Buxom boost was my favorite in fromt of my Mesa until I got my Sunless fx The Winter pedal. The only pedal better than the Buxom and my always go-to now 🤘
Can't believe how much every pedal sounded so much alike it really doesn't matter to me which one I'd pick... I'm glad I found my sound with one cheap fender amp only.
SD-1 sounds good man, I like it better than the tube screamer circuit (with rectos) it has a little more top end. it's smoother than the mega aggressive ones too.
Awesome video! What would be even more awesome would be that exact same video, but being played in a mix to hear the actual differences in a recorded scenario. Keep up the awesome content!!!
The King in Yellow, Buxom Boost, and anything TC Preamp all had shining moments for me with the Dual Rec. I'm definitely not surprised by the "King" nor the TC stuff, because TS and TC ODs are often touted by many a Dual Rec owner. The fact that the Buxom Boost stood out in a fun way to me makes me want to spend irresponsible money, but I don't NEED it. I do like what others are saying about a semi-classic 5150/6505 variant being the next to test. Maybe the Stealth blue channel can come in at a later date if you think it stands separately enough from the OG. I'm not expert enough to have an opinion there.
Surprisingly, I think the Buxom boost works BETTER on most other amps, as it kind of overloads the front end of the dual rectifier. It's an awesome pedal!
@@kylebull2 @JoelScabo hit the nail on the head. The King in Yellow, Buxom Boost, and Dirty Tree all sounded awesome with the DR. It's got me wondering what the Aquaria by Lichlaerm Audio would sound like. Oh well, going to have to wait to find out because the DAE is next on the hitlist after hearing it in this video. Keep up the great work dude!
Someone never tried a good rack EQ. 30 or more frequency band's. Will destroy any boost as long as the amp doesnt need the boost for extra gain to begin with. Boost pedals are for ease of use, quick setup. Rack still sounds better 99% of the time.
Ok, so I got out my expensive Focal mixing headphones for this video, to make sure I was hearing everything correctly. Maybe it’s just me, and my ears are damaged from almost 40 years of too-loud rehearsals and blasting the music in the car, but so many of these sound SO similar to me. I do hear a few differences here and there, but nothing that makes me go “WOW! I GOTTA HAVE THAT PEDAL!!!” Am I the only one who thinks the differences are pretty minimal?
I keep wanting to do this sort of video, props for sitting through and doing it lol. Pretty cool and a nice way to judge how each one sounds in comparison.. Of all those, I would have to say the TS9, Dirty Tree, and Mudkiller were my favorites.. Cool video!!!
Would love for you to do the VHT Pittbull behind you with this set up. I know I favor my Black Arts Toneworks Black Forrest as my favorite boost for my Pittbull but I wouldn't mind seeing if something works better.
Great video!! Im using the Maxon ST9Pro+ & Revv G8 noise gate with my Dual Rect Solo head and sound brutal on Orange Channel 2🔥🔥 not a fan of the red channel 3, too bright for my taste.
Great video and comparison. A lot of them sounded the same to me, but the Mesa Grid Slammer has a certain sound that stood out compared to the others (I'm probably biased since I used one with my DR). I was also impressed that the Joyo one held its own with the others. I would recommend a part 2 video with maybe just ones you feel are in the top 5 or 10 and do a before and after with each to show how much the pedal colors the stock amp tone. Thanks for doing this!
gotta agree with the consensus here. listened a couple times. 1st time eyes open, second time eyes closed. some of the ones weren't doing it for me on the second listen. Dirty tree wins. I do Like the MXR aswell tho its character seems to really suite the recto. Friedman sounds big but I like the tighter sounds.
