First Drive In 28 Years! 1968 Dodge Charger Garage Find Comes Back To Life

- Today was a great day for Tom and Rocket Restorations, as Tom finally got his hands on a Charger. This car was rear ended on I-405 in 1994 (yes, I misspoke in the video - crazy, right?) It was parked in this garage, where it has waited ever since, collecting genuine barn find dust. Unfortunately, its owner recently passed away, having never gotten to bring the car back to its former glory - despite having collected many parts in preparation. His wife had one wish - to see the car running and back on the road. I am so pleased I got to have a hand in making that a reality - for her, for her late husband, and for the Charger. Alright, for Tom too - even if I’m just a little bit jealous. @rocketresto

You actually inspire me... that sounds weird, but your videos give me hope for all my pieces of garbage that have been sitting for thirty years. Keep it up.

Such a pretty color
JAMIE EVERY EPISODE IS A SPECIAL ONE...😂
Well… maybe 😅
This was a hoot. Thanks!
Beautiful find.
I never would have guessed that there were so many 318 68 chargers.
They’re super common! Really glad mine is a 383 car. But a 318 car to modify would’ve been fine too.
Love your videos, man if you didn't live on the west coast, I'd love to have you come look at my Chargers. Keep up the great work.
Damn that guy has some killer Mopars!
I absolutely love this channel !!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sweet ride
Don't change a thing about your videos. Although a shop dog running around or sleeping in the background would be good. That was a nice Chrysler 300 you looked at on the trip back home was that a buddy of yours? Could you give a quick and dirty explanation of the ballast resistor function? Did other manufacturers besides Mopars have them? Thanks
I have a whole video on Ballast Resistors! It’s called “The Big Ballast Resistor Video.” Yes, other manufacturers used them. ‘57 Chevys had them, for example. My dogs are not well equipped for shop life… one frequently goes on unsanctioned adventures, and the other just barks at everyone and hates children. It’s a problem… can’t remember which 300 that is. There have been several around. Haha.
1972 Dodge Charger SE
I must be a stupid. I never knew that there’s a single exhaust for a 318 V8 Mopar ! I thought every V8 especially Dodge Charger always came up with dual exhaust. ☹️
Long live Charger 👍🏼. Mine is 69 with all the General Lee looks.
Oh, no way. I don’t think any factory 318 car came with dual exhaust - but I could be wrong. The vast majority of these cars had single exhaust from the factory - even big blocks. My big block ‘66 Charger had a single exhaust system. Of course I threw that away and put duals on it, because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Haha. Very cool.
Does the car have cruise control? 22:44
Now that you ask I’m not sure. Haha. Yes, it has an aftermarket cruise control kit.
I had sold my gold 57 Chevy with a 327 in it for $500 and I put $300 more down to get me a $68 Dodge charger 440 Magnum same color as the one in this video in 1973 .I blew the engine and rebuilt it before I went into the military at the age of 19
so how much did this cost you
Was subbed before it was cool. Good job Brother.
Appreciate you! Need to throw your stickers on more stuff. Thank you for existing
👍
Do you have any more information on that NOS 400 block?
I can get details if necessary. It was brand new, on the original pallet and in the original Mopar box. The original plastic is pretty weathered as you can see. Tag is there. It’s a cool piece. If this is something you need in your life, it’s located in Olympia, WA. You can email me at jamienoise@gmail.com and I’ll put you in touch with Tom.
Man i wish i could find an old charger on day
Wish I would of found it
Why can't I find these?
It’s a common problem… they don’t exactly grow on trees.
How did you find that
I didn’t, but Tom did. He is very well plugged into the Mopar world (especially in the Pacific Northwest) and heard through the grapevine that it would be for sale from the estate.
I can't believe the car would survive all these years and then people would try and beat it to death
With one burnout? Lol
@@DeadDodgeGarage so you say. Have a good day
@@tomriggle3217 the car has now had the rear straightened on a frame rack, driver door fixed, interior pulled and cleaned, all brake hydraulics, complete rear brakes, axle seals, fuel tank, and engine compartment wiring replaced, and runs and drives down the road. The tired old 318 will be next to go. I don’t know what you know about Chargers, but mine cost $50k and does block long burnouts periodically. No regrets. I’m having a great day, thanks.
@@DeadDodgeGarage all l can afford 68 RR
Hopefully the license plate isn't a bad omen
So far… so goodish
My guess, they paid under $10,000 for this 68.
Incorrect - well over $10k, but we got a pretty good deal given what the market was like at the time.
How much u want for it
It wasn’t mine, and it’s already sold and heading to Germany
@@DeadDodgeGarage damnn
@@DeadDodgeGarage do u have one for sale lol
This guy's attempt to be funny is so obnoxious it's hard to watch..
