Thanks for actually reviewing a base model instead of exclusively the highest trim with all the expensive nonsense like every other video out there!
Looks much less weird than the Prius
This is true!
Toyota is the king of hybrids
@@janetrohrbaugh6494 This is true but the fuel efficiency on this Hyundai is better.
They’re great cars. Shitty to work on. But, my wife’s has 40k miles and NO electrical issues or anything so far.
Hyundai achieving that level of efficiency with a DCT transmission is astonishing. Great review.
I've put over 1200 miles on mine and totaling 63.5 mpg for the life of the vehicle. I routinely get 70+ mpg for my daily 40 mile trip to and from work.
That’s madness
how much does a full tank last you?
@@Uberslavewithabmw I can't remember ... traded this in for a Maverick Hybrid, which, according to the computer, has gotten me 49 mpg over the life of 4800 miles driving 40-50 mph to and from work and chores.
Nice to see you review a base model. I’m always curious how the base models look but never get to see because almost all of the reviewers just review the top model. Will you be reviewing the Ev version soon?
Hybrids are the better alternative to those costly electric cars. You have the availability of the existing gas stations so you don’t get range anxiety and you can feel good about protecting the environment. It looks much better than the hideous Prius but I’ll go with the Honda Insight.
So true!
Just keep a microfiber towel in the center console with your Twinkies to wipe off the fingerprints LOL!
AGREED!
Nice little fuel sipper. Hyundai continues to improve with every new model. Nice job Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Like other people said, thank you for showing us the base model!
Of course! I like to bring the variety Eric!
When the Ioniq's steering wheel looks more sporty than the new Sonata's steering wheel lol
Thanks a lot for the review!
You are such a good auto reporter. All of your videos are top notch. Its just too bad that automakers don't make a wide variety of vehicles to talk about anymore.
Thanks for saying that! You are so very right!
Just bought my 2020 ioniq after watching your review. Thanks much. For the price, this car offers way more than its competitors.
Congrats!
How's it treated you so far in 4 years?
Great review as always
Ok Joe. How the heck is this a fricking Hybrid with a 6 Speed Automatic Transmission & on top of that a damm Dual Clutch Transmission ☠🤯.
I know right!
@@RaitisRides LOL
Cause Hyundai does things right

