    This reminds me of the days high schools had car shop classes. It's sad schools don't do that anymore. This type of find is a wonderful project for high schools. And imagine if multiple schools did it, they could compete in high school project car shows! C'mon America, we can do that, can't we?

    There was a Pontiac dealer across the street from the high school I attended a 69 judge showed up on the lot in 1973 and my buddy went over and bought it
    If I recall for $1400 he lived at home with his folks and brothers and sisters and hid that car from his mom and dad for several months. The car was epic and like new and ran like a beast! To this day he regrets ever parting with his goat it was white no vinyl top.
    Best wishes with your project! I like you see what it can be! Enjoy!

    Hey Joey, theres a few negative turds in your comment section. I've read them. They don't know what they're talking about! Also, there are some on here that think they know these cars, and they dont. I'm on my 4th 69 goat build. I had a 69 carousel red 4 speed judge (real one) back in the 80's. If you have some wire feed welding experience and can do some basic metal replacement, you can bring this girl back! I'm also happy to hear it sounds like you've got a loving and supportive wife regarding the car! That itself is huge. If I can help, don't hesitate to let me know, and I will give you my email! Hang in there!

      Naaah, a R/A III judge GTO was VERY common. Get the VIN run through Pontiac Historical services they will tell you everything that car was ordered with from the factory. If it's a R/AIV you got something rare. How do you tell a R/A III from a R/A IV ? simple are they 619 casting heads? If so, pull the exhaust manifolds and look for round port heads. If it's a common D port head, you cut the value by 2/3eds. From what I seen they look like R/A III D port heads. That car will be a money trap, Price out all the needed sheet metal . The good news is that would be a great parts car, you could make all your money back to part it out. That hideaway front end is cash in the bank.

    I'd expect to have to replace the gas tank as the existing one likely has pin holes caused by rust. Rubber fuel lines will all need replacement, our '71 Camaro had a fuel line in the middle of the car body we'd missed that was preventing draw from the tank. Exciting project!

    • @ex.spaceshuttle.worker
      @ex.spaceshuttle.worker 2 роки тому +1

      Are you referring to the tachometer in the dash or on the hood? Because they were two different places they put them. The hood tachometer was not standard but an option code 471 available on either a GTO or a judge. the GTO/judge got the standard dash gauges . Unless you ordered the rally gauge package which would include the in-dash tachometer. So neither tachometers were standard equipment. Like the other person said, send off for the PHS to see if it's an original judge or not. I noticed there was no judge emblem on the glove box door but it was a different color than the dash so the glove box door might have been changed. And I didn't see the Ram Air cables underneath the dash which could have been taken out years ago

      @ex.spaceshuttle.worker 2 роки тому

      @@joeybroadway6524 I'm crossing my fingers for you that it's a real judge. I was in a similar scenario early '80s. In the Orlando AutoTrader was a 1970 GTO for sale for 500 bucks. It was really trashed out. And it was only 12 years old at that time. The picture in the AutoTrader showed a judge spoiler judge decals on the front fenders but not on the trunk lid. And it did not have the judge stripes but it had been repainted actually a different color from factory. It had the judge emblem on the glove box and this was before they reproduced the glove box emblem. Had the Ram Air cable underneath the dash. Blacked out Grill black open hood scoops. It was never advertised as a judge but I thought it might be. I did buy the car.. After buying it I learned to decode the engine and it was a early mid-70s 400 motor.. it had Factory air so if it was a judge It could only be a Ram Air 3. Because Ram Air 4 was not available with AC. After I learned that the original motor was gone I didn't want to put any money into it and I decided to sell the car and I luckily got $900 for it. I wrote the VIN number down because I thought if I ever came across this car in the future for sale I would walk away. A few years later Pontiac started offering for 69 to current a free invoice. This was before PHS was created. Since I still had the VIN number I sent away to Pontiac and about a month later I got a letter and it turned out it was an original judge sold in Daytona Beach. In some ways I wish I kept the car even back then but it needed a lot of body work. the engine did run but the original engine was gone. So I hope it turns out that you have an original judge also

    Have you determined what engine is in there? There's a two-letter code stamped on the front of the passenger side of the block. Looks like your car is a stick shift. A judge ram air 3 would be engine code of WS. I don't recall what a ram air iv engine code is off hand. You can easily Google that. Be really cool if I turn out to be an original Ram Air 4

  • @HotRollBrad

    Whenever you try to rotate a motor that’s sat for a long time, you should pull the plugs and soak the cylinders with Marvel Mystery oil. Pull the valve covers and soak the rockers also. Then put your breaker on the crank and gently turn the motor over. You’re kind of in a hurry and could have damaged the motor.

    • @gt-37guy6
      @gt-37guy6 2 роки тому

      I learned that the hard way on my Tempest GT-37. The 400 had .030" bore with Forged pistons and a very rare cam from back in the day. It had sat for probably 8 or 10 years, and once I got the distributor on the correct tooth (lol) it fired up. it seemed a bit cackle-y but oil press was good and it ran pretty good.. It had crappy headers and was so loud I didn't know the engine was eating the cam up. In two days it did not have crap for power and started looking into it. Wiped out most of the lobes! It was a NEW cam and had not been broken in and the guy put on the heaviest possible valve springs. Wish I could have gone back and took my time. I would have had a better engine than I ended up with and saved around $ 4000.

      Wow, you really dont know jack sht about these cars do you? No way this goat in this current shape is worth anywhere near that amount! I don't believe she's a real judge from what I've seen. This goat is worth this young man restoring IF he knows how to weld and do metal work. It is really not that hard if he has someone to help him a bit to start. Also, do not weld any frame rust! There are a lot of A body frames out there to replace a rusty one with!!

    Been there done that. It will cost you $40K in parts to restore that car, plus 4 to 10 years of HARD dirty labor that you can buy one already DONE ready to go for $50K all day long.

      What happens if it turns out to be an original judge Ram Air 4. Then it'd be at least 100,000 Plus but then again like you said, it could be $ 40,000 maybe $50,000 in parts and many years of Labor. But some people enjoy the thrill have taking a basket case and turning it into a jewel.

      @@ex.spaceshuttle.worker If it was a R/A4 car--- good luck finding a R/A4 motor for it!!!!!! might as well be looking for a good lookin 40 year old Virgin ! lol. I returned a PHS documented real 400/4 speed drag pack convertible Firebird back from the dead for the thrill, , that was a veeeeery STUPID move. I should have paid off my HOUSE ! with what that sucker cost me to finish. Today it's only worth the same as a RS/SS Camaro Hard Top !!! going to take a huge hit on that Bird if I ever sold it. Just sayin.

      I agree, finding an original Ram Air 4 would be almost impossible especially if you're trying to find a certain date code and if one is found it's not going to be cheap. Unless the engine in there is already a ram air 4. Which most likely is not. Until he verifies with PHS whether it's a judge or not this is all speculation. The Firebird convertible 400 sounds like a really nice car. But like you said it took a lot of money and time to restore it. But these cars don't grow on trees to find a Firebird convertible original Factory 400 /4 speed don't sell yourself short. If you ever did sell it you might be surprised to find a person willing to pay good money for it.

    You better have a lot of money if you want to do that car right. And that interior is shot. Do it right and do it right once

      He doesn't need "a lot of money" if he knows how to weld and do metal work!!
