its crazy how on collector cars, a couple thousand dollars of work, can mean tens of thousands of dollars more on the auction
"I mean I am being very nitpicky..."
When youre paying $16,500 for a car you are allowed to be nitpicky.
FYI that 51k one didn't sell it was a false bid and ended up re selling for about 48k I believe. Still this car was a mess, the respray was mediocre and the lack of striping was sad... Also the most concerning thing about this car to me was the Rhode island corrosion on the car and engine bay, I asked about removing the skirts to see if there was rust and he didn't provide photos...
Paint would come off the side in sheets if he removed those skirts lol. Interesting about the bad bid on the other one, $48k is still quite the high water mark for these so far
this would be a minimum 12 hour video if you saw the state of my salvage title AW11
Every MR2 that brings the price back down to sane levels is good with me. I want to actually be able to buy one someday.
even in europe theyre going up now. 5 years ago you could get an OK AW11 for about 4k, most sell for 12k-15k now. i managed to buy a nice condition one from an old couple for 6k and i see myself as super lucky give the jappers current increase in value, which will only get higher with time
why do I need to try doood I've got an MR2 doood this gonna be the hottest BAT auction this month mark my words the car will sell itself
I don't have the money to be nearly this picky with a vehicle. But who the FUCK lays t-tops directly on concrete?
A complete mad man. He actually had two sets of photos of the t-tops. One was on concrete, the other on grass. NEITHER ON THE DAMN CAR.
Upside down even. Like, concrete will scratch glass. Who doesn't know that?
The stereo is such a jaw dropper, because I got my own pioneer head unit and 4 speakers for 60 dollars (USD). That was also brand new
OK... Being in car audio I have to admit DS18s isn't the worst option but the install quality looks terrible, you are right though even if the ds18s sound better put a more known brand in there. I also happen to know JL off the top of my head sells mids and highs that have fixed grilles so when installed like this it still looks nice.
Or get a Japanese brand, match it to your head unit. Get some Pioneers. I don't think Pioneer makes great coax speakers but that'd be far preferable here.
I stand corrected about DS18, but man, as someone who doesn't recognize that brand, I would have assumed he bought them at a flea market.
@@CollectorCarFeed lol Just have no idea what guy was thinking the whole way through trying to ignore the terrible wiring early on and then we got to the speakers and I was just like... What The Actual Fuck.
@@CMOTC ds18 is garbage
@@jhbmoneyNice opinion. Fact is I wasn't claiming they make a "good" product, I know there are and have seen worse than this particular brand on the market... Been in car stereos since the 90s. Car audio has come along way from then lol
i’ve got these same model DS18 in my front doors. my car was 3K i’m on. a budget and my stock speakers shit the bed. they don’t sound bad. they’re covered up by my door panel though. i’m not showing them off.
I like how on every tire the belt is broken and you can see the indentation from said broken belt. This is a nice drivers car, but not bring a trailer worthy.
It's Cars and Bids spec
literally could have just set a reserve for 20-25k and this likely would have solved more problems too
another straight banger
🔥
Thank you my guy
I own 2 MR2s a grey 89 supercharger I picked up last year which was at the time remarkably similar to the one youre diving into and I got it for $12k, as well as a red NA which is much much shittier but with original paint. both of them actually have all the body hardware painted the exact same color, which is a rather interesting choice.
Edit: couple other notes as i watch, back to black doesnt work on the handles unfortunately, also those speakers arent even in the factory location, he screwed up the door panel.
And holy shit ouch, that T-Top pic hurt me physically.
I could imagine that he bought the first speaker he found that fit and had that red color in the middle.
They also 100% painted that C pillar trim, it's usually faded and that black bubbling happens when you paint the trim as the gasses from the plastic release and cause lifting of the paint. The "wire" thing hanging is part of the seal for the c pillar trim falling off... He should have just peeled it all the way off. This car was obviously bought very cheap a few years back then he expected to cash in on the market but was super lazy with this listing. My 88SC isn't this low mileage but my engine bay is nearly a 10/10 and interiors pretty clean. I need a proper OEM paint job but that's down the road for me.
The bubbling happens when you are impatient, don't let the paint dry between coats, and put the paint on too thick.
This was fast lol
Wheel isn't sitting centered in the wheel well either, hints at front end damage.
I hate how everyone who gets new eyebrows for the headlights don't get them painted
🤨
Looks like this guy just made 11k on this $5k aw11 that he bought in 2019.
>guys I sold my ETH for $300 what an incredible ROI
The T tops on the concrete... yikes
this could also just simply be a case of the market cooling down as we obviously march head first into a recession
I'm still watching records get set every day on similar stuff, I really don't think that's the case, but honestly I hope you're right because these cars are too damn high
I am waiting to pick up an sw20t for that reason. Over the past 3 years I’ve watched them go from $6k-$9k to present day $10k-$15k. These prices won’t stay high forever.