My dream hybrid sedan! Good review Joe.
Yes thank you I’ve been waiting for this car♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️
Great review brother
This car is freaking awesome 🔥🔥
Great review!
OK Joe I’m going to head out to my garage and polish my GT 350 I hope you get yours soon.
Fingers crossed! Thanks for stopping by.
I like the body design more over the Prius
Love my new Ioniq Plug-in and can't beat that 10 year/100000 warranty
I have a 2018 gas/hybrid Ioniq; not a powerful or fun car to drive, but in electric blue it's beautiful and I consistently get 60+ mpg. Great economy car.
Thanks for sharing that info from your ownership John.
the air vents under the grill, on either side of the logo, are open in e mode to keep the engine cool - they close automatically on the highway for aerodynamic efficiency
I got that one. Love it❤️
Way better looking then the old one. Great review as always. Crap that thing gets insane mileage. With the 11.9 gallon tank this will go more then 600 miles on a tank. Impressive. I could drive to California from Albuquerque and only have to fill up once. Crazy. Ha ha at 14:35 you see the domestic Ford Focus driving on its 4th dual clutch transmission.
As soon as I saw the video I had to correct you on the title. I believe it’s spelled ioniq with a Q not a C. Awesome car, my friend has an ultimate model (Canada)
Thanks man it was the freaking autocorrect! I appreciate it!
Great job Joe and big guns, it's a great price point! Please review the higher trims. Thx again, thanking more into buying one of these but will have to drive the Toyota Prius prime and Honda accord Hybrid
we LOVE our IONIQ! I have lots of vids on youtube about road life with ours, we even camp in it! best mpg so far in real life with ours is 67 mpg! fun car!
Had an opportunity to drive one as my rental car trip, definitely recommend it for a personal commuter car. Saved a ton of gas for my trip and enjoyed all the options it offered. Used cruise control for most of the trip and shockingly the car seemed to be driving itself. Still prefer having more control while driving but the assist really helped and made the experience even better.
Thanks for sharing that great input!
How did you put gas or did it need a charge ?
@@Treygunz12 The car uses regular fuel and the hybrid battery recharges itself while driving. Regenerative braking I believe is what it's called.
@@kubovu any info on how the system works? I am really interested in the technical part, how do they mate the gasoline engine and the electric motor to the transmission
@@arbjful On that part I'm not knowledgeable enough to really say much.
It looks great!
Thanks for letting me share it with you David!
Great review, you took a boring little car and made it very interesting.
i love the ioniq my bother needs a car i told him about this car 😍😊👏👏
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
I love this car. Hyundai and KIA hybrids are killing it!
Previous experience with the dual clutch (2016 Veloster), as well as plenty of step-automatics, I've actually grown very accustom to Kia's "iVT." I've had CVT's too, namely from Nissan, which were terrible, but I have to rate the iVT, used in my 2020 Forte GT-Line, as one of my favorite transmissions, next to my 2016 Charger's 8-speed auto.
Thanks for sharing that great ownership input Justin.
Great review Joe....as always. I know you may have driven the Kia Niro hybrid as well. Which on did you like better, does one ride better than the other or is one quieter? Thanks!
I would go with this Ioniq!
I'd really like a video of the plug-in hybrid. thanks
Just picked one up last week. Black ioniq base model. Love it.
You still feel that way?
@@theforce5191 yup. Very good gas saver
@@dreammusicvancouver have you had any issues with the electronic components? I'm considering getting a 2020 blue and read some reviews saying there's issues with electronics
I have a blue ioniq base model 👍
@@theforce5191 only concern I have is there some clicking noise inside the center console. I bring it in dealership they haven't fix the problem
The video title led me to believe this would be a comparison between the Ioniq and the Prius, but there was surprisingly little mention of the Prius in the video at all.
Putting down the rear seats looked more like a one two four me LOL
White Knight 😂👍🏻PERFECT
Is this car going to get good mpg on the highway or is a plug in hybrid better for that?
It’s 1000% better than Prius because I have one ☝️ and sometimes is giving me 690 miles when is full of gas around 59 mpg
Gonna save so much money on gas this definitely gonna be my new daily driver. While my Redeye charger stays safe in the garage.
I would like to watch higher trim video for this model.
There’s a red limited version that was reviewed by a guy from Denmark on UA-cam. I bought the limited version a few days ago and the tech is amazing. Coming from a BMW 3 series the interior fit/quality is as good or better.
Mine is blue and I love her
At the beginning of the video - higher trims don't have fog lamps though, I believe they're just DRLs.
Please review the full electric model
What do you expect from the drivers down in gods waiting room Joe? They’re all looking for a place to pull over and die LOL!
This is true.
Raiti's Rides I should elaborate on that I live in a town that is 50% retirement communities and the other half regular residences I live literally one city block from the first retirement community and just going out of my neighborhood I run into many old farts who can’t drive to save their life it really gets frustrating when you’re driving a high horsepower car and you can’t really drive it anywhere that’s the way it is here in toms River.Did I mention that I’m 64 years old? And I’m calling the other people farts LOL!
Sadly the rear killed it & the rear door back kinda resembling the Toyota Prius 😕
Not really my cup of Tea but hey I'll watch this

What do you think of this versus the Honda Insight 2020???
It's a great car! I have a review coming soon.
Just got loaded 2020 ioniq plugin with my gf - so much tech and it handles flat (I daily drive a Mazda 3 on coilovers, upgraded sway/strut bars and an mr2 turbo with almost every suspension mod that I track so I have a lot of experience in this area). Coming from an older 3 series and the interior quality is as good. Compared to the Prius it has much better acceleration (dual clutch transmission), more space inside and trunk wise, and best of all isn’t ugly like the Prius. The warranties are literally twice as long as the Prius also. The 360 degree sensors help a ton in traffic and parking. The infotainment is easy to use and also android auto. I’ve only owned Mazda’s and Toyotas (BMW is gfs) my entire life but will be buying a genesis or Hyundai or Kia as my next car because of how good this car is.
Congrats!
Also, life time battery warranty for the first owner
@@ft9kop not on the 2020 unfortunately. There's a lot of aftermarket companies that replace batteries other hybrids, hopefully they come out for this car by the time the warranty expires.
@@ft9kop That was only for the 2017 model year, probably as a customer confidence booster because it was the first year. I think the current battery warranty is 10 years/100,000 miles, which is on par with a Prius, if I'm not mistaken.
I've had my 2020 Ioniq for a year and a half now, and I've had nothing but problems with the electronics. My infotainment system and backup camera have each been replaced twice already (the front proximity sensors also failed), and it's going in for service for another problem with the infotainment system in a couple of weeks. It's been in the shop half a dozen times or so and Hyundai is supposed to let me know this week about buying it back.
I'm considering getting a hybrid SUV and thought about looking at the Santa Fe, but I'm very reluctant to consider another Hyundai. I may consider the Honda CR-V, but I'll probably just go back to Toyota. #venza
Yes. It's a great car.
Atleast it looks decent compared to the Prius
nope they all look th same
AGREED!
@@carholic-sz3qv You think so?
I've had my Prius since 2008 and I'm getting an Ioniq! Nothing wrong with my car; I just want new tech and HATE the new Prius.

What about durability?
Is that a GHOST at the 13:20 minute
Higher trim reviews please.

