Back when I was in a band about 18 years ago I had a triple rectifier and a dual rec. I had a sonic maximizer through the effects loop and it really cleaned up the tone and gave it a killer boost!🤘🎸
That was excellent. Reconfirmed something you said before about using the TS-9 with the Dual Rectifier. I actually bought one off that demo and it does exactly what you said it would. Excellent demo, excellent advice.
Hey! I have a Dual Rectifier too! I absolutely LOVE it, but my favorite boost for it is the Airis Effects Savage Drive. It also creates a massive sound.
I had a sticker made that I put on mine that said " Dual Rectumfryer". Probably should have mass produced those as I was constantly asked where to get one..lolol
My two cents. You can also use the Pepper's Dirty Tree, which is the same thing as the Fortin 33 and cheaper. Or you can go for an Eq pedal, just cut some lows and crank the output level and you have another clean boost
Horizon Devices Precision drive was designed to tighten up the low end flub of high gain amps, specifically amps like the 5150 and dual rec. It gets the job done and keeps the quality of the amp intact. I love mine. I have a 33 and a PD and the PD has replaced the 33 on my board. The 33 is good if you tune pretty low, but it has the EQ mids quack curve that leans towards that 8 string meshuggah thing, which is cool, but much more prominent for anything above D Standard, in my playing at least
Dirty Tree, Maxon 808, Boss Metal Zone MT-2, and Marshall Guv’nor best boost for a Rectifier! The trick with getting a good sound out of a Rectifier is turning the master volume up to 1:30/2:00 or going to back and completely bypass loop if you looking for solid rhythm tone. 🤘
Bought the Maxon ST9 Pro+ after hearing it in the Cannibal Corpse tone video however long ago and it's just about the only boost I use now other than my old Marshall Guv'nor on occasion, both super sick pedals for those classic 90s Recto sounds
I just picked up a dual rectifier multi watt and I’m boosting it with a boss SD-1. Something I’ve noticed for anyone not experienced with Mesas is you can’t set up like you would say a Marshall or they sound like ass. Use your ears and adjust the knobs accordingly. Your settings are going to look weird but it’ll get the tone you want
I have a dual... Best boost I've ever used in front of it is the Maxon OD-808, with the Precision Drive being a close (albeit differently flavoured) 2nd.
Only thing the video was missing was a front face shot at the amp so we could get a good look at what he’s got his amp set to on the dirty channel. I’ve got a Dual Rec myself and am having a hard time dialing it in for a metal tone. I’ve got the pedals too but just can’t find the sweet spot for a brütal tone
I have been using the silver J Rockett Audio Archer to boost my Dual Rec. i have the gain at 9:00 though. Treble to taste. Going through a stock Mesa 2x12. Makes me super happy. Gotten lots of compliments over the years
Great vid! I use the KHDK Ghoul Screamer, with mids and highs stacked all the way up, low end at the lowest possible, drive at 0, volume obviously maxed and tone 2/3. Rectos tend to sound a bit dark so I have maxed out the mids on the amp as well.
Hi ola! I know you’re quite an inspiration in the metal world. I recently bought a Marshall combo used dsl40 and paired it with prs mark holcomb 7 string. Let’s just say I got an amazing deal on both but man…. I took it home and tried to play some of my fav bands like erra. There new stuff is quite simple but holy smokes do they tune down low like Eb ish? A full octave and half step I think? Regardless, this thing has enough gain per se, but it does not sound room filling full at all a feel and tone that’s almost like a toy when playing it through great home audio. Buzzy thin no punch all feedback and hiss 😂. I’m sure V30s in a large close back would help but I’m not even in the ball park so it went back.. What are your thoughts? I’m sure a dual rec with a closed back larger cab would help but I brought my setup back the next day. Is everyone now a days using axe fx? Anything you or anyone else would suggest? Cheers!
Hi Ola, for those of us not deeply versed in the world of metal tones, could you do a video explaining what a modern metal tone is, and how it differs from for example, a dual rectifier being an older metal tone, and how are metal tones different before rectifiers came out? What is the historical lineage of metal tones? Thanks so much!
The other thing is it is way clearer with less noise, and more punch than Ola shows in the video when used in this way. In the link I posted with my other posts that is my Adam Jones Les Paul plugged directly into my Tremoverb. The settings I mentioned, SS diodes, Bold power, EL34's, and I put the gain around 1:30-2:00ish, so not even all the way up, and no boost at all. It is toothy, and pissed off as hell sounding. Nice chug, and more cut than a Guillotine factory.
Ola, please respond…. First of all, I love your channel! I have a 90’s era Mesa Triple Rectifier (Rev G) and a fairly simple pedalboard rig; Fortin 33, tuner, delay, phaser, octave. My question is - which (if any) of these pedals would you recommend to go through the effects loop?