PLEASE 🙏 act more professional .
Thank you for your feedback. My personality is apparently annoying to some people. Who knew? So weird, to this point I’ve had many people subscribe, tell me I’m hilarious, and say that I should do stand up (I know, I was shocked too.) I have zero intentions of becoming a boring cookie cutter narrator, so I guess I can’t help you. God luck and good speed.
@@DeadDodgeGarage definitely like what your doing though.
666 ☠️
💀
You have to many cars
I don’t own most of the cars featured in my videos - but you’re still absolutely right. Haha.
I love the charger can't stand the owner annoying
It’s not even my car, but I’m sure you mean me, so 🖕
@@DeadDodgeGarage you just proved my point
a plain 318 charger is MOT a muscle car. its a grocerie getter
Ok buddy. I’m mot sure myself
Torture
Welcome to it
Great perfect licence # 666 BDD= 666 Badass Dusty Dodge! 👌🏴☠️
What a awesome find! Sorry to hear the previous owner passed before he could restore it, but congratulations to Tom for being lucky enough get one! Awesome you were able to help get it back going again!
Even in that condition, that car is just gorgeous. Timeless classic design. Thanks for sharing.
This looked just like my late father’s MIA charger until I saw the A/C , I would like to find it but since they sell for more than their weight in gold I’ll skip it.
Pretty sure I'd soil my pants if I found a Charger like that.
Dude I just read an article about this on Auto evolution, prepare to get big
Ohhh shit!
Yep, coming from there too
Same, stopped halfway through the article to find the video
Same here 👍
I love this channel the old beautiful chargers are my dream car and seeing them close up is gold
You located in Washington??? I’m here in Lakewood. Small world
Yep, I’m out here in the damp armpit that is Grays Harbor. Unlike some people, I actually love it here - but the almost constant rain is a little bit of a let down.
Wow!-looks like a cool haul on a too hot day!
I am missing my '68 Camaro. All it needed was a new engine. Hope that it is still on the road.
Charger Wonderland (accompanied with sound effects of magical things happening)!! Awesome man, keep up the hilarity and the Mopars. What a combination... (euphoric dreamy smile pasted to my face)
I love the content
But the way he talks is the one and only reason why im not watching anymore !!!
You and a bunch of other people apparently! Unfortunately I can’t change who I am anymore than you can
@@DeadDodgeGarage
Hey man don't change a damn thing
Thats only my opinion
Dont take it the wrong way I'm just way to open and honest sometimes for my own damn good
Im sure there are lots of people that hate things about me also
Wait did I say sure ? I meant know lol
Keep it up I love the old dodges
Have a 68 myself
The tag number!!!
It looks like it has a angry face when looking at the rear. Fantastic video!
The Northwest is not kind to vehicles in storage
No… I once bought a ‘55 Chrysler that had been inside for many years, but shoved outside for the previous ten. It looked really solid… until I started poking at it. All that was holding the rockers and doors together was paint. We’re lucky (and pleased) around here if things are only missing lower quarters and some bits of floor.
Don’t change a thing in how you present your videos. Some people are so prim and proper. If they don’t like how you narrate your videos. They can turn the volume down. As for me, I’m from the South. So I don’t get to tell someone how to speak😂. I enjoy your narrating and you can hear the positive energy of a future Mopar burning up the road. Thanks for taking us along. Looking forward to your next video.
Haaahaha. I love it. Thank you. This video was a year ago, and since then, people seem to have gotten pretty accustomed to my style. I still get some criticism, but it’s a lot less. No idea why that is.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I hope you gave her fair market value for that car cause out here in the badlands.....
They would want 45000 for all that
@@DeadDodgeGaragehot ....?
I have two words for you.....
Southern...!!!!!!.
Louisiana.......!!!!!!
@@clevelandmaker386 Three words for you! No, thank, you!
That’s it !! I’m going and looking in every barn in a 1000 mile radius from me 😂😂😂😂. I love seeing this stuff.
Haaaahaha. Just let me know if you find any Chargers, fast back Barracudas, or Dart Swingers.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I just bought a 69 Charger ( General Lee ). Unfortunately it wasn’t a barn find so I paid stupid money for it lol. That charger is on my channel if you want to check it out. I know you’ll like it and my other cars. Enjoy and keep these videos coming 💪🏽
@@francosgarage1979 oh, I paid ridiculous money for my red ‘68. But hey, if my dream only costs a Cobra replica (that I got a screaming deal on) and five project cars and trucks… I’d make that deal again.
General looks super nice!
@@DeadDodgeGarage Thank you ! This stuff is so addicting and I love it 😂 I’ve paid stupid money for several of my cars but when you love something it really don’t matter. I know you know what I mean when I say that lol.