Hard to say which is best. Probably it just doesn´t matter that much anyway, but even then, it is nicely demonstrated in this video! Dear Mr.Bull: Is that a blue Dean ML Select guitar that you play in this episode?
You should try the Way Huge Green Rhino MK2. Instead of having the 500hz Trim Pot like the one in this video, it has a Curve control which controls 1k-3k loudness I believe. I bought one 10yrs ago and it hasn’t left my board since.
Man you sold me on that Custom Badass when you did your 5 pedal video. I got one and run it through an EVH 50 watt Stealth. Lots of tonal options with that along with an MXR 10 band. Thank you Stupid Face.
Well if there ever was one that wasn't on my radar but kicked my ass, what's up with the Friedman Buxom Boost😅 Also never heard of the 1689, very nice! I was aware of the MXR as sort of a hidden gem, and always wanted a Grid Slammer because shooting the plugin version against an 808 usually brought nicer mids, but my Maxon 808x still servese very well
I love this concept and think it’s a great idea for the second channel. Thanks for including the Nobels pedal because it’s something we don’t see for metal. I’d like to see a video with more of that. Like why don’t people use Boss Blues Drivers in front of 5150s? I’ve never tried it because the guy at Musician’s Friend told me to buy a Maxon OD-808 and everyone else had one in 2004.
Bass is at 3, Presence is at 2, Master is at 4, Mids are at 8, again and Treble both on 6-6.5, mode is on “modern”, amp is running at full power of 100w.
Do this same test using that same guitar but with every amp you own, every pedal you own and at least 20 different sets of pickups. What a long video that would be to make and to watch. Anyway, thanks!
Starting with a Dual Rectifier, I’d say an EVH (stealth maybe), and some more super common amps before going into crazy high end. Start with the familiars
I'm loving the less processed, more than usual raw tones. Its a far more accurate representation of what I'm looking for when buying pedals and amps and pedals.
My bad, I think I'd misinterpreted what you said in a comment on your fb page about production for this channel, but I get what you meant now. Either way, love the vid.
What this video displays is that the Dual Rectifier sounds awesome with any boost. You can't go wrong.
Do the same with amp slaving different poweramps! Love this nerdy stuff! :)
This!. The nerdy stuff is fun and what I hyper fixate on.
3 days later...
The grid slammer. And the next amp you test with these overdrives: how about a Crate GX130C
Crate would be sick
Eww
Not really a metal guy, but the Buxom Boost definitely perked my ear more than the others. Favorites behind that were the SD-1 and MXR Badass.
Buxom boost was my favorite in fromt of my Mesa until I got my Sunless fx The Winter pedal. The only pedal better than the Buxom and my always go-to now 🤘
Dirty Trees all the way, as usual. Also, I'd be interested in seeing this format with the Savage 120.
Thanks for the suggestion!
My favorites were definitely :
- The King In Yellow
- Pepers pedals Dirtytree
- Maxon OD808X
Great idea for a series! Love to see a 6505 or 5150 iii next
Can't believe how much every pedal sounded so much alike it really doesn't matter to me which one I'd pick... I'm glad I found my sound with one cheap fender amp only.
I really liked the Tilt and, especially, the custom mode on the SD-2.
Oddly the sd1 on classic sounded best to me.
Same here… oddly 😅
SD-1 sounds good man, I like it better than the tube screamer circuit (with rectos) it has a little more top end. it's smoother than the mega aggressive ones too.
Me too. I know his ears are "fried" after all those OD pedals, but a Friedman Golden Perl is good too.
Awesome video! What would be even more awesome would be that exact same video, but being played in a mix to hear the actual differences in a recorded scenario. Keep up the awesome content!!!
The Dirty Tree, Duality, and Grid Slammer all caught my attention.
King in yellow and dirty tree🔥🔥.1689 was pretty cool didn’t like the second mode. Odd second mode was nice.