Please respong Ola ! How loud does it get in the office when you crank this big ass stacks up ? How the guys and Louise coop with that ? Doors/walls are sound proof ?? Keep up the awesome job !!
Myself I have had great results with an OG SansAmp v1, Maestro and Systech like parametric filters + preamps, and really love slapping the input stage around with a good Ge Treble Booster, like the Java, Beano, Union Snap, etc...
Also, the Chelle Odie was an awesome TS9 varient with a mosfet clipping setting I absolutely loved. It sat between my SansAmp and a normal TS9. Did great infront of my Tverb and a 6505+.
I use a Mesa DC-3 and I actually use both the TS9 & the Fortin 33. The DC to me isn't really a high gain amp, and for the music I play it gives me the tone I'm looking for.
"Please respong" hey Ola I've been playing around with nam and I came across a Randall rg100es and I wanted to see you do a dimebag tone video with the plugin and hear your thoughts about it. Thanks
Hey Ola, love your videos since 10 years ago. I would like to ask you if you could give some lesson or advice to play the intro riff from Ghost In The Machine or Time (Will Not Heal) by The Haunted. Thanks, greetings from venezuela
Hi, I have a Mesa Road King 2. How do you set it up to get a really killer sound? Which channel? In what mode? With which pair of power tubes? Do you use the rectifier or diode? Spongy or Bold? Basically, tell me everything! Have you ever tried it with its hybrid cabinet, closed-back and open-back? Thanks for the reply, cheers!
Hi king of Metal Ola. Can you tell me how is the setting on bass, mid, high, gain and others of dual rectifier? Also do you recommend to use boss GT1000(TS9) instead of using real TS9? Wanna make Chug sound like you!!
I find that the 33 is the best boost / OD I have ever heard or personally used. I think it turns any tune into a straight up nuclear weapon. I love pedals, but 33 is my absolute favorite.
If you ever get the chance pipe both through 2 to 4 EVM12L. Ain't nothing like it for absolute metal brutality. Mine are in an Electric Amps 4x12 with two Celestion G12H100's, and nothing makes that cab fart out. It and my alnico SRO 12 and Fane Medusa 30 X loaded Bogner 412B copy are on a totally different level from everything I ever played through for clarity, beauty, and brutality. Everything is spit out with depth, presence, and enveloping bloom paired with toothy articulation.
I found the Fortin 33 too piercing in the high end for boosting my Dual Rectifier and had been using a TS9 until recently when I tried a Krachwerke Dirty Mid Boost overdrive and was blown away by it so I switched to one of those.
Which guitar does he use on this video, ? i can’t see. I have a dual rectifier and it works already particularly good with my PRS custom24. But I also like to use vintage guitar on modern hi-gain amp like my rectifier to create new sounds. And the results can mindblowing, like with my Les Paul black beauty 1975 or my Ampeg Dan Armstrong plexi lucite from 1970….killer sound..and i want to buy the fortin 33!
I don't have a Rectifier but my go to amp in the Fractal is the Recto Red channel and I use the grinder boost and it sounds so sick through my 2x12 cab. I can only imagine what the real thing sounds like in the room with the 33 pedal.
The "meshuggah overdrive" is pretty sick... I honestly would not even peg that as a rectifier tone, because one of the trademarks of a recto is just having a slightly fat gut and not apologizing for it, but that tone had like zero flub to it... Like when that just so mildly chunky guy at the gym suddenly gets hooked on steroids and is superripped....
You could use a Fender Malmsteen overdrive with Max volume no distorsion into a Mesa Gridslammer to get into Fortin mode. Sometimes I prefer that combo when re-amping over the 33. Anyway, Mesa is such a great amp!
PLEASE RESPONG: Hey Ola, I’m on the search for the “Mesa Boogie” sound on a budget…Question: can the Solar Chug pedal get me a Mesa type sound? P.s it would be awesome if you made a video showing how to get the Mesa sound on a budget. Keep CHUGGING!🤘🏼
Thx 2 you I tend to use an sd-1 to boost, i also use a Lichtbringer ² by klirrton. Also I found the demon FX precision Drive clone to be not that faborable. Btw how loud do you set your recti? My volume is mostly around 11 o clock
I'll never get sick of hearing Ola talk about the "Fårtin förty free" ;D
Hey great video man, the camera angle and backdrop made the recto look like the amp of the gods🤘🏻
Didn't expect to see you here, you are both some of the best guitar UA-camrs.