I’ll keep watching your videos 👊🏽
F the new chargers I was 18 my first car 68 383 MAGNUM CHARGER THERE IS ONLY ONE CAR BETTER 71 HEMI CUDA WOUDA SHOUDA CUUUDDDAA.
I dunno, I kinda like new Chargers. Kinda.
HOT COCOA IS FOR CLOSER'S ALSO.. 😂
Nice find.😎
Mid 80s use to find these 318 Chargers from $400-600 canadian. Wish I had bought every one of them.
Yep… wish I had been around for those times.
I recognized Tom. I did a roll cage is ago in a rusty ass Mopar for Lemons/chumpcar.
Nice! We’re getting ready-ish to do another one, so our people may be calling your people 😅
THAT LICENSE PLATE SCARES ME,NOT THE BACK BUMPER...😳..👹
Lol
Hey! Stop stealing Chargers out Of Missouri... 😂😂😂
I ain’t never done that… *yet*
Nice charger!! My first car was a 1968 Fury, 318 2 bbl, A/C, automatic. I loved that car! Going into town one evening, some drunk individual turned right in front of me, no room to stop! Thanks to a recent four wheel break job there was four black marks trying to stop! Busted motor mounts and radiator, it wasn't the same after the accident! Now I wish I had it! It had the neat fender turn signal indicators which I loved! It ran good and would do 110 easily! Your channel brings back many memories!! Thanks for all you do, I'm sad it took me so long to find your channel!!👍☺️❤️
Is all you do is hold the camera and talk like a child? Super nice charger tho
I build engines, diagnose problems, and rewire classic Mopars in my sleep - as well as run this entire UA-cam channel single-handedly. Camera, editing, managing, wrenching, and yes - talking, which really annoys some people. I save classic Chrysler products from otherwise certain death. I waste hours and hours of my life helping people by answering their questions, and dealing with insulting comments like this one. I am a fully self taught mechanic and tuner of classic vehicles. Did I mention I also perform and record the sound track music by myself?
The thing about my voice is that it’s my voice, and there’s not much I can do about it. Over everything else - my insight, my humor (which some people actually appreciate - crazy, right?) and my willingness to help, my voice is unique. And in a world where a million other people are trying to do this, that’s worth a lot. How much is it worth? Enough that I now make more money off of this channel than either of my three other jobs.
In any case, I don’t suppose you’ll be hanging around, and that’s fine by me! 👋
New subscriber, new fan. Do you work in daily driver, non-Dodge cars like Crown Vics? Do you and your boss let YT followers onto your lot? I might be less than 30 minutes from you, depending on where you work.
At our shop in the olympia area, we are exclusively classic Mopar. I do work on other stuff from time to time here at my place in Aberdeen - but I try to avoid it 🙂
@@DeadDodgeGarage It does seem like you already have MORE than enough irons in the fire. As another commenter says, your channel inspires me to do something. You have something that many UA-camrs do not, which is that you do work already that is interesting to many car enthusiasts. Also you have a natural speaking and presenting style that keeps people watching. I am a few hours north of Olympia, and even if I was near the shop there I would not want to take you and your boss away from your work by talking to someone who is not a customer. I wish I had a classic Dodge that needed work 🙂, but then again I also have too many irons in the fire. I will keep watching though!
Does anyone else like the sound of that starter when it is cranking over?
I love all kinds of cranking sounds, but Mopar starters just crank the best, you know what I mean?
I know exactly what you mean, that is just an amazing sound! I never get tired of it!
That Charger is straight from HELL!
Oh I don’t know about all that
Would have been a really good video except for the extremely irritating narration
Thanks, I love you too!
I've always been more of a Chevy guy but the there were so many cool cars produced in the '60's this is a good example of one of them.
I really like the '68 Charger
That car is a diamond in the rough yes I love it. And ur voice is awesome it’s soothing. Don’t worry about the haters. Do u. Thank u for sharing
Great find Jamie 😃. I knew I could watch one of your videos and get a chuckle, you didn't let me down thanks 😊
7:16 BLOOD FOR THE CAR GODS!
Always with the blood… yesterday I gave a probably broken toe to the car gods when an a control arm was suddenly and unexpectedly affected by gravity. So that’s fun.
If only my mega millions ticket had come through for me 😭
I could hear banjo music every time you jumped through the window. 😂😂 Thanks man.
🤔🤔😬 666
Great Find. Looks like a fun project:)
how do you afford these cars? 👍
Well I didn’t buy this one, or many of the cars I have featured (I do usually say when the cars are not mine.) I buy cheap pieces of crap usually. The Demon, I bank financed. The red ‘68 Charger, I sold five or six other cars and a car trailer. I’m a hard working guy who makes extra money selling parts and projects.