Great shootout. Perfect format with displaying the settings. Cheers!
The Caline Orange Burst surprised me. It sounded good.
You can't beat dirty tree with any recto. Just amazing

A lot of them sounded pretty similar. I think the Dirty Tree had the best bite. Buxom Boost sounded pretty great too.

OD808X sounds so good with the Recto
The grid slammer sounds really good.
Dirty Tree and Buxom Boost for me.

Of all those, I would have to say the TS9, Dirty Tree, and Mudkiller were my favorites..
Cool video!!!
dude, your content is pure fire
King in Yellow all day. I love mine.
I go back and forth between a Maxon ST9 Pro+ and a Keeley mod Metalzone for my Rec. Sounds insane hehe.
Metalzone works so well with the recto.
Metalzone = crowbar tones
Would love for you to do the VHT Pittbull behind you with this set up. I know I favor my Black Arts Toneworks Black Forrest as my favorite boost for my Pittbull but I wouldn't mind seeing if something works better.

I’ve noticed you have a boatload of overdrives but have never used a Seymour Duncan 805, they’re fantastic dude you should check one out

plumes (on setting 1) or custom bad ass for me. really nice top end crunch

I do Like the MXR aswell tho its character seems to really suite the recto. Friedman sounds big but I like the tighter sounds.
That was cool !
I didn't even know that so many ODs exists 😂
Please do more amps.
I vote for Peavay 6505 or 5150
And there are many many more LOL
I use to run Caline a few years ago the Sundance Special that I designed paired well with rectos
Most sounded awesome. Maybe try a Peavey or Marshall next? 🤘
Dual rectifier is amazing.

For the next video do it with the peavey 5150/6505!
If this hasn’t been said, one of these would be good for a 5150!
Man you sold me on that Custom Badass when you did your 5 pedal video. I got one and run it through an EVH 50 watt Stealth. Lots of tonal options with that along with an MXR 10 band. Thank you Stupid Face.
Mxr Badass my man woo i love that one never leaves my board
Just an idea. Can you place names of ODs on the movie because I don't really know few of them?
Plumes!!!! Thanks kyle, good shit as always bro! Custom badass m77 with the bump switch on is my go to for 6505+
Is the pedal connected in the fx loop? Or directly in the input amp?
They're all so close, I don't think I could tell most of them apart in a mix.
Hi Kyle VHT Pitbull would be interesting
Well if there ever was one that wasn't on my radar but kicked my ass, what's up with the Friedman Buxom Boost😅

The green pedal with the tree had the best articulation & clearest note definition to me. What is it?
Peper's Dirty Tree!
Kyle Bull 3- coming soon. Tech tips/amp mod channel.
I love this concept and think it’s a great idea for the second channel. Thanks for including the Nobels pedal because it’s something we don’t see for metal. I’d like to see a video with more of that. blues driver is probably a little bit too gainy even with the gain all the way down to do the pushing a metal amp thing
@@lysdexiar31 That makes sense.
"I will leave the camera on the amp so you can see my settings." _Cries in reflective metal knobs with tiny indicators_
hahaha, unfortunately not much I could do to help there
Bass is at 3, Presence is at 2, Master is at 4, Mids are at 8, again and Treble both on 6-6.5, mode is on “modern”, amp is running at full power of 100w.
I would be interested to see what overdrives sound good with the Splawn Nitro. Still hunting down a pedal for that amp.
could only imagine the work this took. so awesome!
OD808X gang ❤
Do this same test using that same guitar but with every amp you own, every pedal you own and at least 20 different sets of pickups. What a long video that would be to make and to watch. Anyway, thanks!
What guitar cables are they??????
incredible, Kyle!
Conclusion: The riff playing and Rectifier are so good that you can stack any overdrive on them.
My favorite is the one that made it sound like a boosted Rectifier. Huge sound.
Make a video where you chain them all at max gain.
MXR Custom Badass for my taste.
Opps ....should have tried the Slamurai. Heard that one was nice.
It's ok, well made pedal but I've found it doesn't tighten much or add a voicing I find pleasant so it doesn't get used
Cool, I appreciate your opinion.@@kylebull2
Did the ODD hold its own against the others?
Engl Fireball 25 next please
6505+ would be rad
Have you tried a Horizon Device yet?
Dirty Tree all the way!
Metalzone #1 followed by OCD, then any Tubescreamer.
It’s a toss up between the Dirty Tree, King in Yellow and the MXR Badass
Love the shirt🙏

Odd Box for sure.
Next amp: Peavey Classic 50!
5150 iconic pleeeeeeeeaase!
6505 + please
Sweet!!🙌
Two channels? That's a lot of Bull!
Excellent work
So, people spend so much time and money just to find out, there is literally almost no difference that worth any of that effort 🤔
I totally disagree with you 💯
