FORGOTTEN 40 YEARS! Pontiac Ventura Sprint Rescue
Вставка

- We purchase a new project car! This 1972 Pontiac Ventura Sprint has been off the road and abandoned in a storage unit since 1984! We dig the car out and drag it home to assess the damage and see how we plan to move forward on this ratty muscle car project. We usually deal with chevy Nova's but nothing can stop us from putting this ol three pedal bench seat manual transmission Pontiac back on the road slamming gears where it belongs!
Look how excited your son is that you didn't buy another Nova.
Hahaha I could have brought home a vw beetle and he would be into it! He just likes helping work on them and getting them back on the street.
As a Nova owner myself (69 SS Clone), it is very refreshing to see someone who is as passionate about them. Virtually nobody on UA-cam out there restoring and focusing on them. That makes what your doing very exciting and enjoyable to watch.
My first car was a 71 Ventura II, 6 cylinder 4 door, drove it in high school in the 80's..built like a tank, good times! :)
Wow! Nice score! Really looking forward to seeing where you take this cool old ride! Definitely enjoying your content...very good to see another budget builder, doing what he can with what he's got. 👍👍👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the content and like our new project car!
looking forward to seeing this build you show people you don't need big bucks to get started in the hobby But I hope we get to go to Mike's house to check on that Duster project
hey love your videos, watching your channel all the way from denmark, admire your drive and ability for exciting content, looking forward to your new project.
Man at first I thought it was as worse than my 72 nova but actually might be more solid 🤣
It’s crazy how rusty quarter panels can really make a car look like a P.O.S lol. The car is really pretty solid and is all there except for a motor.
I love your son's comments he steals the show every time he has the camera....lol.
Haha he’s definitely a natural!
Very cool my first car was a 1974 ventura absolutely love those cars awesome find😮
Thanks Floyd!
Congrats on the 8K followers! Been watching since 1K followers. The new project looks amazing!!!!
Thank you! I appreciate those of you that have stuck with me from the beginning so much! Super excited for this project and testing and using some of our other projects at the track this year! It’s gonna be a good time for sure!
Awesome channel man. Congratulations on the new score
Thanks! Glad you like the channel!
That is a great car and quite solid. I always kind of liked those cars as they have a unique look. I am looking forward to the build like your others. Hang some quarters on there and it will be a pretty solid car. I like the budget builds you do. Cool it is a 3 speed too. The Saginaw 3 speeds are tough. They are used in lower class local stock car racing all the time. There is nothing wrong with them. The 4 speed Saginaw is a decent transmission too. The worst thing about them is they usually came with dogshit shifters. Add a quality Hurst shifter to this 3 speed as well as the 4 speed Saginaw you have and they shift fine and will hold a lot more power than people give them credit for. I have beat the shit out of them with over 400HP. If either your 3 speed or 4 speed Saginaw still don't shift well with a good Hurst shifter then do a rebuild. The overhaul kits are dirt cheap and I am sure you could learn how to do it yourself. For this car get it running on a budget with some new quarters and drop an engine in it. It would be cool to see you do a budget big block swap in this or one of your other cars. If not, a 383 or 400 Small block would be cool to see. Have fun with the build and I look forward to watching it all. Thanks for the content.
Hell yeah! Excited about this project!
Me too! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for this thing!
Always liked the Ventura’s
They are pretty neat and you definitely don’t see very many today. I could probably count on one hand how many I’ve seen in person. 100% never seen a sprint package car before.
I had a buddy with one in the late 90’s. It was all original except the custom black and blue paint job. I wish I had a pic of it. I’ve wanted one ever since. Can’t remember what V8 was in it. Had Pontiac rallies. Sharp car. Congratulations
I want to see this one get a good paint job, once all the body panels are fixed. Good find!
Thanks! You are not the first to mention a paint job. Hmmmm maybe lol.
My son and I are resto-moding a 72 Ventura. My dad bought the car new for my Mom (still have the window sticker). It became mine when I turned 16 and was my daily driver until 1998 and has sat in the garage until we started tearing it down last summer. All Nova sheet metal will work except for tail light panel, hood and fenders as you pointed out in the video. If for some reason you replace the rear tail light panel for a Nova one. I would be interested in the tail lights themselves...
That’s awesome mark! I hope to get this car back on the road with my son! I’m pretty sure we are going to keep the Ventura tail panel but if that changes I will let you know for sure! Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the build series on this car. Not a whole lot of Ventura content out there.