@@DR.P3RKY for real, i can't wait till people realize their 150k mile 30 year old japanese sports car wont sell for the same price as one with 20k miles
I spent 5k getting my supercharger repainted and it was worth it because they autistically went over every detail to avoid overspray. Never cheap out on your respray, you get what you pay for.
Where’d you get it done at??
20 out of the 25 people who upvoted this don't even have $5k in their bank accounts. This just shows that someone makes too much money and have lost all sense of what a dollar is worth. This is a crackhead price.
get a life
@@JarofMayonaise
I just spent 5k making sure my AW11 was overhauled, I'll be spending another 5 to 6 k to assure my car is going to look beautiful, to some of us money is just a tool to live out our lives. Don't complain about making little, go make more.
@@JarofMayonaise >upvoted
That aside, I can see that you have never priced a proper car paintjob. 5k is high but it's not crackhead.
I drove the non supercharged version and was gonna buy but I backed out since I needed a daily driver but man... this makes me wonder
I got a non-supercharged TO BE the daily driver :P I have much faster cars that get me in trouble. MR2 is fun to drive at even slow speeds. Midengine! Honestly I enjoy driving this more than my expensive BMW
Even the seals are painted red. It was all done incorrectly and would be difficult to reverse all of that w/o causing more damage.
I like this format my dude. Some parts were a little redundant and couldve been trimmed down, but overall was on point. Go roast some more BaT listings
Thank you! If you like Bring A Trailer listings, you should try this game we play in Discord called The Price Is Wrong 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@CollectorCarFeed oh boy, that sounds fantastic! I bet I'd be pretty good at it!
Oh man that door hardware is awful... It's supposed to be zinc colored. Even my "poor respray" on my SC the door hardware was properly taped off. Also that door speaker is NOT factory I can't believe he drilled a hole into the factory door card to install some shitty speakers... Sad.
This car desperately needs a bottle of 303 for the black plastic parts.
303 trim restore? I've always used back to black personally but want to start using more 303 stuff since getting 303 aerospace
I thought something looked weird about that mr2
Just steal for wife’s nail polish removal and hit the painted bolts… this guy didn’t even try
for real. Or soak them in vinegar, or wire brush, or gun blue, or...
so many options for fixing this, especially the ones on the pillars in back that are clearly visible.
@@CollectorCarFeed The C pillar bolts are not the correct bolts. Correct ones are a special fancy bolt that you can only get from Twos R Us as part of a C pillar reproduction kit.
had 3 of these (in the U.K) thought my first was a JDM super charger import (88) back in 2001 - cost 2.5k GBP.. my last one bought in 2009 cost me £950.. LMAO.. Which I converted to my SC spec from previous (written off) SC. Had no idea at the time the prices would rise but.. I'm never selling it anyway - best (at least most fun) car I've ever owned.
The miles definitely makes it collectible, but the rest just makes it look more like a drivers car. Probably a good $7k-$8k left on the table from the lack of detail.
omg the T-tops
NO DON'T TURN THEM OVER
What were they THINKING
Completely half assed. Aside from everything you mentioned, they didn't even use the proper hardware on the c pillar trim. Very low quality restoration.
Shameful. There was a REALLY bad R34 GTR recently that I should have done a video on, and might still because it was so comically bad.
My Mr2 Is Not Perfect But Its Mine....and she's beautiful in mine EYES
" You're selling a car with a broken windshield on bring a trailer do better." ???? Did you miss the name of the website
BaT stopped being a project car site 5+ years ago, pay more to make more, this guy left stacks on the table
"Sloppy Ukrainian wires over here" thank you lol.
This has Maaco written all over it 😂
I have a MR2 non supercharged that looks just like this but it was repainted properly and I have all the decals.
@@ModMINI nice!
I have a 1990 Toyota corolla dx wagon with 179000 miles and cruise control, what do you think it's worth? Super clean no lights, all small things would be buffed out and look like new
Got me, but a clean 25+ year old car with no issues cannot possibly be worth less than a couple grand
This car does not have a title and that may be part of the problem.
I don't think it's *that* big of a deal to get it titled properly but northeastern "no title" crap definitely might make people apprehensive
The car is just a mess. Would have been better not painting it and leaving it to someone who would have it restored correctly. But looking for a quick buck probably got it really cheap.
Di indonesia barang langka dan harganyapun sangat mahal
🤔🤔
greatest car in the world. buy a red 89 with a moonroof. swap the engine.
I have a red 89 with a moonroof. Double the miles but in way better condition than this. Seriously tempted to swap the engine. But I bought it because I want something that is slow.
@@ModMINI Interested in selling it?
@@fergusodaly3 heck no!!!
@@ModMINI lol. I knew you'd say that.
