    Thanks for the video. I built one and it works great! Painted it flat black and used black truck bed coating spray to give the top piece a nice non-skid surface. Covered the edges of the top piece with painters tape to leave it smooth for the top rollers to roll smoothly. Then I took the tape off and painted the edges with the flat black to finish the look. First few slides were not too smooth but after 6-8 times it got much better. Now after 2 weeks it rolls nicely. Thanks again!

      Henderson V I am glad you like it. I did take it out and painted the whole thing with just a good latex to match the truck. I even had 600 lbs of boxes in it the other day and my friends said it would slid. Guess what, it worked perfectly. Thanks again.

    Thumbs up, I made one where I put the rollers on fiberglass decking used for making decks ( so no plywood needed on bottom.. ,, however I I think the extra weight you have keeps it from tipping, thumbs up!! I have to make another one as I have a different truck now and I never painted the plywood , it twisted. I am going to try 2 coats of. Sherwin Williams Duration exterior paint.

    After looking at multiple videos of making a slide, I like your concept best...I wondered about the roller type bearings, but no one else has used them.....I have seen them at harbor freight and maybe Northern tool......This seems to be the simplest design....thanks

    I like this idea. I am contemplating this but intend to drill holes and put the rollers through the bottom plywood to capture that bit of height and not sacrificing anything but the time to drill the holes. Perhaps it might be a wash on time by not having to fasten them.

    • @dpsica

      Sounds like a cool modification and should save some space on the overall height. Send me a pic when your done. Dpsica@gmail.com. The one thing I will point out is that when the tray is fully extended it is the perfect height to rest on the tailgate. I do not have any mechanical fasteners holding a tray into the bed. With the tray resting on the tailgate when open it doesn’t tip the whole assembly. It stays put. I think if you were to put the roller bearings under you may have to lift the tray up a little bit to get over the edge of the tailgate.

    Your main roller bearings are from Harbor Freight and are 1 1/4 inches tall. How tall and where did you get the smaller bearings?

    Great video. This is what I've been trying to come up with. How long is the avalanche bed. I've got a Silverado with a short bed. Thanks,

    Great concept great ideal building it this weekend for my truck thank you . Did the rollers come from Harbor freight you’re probably not gonna answer this before I start building though it’s Wednesday I’ll probably start on Saturday morning thank you

      Buddy Trent glad you liked it. It’s been working great for me for a while. I did make some changes since I posted. I took it all apart and painted all side with a good paint. I matched it to the blue of the truck. Yes, I did get the roller bearings at Harbor freight. They also sell them at Northern tool. They are cheep. Good luck

    what size bearings did you use on the bottom and side rails. Thanks . Love this design.

    Dave I see bearings top and bottom. Does it bind on the sides if the tray wracks? (sp) seems like its just wood on wood contact and if you clearance it, seems as though it would drift one way or another. Not criticizing, just thinking of building it.

    • @davidsica9802
      @davidsica9802  5 років тому

      Steve Sherman hey there. There is no binding on mine but keep in mind that mine is dry and not exposed to any weather that may make it swell. I did update it by taking the whole thing apart and painted both sides and edges with a good exterior latex paint. I really have had great luck with it. I have 600 lbs in boxes on it the other day and still pulled out fine. I guess you could wrap the edges with a U channel aluminum or steel. That would be even nicer. Thanks.

      Steve Sherman one more thing. I found the trick was to use the 3/4 ply, it is the perfect height for the slide to land on the tailgate so you don’t need anything to hold it down to the bed. I didn’t use any mechanical fasteners to. Secure it in the bed.

    Maybe don't line up the bearings in a row. The steel bearings are kind of rough on wood when rolling in and out with a lot of weight. I ended up with a groove in my plywood. I offset my bearings now so I hope it won't dig into the wood as fast.

    Hey Dave. Where did you find those bearings?

    • @dpsica
      @dpsica 5 років тому +2

      Trevor Simko hey. Got them at Northern tool but I know they also sell them Harbor freight. They are cheap. The only thing I changed since i posted is I pulled it all apart and painted all sides with a good latex paint. I had 700 lbs of bricks on the tray the other day and my friends said it would never slide but it did- it’s working out great. Thanks.

      Standard Ball Bearing Castor, Amazon, Google, Ebay, everywhere. Don't forget to enter word, 'CASTOR' in your search.

    Too shallow& too open , thei’s a reason for drawers, stuff will roll around, plus it’s complicated by mechanical rollers you have to service periodically, the. best rolling shelf I’ve see were 2 drawers sliding on strips of cutting board plastic. To each his own! Shalom!
