobody is gonna mess with the dude powerlifting to Disney songs, he is clearly confident he can handle himself in a fight...
Jackie Chan sings the mandarin din of that song
I love Inakyu, she's so brave. Being the only girl who is willing to collab with you guys
She’s the only woman who will willingly interact with them 😁
13:20 them finding the doll at the end of the song indicating the true girl worth fighting for 🥲
That's deep
"Besides, the little girl would be missing her doll...we should return it to her."
That is cold as hell and him smiling about it adds a layer of horror to it
"Wow, this training montage is great, I'm gna enlist in China's army right now"
The Philipina in the zoom call: *NO!*

Interestingly the singing voice of Mulan is Lea Salonga who is also from the Philippines
It took me this long just to realize how similar the antagonist of Mulan is to Tailung from Kung fu Panda like literally EVERYTHING except the fact he’s not a snow leopard 💀
Kung Fu Panda is just Mulan for Furries? 😱
Archaeological evidence has actually supported the fact that the Huns were facing mass starvation and droughts back in their homeland in the Eurasian Steppe, which is why these are believed to be the main devastating factors that encouraged them to attack the Roman Empire.
Yes, there has been no evidence that has been found to support that they ever attacked China.
You're correct, although the "huns" in this movie should be the rourans since the "huns" were not attacking china.
They left out the grandma saying "Woah! Sign me up for the next war!" 😭
the way my smile dropped when jack said "demure" 😭
Mulan is the ultimate girlboss, but she is the best Disney princess ngl.
15:12 I loved how she stopped because she knew it was bad
Then going from singing _A Girl Worth Fighting For_ to the most serious scene in the entire movie hits different. Shang learning his boy wife was a girl is peak!
“A girl worth fighting for” is a bop and the tonal shift at the end of the scene is great!
"If you want it to be, it can be that for you."
I think this is an answer that so many people don't even consider for things that can be understood by multiple differing types.
15:21 I was gonna comment on it earlier in the scene but Eden beat me to it. As of right now (unless Elio gets real weird)
Mulan has the highest kill count of any Disney/Pixar character. The animators drew around 2,000 Hun soldiers which means 1,994 men and 2,000 horses were killed by Milan in that avalanche. Respect ✊
ermm ackthually the Disney karacter with the most deaths is the king from Atlantis, who “accidentally” nuked and drowned his entire empire, possibly hundreds of thousands of people ☝️🤓
@@Bean_the_chosenAtlantis is often considered not just a city, but an *entire continent* in the lore too, for that matter.
But in terms of Disney Princess/Royalty, Mulan has the highest *on screen* kill count, where Kida has the highest *off screen* kill count from what is implied from comments her father makes (“A thousand years ago you would have slaughtered them on sight.”). The number isn’t clear, but the implications are that they’re high from the fact she’s canonically over 8,000 years old by the time of the events of the movie and was around 600 when the city sank.
8:37 Fun Fact: Yellow eyes (specifically yellow sclera) is a sign of jaundice which can be a symptom of serious diseases commonly associated with the liver.

Classic Mulan was fantastic, even if as a dumb little kid I decided that it was a "girl movie" and didn't watch it for the longest time
Is it me, or did Shang seem a bit disappointed at first that Mulan wasn't a man?😂 Oh well, long live the bi king. I'll never forgive Disney for cutting him from the live action version.

18:49 the bonfire joke killed me
The writers of this movie really didn’t think through having the guy being upset that mulan is a girl
Watching this, i remembered a mexican telenovela that has a subplot that reminds me of Mulan. The subplot is about a girl who has an older brother who is a matador. Early into the show, her brother tragically dies (i think to a bull) so she cuts her hair, becomes a matador just to kill that bull, and assumes her brothers identity.
Then she befriends this military guy. I can't remember if the brother was supposed to meet this guy or if they were friends from long ago. BUT in a similar fashion to Mulan. They become friends. Then she falls in love with him. She then doesn't know whether to come clean due to the fact shes been lying to him. Then, on the other side, he doesn't know how to feel about his feelings towards her (who he thinks is a guy). In the end, she comes clean, he realizes what his feeling towards her are and they end up together. I was a kid and its been nearly 20 years so i might be remembering some details wrong.
wait what novela is that cause im a chronic novela watcher and i ain’t remember anything with this plot... (unless it ain't from televisa cuz thats what i watch the most)
@dan.dandan It's called "Contra Viento y Marea" and I think it's Televisa. It came out in 2005 so like I said, I might be remembering details wrong lol maybe that's why it doesn't sound familiar but for sure. The younger sister kills the bull that killed her matador brother and she then assumes the identity of a man.
The main plotline revolves around 3 characters. 2 step brothers and a girl they mutually like. The older brother is adopted but the younger one thinks they are actually brothers and looks up to him. Then, of course, once the girl comes into the picture. It just escalates from there
17:25 AMOGUS
Bruh, there’s like 3 songs in this film and they’re ALL peak.
So, regarding the disney kill count. Mat Pat actually did the tally on the movies! Mulan has the highest kill count from a single event, but Scar and the hyenas do way more damage across the movie. Since it was all caused because of Scar, you can argue he got the biggest kill count.
That being said, the three movies that showcase the most death would be, in order from lowest to highest, Hercules, Atlantis and Dinosaur.
9:33 why is peter pan in there bro???
I think they just pulled up a collage of Disney males. That said, they should watch Hook for *actual* dad Peter Pan 😂

Watching the live action version is considered a war crime in most countries.

The interesting thing here that isn't touched upon enough is that Mulan's father seems to be an actually respected soldier, possibly from a previous war, hence the armor and the sword already in storage. Also Mulan being packing a hefty punch already even before training would show how deep the strength runs in their genes.
I doubt they'd make the old crippled man fight in the war, but they would've most likely used him as a veteran to help train the inexperienced troops.
