  • I this video I show some testing methods on how to verify a misfire from failed injector in a diesel with an oscilloscope. The vehicle is a 2010 BMW X5 with an M57 engine. It's a common rail fuel system set up, but the testing could be applied to other makes and models. A Pico scope was used in this video, but other multi channel scopes will work as well.

This was awesome. I am looking to incorporate testing like this on off highway diesels with HPCR in the future. Thanks for sharing.

hello I congratulate you on your professionalism I'm learning a lot from you.
I wanted to ask you the cause of the relative low compression on cylinder 5 thanks

Thank you Damiano, I hope you do get something out of the videos I post... as far as the low compression on 5, I believe it ended up getting better after getting the injector issue sorted out. But I cannot remember for sure if I did a relative compression afterwards. I just know that it drove and sounded good , to the point I didn't have any concerns with how it was. Thank you for watching

These injectors known for compression locking.so recommend to disconnect injectors until Rail pressure build before start..is that right..?

thanks Scott, and yes was happy to actually be able to find a faulty flow issue by scoping the pressure signal

Can you tell me please what kind of diagnostic tools did you use?

The tool I used is an automotive oscilloscope, this particular brand is called Pico, but there are others out there as well.