That Pontiac is awesome! Super solid build! Let’s appreciate it for what it is. Like you said it has the wiring. Most of the metal is pretty much mint. the interiors there. I mean throw a quarter panel on there , clean up the metal throw a paint job on it paint the wheels and man…. I’m jealous.
lol
I like your thinking! I wanna get this thing back on the street ASAP. Quarters a lil paint, engine, and off we go!
Cool car Man!! It’s got the 8.5” 10 bolt too!
I know I’m pretty stoked about that! I just checked the gear ratio and it’s got some 3.08’s in it.
Awesome find glad all the pontiac parts are there . Can't wait to see what you do with the ventura!
Thanks Daniel!
I grew up with a guy he had one and wherever he went someone would say ha nice nova. It’s a rear bird you definitely did good with that one
looking forward to this build!
Thanks man! I think it’s gonna be a good one!
Hey bro, my first car I bought back in 1988 was a 1974 Pontiac GTO. I bought it for $250 bucks. I was 16 lol so love this Ventura. Love your content also
Love your channel!! Congrats on 8000 subs. Definitely an inspiration to me. I’m a nova guy myself. Mostly first gens. But I’ve done a few second and thirds.
Keep up the good work!!
You made a good decision that car is very rare I've been looking for one for years so I pray you restore it 😂
I had no idea when I bought it but you are right this car may not have been that rare when it was new but in 2024 Ventura cars/parts are super hard to find! Luckily this car was 99% complete. Only things missing were 1 bumper bracket and a headlight bezel haha
It’s a cool car, my 72 was gold with a white painted top.
307 auto, I have a 72 nova now
I like the Ventura but I’d still prefer a nova every time haha.
That car is awesome. My parents had one when I was a kid and I remember them having to put 1 qrt of oil and 1 qrt of transmission fluid in it everyday. Finally wouldn't move one day they sent it to have a transmission put in it and they called and said it needed an engine too. So off to the junkyard it went. It was a 307 and green.
I look forward to your quarter panel repair… nice Nova cousin🙃
Thanks!
Nice ride. I'm sure most 71 or 72 nova parts will fit. Winter project. Keep up the great work. Keep your friend away from the glass lol. Thanks
Going to be very cool. What you found was the tag that ID's that seat to the car as it came down the assembly line, you can find them in the springs of the front ant rear seats and it should have the car last vin numbers on it. The are cool to find as I found them in my Nova.
After taking another look at it you are right. Super cool! I think I’m just gonna shove it back where I got it from! Probably safest there lol. Thank you!
I'm excited to see what you do with this one
I’m excited for this project too! I think it’s gonna be a good one!
Looks like it's solid in all the right places, not to Bad 👍👍
Definitely a solid rig! Plus V8, bench seat, 3 pedals, and posi makes it a proper street machine! Can’t wait to get this thing back on the streets.
I stand corrected, after watching the full video the Pontiac/Nova is actually not in that bad of shape. Got luck with the project
The Pontiac wheels are sweet!
They are pretty rad! I even have the original trim rings for them
@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 are you gonna put a Pontiac power plant in the Ventura?
That car is awesome can’t wait for the build
Definitely gonna follow this build. Makes me more excited about my 1970 Nova project
You done good Dan. I usually just buy something for mine and then tell the wife, "Come on baby, time for a road trip." Lol
Hahaha I promise I bet your wife appreciates a ride in your car vs a ride in one of my hoopty’s lol. Imagine pulling up to a fancy restaurant and valet parking the Jenko haha.
Super cool car man love what ur doin can’t wait to see what you do with it
Thanks man! Can’t wait for you guys to see what I got in store for this unit!
Awesome find. If it was all one color people would see it differently. I also have a 72 ventura its actually my second one. I always liked the 73 grill but not th 73-74 body. Quarters are a given on all of them. Looking forward to watching this build!
This is a great find. You need to finish this as best you can and get the orange paint and stripes done. really love your kids
Thanks! My kids agree with you. They want the stripes back on it for sure. We will see. I wanna get those quarters and toe boards fixed asap so when we can it back on the road!
Considering we have nearly the exact same car I'd fix it up and get it running well enough to take it out and enjoy it. Make sure you stick with that goofy orange. I hated the color when I bought mine but it's definitely grown on me.
I feel the exact same way! At first I wasn’t a fan of the orange but it’s been growing on me. My kids want me to put the sprint stripe back on it though.
