No matter how hard someone practices… It comes down to whether or not you have the physical ability… To be able to make those notes. Some people just don’t have the strength to be able to play in the upper register all night long. Not everyone who plays trumpet… is born to be a lead trumpet player. Most trumpet players struggle to be consistent in the lower and middle registers. It’s very interesting that no one on UA-cam has addressed those basic issues… It’s all about high notes… Lead playing at the upper register.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this point. Playing all night long is a development and it starts with focusing on your sound concept. When you move away from that, and focus only on the physical aspects, you destroy musicality. If you focus on musicality, you will develop the physical "stuff" to do what I'm talking about. 90% of my practice and performance is in the middle and low register. BUT, I've been able to develop the upper register through practice and hard work - not smaller equipment (thanks to Bill Adam and Charley Davis...and Robert Baca).

Can anybody play a double C? Well, if you can really play trumpet in every other sense besides big range, and you’re in pretty good shape physically, you’ve got a good shot. Even Miles later in his career, standing wrong, horn pointing down-and he still played much higher than when he was younger, even if there weren’t any double C’s. He really wanted more range.

Each trumpet player will have different range levels depending on their heart and lung capacity. Ultimately, It’s about your physical capacity, and technique not about how long you practice.
I’ve known many trumpet players that have blown their chops out and have permanent damage because they were told that playing hard and high is the way to set your chops. It became disaster for those who believe that lie.
    Have a great day !!

Hey Anthony! Thanks for your comment. I don't believe I'm advocating practicing hard and high in this video. My only point is that hard work, with a reasonable concept, will help anyone play up to Double C. I'm living proof of that - I didn't have one in the video that accompanies my recording of GREASE! right here: shows.jeremymilos.com
But, I have one now, and it's not because my lungs are larger than anyone else's; it's because I followed the advice given to me by Bill Adam; all of his students will attest to that...
