In this video I show to diagnose this crank no start condition. There was not one true thing affecting the situation, it was a combination of the multiple failures that has deemed this vehicle inoperable. This was a 2010 BMW 135 with an MSD81 DME and an N54 engine. Many of the circuits and operations of the immobilizer system on other BMW's work the same, so use this as it might be as of some g...

You are better than the factory dealership you know more than they do
Bypass the PCM. jump it. The kids on Chicago street know how to do it in 5 minutes. Jump it at PCM signal to pre-relay control input with +12vdc. This relay will control the immobilizer and starter circuit.
I see many here , own shops , others are experienced mechanics , with those complicated high tech tools I don't think many would be able to understand , Interpret or use those tools ( scope ). Not for DIY , for sure !!!
Yes we see and we we head all what about BMW and Mercedes
Can you have a Rod knock due to the beginning failing of bearings without triggering the knock sensors? My n63tu have a similar noise only when idle but my knock sensors haven’t been triggered and it drives normal up until I aggressively drive it up to 80mph then it starts misfiring but no check engine light.
amazing video thanks but what don`t understand is why leaking cylinder creating more vacume(at 30.19). to me it should be less, since it draws more air(i heard that before but i could not figure out why). thanks again to spend times to make this video
Great job thanks for sharing
I wish I could get a better picture of the bus drawing fighting the same thing on my f150 but with the 6.2l
Excellent
My chip is locked will i have to unlock it through im608? Because it says it will erase all data
SHOULD HAVE NOTHINGTO DO WITHTHE NO START,,ONLY IF YOU REPLACE PCM,,,IF YOU LOOK ON EBAY,,OR GO TO JUNK YARDS,,FIND SAMS THAT MTACHES YOUR S SERIAL NUMBER AND IT SHOULD BE PLUG AND PLAY,,,,
Well, my car oil cap has some vacuum when I open it up and it kind of changes the idle when I do that, but it doesn't shut down the car. I have E90, 2008. Does that mean I have Vacuum leak or CCV valve is bad? I have no check engine light, but I do have some codes, P1415 (sometimes) and 2D06 and 2C7F.
hello. my transmission won't let me enter D mode I have no error codes on the transmission. What could it be?
Can you transfer Immo data to another used BCM2?
I think you can but only with certain programmers without trying to unlock the mcu or something to that extent. I believe the acdp can write to the mcu without doing anything crazy.
ooo ford and this is why i drive japanes cars what a horrible design
Wow lucky the car owner found you 🎉. I hope my MB W212 eps i can find its replacement belt, also a 2014 but only 30k miles. For back up sake
I just diagnose one of these steering racks for a shop. They replaced the belt and now they have a bunch of codes with no assist to the power steering. The module has power, grounds, and comm. The module has to be replaced, but the suck part is that it's expensive and they have to get a complete unit. I'll program it to the vehicle when they get it. Nice breakdown
yes, it is a very expensive unit from researching this job out. Obviously, I had scanned and checked a bunch of stuff prior to making a decision of replacing the belt only.
Genius
The Ford engineers, with their belt-driven oil pump and now this, need to think a little deeper on their next engineering project. Excellent job on this rebuild, Sadel. Most other shops would probably replace the entire rack ($$$$).
Yes, I bet the natural instinct is to replace the whole unit, but once I researched the part I realized how expensive of a repair it could get and ended up finding out this was a possibility.
You can get the belt at "Power Steering Seals" it's for 2011-2014 F150 and the part #: PSS.EPS.FRD.005
Was the timing chain stretched? I know this was a long time ago so maybe you won’t recall just figured I’d ask I’m running into the same exact issue it cranks “sorta” exactly how this one did. Replaced the battery and the vanos solenoids are good. The timing chain on mine seems to have little to no play so I was assuming there was no way it would jump timing and maybe it was a starter issue… UNTIL I came across this video lol My car has 92k miles and has never been driven hard
I don't think the chain was stretched. But either way, the only thing that caused mine to "sorta" crank and stop was the valvetronic issue. If you have a new strong battery. you can attempt to do dme programing to "reset" it and see if it will crank after that, if not you might need to replace the valvetronic actuator.
@ okay cause mine has all the symptoms of what this bmw had. I was happy af I came across your video and seen the “sorta crank” cause this was the only video that showed the same exact symptoms as mine. My timing chain isn’t stretched and the or anything, but my car pretty much lost power when driving and it wouldn’t really accelerate. My last question to you is could a bad valve tonic motor also throw codes p0012 and p0015? Those are the only codes I have, but again the same exact symptoms as this bmw. I apologize for such a long message but I truly appreciate you responding and helping me out 🙏🏼🙏🏼
How do you know what type of diode to use?
I used 1N4001 Standard 1A, 50V, DO-41
Great video man I have a P2400 code on my 2016 Mercedes c300, have you dealt with anything similar ?
what's the description for the code
Can I send you both Sam modules for you to clone for me
yes
@ can you email me the information so I can send them out to you
@ I don’t know how to get in contact with you, but I would like to. Is there some kind of link or number I can get a hold of you on
what is your email address ?
Bro, what'd you do to get it back in time ?
hello man I see you doing this, may I ask you? how to check what MED I have, I'm using launch scanner and after I pick what chip I have (TC1797) it's asking input type such as MED17.1 how I can find this MED ? I know MEVD17.27 but it's not the same, my Bosh PN 0 261 S09 291 / please help if you can thank you
on benz ecu its written on the label sticker
That number is correct, you have a MEVD 17.2.7 Maybe the Launch doesn't have specific bmw But the MED17.7.1 / MED 17.7.2 / MED 17.7.3 all have the same TC1797 maybe try that
Great diag with the oscilloscope waveform Sadel! Good analysis like always! I had not seen this pattern before because usually spark plugs are good and rarely failed unless they are from ebay or fake. Thank you for sharing and waitng for the next one.Take care brother! Good info at the bottom!