Good find brother love seeing it when it's done
Thanks David! It will definitely be a cool car!
Right on Hatch I always liked the venturas it will be cool to see how it turns out
Thanks Sean! It definitely a neat little car and I’m excited to see what the future holds for it
Man what a great car. Small block w/3 spd., Posi.,Really cool. Well worth new quarters and fresh orange paint. (at some point). DUBS,,,
You got a good one there definitely worth saving 👌
Just started the video I live in buffalo NY. I'm a Pontiac guy I have a 72 Catalina a 1980 Grand Lemans. All garage built so I'm super excited for this one. Not sure if you sell any but I would be interested later.
I usually don’t sell them but if I decided to I’ll let you know. I’m pretty excited for this project and hope you guys are gonna love it!
For a rotten looking car that thing is pretty solid, nice score. Plus as a bonus it came with Pontiac Rally rims.😎👍
I'd love to find a 69 to 70 nova to fix up myself just like the last few I've seen you do. It takes some work, but to have a running nova on the road is nice to see.
Heck yes Ronald. Do it! You won’t regret it.
Your son is gonna make a great UA-camr, he's freakin hilarious🤣Now you don't have anymore room for a crew cab Nova, Dan!
Hard to believe your channel isn't bigger
I appreciate that Patrick! Glad you think our content is worthy of a larger audience. Maybe it will continue to grow.
@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 With an attitude like yours and skills the sky is the limit, good luck my friend!
Looking to see what you do with this ol girl love my novas and Pontiacs this ol girl needs a 455 4speed though she would be nasty great drag street combo love your videos and content you put out and your beautiful little family and buds great youtube watching keep it coming
Thanks Ricky! Glad you enjoy the videos. I would love to keep this thing Pontiac powered but honestly not sure which way we are going with it just yet. Right now number one priority is fixing that rust and getting it reassembled.
I had a 74 GTO Ventura love that car I should have kept it
The 74 has the best grill and that shaker hood on the gto is super killer!
Lookin 4ward to another vid on this Pontiac.
I had one years ago and should have kept it. It was a 73 with the long thin tail lights.
Looks good, should be a good build!
Thanks Michael!
My dad had one like it he sold about 40 years ago maybe 42 he had a 455 shoved in it with a mild cam. He swore it was a rocket ship. Go big block pontiac in it that'd be cool to see how much tire shredding torque it'd have.
455 would be awesome! I would love to keep it Pontiac powered but honestly not sure what we are doing yet. Fixing the rust is number one priority for now.
Sundance orange sprint with a manual trans, nice find.
Great find kiddo
Thanks Kevin!
I had a 1977 Pontiac Ventura.
Almost scored one of them from an auction a few months back. They are pretty neat little cars!
Did you know that the most beautiful part in the video is when your son takes the camera? Good boy 😂
Cool car, I dig the orange.
The orange has definitely been growing on me since I got it home.
I seen that one floating around on marketplace for a little while. Couldn't see much from the pics, had a feeling it had some rough spots. I can relate on parts availability having a 71 Ventura myself. Very cool you got a manual car.👍
I wound up getting it for the right price cuz the owner just needed it to go. The only parts we figured out we were missing once getting everything sorted was 1 headlight bezel and the drivers side front bumper bracket. I found the bezels at Allentown swap meet this past weekend now I just gotta locate a front bumper bracket and I’ll have the whole car. I’ve seen the videos of your Ventura. It’s a cool ride!
@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 Awesome! I believe the Olds and buick versions use the same fenders and front bumpers, may be able to find a bracket from one of those.
Dunno how you do it convincing the wife. Nice work.
You gotcha a good 72 there .
It's a good thing the previous owner employed salt as a lightening strategy
Would love to see a Pontiac, at least 400 in it but I know that would be much more expensive.
I too would like to see it Pontiac powered. Definitely not a cheap route. Honestly not sure at all which direction we are going yet. For now just looking to get it rust free.
Another Ventura rises from the grave. Got a 74 GTO hatch for 3k in my area. Good running drivetrain rusty ass hatch.
Clean it up and put it back to its original glory
I got 74 Same color but with pontiac 350 and automatic and gto grille
Heck yea! That gto grill is sweet!
I had a shitbox 75 nova custom, had the stock 262 v8 with about 135k on the clock. I met up with a guy that had a Ventura at a gas station and we ran down the road, he beat me on acceleration, but the 262 kept pace at the 90-100ish range
Cool beans, good bones 😎
Thanks Donny! Car is a great builder that’s for sure!
