In this video, I demonstrate certain exercises that can help you become more accurate in all registers, especially the upper register, without sounding "slippery" and "sloppy!"
Hi Jeremy,
Great to see and hear you on this UA-cam video short. First, I'm in awe how you totally crush those Schlossberg studies, #s 97, 99, & 100. You are truly a Master. One thing, I searched my Bill Adam Tribute book for those Schlossberg studies, I couldn't find them. Can you tell me what pages they are in? I do like to use the Early, and Later Long Tones Routine as my warm ups. They're great.
I hope you and your family are all doing well.
Enjoying the beautiful spring season!
Holy cow, thank you so much! This was super helpful! Not only are the exercises simpler than I thought they would be (I’m more intermediate), but already my higher register is improving drastically! Thank you!
Hi Saige! They are pretty simple, right? They really help me, too - I’m glad you’re noticing some improvement!
I def have that slippity rooting in the upper reg especially if I don’t sing it in my head lol
I’m curious! Can you talk about trumpet intonation all over the range of the horn?
Especially when using a tuner? I find I tend to be sharp in the upper register for me but also when I take a tuner to players playing on videos as well
That’s a great idea for a topic! I’ll try to work that in really soon…
Exercises such as those are great - but FIRST it is necessary to learn how to play them slowly, to learn HOW to play the desired pitch. 'Muscle memory' is what needs to be obtained - through training and practice. Be able to 'hear' or 'imagine' the note's pitch and IMMEDIATELY have the 'trained reflex' of fingering, embouchure, air, etc.