Back when I was in a band about 18 years ago I had a triple rectifier and a dual rec. I had a sonic maximizer through the effects loop and it really cleaned up the tone and gave it a killer boost!🤘🎸
Ola you should do a vid on the sonic maximizer! If you haven't heard of them do some research.
such a killer amp the Tremoverb. All of Incubus' early SCIENCE and Make Yourself tones were all a Dual Rec Tremoverb
That was excellent. Reconfirmed something you said before about using the TS-9 with the Dual Rectifier. I actually bought one off that demo and it does exactly what you said it would. Excellent demo, excellent advice.
Im running the Maxon ST9-Pro+ & REVV G8 noise gate with my Dual Rect Solo Head, love it🔥🔥💪🏼
How is that Maxon? I’ve understood it’s really thick and can give an extra low end punch?
Love that you are playing more and more 7 strings . Keep it up man!
Hey! I have a Dual Rectifier too! I absolutely LOVE it, but my favorite boost for it is the Airis Effects Savage Drive. It also creates a massive sound.
I would like to see a video like this with the Mini-rectifier! :D Awesome video Ola!
Someone should mod the amp into fart sounds and call it the "Dual Rectalfier" 😂.
I had a sticker made that I put on mine that said " Dual Rectumfryer". Probably should have mass produced those as I was constantly asked where to get one..lolol
Rectumfryer
Recta-“FRIAR”
Just use the Fart Pedal! 🤘
Dual Rectfart
I just got a 33 and I'm super excited to try it now with my old 90s two channel dual rec.
Simply the best tone on your channel even after all these years.
My two cents. You can also use the Pepper's Dirty Tree, which is the same thing as the Fortin 33 and cheaper. Or you can go for an Eq pedal, just cut some lows and crank the output level and you have another clean boost

what a nice thoughtful informative post !thx!

Had my Tremoverb for 20 years. One of the baddest Mesas ever built. So versatile.
30 here. Mine is up for sale.
Maintained, and rehoused. It is in the link I included. Ying Yang Happy Face PJ'S and Hiwatt are not available at this time.
That Fortin tone is crushing ugghhh
I just picked up a dual rectifier multi watt and I’m boosting it with a boss SD-1. I have a dual... Best boost I've ever used in front of it is the Maxon OD-808, with the Precision Drive being a close (albeit differently flavoured) 2nd.
What settings?? So I can try
Gorgeous tones here 🥰
Your playing at the start of this reminded me of an 80s band, S.O.D. ↑↑↑
They say never meet your heros unless it's Ola Englund
Hey Ola, teach us how to get that massive sound while recording with just using plugins! Excellent video!
Mesa grid slammer is an awesome overdrive also.
Saw someone try a George Lynch module on their Marshall head; that thing RIPPPPPPED.
Yup, it has a sound. Sounds direct. What about a compressor work?
Nice! I've found my tone by boosting the dual rectifier with a klon style OD, but definitely I don't need an extreme level of distortion.
As soon as I see a thumbnail with a Dual Rectifier and a green boost pedal, I just know there's going to be some Nevermore. ❤
Beloved Maxon 808, beloved Rectifier, beloved Ola~
I have a Single Rec with a Revv G3. Sounds awesome
"It's just ahhh!" HELL YEAH!
Man the rectifiers take boosts so well, and the 33 sounds so amazing. Great video Ola! Trevlig helg!
Love it!
@Ola, could you please compare Rectifier to 5150 and/or 6505? Engl amps would be awesome too.
That's my favorite pedal, Tube Screamer I got mine in 1983
I have been using the silver J Rockett Audio Archer to boost my Dual Rec. i have the gain at 9:00 though.
That Fortin was cool! I’ve always gotten good tones plugging it into an EVH Cab w/ Greenbacks too. I bet the Uber Cab with 75/ V30s would be cool too!
Peper's Dirty Tree is the best boost I've heard. For any amp.
Love it when you add some feared riffs in ola takes me back to when I first discovered you love that song Fall of man 🤘🏽 3:13
I had an Ibanez tube screamer with the little square button. I bought it used in 1985. I wish I would have kept it.
Pit the 33 against the Tony peppers Dirty Tree... Dare ya 😁
Love the Maxon OD-808 to boost my Bogner Uberschall.
Hilariously... The 2 drives on my board for rectifiers is the TS9 and the 33. Sounds great as always
Maxon ST9 Pro+ sounds killer in front of a dual or triple rectifier. The low boost setting brings the rumble back.
CANNIBAL CORPSE
Stoked to see Matt Damon is back lending his voice to the channel.
