I have one of those and was thinking of selling it because "too many cars". I had it parked out front because I was painting the shop, and a little boy came down the block and said he liked my "race car". So selling it is now out of the question.
That's a great story. It definitely has the "race car" spirit. And within the comparables of the time it really wasn't too far off from that.
I have been a aw11 owner and enthusiast for 26 years. I had 5 3/4 aw11's at one time, but unfortunately due to bad health i had to sell a few and only own 2 aw11's now. Still have the one I bought in April 1995 and one I bought in 2006. Great cars.
They are magnificent cars. And the 4age with it's reliability and pleasure balance the perfect engine to enjoy daily!
To better health 🥂
@@freshtapcoke thanks, 21 years kidney transplant, pulmonary fibrosis and mild emphysema, degenerative bone disease in the sacroiliac joint and lots of arthritis other places. I still get out and enjoy my aw11's when I can! 😃
Pls stop telling everyone about the aw11 I need another one and they were happy w/ their 240s and Miata’s ! Lmao
Miatas are real cool too.
Working on the engine has a trick to it.
You can remove the whole trunklid and you can sit in the trunk.
You're a genius
Damnn shes beautiful! I miss my Toyota Celica-Supra '86
They are superior cars. That 80s vibe is unmatched
I had an '88 t-bar in red (all factory spec) that I bought in Jan '91 & wrapped it around a lamp post in July '93 total write off & I miss that car like you wouldn't believe. Couldn't afford to buy another at the time. V6 TVR owner now.
That's a sad ending. I'm glad you enjoyed it while you had it
That’s a really nice, clean aw11 supercharged. Hard to find them clean and tight like that one. I have a nice 88 and am constantly surprised how much I like driving it vs other more expensive sports cars. I’m 6’3” and have more room in my MR2 than my uncles s2000, or many other newer two seater sports cars I’ve driven. Build quality was really great for an 80’s car, visibility is exceptional, and you can feel the road without getting beat up. If any of you see a rust free supercharged with a decent motor, buy it, get it straight, and keep it forever.
Test drove an 89 Supercharged MR2 way back in the day. The 0-30 mph was awesome. I should have bought it. If I recall, I needed something with a back seat, so I ended up with a sports coupe.
What it would have been huh. Such a cool car
Awesome video man! I own one too and constantly preach what you're saying to people who have no clue about theese gems, really should be respected as much as it's siblings, I hope you enjoy the ride man keep at it with vids
Thanks, we are trying to improve our videos little by little. It's great to see support from the fans.
The MR2 is a pleasure to drive. Hopefully this video convinces some people to appreciate it.
They are very underrated.
@@juanpablocastaneda7165just means more for us lol
The 4agze is very different than. The 4age. It certainly feels like a different thing. Loved it
Respek
Absolutely yes!
Yes sir!!
Great video 😜 great car
minty clean fresh museum quality
Absolutely, we had to make a video on it. It's too cool
That whip is clean!
Immaculate
My boi got the momo steering wheel and those seats to match this car is too clean
it just works :)
Great video on the AW11 MR2 S/C. One correction... this car was more then $19,000 MSRP in the U.S. at the time of it's release in late 1987. The dollar/Yen ratio was very weak at the time and part of the reason the Supercharged variant did not sell in big numbers was because they were so expensive due to the weak dollar. For not much more you could go down to your local Porsche dealer and buy a brand new Porsche 924S. (Granted, you'd be stuck with a Porsche 924S, but still...) I have owned 7 Mk1 MR2's including 5 Supercharged models and currently own a mint Super Red 88' S/C with the optional leather interior.
7?! Nice we got a fanatic over here. 🔥

I owned a STI 2021 myself and sold it. Since then I couldn’t find car any I feel attached to it until I saw the 1987 aw11 MR2. I wish I could afford buying it. Question : $17000 auto MR2 1987 car or a $42000 manual MR2 1987 super charge ?.
Both expensive options. Both, if worth, would be fun.
You said 1989 - the 89 have led light inside the wing.. 88 have the sqare inside wing
Yes sir. I was mistaken, that's why the title says 1988. Glad you brought that up.

Lot of people like the 89 LED..
But for me.. its an 80's car.. LED belong in new car.. i like the 88
But its still nice cars
What a unique car!! Supercharger.. like a Mercedes kompressor
Very unique! And it drives fantastic!
One little mistake. You kept referencing the AE86, but in 1988 when this car was built the AE86 was gone and replaced by the AE92, which was a front wheel drive 4age powered Corolla that gets no love. I know because I own one.
Yes, but they both debuted at a similar time and bc of the same powertrain they are very comparable vehicles. But yes, you are right.
Also the ae92 is a fantastic car, underrated for sure. Have you seen the hatchback they sold in the rest of the world. 😍
AW11 production was 1984-1989, 88 would be a bit short as the SW20 came in 1990.
@@biggirlsgarage8331 It IS a fantastic car. I have had mine for 31 years. And yes, I saw the hatches when I was in Europe. We actually had the FX16 here in America. Also a fantastic car, but I like mine better. And I love, love, love the first gen MR2. I hope to own one, one day, but it's looking less likely as the years go by. They are either junk or uber expensive.
I have an '89 Supercharged MR2. The title of this video says '88 and that's correct but at a certain point you say '89. Nope! LOL. If this car is yours,,you'll want to put a pulley on that supercharger. Believe me,, it'll make all the difference. From 8psi to 14-15psi. You'll feel the difference! Oh and one more thing, when you turned on your indicator to turn,,the arrows where blinking waaay too fast. That's the car telling you that you don't have the right bulbs installed. Just sayin',,,
Yes. You are correct on all the points. I messed up saying 89, it's 88. And yes the lightbulbs needed change but that has been fixed already.
Are you running a grunt box too?
@@fzrbullet I am
Cool car. But I think it would better, with vintage style racing rims.
That's why you have 2 sets :)
Old school BBS's pls.
That would be fantastic