Glad it was helpful!
those aftermarket modules clearly have a lot less circuitry on the board, many less micro components... and appears not to be electrically compatible
I KEEP LEARNIG NICE DIAGNOSTIC
That's great!
On min 2:09 the multiple spikes after the initial breakdown of the scope capture from cyl 2 could also indicate possible coil or spark plug wire ringing, potential spark plug gap issues or possible secondary circuit problems. Great case study Sadel 👍
I’m glad I found this video. 2012 BMW 535i I just replaced the Eccentric shaft with the bearings and a servo motor. All original BMW parts. Installed a new valve cover and spark plugs. I’m not able to do the initial valvetronic relearn procedure and I have a code what won’t clear and that code wasn’t there before I did the work. The old servo motor was bad I think with the codes what I was getting and making the woodpecker sound every time you unlocked the car . One day that noise stopped one day and the car would crank and would not start. I will try to reprogram the DME and see what happens. The code what I can’t clear now is 134F01 Valvetronic adjustment range: master adaptation outside tolerances. I wil keep you posted.
hope it helps
Another great diagnosis video. The classes that I go to, online and in person, always demo the same generic secondary waveform pattern from the 70's. I learn nothing from that because the waveforms I'm able to capture don't look like that. I don't know about other commenters or viewers but this is the first time I'm seeing this pattern. Thanks for the explanation and video.
I learned a ton from your videos. Time to give back. The upward slope of spark burning PLASMA (instead of flat or slightly down) is a sign of High Resistance (electrical). That is how it is classified abstractly by spark scope professors. This generalization is easier to remember and it is Universal. High resistance can be: increased spark gap (like in your case), bad wires, lean mixture, etc. (As to "gas / turbulence interrupting the spark plasma": it is impossible. Spark plasma travels at Speed of Light. But gas (turbulence) is super-slow compare to speed of light, it is like billion of years to travel on a rocket compared to one second of light travel. ) Keyword here is RESISTANCE. Increased Resistance. Upward travel of spark plasma burn.
Thanks for the great information! 👍
Get the rotkee ukraine made 6 cylinders cop induction sensors, 1 channel gets 6 cop signals and the signal clarity is so good, better than Bernie's ATS vesion single unit. The rotkee is so cheap the price, yet so awesome. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the info
@DTEAuto u are most welcome.
Great video on a topic we’ve had with our GLA 220cdi 4matic for 4 years. A local Mercedes specialist advised me to change the oil, which I’ve done, but the noise is still there during my first test drive this morning. Though seems to be a lot less. Next step is to check the oil level and see if my OBD2 reader will allow me to enter the oil change and relearn the solenoid. Thanks for a great video ✊
Grate video , very accurate scope pattern explanation . well done!! thank you
Glad it was helpful!
It's usually cheaper from Kingbolen.
Very interesting scope pattern, with your explanation being dead-on accurate with what you found that was causing the issue.
👍
I know of a case where the torque converter was destroyed due to worn spark plugs, the manual said 105k miles. vehicle had 90k. After transmission replacement had the exact same transmission knocking noise, spark plug replacement took care of it. I think the indexing by torque only works with factory spark plus.
So what's the conclusion for the year 2024? Preventive maintenance, changing the sparkplugs, requires diagnosis with the oscilloscope? 🙂Give me a break... Owner of the car is a m.o.r.o.n.
The used car shops bring their cars to DTech. Don’t be so fast to comment when you don’t know the entire story.
Of course it doesn't require the scope, but it is a great opportunity to learn for the next one to come, if I study on this one and can pick out with the scope what the pattern looks like with a large gap, then I have just increased my knowledge
Great work
The easiest way to locate an offending misfire cylinder is to scope CKP sensor and coil1 trigger signal as reference. Then apply crank math channel to CKP signal and using coil signal+firing order you find out the offending cylinder.
Yes, that is a very effective way to do it for sure
Does that still work off idle? I have only had success doing it at idle with crank maths but maybe I haven’t worked out the settings
it gets difficult when off idle because the range settings might not work right for the math channel. I have had one vehicle show me drop out off idle, it was a Mercedes
@@fastbagel You still can find misfire under load up to around 3000rpm ,with crank math channel applied to CKP sensor signal. Above 3000rpm you cannot longer see what is going on as math channel resolution becomes very poor. If you have an email I can send you pictures.
It would have been interesting to see if Mode 6 showed any misfire data. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for the tip, I didn't even think about it
@7:19 you said you got "clamp" on Chain Tensioner. I believe Chain Tensioner does not have any electrical output / sensors. What kind of "clamp" did you put there? Where can I get one?
As far as what I meant by "clamp" is the chassis ear clamp, you can find them online, just search for steelman chassis ear leads, you can get them separate from the whole kit.
@@DTEAuto clamps contain mircophones? But they would need amplifiers before signal gets to scope.
@@BesprovolkiSvias they are not actual "microphones" they just generate an electrical signal based on sound and vibration and it can be measured and captured with the scope, the only thing to connect those actual clamp leads to the scope is an adapter which I make and offer
Very timely video. Our Tiguan is in the shop and they're dealing with these issues. I was able to share the video with them.
Hope it helps, thank you for watching