Hi ola! I know you’re quite an inspiration in the metal world. I recently bought a Marshall combo used dsl40 and paired it with prs mark holcomb 7 string. I have a RevG dual rec and I like to use the boss SD1 and/or peppers dirty tree 🤘🏻 but for the price .. that SD1 is really good
Hi Ola, for those of us not deeply versed in the world of metal tones, could you do a video explaining what a modern metal tone is, and how it differs from for example, a dual rectifier being an older metal tone, and how are metal tones different before rectifiers came out? The pick spiking was perfect - 4:04
Ola, Artec Parametric Pedal. Used as an OD, it van go places. It’s really quiet too.
I just have to say you always make my day and I greatly appreciate it.. learning and laughing for the last 4 years for me. Thanks
thank you ola , great video
Hi Ola. Great video. I really like the guitar you are playing. Can I buy THAT ONE you are playing from you? LOL. And I am serious. LOL.
cool video, Maxon 808 for my Triple rec
Finally Ola use the mesa recto
Ola we hear so much awesome thrash playing from you. Could you give us your best “fear factory” sound? That would be sick!!
I bought a Reev Tilt boost a few weeks ago and it killed my TS9 instantly. Love it to death.
TS9 with Dual Recto is the perfect sound
I would love to hear your Chug pedal with the Fortin 33!
How about budget combo amps for studio and small gigs? A real showdown! Too many options. New? Old? Digital stuff? Tubes?
Please respong Ola ! How loud does it get in the office when you crank this big ass stacks up ? How the guys and Louise coop with that ? Doors/walls are sound proof ??
Keep up the awesome job !!
The Northern Mauler pedal would be a good alternative too, in my opinion.
Cannibal Corpse back in the day ran Keeley modded Boss Metal Zone as a boost! Bought one years ago for my Triple Reborn, it’s fucking brutal!🤘🏻
Hi Ola, could you tell your settings in Mesa Boogie Dual? Including setting in back and front of the head. Thank you 🤘 you baddass
Myself I have had great results with an OG SansAmp v1, Maestro and Systech like parametric filters + preamps, and really love slapping the input stage around with a good Ge Treble Booster, like the Java, Beano, Union Snap, etc...

Sounds killer! What are these patch (90 degrees) cables?
Hey Ola, love your videos since 10 years ago. I would like to ask you if you could give some lesson or advice to play the intro riff from Ghost In The Machine or Time (Will Not Heal) by The Haunted. Thanks, greetings from venezuela
I think he also mean how to dial in the rectifier itself
Brutally Sick!! 🤘🤘🤘
Oh man. I need that purple x but with a Floyd rose. Please tell me y’all have one.
It would be interesting to see what's better: Horizon Devices Precision Drive or Fortin 33.................
Id love to hear that dual rectifier back to back against the peavey 6505+
Using the same guitar.
Boosts and no boost.
Pros n Cons
If you ever get the chance pipe both through 2 to 4 EVM12L. Ain't nothing like it for absolute metal brutality. Boss ds 9 i think or DS 1? can do some pretty punchy percussive boost that really helps with really fast staccato picking
Which guitar does he use on this video, ? i can’t see.
I have a dual rectifier and it works already particularly good with my PRS custom24. But I also like to use vintage guitar on modern hi-gain amp like my rectifier to create new sounds. Don't leave out the single ! it is good too !
I don't have a Rectifier but my go to amp in the Fractal is the Recto Red channel and I use the grinder boost and it sounds so sick through my 2x12 cab. I can only imagine what the real thing sounds like in the room with the 33 pedal.
which mic is that? I love the response from it on the chugs!
Hey Ola what are your settings here on the red channel? Bold and diode setting also?
You could use a Fender Malmsteen overdrive with Max volume no distorsion into a Mesa Gridslammer to get into Fortin mode. Sometimes I prefer that combo when re-amping over the 33.
Anyway, Mesa is such a great amp!
I'm a little bit sad...there is no shop where u can buy mesa boogie...damn :( buuuuut I'm glad we have EvH ^^
PLEASE RESPONG:
Hey Ola, I’m on the search for the “Mesa Boogie” sound on a budget…Question: can the Solar Chug pedal get me a Mesa type sound? P.s it would be awesome if you made a video showing how to get the Mesa sound on a budget.
Keep CHUGGING!🤘🏼
Purple Evertune X? Oh Hell Yeah! 🤘🤘
Any noise gate used?
I bet the Zio pedal would yield great results.
Thx 2 you I tend to use an sd-1 to boost, i also use a Lichtbringer ² by klirrton. Also I found the demon FX precision Drive clone to be not that faborable. Btw how loud do you set your recti? My volume is mostly around 11 o clock
show us your darn DR eq settings Ola!
Yea! Also the settings on the back!
Brutal 🤘🏼
The Fortin 33 is the best boost for any amp
I have had 4 Tremoverbs and now I’m prob buying my 5th. I’ll keep it this time lmao
Ola, next time, in a video like this, show us the positions of the knobs and channel used, please...