Nice car can u use nova quarter for it ? You might have to manipulate them to work . Or you can sell to me lol good luck look like a fun project
Hey Sean! Yes the nova quarter will work without any crazy modifications. Only parts on this that are different then a nova are the tail panel, fenders, and grill. Everything else is a direct correlation.
You can put nova quarter and inner wheel well to make a repair on that Pontiac, and I think just paint it with a turbo can
Build it!!!!
Heck yea!
I had a 71 Ventura and I put a 69 nova front clip on it 😊
Put a Pontiac 400 or 455 in it.
I’d love to keep it Pontiac powered but we will see. Not at that point yet. Step 1 is gonna be fixing those quarter panels!
You could probably get nova quarters to fit with some minor sheet metal work?
I need to buy a storage unit, what people spend on storage is crazy.
Storage unit rates near me are INSANE! However being that we found this car in the middle of nowhere and the owner had been storing it for 20+ years in the same unit I’d imagine he wasn’t paying to much.
Honestly, scissors is rares. You say it as I would probably could do a complete restoration of it.
If you can afford to find the parts and get them complete restoration. So beautiful car but I wouldn't go where they 305 or 307 I would go big forbolt May 350 or 396. Are you in a 400 Pontiac 400?
awesome
GOT a soft spot for Older Gm x body , This coming from Ford Guy
Awesome content, I'd like to know what you pay for something like that I'd like to buy a var
Thanks harry! Glad you like the videos. I scooped this car up for less than 2k. Pricing usually depends on how complete the project is and what parts go with it.
Love the project. Natural camera presence. What you thinking on engine?
60, 72, 86 El Camino in my stable. 👍😁
Glad you like the project! Honestly have no idea which direction we are taking this thing yet. Super interested to see what you guys think. Keep it Pontiac powered (expensive) or slap a small block in it (cheap) or ls swap (also expensive). That’s an awesome fleet of el caminos you got there!!
@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 God, no LS. Enough of that. Points and condenser. Lol
@@VideoServicesVB I actually agree with you 110% I haven’t been convinced for a second on the ls swap in any of my vehicles. To expensive and difficult to self service.
ya score...rare colour as well..SWEET..Biggest problem I see with a car like this is...well you'll never want to part with it..
With how good a car that is, I hope you paint it, but not expensive. Do something like doing the bodywork yourself and take it to Maaco for a quick and cheap job. Just to show it can be done cheaply. Oh, I'd put a Pontiac V8 in it too, but that's just me.
Nice! ✋ 👏
You gonna leave the Pontiac rally's on it ?
Hmmmm not sure yet. Still deciding on a direction for this project. They are pretty cool wheels tho
You can never have too many lol
You got that right!
The second car that I owned was a 71 Pontiac Ventura II with a 307 what is a two barrel carb
I can't imagine how much in storage fees that guy has paid since 1985!
whats with the Nova tail lights Pontiac Ventura tail lights are two horizontal strips are they not ?
Small block 400 and a4 speed sleeper
Put a 428 or 455 Pontiac engine in it and make it a 4spd
Maybe! I definitely like your thinking!!
Doesn't the fact its called a sprint mean it had the ohc i6 and if thatythe case it should get the 4 barrel 6 i know in the firebird it cost more than most v8s and had over 200 hp
Did anyone else notice the posi sticker on inside of trunk lid?
Heck yea I did! Haha car has a factory installed 8.5 10 bolt posi with 3.08 gears! Also factory front and rear sway bars
Yeah , if you push it fast enough it sounds like it's running and has a burnt valve, pop pop pop pop
Hope you got that Nova for free. 😅
Name the car ace ventura 😆
Hahaha Id have to start wearing Hawaiian shirts and rocking that wild hair lol
That steering wheel is worth alittle money if its in good shape........
The steering wheel is in Great shape! I really like that spoked wheel.
thats about a 800$ wheel@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
I prefer the 74 nose... if that's easy swap i say do that... if it's problematic then leave it...
Jesus talk about put away wet
May have only been on the road 12 years but it was definitely driven! Haha. Surprisingly besides those cooked quarters, rusty toe boards, and the cooked trunk lid the rest of the car is SUPER solid.
Bro I need them wheels I have a 73 Ventura
Are these wheels hard to find??
