    Amazing job. All great. The thing that up-ticked my heart. The ‘Lincoln Electric’ sticker. ‘41 or ‘42 my father worked for LE as a Welder. LE wrote a deferment letter for my Dad WWII - said he was essential. He was essential - he was so upset that they did that without his knowledge. He quit - he wanted to enlist, he did, Navy Fighter Pilot. He survived - so did the LE story.

    Man, I’ve been really wanting to do one of these and so far this has been the nicest one that I’ve seen because of the top slide really built into it. You really need to put everything that you used in the description because I wanna make it exactly like yours.

    I am a finish carpenter also cabinet builder (mostly finish now ? Pays more) . I am going to do that but I did build out an SUV back full of cabinets and a bed on top for a customer. The way I do those drawers is install your slides as u did! Then place your drawer about half in extend the slides out (slip a long 4’ shim under the drawer to keep it up off the bed from dragging maybe a 1/2”) then screw your extended slide to the drawer ! Bam! You did it 1st try in 30 min!

      @@zephyr1408 I'm not putting older workers down, I am the one with the health issues. Besides really bad arthritis in my knees and a torn something in my left knee, I do pretty well. When I am doing interior finish, I too work a good long day. I don't smoke nor am I overweight, 6' tall and 150 pounds, I don't drink either. I also eat fairly well with the diet my GI doctor has me on. COPD, chronic pancreatitis and severely blocked carotid arteries in my neck are what slows me down. I hope after my artery cleaning and knee repairs this winter I'll be doing better.
      I have a friend who has been building custom houses on his own for 30 years. He is 64 and has 8 carpenters who all, but one is over 60. His 2024 calendar is full. He just started telling people that he is not booking work for 2025, yet.

    Absolutely great work. I am curious about the way the angle iron worked out on your canopy clamps? It was hard to see in the final product shots. I'm going to do this build in the next few weeks and was wondering about any advice concerning keeping the rolling bed aligned and or not being able to just pull completely out.

    • @Coffmanconstruction
      @Coffmanconstruction  Рік тому +1

      It worked good for holding it down, the platform didn’t stay aligned perfectly always. Sometimes I’d have to push one side in a little bit, but it was never a hard process, and I never installed anything to keep it from sliding out, but the weight of it as it came to the end would pinch it against the angle iron and keep it in pretty well

  • @MarkSaccount

    I like your over all plan and it looks to be coming out well. You probably should have added a piece of thin plywood between your rollers and the box for the drawers. just to keep dust etc out of your drawers. One other thought Have you given any thought to the weight? I assume your trucks are 1/2 to which only gives you 1000 lbs. 3/4 plywood can weigh from 42 lbs up to 60 lbs. you could easily have half of your payload capacity before you put any of your gear in the trucks. Hopefully I haven't been too negative, yous have done a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I subscribed!!!

    • @Coffmanconstruction
      @Coffmanconstruction  Рік тому

      We haven’t noticed any issues with weight so far! I’ve even carried a steel beam in the back of it. I did upgrade to a slightly bigger truck and moved the drawers over though

    If you were to construct them all over again, is there anything that you guys would do differently? I find myself wanting to know more about the way that the slide stops, since I didnt see much of anything showcased with that part of the build, or its final product. I think you briefly mentioned how it keeps from tilting up. Speaking of the slide, how do you keep it tracking straight in and out? Is the fixed casters all thats needed for that? No alignment mechanisms or channels for that at all? Any idea on its weight capacity, espesh fully extended? I havent seen much, if any, designs that address the sagging factor during heavy loads, unless they were just welded tray frames or similar. Look forward to your response, if you got some time. Thanks for sharing, regardless. Aloha

    • @Coffmanconstruction
      @Coffmanconstruction  Рік тому

      i probably wouldnt do the sliding bed on my next one. the capacity is determined by the drawer slides themselves, they say 500 pounds supposedly.
      i didnt incorporate anything to keep it from sliding out. it has enough weight on it to pinch and not fall out, but either way its nice to be able to take it out if i need to. i didnt incorporate any tracking for it, but i should have! can get slightly misaligned and makes you have to put it in just right to keep it square

      Hi! The slide right now is just held in with friction, honestly if I have a scenario where it becomes an issue I’ll add a latch of some sort to lock if i need, also the sides are held in with screws at an angle into the base