What's the 5-year projected resale value of a 2020 Ioniq Plug-in vs a 2020 Prius Prime?
5:17 May want to avoid calling it an automatic transmission. There is no fluid torque converter, etc. It's a dual-clutch transmission. A very different animal.
How do you charge it? I see a gas plug but not a charging port
This does not have a charge port it is a hybrid.
@@RaitisRides oh 😅 thanks. I figured all hybrid vehicles had both?
Just like a 63' Corvette. :)
I'm very impressed. Usually hybrids look awful and drive even worse. Only serious zonk from me is that horizontal split in the back. Awful design that shouldn't be around in the 2020s!
You can see out the back on the Ioniq just fine (not so with the new Prius).
Wao the mpg's is amazing! Hyundai needed that. They always were behind in that department
Not true. The Elantra has always been up there
@@gamestar8180 not really compare to Honda and any other CVT transmission. They were always on the low 30's and and mid 20's local driving
He INTELLIGENTLY mentions TWICE that this vehicle does “NOT” have a rubber band transmission called a CVT!
Thanks Arnold!
how is CVT bad over 6 spd AT?
CVT maintains RPM while accelerating and is way batter in passing other cars
How much to lease per month?
Go find out.
What happened to the Battery warranty?
Gutted it. was a lifetime against failure, now 10/100000 miles. Wish they would have kept it lifetime. Probably will push me to a different brand.
Compare this to Kia niro
I would get one, but either a plug in or a full electric. The ability to drive either in the city or down to town and shop or come home without turning on the gas motor is great. The phev is for someone who does a lot of road trips, the ev is for people who don't.
Hybrids at the moment are really only worth where they don't exist, large suvs and trucks. The chevy tahoe hybrid a while ago getting 20/20/20 mpg on a 6.0 V8 was phenomenal and GM hasn't been able to match it since. Toyota and ford are really the only two electrifying mainstream large vehicles.
I would consider the plug-in, but they aren't available in most states.
@@salatzke the full ev is only available in certain states the phev is pretty much everywhere. I think it has to do with battery supply so they can only supply full EVs to areas that actually want them
My state is not on the list for plugins.
@@salatzke take a road trip for one
Almost a perfect hybrid, I just wish they didn't steal that head unit design from the Toyota Corolla.
Power Button Revelations actually they come out with that first than Corolla.

Two questions:
1. The first gen got knocked for the headlights, receiving acceptable, marginal, or poor ratings from IIHS depending on trim level/headlight type. I know IIHS ratings for the 2nd gen are not available yet, but are the headlights better?
2. Can the infotainment system be operated while wearing regular gloves, or do they have to be tech gloves?
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!
@@RaitisRides That doesn't answer either question.
That infotainment system design looks familiar...

How many Twinkies does that center console hold Joe? LMAO!
LMAO! A LOT!
Another Hybrid vehicle. But I like Prius tbh bc Toyota in the house. 😎
I cover them all Tom. It has been redesigned for 2020.
My all wheel drive Prius gives me 60+ mpg round town .And there us no cat in Prius. It hasa electric motors that electronically simulates variable speed.
It drives more like the model 3 than a cat. Because it's the same technology.
That's why I bought my model 3.
Thanks for sharing that info.
Yeah some 1 year old air condition gone already and toyota doesn't have any belt to change.
I would still prefer a Prius
Prius-Uglier, slower, more $, worse warranty, no better gas mpg. Other than that , Prius is better.
@@jamievidd775 so what if it’s slower I won’t see you using 120 horsepower any time.Hyundai resell value is the worst if you buy a Prius at least you know someone will buy it
DO NOT BUY ONE WITH THE GREY INTERIOR. I drove 4 hours to buy one, and the reflection of the light grey dash on the windshield made it look like the dash was dusty/dirty or you were driving through a dust cloud. It was like there were three swaths of dirt on the windshield due to the way the three dash sections were reflecting. I couldn’t see well, was distracted, and didn’t feel safe. I didn’t buy it and will look for one with the black interior (I drove a lower trim with the black interior and it was fine).
Sadly I learned of this after I purchased one

Sorry to hear that, my condolences
Nothing beats the familiarity and reliability of the prius
That is a good point.
They’re not as reliable as you think. It has bad electrical problems that have caused serious accidents.
www.latimes.com/local/california/la-fi-toyota-prius-investigation-20180423-story.html
“The problem, in which overheating causes damage to key electrical parts and a resulting loss of power that can leave motorists stranded, has been dogging Toyota for about seven years. But the safety issue is now growing in scope.
A woman driving a Prius in Florida last year was seriously injured when she lost power on a busy four-lane highway and was rear-ended at about 55 mph. Another Prius crash on an Orange County freeway that caused injuries was reported to federal safety regulators in 2016, according to federal records.”