The way the tires sound burning rubber in those first 4 seconds, sounds like a beast, just like the car was intended to be
It’s beautiful but someone put a lot of work into those headlight covers, not one of them lined up from the factory…. 😊
Seriously though… it’s an embarrassment.
@@DeadDodgeGarage ~ ok!,, I never won a contest before. Wow when can I come and get it?
@@LTV_inc I am so confused lol
I want to remove all the dust. Wait, I do but I don’t. 😂 I am a professional fabricator and manage a pretty large business. I have everyone in the office saying “it’s fine, it’s totally fine” All because I keep saying it like you do in your videos. Im a big fan dude keep it up.
Yeah I had the same feeling. That color is so beautiful… but it’s only original dust once! Omg. I love everything about that. I’m flattered. Thanks for watching!
side note, ‘Max Wedgie’ is absolutely genius and I kneel before you on that one
@@DeadDodgeGarage wish I could find a car like that
Nice we got to keep these old irons on the road
By the looks of the red line on the tack it definitely wasn't beat
You couldn’t wash it ?😢
I did in another video 😅
Ya know...he didn't say no when you asked if it could be your commuter... 🤔🤔
Oh… I know. Haha. Important details.
Love it! It’s sooo big! 😅
That's what she said lol
fish are food, not friends
Wait a second…
Bad plate number
It’s awesome
ARE THOSE FACTORY RIMS OR HUB CAPS??? 🤔
It should have had 14” steel wheels and full wheel covers from the factory.
@@DeadDodgeGarage THX..
Man, another '68!
That's awesome.
Hey Jamie, where do you prefer to get patch-panels,rocker panels, & cab corners specifically for an '83 D150? "AMD" is useless when it comes to Dodge trucks.
I haven’t actually gotten around to buying any yet. I bought a wheel lip / bed side patch once but can’t remember who made it. It was missing the hump lines above the wheel opening and wasn’t very nice, but we made it work. AMD is of course the way for car stuff. The only patches I’ve done in trucks were hand made.
But the plate says 666. Run
Man I love that video it inspires me to play the lotto more often so I can get my 68 resto mod with my 572 cubic inch hemi and disc brakes of course but no traction control because we all know back in the day traction control was your right foot, airbags who needs a broken nose, and really who cares about all that body roll you just punch it a little bit and start drifting the back end you forget all about that body roll" but one question I've never really ever had answered well at least back in the day when there was no internet the last three numbers of the rear end indicating the type of pinion the 789 and the 742 I've always heard was better than the 741 out of the three I know one has a tapered pinion one has a collapsible bearing yada yada yada but that's about as far as it went so if there's anybody out there that's knowledgeable about those three rear ends in question and can finally resolve the answer once and for all as which is the best and the more heavy duty
I have a really nice Mustang but I play the Lotto so if I win I can buy a Supercharged Mustang convertible and or a new Scat Pak Widebody Charger. Either one of those would really get me excited. I can't really modify my current Mustang with a supercharger or anything else because it is one of the 500 Parnelli Jones Mustangs and it is really cool just as it is!
thanks for share... from Argentina!
666 plate, Christine reincarnated ?
That's awesome! Save that baby! That car is in great shape!
The legendary old reliable 318
My favorite year of the Charger👍
Man what an awesome find. All it needs is to get rid of or build the lame 318 and give it some actual power and it would be an amazinger car!
Tom has ideas. My inclination is always to leave stock stuff alone as much as possible, but the 318 smokes so all bets are off!
You guys have all the fun!
Great content love the channel
I just got around to watching this, OMG- what a barn find, and all the extra Parts...oh man 😲
It was really cool. It’s actually decent and running and driving now!
Awesome 318!
Very nice find
Run 5-10 gallons fuel and 4-5 ounces of the Lucas fuel system cleaner. Should clean up all that exhaust smoke. Maybe. But I would try it. I’ve had really good success with it in engines that have been sitting around way too long.
No… she’s got a dead hole unfortunately. We’ve swapped it for a Magnum 360 now!
What A SCORE
It has the typical Western Washington rot but the license plate numbers would concern me more than that! When you find one in Eastern Washington they are typically much better rust wise! I bought a 69 Camaro a while back that just sat under a carport of 30 years without being run that only had a few pinholes under the rear window on the drivers side. Most likely because it is a vinyl top car! Anyhow I hope the car doesn't have any bad Ju Ju from it's plate number!
I’m not worried 😅 it hasn’t burst into flames or anything… yet
@@DeadDodgeGarage It is kind of odd especially in these times! Don't get me wrong the car is cool but I am a bit superstitious! My family is from the hills of Eastern Kentucky and I heard a lot of ghost stories and such from the old timers who were still alive in the sixties when I was a kid. Anyhow you will get new plates when you do the transfer so all might be well!
